May 9, 2007: "Heads Will Roll"

Thanks for cutting me some slack getting the Medium blog up. Now without further ado I give you:

One of the best openings I’ve seen on this show.
One of the best shows this season; I still have goosebumps.
One creepily believable performance from Neve Campbell as sneaky, underhanded reporter, PD MacColl.

Other great titles for this show would have been,
“Life Needs Your Attention” or “Stop the Murderer, Stop the Murder”. Where have I heard something like that before? Any Heroes fans out there – “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World” ring any bells?

So, this being May sweeps, the folks over at Medium, really tried to pack a lot in. There was more humor than normal, a film noir short and Howie Mandel himself. Plus by putting Phoenix’s great DA, Manuel Devalos on the auction block, we’ve got the perfect setting for a real cliffhanger with next week’s show.

To start Joe’s meeting with his father was hysterical. The entire conversation was brilliantly written and the best line was – “You’ve got a happy marriage to Haley Joel Osment.” And then when his dad started talking with Allison’s voice, I lost it.

A morning where the girls aren’t fighting – how refreshing! Ariel was actually helping Bridgette with spelling, or was she? She asked Bridgette to spell, “jocular,” not an easy word for me, much less a fourth grader.

The serial killer is being called “The Recapitator” by PD/Debra and by virtue of her article slandering Manny, everyone else. It sounds as gross as the images look.

Allison and Joe had a couple of heart to hearts without processing their feelings to death. When Allison replied to Joe that she was smiling because he was finally, “Talking to me. I miss that,” I almost cried. Their relationship is heartfelt. If the producers decided to put out relationship self-help book entitled, “Joe and Allison, One Couple’s Journey to Marital Bliss,” they would be smiling all the way to bank.

Joe’s been given some juicy storylines of late, and I hope this was a concerted effort by the folks at Medium central to keep him interested and keep him on the show. I can’t imagine Medium without him, even if he never shows us those blue boxers again.

The film noir take on the new DA’s little pep talk to the detectives was fantastic! It conjured images of those old films. Scanlon looks even better in black and white and blue.

Another great line, “When did Howie Mandel become our babysitter?” preceded another great moment in the show, Allison being a contestant on his show, Deal or No Deal. It also foretold the nasty conversation she would have later with the DA when she finds out she has been completely betrayed by that nasty reporter.

I knew when Allison was telling PD/Debra who she is, she was making a big mistake. I was literally yelling at the TV for her to stop. . I don’t ever think I’ve seen Neve play mean before – she’s always the nice girl. That ability to play such a heartless, ruthless, conniving person is testament to her great talent.

What an exciting show this was. I have to say, this whole season has been rather top-notch. I am jumping at the bit to find out what’s in store for the season finale next week – (can you believe this season is over?) Any theories of what will happen? Personally, I think PD/Debra might have a few secrets up her sleeves. Be good. See you next time.

Let me just say I HATE REPORTERS and I wish PD would die already.

I'm concerned that if the cat's out of the bag that the show will become full of the family being tormented by regular people. Like, the kids get teased at school, Joe's work/lawsuit thing gets affected, groupies show up at their door, the neighbors give them a hard time, etc. I'm not sure I like where the writers are going, but the show is so well written that I guess I'll give them the beney of the doubt...for now.

Hurray - thanks for the great news Paula about it being renewed.....now lets just hope that the last couple of episodes are just a really bad DREAM that Allison is having.............think back to DALLAS when Bobby was only dreaming the entire season.?<img border=">

Since this show is a reflection of the real Allison Dubois and her family, I am sure it will be OK.

I agree with you Jeri. Great news about it being renewed! I really like Patricia Arquette - she's kinda quirky (like me :)

Oh..we have another week. I was confused and was thinking that was the finale. I thought it was pretty anti clamatic for a finale.

Neve was a bad girl in Wild Things w/ Denise Richards and Matt Dillon. She seems to have dug deep and found some of that character.

I too was ready to scream at the TV to tell Allison to shut the heck up as she spilled her guts. Then for Debra to tell her "I hope you get the psychiatric help that you need"...WOW, what a witch.

