Episode Discussion: Sonata

Hi all-

I have to admit I'm quite shocked that CBS chose to cancel this show, especially considering all the fan support out there. I know many of you have already posted to Matt Roush's blog but also feel free to share your thoughts and opinions here too on that or last night's episode.

Are you excited about any of the network's new shows? Is there anything out there that might (I said might) take the place of Moonlight?

Thanks for opening a discussion, Kara!

Although I'm disappointed that Moonlight was canceled, I'm happy with the way the show ended. It would have been interesting to see how Mick and Beth's vampire/human relationship worked out. I was also curious about who sent the list to ADA Talbot and what the consequences of that action would be on the vampire community. The voice sounded like Josef, but I think it was Jackson. That would explain why he allowed himself to be burned with Emma. Oh, well...another show bites (pun intended) the dust. Sigh...

I loved the last episode of Moonlight last night. At least they gave the viewers the ending they wanted. However we don't want an ending at all.

I am more than disappointed that they chose to cancel this show. I sat here tonight (Saturday) and there was not one good show on worth watching. How can they say there is no time slot for this?

I am not interested in the new shows coming out next season. And I won't be watching many of them. I still can't believe that the networks don't think out of the box. Many successful shows took a while to establish themselves. Look at Buffy, it still lives on as a cult favorite. So many times the networks are too eager to pull the plug on a show with a following and good potential.

I have to ask why this show was not given another time slot or a chance for another season. The shows they chose to replace it with are silly garbage and and won't last a season.

Shame on CBS for again not listing to it's viewing audience.

I am so sad, upset and disappointed about the cancellation of Moonlight, I just can't express it properly. After all the road blocks the show had, including the strike, I cannot believe it won't be given a chance for a 2nd season.
It won the PCA, Alex O.(an incredible actor) won in the TV Guide's Sexiest of 2008, and the show has millions of devoted fans. The way CBS advertised its return with Mick saying, "did you miss me?" - and then the ads saying "just 2 more Micks and 2 more Beths to go - you will miss them!" - well, that is just cruel.
"Sonata"? All 16 episodes were fantastic, but that one was a mind blower. How exciting and sexy can you get?! They left so much open for story lines, I can't believe it - not only Mick & Beth, but Josef - Jason Dohring is great - and his new "girlfriend", the list of vampires left with the ADA, the fact that Beth works for him now; well, I could go on & on, but my point is - how frustrating is THAT?!
I am crushed, and I just hope there is still a chance for the fans to convince another network to pick the show up. I have read so many conflicting reports and advice on-line, it's making me nuts! I just don't want to let it go.
Please let us know if you think there is any chance that we can:_| reverse this horrible situation, and just for the record, no, I am not excited or even remotely interested in any new shows or any of the ones that are already on - just Moonlight.

Yes, Sonata was just the latest, greatest episode in the latest, greatest TV show that deserves a second chance -- and a second season -- Moonlight!

I read Alex O'Loughlin's message on the CBS Moonlight Community Board saying that he would continue to fight for Moonlight. Alex, please keep up that fight! I know it's been a long, hard road -- I'm an actress myself -- and many times we're asked to work long hours, under uncomfortable conditions, for difficult people, but we do it because we love the craft.

In the grand scheme of things Moonlight is just a TV show. However, this fight is not just about Moonlight, or the wonderful cast and great writers, or even about Alex. Alex is a very talented actor, and I know he'll land on his feet and grace our screens, both large and small, for many years to come.

What this fight is about is the voice of the people -- in this case the fans -- which is being silenced by the entertainment bureaucrats at CBS who have nothing to do with the craft, but everything to do with money and politics.

All my life I've been told to pick my battles. Well, this has become my battle, as I hope it will be for many other Moonlight fans. Among other things, I intend to do the following:

1. Regularly and continuously call the various CBS and WB phone lines and send them e-mails protesting the cancellation of Moonlight.

2. Send personal letters and e-mails to the CBS and WB executives who are responsible for the cancellation and/or renewal of television programming requesting the return of Moonlight to the fall schedule.

3. Add my name to legitimate petitions decrying the demise of Moonlight and calling for its resurrection next season.

4. Contact CW, FOX, ABC, SCI-FI and other television networks asking that they add Moonlight to their fall schedules.

5. Encourage my friends to start online, letter and television boycotts of CBS -- and perhaps even set up good, old-fashioned picket lines in front of CBS studios and local stations in their cities. Unless they bring Moonlight back, I will be boycotting CBS next season.

