Episode Recap: “Love Lasts Forever”
Beth becomes a marked woman. Josh is kidnapped at gunpoint. Mick and Beth try desperately to save the mortally wounded Josh. Beth asks Mick to turn Josh. This was an exciting episode.
Mick uses the medic skills he picked up during World War II in trying to save Josh’s life. And he gave it a valiant effort. I was impressed by everything he did to save Beth’s beloved (they did say “I love you”). Not only did he think quickly on his feet by using the cigarette lighter to cauterize a wound but Mick also used Beth’s necklace to tie off an artery. Part of me really wanted Josh to live after all that effort. I know, I know. I pretty much have not been a fan from day one but that doesn’t mean a decent human being (and I think we can all agree he was as least that) didn’t deserve to die like that. But I think his death presents an interesting hurdle in the story of Beth and Mick. Because Mick wouldn’t turn Josh, Beth now blames Mick for Josh’s death. I liked Mick’s speech at the end about how Josh’s job ultimately killed him but Beth’s a little emotional right now. I’m not sure she really heard anything other than Mick saying he wouldn’t turn her to save her from death. That was a little harsh but I’m glad he said it. He might not actually feel that way but how could he live with himself if he turned the woman he loves into something he hates?
And the way Mick went after Tejada was very interesting. We’ve never seen him show his vamp side willingly to anyone but he used it to great effect with Bustos. After Mick got Tejada’s location out of him, Mick went to administer some vigilante justice. And I can’t say I’m not glad Tejada got what was coming to him. The scenes at the bar were kind of fun — especially Mick’s narration about the bartender and his gun. Well, it was kind of gruesome after that but they had a little fun with it, which was refreshing.
Let’s talk about Coraline for a moment because there were definitely a significant development there. First, Mick doesn’t want his pal Guillermo to analyze Coraline’s blood. Although Mick sees it as a cure he’s afraid other vamps will see it as a threat. The doc who analyzes the blood assumes it’s that of a child because it’s so “pure,” it’s extremely rare, and just happens to be the same type as Beth’s blood. That makes Beth think Coraline targeted her as a child but Mick isn’t convinced.
I had a few quibbles, which I’m hesitant to even mention because I did enjoy the episode so much. Well, it’s really only one: why would Tejada’s men kidnap Josh and take him somewhere else to kill him if the endgame is Josh’s death? Why not just kill him on the street in front of Beth’s place? It would send a pretty strong message to any other DA who is thinking of prosecuting him. I think Beth couldn’t have possibly asked Mick to save Josh if he was shot in front of her place. And without that conflict, I think we all know they’d be together in a heartbeat. Well, probably not quite that fast but I think they’d be together pretty fast. One thing I did enjoy was seeing Mick with his shirt off at the top of the episode. Am I right ladies? Sorry, guys, I’m not sure there was much eye candy for you.
I know you’re all about to go through some serious withdrawal — as am I — after next week’s last fresh episode. I won’t say more than I think it’s going to be a great “season” ender based on the preview. I’m sure you’ll keep this blog going with all your great comments. It looks like you’re learning a lot from each other and I certainly learn a lot from all of you.
So what did you think of Josh’s demise? Do you think there’s some significance to Coraline and Beth sharing the same rare blood type? Do you think Beth has any right to be mad at Mick? Do you think Mick will tell Beth how he really feels?

Finally! A new Moonlight episode and they did not disappoint us.
I've watched Love Lasts Forever again... and it still left me breathless. How does Moonlight continue to get better every single week?!
I'd like for the writers to know that they have my permission to begin each show as they did tonight. *wink* When I saw our shirtless Mick working out... Oooooo my! Doing those pull ups on the stairs. *swoon* You know that his work out routine would have to be as unique as he is!
Miss Kara ~ I think the reason they didn't just kill Josh right there is because they had been ordered to bring him to the head bad guy alive. The plan changed when the determined Beth & Mick gave chase.
As I said in my recap, my admiration for Mick just grew more due to how hard he tried to save Josh for Beth.
Beth did several things in this episode because of her guilty feelings. That horrible, awkward "love" scene with Josh. I had a hard time watching that. Then, asking Mick to turn Josh to "save" him. She knows how Mick feels about being turned against your will, but she was watching Josh die. I hated that she asked Mick & put him in that difficult position of saying no... however, I understand.
I'm not gonna go on and on here. Already did that on my blog *smile* Plus, I'm still processing everything that happened. This was one action packed ~ both physically & emotionally ~ episode!

