May 16, 2007: “Everything Will Come to a Head”

Season finales make me wistful. The third part of a trilogy bringing Neve Campbell and Jason Priestley to the Dubois roost wrapped the season up nicely. I love when everything comes together and there are no loose ends.

This show, while not quite as fantastic as last week’s, still held its own, especially when you consider Allison’s special talents and the risks she had to take to solve the murder of her friend/enemy PD MacColl.

Everyone got a spot in this show — Manny, Scanlon and Lynn. Scanlon finally got some good scenes as well, and he and Lynn are back together. Those two are very on again, off again. Perhaps next season they might even have a subplot of their own….

Joe had another decent story line, losing his job because of Allison’s newly exposed abilities, yet still loving his wife at the end of the day. What a guy! Clone him, please.

Manuel lost his job as well, but since Allison had his back, I’m sure it was only temporary.

Best Line:
PD/Debra came in third place while trying to get a rise out of Allison, shouting, “C’mon, Allison, I’m the devil you know.”

Scanlon won runner-up with two tasty morsels. First, he tried to make Allison his co-conspirator in a little light crime against "Van Dick": “I’m headed out to go key his car, wanna come?” Then, when talking about the meeting he had to attend with the acting DA he said it was going to be some “truly inspirational ball-busting.”

Jason Priestley beating up Neve Campbell was truly gruesome. Frankly, I found it worse than the head in the box.

Best Line:
But the top award goes to Allison, after Scanlon told her, “Your dreams are not evidence.” When handing over the real evidence to Scanlon and putting Van Dyke in his place, she said, “You can thank me later.” That was priceless.

So the good news is that Medium was renewed for next season. The bad news is that as of right now it is slated to air on Sundays against that show with the ladies of Wisteria Lane. Perhaps by the time September rolls around, the execs at NBC will have come to their senses. A lot of people would like to see it air after Heroes on Mondays. That’s a pretty smart idea. Maybe I’ll get a petition going. Would you sign?

wow, Paula, you post these things really late/early, depending on how you look at it.

i'm very satisfied with this season of Medium. It's so creepy to see Debra slowly come to realize that she was talking to a killler.

Did anyone else think of Scream when she was being chased by Priesley's character? Sydney Prescott wouldn't have flinched...she's escaped 3 scary movies for goodness sakes.

I disagree with Paula in that there are no loose ends. The crime was definitely resolved nicely, but the daily personal lives of everyone who is close to Allison has been affected by this event. I'm looking forward to the next season to see how Allison deals with everyone knowing (more importantly, I wonder how the people would react when they found out she truly did help them solve the crime).

Am I mean that I was little happy that PD did *indeed* get killed? She was sooo sure she wasn't going to be and I felt a bit of satisfaction that Allison was vindicated.

I guess I don't understand how Allison's gift affects Joe's job or why that made him uninsurable. I can see the lawyers point though.

I hated seeing Jason Priestly as the bad guy. I really loved him as Brandon on 90210 and he was always such a good guy on there.

I'm glad that Medium was renewed for next season and I don't really mind the Sunday night slot(I don't watch Desperate Housewives) but I'm annoyed it's not slated to come back until after football is over, like January 2008, so that's like what 9 months until it comes back? Will I even remember or care about what happened this season by then?

I absolutely loved this episode with the exception of the way that Scanlon treated Allison. That really ticked me off. How dare he after everything they've been through and how she has helped him? That was out of character and ridiculous, IMO.

Ok, Neve Campbell should get nominated for an Emmy because she pulled it off. I wanted to smack her in the face, which to me means that she pulled the bitchy character off perfectly.

I too am upset with NBC for putting Medium against Desperate H. and not to mention Cold Case (two top 20 shows), and I really do like Cold Case. Are they trying to run the show into the ground? Medium is one of the most consistently good shows as far as the writing and acting. No episode has been a disappointment to me. I think that the writers are excellent. The show deserves the slot after Heroes. I hope NBC realized this. I don't want to wait until January.

Cheers to a great season!

Sarah527, no you are not mean in being happy PD got hers. She deserved it, for all the snarky, nasty comments and just for being a B#$%^ in general.

I actually liked Jason Priestly as the killer. I thought he did a great job, from an actors point of view and this should hopefully open up some new role opportunities for him.

I liked the look on 'Van Dick's' face when he realized that Allison truly gave it to him up the whazoo w/no vaseline and shut him down. I don't think she will be getting that Thanks, though. Next season should be interesting for her family and the DA's office once everyone else realizes that she really does speak to the dead. However since it seems that all states have at least one physic in their employ it shouldn't be the focus of the whole season.

