Episode Recap: "Paris Changes Everything"
Last time we left The Hills, many things were left hanging in the balance. Would Lauren return from Paris with Brody waiting for her? Would Spencer and Heidi make it through another rough patch? Would Lauren and Heidi ever make up? Welcome to the start of a new season where hopefully all those questions will eventually be answered.
Lauren and Whitney arrive in Paris with their driver for the week waiting. He hands them their itinerary and the work begins. They must pick up shoes for the debutantes and then pick up their ball gowns. Too excited to wait, they go get their gorgeous dresses and by the time they get to the next stop, the store is closed. Already we can see this trip to Paris is not going to be a smooth one.
Back in the US Heidi has returned home to Colorado, trying to figure out if her relationship with Spencer is worth repairing. In LA, Spencer is a mess and his sister makes him realize he has no choice but to go after her. He arrives in Crested Butte to be greeted by her father. I loved his reaction to Spencer showing up. “What the heck…(silence)…are you doing here?” It was a bit of an awkward conversation that ended with Spencer waiting inside for Heidi’s return.
In Paris, Lauren and Whitney are put to work. Lauren makes her second mistake and answers her cell phone. Helloo, this is your chance to prove yourself, don’t answer your phone in front of your boss. Audrina is on the other end with not so great news. Brody has a girlfriend. Lauren is in shock but Whitney quickly suggests that they too can find boyfriends in 2 days. So they go and meet up with a band that Lauren has met before. Not before long, she and Matthias lock eyes and we know Lauren has a new crush. The next evening the boys invite Lauren and Whitney out but Lauren has nothing to wear. She ponders wearing her ball gown and then convinces herself she can hem it without making a hole. Third night, third mistake. Dinner in Colorado looks awful. Heidi makes a toast to her parents for loving and supporting her, looks at Spencer, and says, “And that’s about it.” Okay I know things didn’t end well between the two, but when did Heidi get so nasty? She wants nothing to do with Spencer and for the first time, EVER, I sort of feel bad for the guy. Heidi basically tells him to leave.
The girls are out in Paris and Lauren is torn between two guys. It’s 2 am and time to leave. As Lauren and Whitney are walking outside, Matthias runs up to Lauren and says, “You are leaving me without kissing bye-bye?” Maybe that was supposed to be romantic but it just made me laugh. She gives him the double kiss and goes on her way. The next morning she takes out the seam she put in the dress when she realizes there is a huge, cannot be missed, stain on her dress. Did she honestly think wearing it on the town, it would come back home perfectly? She freaks out and has Whitney call up the manager of Alberta Ferretti. It doesn’t seem promising but when she hangs up Whitney tells Lauren if they can get there in 15 minutes he’ll have a dress for her. What would a Lauren/Teen Vogue event be without a crisis barely averted? She grabs the dress and they make their way to the Crillon Ball. When it’s all over, Kimball sends Lauren on an errand and takes the opportunity to question Whitney’s intention at the magazine. She tells him that she sees herself dealing with fashion more directly rather than being behind the scenes and he certainly agrees. This is our first hint that Whitney’s journey at Teen Vogue may be coming to an end soon. Meanwhile, Lauren gets a call from Matthias who wants to take her around Paris for her last night. He takes her on his Vespa and they ride off into the sunset in the City of Lights. They return the next morning and she tells him to call her when he’s in LA. Something tells me this isn’t the last that we’ll see of Matthias.
It’s back to reality for Lauren and Whitney who return from Paris. It’s also back to LA for Spencer who must leave Heidi to figure things out. This is one fight that doesn’t seem like it can be mended.
So was the premiere all you hoped it to be? And how good does this upcoming season look? Stephen and Lauren re-igniting flames, Heidi and Audrina repairing their friendship and Lauren and she-Spencer in the same class. Cannot wait!!

Okay, I might be the only person shamefully addicted to this show. I just needed to get this out of my head. Other than the well covered breast enhancements, what the hell has Heidi done to her lips? She is looking weirder and weirder as the show progresses. She is truly becoming a Barbie doll, bad platinum dye job, big boobs, and faux tan. She was very pretty before and this morphing new look is not suiting her very well.
Otherwise the show was exactly as I expected, especially since the world knows what happens in advance due to magazine coverage.

I must say there were times during this episode when I was a little disappointed in Lauren. First, she wore her silver ball gown out on the town?! That was just stupid. Then she has a stain on it and poor Whitney has to do the calling. Then to top it off, the guy who loaned her the first and then the second dress told her to take care of it and she gets on the Vespa in that gorgeous white dress. Not smart!!
Otherwise, I enjoyed the episode. I hope Lauren will move on from Brody. I think she should kick him to the curb and not even give him the time of day. I know that she will try to remain friends with him because the show execs will want her to for the sake of the show, but that seems too much for her to bare and isn't really fair.
Lauren, Whitney, Lo, and Audrina make the show. I for one wish Heidi and Spencer would fade into the sunset!

