November 14, 2006: Conor McNamara, 2026
Well that was a nice change of pace. I've got to ask right away, though, did any of you get a Back To The Future vibe? I kept waiting for them to call each other "McFly" or to have a senior-ized Lea Thompson walk in or for Christian to ask Sean, "What are you lookin' at, butthead?" Kidding, but yet not — the makeup reminded me of that classic flick. I kept thinking how unrealistic it was for Sean and Julia to not get Conor's other hand done. Why would Sean, so obsessed with his own childhood deformity, allow his son to only get one of his hands done? Yes, Hurricane Lenore caused a delay, but I found it hard to believe Sean would give up. That's why I was hoping to see Sean wake up at the end and say: "I dreamed that we decided not to get Conor's other hand fixed, and he chose to get it done 20 years from now." So that's really my only complaint.
What a treat it was to see young Kelsey Lynn Batelaan get another chance to show some emotion as Annie and not get her usual throwaway line. I loved that Annie suggested she live with Sean, while Conor would live with Julia (especially since Sean felt he screwed up as a father). But as the ending indicated, and, if we are to believe the future scenes, that game plan never materialized.
I thought Stark Sands was fantastic as the 2026 version of Conor. You could tell he was a product of Sean and Julia. Makes me want to see Flags Of Our Fathers even more, since he's in it. Jennifer Elise Cox was a riot as the 30-year-old version of Annie, and showed great dramatic range when Annie was arrested for stealing painkillers. Did any of you see Jennifer on Lifetime's Lovespring International? She was absolutely hilarious each week, as was the entire cast, and I hope it gets a second season. Go here for Matt Webb Mitovich's funny interview with Jennifer. But back to Nip/Tuck. One of the funniest scenes was when Jennifer as Annie was talking on her phone at the restaurant, but it was via the phone chip installed in her ear. I also dug seeing the futuristic operating equipment during Conor's bloodless surgery.
According to my FX source, Conor's unseen but only heard therapist was played by actor Bob McCracken. I kept thinking it was going to be revealed to be someone significant. Not sure why he was never shown or why Bob was uncredited (my source wouldn't tell me).
The future Christian cracked me up — his two young, foreign girlfriends looked like leftovers from a Robert Palmer video. Interesting comment of Julia's, in reference to polygamy becoming legal: "You can get married to two women, but gays still can’t get married in this country." Sean: "Gays should consider themselves lucky."
And how about Matt becoming a plastic surgeon? I guess the best part about that was that he seemed happy for a change and was friendly to both his fathers. And there was no indication of Scientology or Kimber in his life. Oh, and I liked that he looked nothing like the present day Michael Jackson. How special for Conor, who could've said, "I'm being operated on by Big Brother and My Two Dads."
As for the present, it was good that Julia and Sean finally came to terms with the fact that their marriage was over. That being said, I was happy that Julia broke it off with Marlowe and admitted to loving him but not being in love with him. Sean showed a rare tender side when he told Marlowe that he could come back for visits after Marlowe said he was really going to miss Conor.
I thought that having Julia leave town with Annie and Conor to live with her mother for a while in New York was an effective way for Julia to leave the show. As most of you know, Joely Richardson asked to be released from her contract so that she could be with her 15-year-old daughter Daisy full-time while Daisy undergoes multiple surgeries on her leg due to a circulation problem. Kind of an ironic art-imitates-life situation — a child undergoing surgeries. As my pal Mary Murphy writes in our magazine this week, executive producer (and writer of tonight’s episode) Ryan Murphy (no relation to Mary) hopes Daisy has a swift recuperation. Ryan is writing a version of the Dec. 12 season finale that includes Joely; he also hopes to get her back next season. Yes, mark your calendars — that's when the last new episode of the season airs. Oh my, that's four weeks from now.

stark standards as connor in 2026 did amazing job.
christian in 2026 cracked me up. he looked so goofy. i cant put my finger on it but he reminds me of some tv character. im not surprised that christian is still himself in his 60's. i knew sean and julia's marriage was over on the premiere episode of this season. those 2 can never stay committed to each other. its better for them to stay away from each other. it would of been nice if we could of seen who sean remarried to. as long as it wasnt kimber im ok with them not showing her.
im not surprised that matt followed in his 2 dads footsteps. but i did find a little troubling was that they didnt mentioned matts kid with kimber. could that be a hint on whats to come with kimber and matt??hmmmmmm
jennifer elise cox cracked me up as a messed up 30 year old annie. sean and julia truely did a number on annie. i remember julia flushing annie's gerbal down the toliet. and the period party they had for her at age 8. plus i did watch lovespring international on lifetime. that show is way too funny. i also wish that they bring it back for another season.
tonight was a very good episode. but im going to miss joely richardson. i hope she does comes back next season. the show wouldnt be the same without her.