We have all summer to make CBS, Warner Brothers and all the other "powers that be" sit up and take notice! Television is about the fans who tune in, tape, download, buy merchandise, and in other ways patronize our favorite shows. Without the fans, there would be no television executives making these decisions.

I believe that if enough of us speak out, we can make ourselves heard and perhaps make a difference. We owe it to Alex, we owe it to the rest of the cast and crew, and most of all, we owe it to ourselves . . . the fans of Moonlight!

Well, this show is certainly going out on a high note. "Sonata" was one of the best episodes of the series, with excellent use of all of the secondary characters. I loved the examination of a long-term vamp relationship, and how it really isn't that different from a human one. I also liked seeing how vamps live such long lives (the couple who got married every 20 years or so, the college "cheerleader" who got her blood fix by doing drunk frat boys...). And there were certainly mysteries left to explore: what's going on w/ Coraline, what is Josef's backstory and how did he and Mick become friends, who is sending the info to the ADA (was it that paparazzi from a few eps ago?). I liked this depiction of vampire culture and their survival tactics. I'll miss this show, and I hope, though don't expect, that it'll move to another network. Til then, goodbye Mick.

I agree Sonata was one of the best episodes. I'm really disappointed with CBS for cancelling Moonlight. It had so much possiblities...the stories were endless. However, I did love the way the season ended. But, we still have answered questions regarding who sent the list to ADA Talbot. I also would like to know how Mick and Beth worked out their relationship. I hope this saga continues if not CBS, another network.

Hi Everybody --

We've been coming up with ways to try to save our show, too. We've received tons of ideas, so come join the discussion and see what else there is to do at: http://community.tvguide.com/blog/M00nlighters-Blog/800067674. We just have to get another network to pick this show up! I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet. Are you?

This episode is a prime example of the quality of writing and acting on this show. A show that has won its key demographic and time slot each week deserves a 2nd chance. Check out moonlightline.com for information on saving our show.

CBS could have boosted ratings anytime by either moving the show or advertising it more. The ratings the show had were due to the commitment of its viewers to spread news of the show around.

I believe this show was cancelled not for ratings but for corporate political reasons.

There are so many unanswered questions, Mick's ring, Josef past, who sent the list, the sire Coraline was taken too, the bloodlines. Moonlight has so much to offer. Bring Back Moonlight.

Shocked isn't the right word really, for what I'm feeling about Moonlight being cancelled. :(

The show brought me so much joy. The cancellation feels like a death and I am in mourning. There are millions around the world in mourning along with me too.

It wasn't just about a vampire. It was about love, trust, romance, honor, and sacrifice. There isn't much of that on TV these days, if you ask me. I loved all the characters so much and felt their pain when they were hurting, smiled with them when they were happy and cried when they were sad. It hit me in the heart. Mick is the greatest character EVER on TV, IMO. He was everything you could dream of and more.

We are not giving up though. Going quietly into the night is not in the fan's vocabulary. Emails/calls/letters are being sent out.

This war ain't over.

I really hope this show comes back on. The finale was fantastic! Absolutely wonderful! The look on Mick's face when he went back out into Beth's hallway and put his head against the wall... perfectly swoon worthy. I love the pace of this show and it was just starting to hit its stride. It needs a second season, desperately. I can't understand why it wouldn't be given a second season, especially with the lingering pilot problems caused by the strike. This decision to cancel seems like poor management to me. Just think of the dvd sales, iTunes revenue, etc... I'd bank on it as a good business decision. But what do I know. I hope it gets saved. I'd watch it on any network. I'd even pay per view. Now that's an idea!

NOOOOO it cant be cancelled!!! im devastated :( the finale was FAB! the end was just perfect...usually at the end of a show he would have just walked out and not gone back...but when he knocked on the door and went in...aaw...and his line "...because i love you" just brilliant! i was in tears! if it has to end im glad it ended that way, altho i wish we could have seen more.

No... It can't be true. I really liked this show. I was looking forward to another season. There really isn't much more that I like watching right now. The last episode was great but please don't let it be the last one...