By the way, Heidi's parents do seem nice and my heart goes out to them in the recent loss of the stepfather's son.

Okay, had she left her dress at the hotel, it would still have gotten BURNED. It wasn't a stain.
And I think Spencer's sister tried to talk him out of going to Colorado.
I thought Matthias was a tad creepy, and I would never have hopped on a Vespa with him in the freezing cold.
I thought it was about d@mn time that Heidi treated Spencer that way; now he's finally had a little bit of his own medicine. Yay Heidi for having a backbone, even if she had to go all the way to Colorado to find it!!

Does no one else besides me & scout302 see Lauren's selfishness & immaturity?? I mean it's like she didn't even hear a word the guy at Ferretti's said. Or more likely, didn't care what he said. Young & dumb. Hoping on a Vespa in white, mind you borrowed, ball gown. This isn't the 1st time I've noticed her Laissez-faire attitude. Grow Up.

Lauren is a total idiot! She gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Paris. The first time, she decides to shack up with her idiot boyfriend because everyone knows that the douchebag alcoholic you fall for when you're 20 is going to be the love of your life forever.
Then she takes the opportunity a second time and proceeds to make stupid decisions and phone it in while she's there. Taking a personal call during a shoot. Wearing the FREE Alberta Ferritii dress to a club, hemming it and then burning it with a curling iron and then having the nerve to make Whitney call and ask for another free one! Then wearing the second dress out in the rain on a motorcycle with some skinny pant wearing chainsmoking douche!
This girl just does whatever she wants because she knows that MTV will pay for her mistakes. Give me a break. If not for Whitney and (I can't believe I'm going to say this but) Heidi, this show would just be another platform to watch dumb girls throw away all their potential over dumb boys.
Go Heidi! Just please stop making amateur music videos.

I was trying to figure out why Heidi looked different last night and it was her lips!! I'm glad she is standing up for herself, but I have a feeling it won't last long, her Spencer have been seen together recently (sidenote: her songs and videos are horrible!!)
So Lauren and Whitney go get their dresses first, and the shoe store is closed (which I believe was set up) then Lauren ruins her dress and she can just go get another one!! Yeah right, the show is interesting but I am really beginning to question the reality of it.
I wish they had shown more of what happened in Paris, I knew they weren't going to be there for that long, but a lot can happen in a week. So back to LA we go, Audrina and Heidi???? The return of Stephen?? It should be an interesting season.

ITA - Heidi looked very freakish, I definitely got distracted by her lips/chin area. Weird. I admired her for sticking up for herself, lets hope she can repair the damage he's done. Sadly, I see their relationship going back to the way it was, but I guess we'll see.
I also agree about Lauren's carelessness about the dress and they way she handled herself in her work environment. The one thing I noticed is that the girls were told the place was very dressy (which is why she wore the gown) yet the guys were all in jeans?
So, even though I really should not be watching these shows since I am probably WAY too old, LOL (mid-30s), there are my 2 cents

Don't feel bad BostonGal, I'm 41 and am addicted to this show too (and of course, Gene Simmon's Family Jewels). Looks like Heidi had an upper lip wax, maybe? It was definitely distracting whatever it was. And I still can't believe how Lauren can sometimes act mature (remember, I said sometimes) and then all of a sudden, boom!, she blows it by doing something dumb. Getting on the Vespa had me cringing!!! Oh well...that's reality for ya, right?!

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but did the person wrote the recap actually watch the episode?!
The dress was ruined by a curling iron not a stain from the previous night. Spencer's sister told him NOT to go to Colorado and lastly they said Audrina had met them before, not Lauren.
If your job is to write the recap, at least be accurate....

harperstewart, that's okay. You're right. Stain or burn, it doesn't matter. She shouldn't have worn an expensive, loaned dress out on the town!
I know I'm probably one of the oldest Hills fans, but I am a mother of a college-age daughter (20). She got me started watching the show. And she would never be that disrespectful to someone who loaned her an expensive dress or whatever. Just saying....
Don't get me wrong, Lauren is my favorite on the show, but she does need to grow up some. And I really hope the poor girl moves on from Brody and stops making bad dating choices. But, I know she's young!

I guess it's true, the heart wants what it wants. It's the same with Lauren wanting Brody and Heidy wanting Spencer (who's also really bad for her). Except in Lauren's case, I think I read an article where Lo B. made a comment about Lauren usually wanting what she can't have.
I'm hoping a really nice normal guy comes along in Lauren's life eventually.
