Episode Recap: "Kindred"
I always doubted Candace’s “death.” In the season finale, she was lying on the floor defeated and lifeless, but it didn’t make sense. If she had died, her body would have changed to its original physical appearance. From the remarks she made about her weight and eating habits, I knew she wasn’t the thin, pretty brunette from last season or the tall redhead from this episode. Sylar proved my theory correct: she was an older, overweight woman. We know this, because — and please, stop reading if you haven’t watched the episode yet — he killed her.
Sylar returned and he’s weak. Why can’t he use his powers? Has he simply forgotten how, or are his injuries so severe that his body can’t handle it? I think it has something to do with the Company. The Company has something to do with everything.
Monhinder’s new workspace is Isaac’s old apartment. Nice move NBC, you saved money and time on settings and backgrounds. It also fits perfectly with the story. Although Isaac is gone, many of his paintings remain. I know Sylar may or may not still possess that power, but right now he‘s useless.
I haven’t heard the name “Horn-Rimmed Glasses” in awhile! I never liked calling him that, or HRG. So, I’m sticking with Mr. Bennet. His death is the eighth painting. Do you really think Claire would turn against her father? I doubt it. Then again, I used to think Mr. Bennet was a bad guy (the man kidnapped children on bikes!). We know an Isaac Mendez painting predicts a possible future event. But we also know the future can be altered or changed. A person’s destiny is not always what it seems. Destinies can change — just look at Hiro and Kensei.
How great was the pen-pal storyline between Ando and Hiro? I feel awful for Hiro. He is so in love with the swordsman's daughter, and yet, he made her fall in love with Kensei. Well, he made her think she was falling for Kensei. There was a lot of love in this episode. I was really enjoying Claire’s speech about being different, but when West told her to shut up and pulled a Clark Kent, I swooned. Yes, I said I swooned. I’m a girl and I like those things. I wish I could meet a guy who could fly!
We all knew Peter and Caitlin were going to have chemistry, but Peter almost killing someone? And enjoying it? That’s not the same Peter we knew. Now, let‘s not be too quick to judge. Blowing up can have its disadvantages and some side effects.
I’m so glad NBC didn’t repeat “What’s. In. The Box.” In fact, I didn't hear it once, so I used it as my title  . Peter got lucky and was given the box. He has spent the past two episodes wondering who he is and where he came from, but maybe his past wasn't good. I can understand why he is having second thoughts and looking inside. I don’t think it’s as simple as a wallet full of plastic cards with names — it holds much more. Could there be a way to trap memories?
I knew DL was dead. [Quick tip: If a character is not seen on promo tours during hiatus or featured in pictures and advertising, they are most likely gone.] I choked up when I read his tombstone. Husband - Father — Hero. My question is: Did he die in the season finale or did something happen in the four months that passed? If Parkman survived that many gun wounds in the finale, anything is possible.
The Company holds the key to all of our questions. What do you all think? Will Sylar become the villain we all love to hate once more? Who is the nightmare man in Molly’s dreams? Could Kensei ever understand the theory of evolution? Did the car Maya and Alejandro stole have a California high school mascot bumper sticker (someone please help me out here, I do not have DVR or TiVo!)? And speaking of cars, who stole Claire’s?

I'm sorry if this sounds nitpicky, but isn't stalker boys name WesT not Wes...at least that's what the Magazine says. Its been annoying the hell out of me that people can't even get the kids name right.

sci_fi40 - I looked it up on IMDB, and it says both, but our website says "West". I'll change it to West, but if someone knows for absolute sure - please let me know! Thanks!

I just finished watching it again, and that was definitely a "Go Conquistadors!" bumper sticker on Maya and Alejandro's getaway car. I wonder if that means they'll meet Claire?
Am I the only one who thought Candace's red-headed form was the spitting image of House's Jennifer Morrison?

Captions also say "West."
I want Ando and Hiro back together pronto! This whole storyline about Hiro back in time is driving me nuts.
Why did Sylar have to come back? Couldn't they do like Buffy did and make it so the villain's death ends the season? :-P I'm not that fond of his character. It's so exasperating!
And I eat up any moment that contains Peter. I always love his storyline, and Milo has really cut up! I want more of him. I wish the characters were blocked more like they were last year, where we followed a smaller set of characters for each episode. Right now there are so many in each episode that it makes the glimpses of a favorite storyline a bit frustrating.
Every time I read these blogs, a character is mentioned (like Maya and Alejandro) and I'll think to myself "Oh right, they WERE in this episode."
I want to know more about the big bad of the season. I want to see Kristen Bell. (Are my "I want"s driving you nuts?)
I kinda sorta liked how things ended up between West and Claire. Kinda sorta.... It just seemed to me like West knew all along that Claire had powers. Perhaps he had a bit of an ability to sense others' powers, sort of like Dania Ramirez's power in X-Men 3.

This episode was an improvement over the last two. I guess this show really needs a good villain like Sylar to keep things interesting. Without one, the show tends to be boring.
I'm getting kind of sick of Hiro and Kensei though. I really wish they'd get Hiro back to the present.
Were we supposed to recognize the woman that Nikki left Micah with?
Who was Candace talking to on the phone? How could her organization be stupid enough to send someone with powers to watch over Sylar? Hello, Sylar likes to kill people with powers! That's like sending a fly to watch over a spider.

Thanks for putting a spoiler alert... With regards to DL, you should be reading the online comics, esp. if you are blogging the show (and for all y'all fans, too --if you are reading blogs about Heroes, might as well be getting the ful experience.)

I certainly do hope you recognize the woman Micah was left with, elst you should have your geek cred revoked.
THAT was my favorite part of the ep. I can only wish upon the stars that she may have something more in common with Hiro's dad. Perhaps she's also fron a previous Generation in another way other than Trek.
BTW, Nichelle Nichols certainly deserves a red-letter hotlink under the TVGuide Links. Without question.

The big shock of Sylar's return - well it would have been if not for the previews. It was written and acted beautifully, even answered some of our questions about the finale, but then the trained monkeys in marketing decided that spoiling the surprise would be just a wonderful idea. (Ii also blew my theory that Candace was the assassin - if she was babysitting Sylar on Lost Island, then she probably wasn't throwing Hiro's father off a building.) And who thought Sylar was going to play nice?
Not surprised that DL died. He exerted himself a lot after being shot and would have lost a lot of blood by the time the ambos go to the plaza. And Niki just keeps making bad choices about who to trust.
Those aspiring illegal alien twins just keep finding creative ways to get separated, don't they? Let's try to steal a car in front of a police station!
I found Peter's "what if I don't like who I am?" thing a little weak. Curiosity would be way too strong, and if I didn't like the person in the box I could always throw it away. I would at least want to know my name.

Peter's storyline is so contrived. Oh look I can kick ass with my powers but I can't snatch away the box that is in front of me. Claire is really annoying me. Never liked her character in the first place. HRG is the best thing (and the best actor) on the show, I'd be pissed if he was killed over Boricca.

Isn't the getaway car that Maya and Alejandro took Claire' stolen car. That car was clearly a Rogue sponsored by the company that had ALL the commercials in the premeir episode. This is also the type of tangential connections that Heroes love to make.

I guess I'm the only one who found this episode incredibly boring. At least a third of it we had to read, unless we know Japanese and Spanish. I just felt like nothing was very interesting or surprising. Way too many characters tonight.