Not to be picky but I believe that the "bad guy's" name was "Tejada" not "Tahara."
I was not as impressed with this episode. First, I saw zero chemistry between Josh and Beth. Second, I think the actress who plays her underacts at critical times. Third, the bad guys were stereotypical gang "Latino" types, who grunted their way through the episode. It's as if the show's producers wanted to shout out to us "gorillas!" Puh-leeze! I would have appreciated a bit more rounding out of these characters. Finally, and this is a small detail: if the guy shot Josh through the back seat, why do we see a bullet enter the front of Josh's thigh? Attention to little things like that its what separates a great show (like Dexter) from just okay episodes like this.

first of all i just wanted to say that i loved the episode. it was really nice to see mick w/o his shirt. and it was really nice to actually hear him say that he has feelings for beth albeit in the voice over but still.
i was glad to see him extract vengence on behalf of beth. that was cool!
it's sad though that beth can't see through her pain and know that ultimately mick did what was right. unless he had josh's permission he shouldn't have changed him.
i hope next week's ep is spectacular as it's the last one so far

YES, YES and more YES, this show has everything. I loved that Mick tried to save Josh, but honestly I'm ready for Josh to be gone, and I agree there was no chemistry between Josh and Beth, I think Beth was so guilty because she loves Mick...I also had a hard time when Mick heard Beth tell Josh she loved him, oh PLEEEZ, it was just a response on Beth's part, I don't think she loved Josh, look at the look on her face when she woke up in Josh's arms. Talk about a guilty look! I felt so sorry for Mick to have to hear Beth tell Josh she loved him. He looked crushed. I think Beth and Coraline are related! Not sure how yet but can't wait for the next weeks episode to tell us. I'm going to have "Mick" withdrawals after next Friday. I agree the beginning of this episode was fantastic, all Mick buffed up! I can't get enough of this guy! Surely Mick will tell Beth how he feels. She has got to know he loves her!

Am I the only one who missed Josef? He's still my favorite character, and an episode without him is like a day without sunshine.
I couldn't help but be reminded of Angel. When Darla (a former vampire who was resurrected as human) was dying, Lindsey, who loved her, begged Angel to turn her back into a vampire. He refused, so Lindsey brought in Drusilla, one of Angel's & Darla's old vampire cohorts, to turn her. I wonder if Beth would have done that if she could. I agree that Josh did not deserve to die, although it does resolve the triangle. . .
I can't imagine how horrible it was for Tejada's daughter to have her father carted off in handcuffs at her birthday party (but shouldn't it have been a quinceanera instead of a sweet 16?). I know they wanted to get him locked up asap, but is there no sensitivity to a young girl's feelings? Couldn't they have picked him up afterwards? I know he was a vicious killer, but she wasn't.
Please, some Josef next week. I miss him tremendously.

Have to agree about Josh being a good guy and hated to see him go like that, but it really was time for something to happen. I really thought they would just have Beth breaking up with Josh .. but .. wouldn't have been nearly as emotional nor would we have seen how dedicated Mick is to NOT turning another human into a vamp. Interesting. And... his honesty(?) in telling Beth that he would have '...done the same..' if it had been her .. hmmmmmm... VERY interesting. I think he only said that so she wouldn't accuse him of letting Josh die for some ulterior motive.
OK. So .. will Mick EVER confess his feelings for Beth? I think that must happen eventually but don't think the two will ever really 'get together'because that would kinda spoil some of the suspense and sexual tension that keeps the show really interesting. I really would like to see them get together and fight the Bad Guys as a team as well as lovers, but just don't know .... hmmmm. Got to admit .. If I were Beth, I'd certainly be open to the possiblities .. What red-blooded woman wouldn't?????
Hate to think of going without any new episodes for a while, but am sure CBS will just about HAVE TO renew Moonlight for at least another season! Looking forward to that!!!

I wasn't as gung ho about this ep as I always am with this show. Maybe it was the Josh/Beth bit and having it get in the way of Mick saying he loved her. And knowing that now that he's dead he's going to come between them even more than he ever could when he was alive bugs me and I guess that's what spoiled the show for me. Thinking of what's going to happen next. I'm looking forward to next week but I too will have withdrawal pains after the end of the last shot show. Love it, even if this time I felt something missing.

Finally a NEW episode and WHAT a show it was! Enjoyed, however, isn't it about time Mick & Beth finally get it on??? Why continue to down play this role? Why continue to distance the chemistry between these two? Granted, her Josh has finally 'deceased' the 'scene' Let's BRING IT ON! The real & true passion between Beth & Mick! PLEEAAASSSEEEE!!! Let's keep it real!

Well, it’s really only one: why would Tahara’s men kidnap Josh and take him somewhere else to kill him if the endgame is Josh’s death? Why not just kill him on the street in front of Beth’s place
The captions read Tejada as saying, "bring me that DA; and I want him alive". But seeing as his goon screwed up and killed the cop, when they called him from the car, the plans evidently changed.
One thing I did enjoy was seeing Mick with his shirt off at the top of the episode. Am I right ladies? Sorry, guys, I’m not sure there was much eye candy for you.
Depends on the gimplygump, err, guy you ask.
So what did you think of Josh’s demise?
Honestly, I've disliked the character since day #1, but when I saw him get kidnapped and Mick went off to save him, I saw a whole other potential for the character. My mind imediatly saw Mick saving Josh by using his vampilities in front of him, thus letting him in on the secret. This would have effected the love triangle, but it might very well have opened the door to a whole bucket of new stories.
I never wanted the character dead, just off the screen. But this was the first, and obviously last, episode I liked him in.
As for the bar fight, I thought Mick was rather careless about showing his fangs. But he did vengeance well.