Hopefully she (Debra) will die and they will not have any backing to her story except for her word.. I think it has too since they would ruin the show if next season was all about damage control...unless Allison no longer works for the DA office and becomes a PI or something..I wouldn't care for that.

I loved Joe's conversation w/ his dad..and his struggles with work, that story line was great. I wasn't thrilled w/ the Deal or No Deal plug..even though it was a dream and it did fit the story line I kept thinking to myself "I don't think Deal or No Deal's ratings are hurting..enough already"..I kept thinking about the time they were wasting..

I can't wait to see how this plays out..

Paula, shut your mouth!! While I too would be devastated if Jake Webber/Joe left I will also miss the blue boxers :)

There is so much about your blog I agree with. I though Allison's smile when Joe was talking to her was so beautiful. It was very heart touching.

The scene w/the dad was hysterical and I loved the Haley Joel Osment comment.

I just loved this whole episode and I can't wait to see how it plays out next week.

I don't think this is a dream as one blogger suggested. As I said b4 this show is based on the real Dubois family and Allison's abilities do come out eventually.

Yes the world knows about Allison Dubois now, but in the TV show I think it is too soon for her secret to come out...so that is why I'm just hoping it's a dream. If the world finds out about her then the DA for sure will be fired as could Scalon and all those convicts could appeal their verdicts...see it's just too soon for it to come out.

Oh, is that what that noise was last night? All the Medium fans collective screaming at the TV for Allison to shut up and not say another word to that witch!

Paula, thanks for mentioning Scanlon. I was beginning to wonder - first we see him twice and his has no dialogue, but finally he speaks! I'm really disappointed with the amount of time Scanlon has been in these last episodes - the season started with a good amount and now has dwindled. They could've left the scene with DiNovi on the cutting room floor in favor of one more Scanlon scene.

They must read our minds over there! We have just been wondering about Joe's father this season - this was his first appearance in Season 3 - I loved it! He's so sarcastic! So far he's made at least one appearance in every season.

Can't wait until next week. PD or Debra or whatever she calls herself can die already - we'll all yell at the screen - "see, told ya - nanny nanny boo boo". Ha!

How long has the show been on the air, 3 years? If we assume that TV time is faster than real time, than it is time for it to come out. The fact that something like that didn't come out sooner is a miracle. Come on a physic in the DA's office. I think next season is going to be interesting b/c all of the cases will have to be re-opened and Devalos and Scanlon and that blonde chick will be under scrutiny. I just hope if doesn't drag on to long. I would miss the stories.

I missed the news about the show being renewed. (A little Googling led me to the story.) GREAT news! Hopefully this will mean we'll get season 3 on DVD - I can't wait to revisit some of the great episodes we've seen this year.

I don't want Neve's character to die just to save Allison's job and her coworker's credibility. I would like her to have the CRAP scared out of her, though, and saved at the last minute. This might help turn her into a valuable resource for the Phoenix DAs office. Hmmmm.

Loved all the little moments last night: Joe's dad, Deal or No Deal. Can't wait until next week! (And the suspense over Joe's job and the lawsuit is killing me, too.)

I was very annoyed at Allison last night and last week as well. It was painfully obvious to me that Neve was fishing for information. Allison should have suspected something after Neve said the thing about why the DA would care what Allison has to say. I'm just disappointed at how Allison could be so stupid.

Didn't really like the Deal or No Deal material. Went on way too long and felt like a commercial for the show. Joe and his father were amusing. The noir stuff was good fun. I am also hoping that the secret doesn't get out. The show would have to constantly deal with that next season if it gets out. This killer kinda reminds me of the killer on Dexter. Of course the Dexter one chopped up the body a bit more, but they both like to play games with the authorities. And the Dexter blog is also done by Paula, so the similarities are endless!!

Question. Allison told Neve that the people who knew were The DA, a detective and someone in the mayor's office. I assume she meant the blond woman who can't act to save her life. Does she know about Allison? I didn't think she did..maybe I missed something or maybe its someone else.

The Deal or No Deal thing was fun but completely gratuitous and pointless. Bit of a stunt really. I am so glad Jake Webber has had a more interesting role this season. The problems with the possible legal action was interesting. Will he want to keep his job and take their bonus, or quit and sue?