I absolutely HATE the Scanlon/Lynn story. There is something so weak and wishy washy about her. I understand wanting a career but the fact she would hide it b/c it could have negative affect on that career is slimy and not worthy of Lee.

I have to say as much as I love Lee and Manny I was a litte disappointed in them in regards to how they treated Allison. I mean I am sure they had to have considered the idea that one day the secret would come out. On some level, even if it was subconscious, they should have been some what prepared. Especially considering her track record for closing the case is pretty darn good, a little more support would have been nice. Heck, a phone call would have been nice. 'Allison, sorry but gotta lay low for the moment' SOMETHING. :-/

I also dont agree that all loose ends were tied up. In fact, can a recording really be evidence to sentence someone? What about Joe? Is he losing his job for real? What about Allison's job and wouldnt it be freaky if they just change DA's so she's have to start over making everyone believe her? What about the kids and school...are we really going to have to deal with all that next season?

Medium is one of those shows that is consistent and the writers are always keeping it fresh and new. I can't believe they are messing with the time slot. Im so sick of these networks switching around stuff and cancelling shows just because of a few less viewers or just because of a whim....Medium deserves a good time slot and i'd definitely sign a petition on that.

The time slot doesn't bother me at all. I don't watch DH, it is a soap opera and I loathe soap opera's. Gave them up when I was 18 around the same time I stop reading Harlequinn romances and believing in knights and white horses.

I like the lose ends. Let's me know there are all types of juicy possibilities for next season. Joe's job (b/c in real life Joe still has his job), the kids and school, Allison's position, Is Manny still DA? Can't wait.

Great ep! I agree that the best line was Allison's at the end. I for one will not be watching Desperate Houswives next season. Medium is much, much more interesting.

I'll sign that petition Paula!!

********1st I must say ************
It has been great blogging with all you Medium Bloggers. You are the best. HAVE A GREAT SUMMER EVERYONE ""
Now for my comments. Great episode. But just don't see how a few kicks could knock PD out so long that Jason Priestly could go get his tools. But we did know she was going to die so oh well.

The entire episode seemed like a dream to me. Scanlon treatment of Allison, Manual just leaving town and not telling her, Joe getting fired, kids barely not being teased at school....all to unreal.
But in the end I"m glad Allison wasn't dreaming the entire thing and I'm glad she vindicated herself.

Last Gripe....NOT ENOUGH BRIDGET.

TAKE CARE MY BLOGGERS :)

Now that I know how it ends, I loved this trilogy, and I loved the pissed-off Allison at the end. I just hope no one accidentally erases the tape...

One thing made me feel cheated—I desperately wanted a scene between Allison and PD's ghost. It would have been very satisfying after all the crap PD put her through (I'd expect a post-mortem apology), not to mention wonderfully ironic.

To Diane-Audrey

I actually felt that the public's reaction was pretty realistic. First, we know that real-life Allison is "out" and living a fairly normal life. And second, we're in an age where presidents hire astrologists and psychics are a common concept. Those who don't believe are amused, those who do accept it.

Even Arial's bad moment was from only one kid, and not because he didn't believe, but because he did. Nice touch and (for me) very believable.

On the other hand, Joe's getting fired was confusing. Not only that, but hadn't he already come back to work for a week? Why wasn't signing the non-liability form and the insurance an issue before he went back to work that first time? Continuity error? Or are we suppose to believe that the company found out about the lawyer pestering Joe and tried to take precautions? That really made no sense to me.

Diane-Audrey, the whole episode had a dream like quality to me also. I kept expecting her to wake up. Was it just me but did any one notice that the cleaning man seemed to go all static-y? Maybe it was just my TV.

Paula, get the petition going and I will sign it.

Have a good summer everyone.

Paula - great blog.....

And I agree with the line at the end - that was great!

I'll sign a petition to move it back to Monday. That's where it started (at least for me) - and I'd prefer to have the show on Monday night after 24, especially since both will return in January!

JGM60 - good points there. I too wish they had done a post mortem scene with PD and Allison. That would have been icing on the cake.

Jerri36 - so glad you felt the dream like situation too. I did not notice the cleaning guy going Static-y but I did tape it as well so I'll check it out again.

I'M JUST SO HAPPY THIS IS RENEWED and actually am glad it starts in January because then there are no long weeks w/o episodes and they are all new for the entire season.