Gosh, we haven't heard from Cobby yet! This episode made me very very sad and I was disappointed like Dorjean about Beth returning to Josh after New York. I thought she'd have to tell him she has feelings for Mick... but still the loss of anyone you love (she obviously cared for Josh) is very wrenching. Mick is such a magical creature, that if he turns mortal in the next episode, will disappoint all of us. If he were mortal he couldn't have saved Beth from the bullet, he couldn't have gone after the bad guys. To Mdaily, the show is a fantasy and to get too picky about details is a little like picking apart a fairy tale, but I thought the thigh wound was from the back. I'll have to watch it again to see whether we actually 'see' a bullet entering his thigh from the front, although one of the guys got out of the car and came around to shoot into the trunk.

I thought the show started out great with the exercies. We all need a little of that (well it doesn't hurt to watch) - I felt bad for Mick when Beth answered the door in a t-shirt. I guess Josh would have to be out of the picture but maybe next season because I know this show just has to come back. I understand her pain about Josh being gone and as to her question about Mick turning her to save her I just think he would have to after he has been watching her grow over the years. Has it been mentioned if it matters who is the one that turns them? I mean if he wouldn't could Josef do it or one of the others and she still be with Mick? Would you want someone other that Mick to be the one? Josef wouldn't be bad thought would he. LOL! Two hotties on one show. Will he tell Beth that he avenged Josh's death? I guess there is only one new show left, but will we still see the reruns? I have never enjoyed reruns so much. Catch something new everytime that I missed. Love this show and now the name Mick!

Mdaily: I just rewatched it and the bullet wounds we see are all exit wounds from being shot from the back. I haven't seen Dexter, but since it's coming to CBS I'll get to watch it and see if I agree it's a great show. I've been a little resistant to watching a show with a serial killer hero. Vampires are mythological creatures and as such are more easily felt as heroes, especially one who has as much 'heart' as Mick.

I liked this episode alot and the fight scenes were awesome. As someone mentioned in another post, Mick bringing forth his vampirism willingly was WONDERFUL and the bar scene exciting, I loved it. I've watched the interrogation scene and the bar scene 5 times so far. When the DVR comes to the end I just back it up to the interrogation and watch it all over again to the end. CRAZY WOMAN I AM.
Some of the negatives/inconsistencies mentioned were clarified by other posters re: bullet through Josh's leg, I saw the ep twice and I think the bullet through the leg was from the back to the front.
The chemistry between Josh & Beth was sincere by Josh but FORCED by Beth. Imagine the guilt she felt the next day after having partaken in a sexual lie the night before. So Beth told Josh she loved him..!! what was she supposed to do at that monent...tell him "lets split up" or "no I don't love you", she thought she loved him at one time until "you know who showed up", white lies are told everyday by lovers or supposed lovers so not to hurt the other more than necessary. We all know someone gets hurt in a lopsided relationship.
NEXT WEEK'S EPISODE: shows Coraline slicing into Mick's arm with a knife with what looks like blood on the tip of it and inserting it into his arm. At that point she is saying "I took your life, let me give back what I can" and then the next scene Beth says "are you human"? I guess we'll have to wait to find out that answer.
Here are my thoughts about the last 3 episodes. There were 8 episodes originally written and somewhere inbetween there Nina Tassler called for 4 more which brought them to 12. I THINK at that point CBS still wasn't sure whether they were going to continue with Moonlight but had the writers write the scripts with CONCLUSIONS to the scenarios already presented, therefore, if the show didn't continue there still would be CLOSURES for the audience, but open ended if it were to continue. Now thrown into this mix was the writers strike (which I'm sure CBS knew was coming) plus the SHOW WAS A HIT and then WON BEST NEW TV DRAMA. So now they have no choice but to continue with the show and they'll have new starting points.
MICK WORKING OUT AT THE BEGINNING MADE ME DROOL.......as Kandye said, they can start each ep like that everytime as far as I'm concerned.
p.s. I'm up to about 15 times watching Alex's acceptance speech but now when he waves goodbye to the audience I wave back. MESICKO

I think Josh was a character with a lot of potential, just not as Beth's boyfriend. The 'sex scene' was just painful to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if she shut her eyes and fantisized about somebody else. Hello, Beth, if it's so horrible, you could have broken up with him weeks ago. I'm sure there are a few dozen ladies who would have been happy to snap him up.
But Josh was just as heroic as Mick in his own, mortal way, fighting bad guys with the letter of the law, with his resolve. I'm not sure if Mick could have even turned Josh, don't you have to still be techincally alive for it to work? Not to mention, all the people hovering around. I know Beth was distraught, but shouldn't have Mick pointed that out? That's just as good of a reason, and more practical, than the ones the show presented.
Yes, I missed Josef, but where was the room? Overall, a solid B episode. Not fabulous, but worth a second look.