You hit it right on the nose what I hated about this episode? I also kept hoping it was dream, and Sean would wake up, and make a similar comment about not fixing Connor's other hand for 20 years. I thought it was supposed to be shocking how they were writing out Julia. She hates her mother, yet that is where they are sending the character-a big let down. It would have been more shocking if she went to jail for the suffocating the woman after the plane crash last year. If we are supposed to believe that future stuff, I also find it hard to believe Matt is going to be a plastic surgeon, and I can't see Sean and Julia hating each other for the next twenty years, and Marlowe still being around. I can see Annie ending up screwed up like that. Somebody give Jennifer Elise Cox a sitcom now.

We got a lot of laffs from many aspects of the episode, especially the daughter. We also wondered why it took so long for the hand surgery to take place.
The only real question - who was the psychologist?? It seemed like the voice was familiar, but never saw the face and kept expecting a "surprise" at the end, which never happened. Anyone?

I too was expecting a "reveal" in regards to the shrink. That would have been hilarious if it was the Carver.
Just kidding, just kidding.

If the psych. would've turned out to be Escobar I would've peed my pants laughing. But I too was expecting a shocking reveal.
Good episode...very funny at moments. And can I say, Matt should keep the scruff! He looked 20 times better with it!

i don't understand how you don't get why the other hand wasn't fixed..i thought that was kinda the point of the whole show...julia stood up to sean & wouldn't allow it..than connor didn't want it until, as he said at the end, he couldn't do it until it would bring everyone all together.
i was surprised at how well the episode flowed..you feel good about how they end up, but there's still lots of wiggle room to explore in coming seasons..and grown-up annie was PERFECT! they finally acknowledged how little they use her!

I think Christian was trying to look like Larry Hagman (as Burt Landau, but with two Michelles!). Who played the shrink? He sounded a bit like George Clooney. Fun episode.

I liked the ep, but had problems with the makeup. Julia's was okay, but I would expect that the guys, especially Christian, would not look that old at 62 years old. They are plastic surgeons on a show about plastic surgery, for goodness sakes! This is 20 years in the future - there are going to be advances in aging control (at least I hope!!) I loved seeing a well-adjusted Matt. And Dylan Walsh again aggravated me while simultaneosly breaking my heart. Somebody really should give that guy an Emmy.

I think Christian reminded me of a little Liberace, mixed with some Cesar Romero, with some Fernando Lamas, sprinkled with a touch of elder Cary Grant...

The funniest thing was that after being obsessed with his body, Christian totally let himself go. I cracked up when Annie said the next time they'd all be together was at Christian's funeral.
Did anyone else think that it was an inside joke that the makeup people gave Christian a full head of thick hair when right now he's a bit "hair challenged?"

Does anyone other than my husband and myself wonder why the future seems to be monochromatic? Everyone in the resturant seemed to be dressed in white or an off shade of white. Oh except for Christian's dates. They were dressed all in black.

I loved future Christian!!! I want him to come back more often. Cracked me up. My boyfriend was walking in and out of the room, and when he glanced over he thought it was Bob Barker!!! I don't think Bob Barker has ever looked so good, or been so damn funny.
Keep future Matt too. Enjoyed that to no end. Absolutely perfect. But did he even graduate from high school? I kinda wonder how he jumped from high school drop out to some kick ass plactic surgeon. I guess if your parents have the cash.
I really liked most of the characters in this episode and how they were portrayed (I loved Annie; I watched Lovespring International and she always had the best lines. "Well no wonder you can't find anyone to love, you're a bitch!" I hated future Julia, but I think that stems from me just not liking Julia.) I however didn't like the episode. Just didn't seem "right". I don't know, it served a purpose. I wanted the Carver to be the therapist.
Anyone looking forward to the new Monica, I mean Courtney Cox, show? I know I can't get that bleeping song out of my head.
