Will More Heroes Suffer Mr. Nakamura's Fate?
Will this be the last we see of Mr. Nakamura? George Takei by Chris Haston/NBC
Episode Recap: "Four Months Later...." (September 24, 2007)
Of all the shows I follow, this was the premiere that had me fidgeting in my cubicle all day. I have never missed an episode. I nearly fell out of my chair when I received an email this past summer, saying that I would be the new Heroes blogger. This blog is important to TV Guide and Heroes fans alike. I myself used to read it every Tuesday morning before and after meeting my co-workers around the Heroes water-cooler. Needless to say, I hope I live up to all of your expectations, because this show just gets better and better!
First off, the symbol. You know what I’m talking about - the RNA strand that pops up everywhere. Tonight, it was painted in red on Mrs. Petrelli and Mr. Nakamura’s (may he rest in hero peace) torn photos, drawn by Molly, fashioned around Peter’s (he lives!) neck and carved within the handle of the famous Kensei/Hiro sword. So, what exactly does it mean? One known fact: When you receive a photo of yourself with the symbol, you have 24 hours to live. Thanks, Mr. Nakamura — you really knew your stuff.
Is it Sylar? Perhaps the man in Molly’s dreams? Or the past heroes who once worked with the Petrellis and Nakamuras? My money is on the past heroes, because Mr. Nakamura knew his killer. “Of all of them. I never expected you,” he said. I had chills! For some reason, I immediately thought of Claude, the invisible man.
Meanwhile, the Bennets moved to sunny California. (I assume Miss Panettierre made sure filming was no where near Laguna Beach!) Claire started at a new school and met a very cute boy (Nick D'Agosto). She also broke a bone and healed, which is always wicked cool to see! Oh, and that cute boy can fly. Do you think Claire will go for a guy with the same power as her dad? Not the printer-cartridge-filler/pinky-breaking dad - the other one, Nathan, with a super-power and new drinking problem.
Even in 1671, Hiro is adorable as ever! He was so disappointed to discover that his idol, Takezo Kensie (David Anders), is actually a jerk from England. So far, everything Hiro thought about the legendary Kensei has turned out to be a lie. Or has it?
Parkman is getting a divorce, but he gained a daughter. Kind of. Molly’s guardians are Suresh and Parkman. Suresh is lecturing on evolution and scheming against the company that Mr. Bennet once worked for. Parkman made detective! HOORAY! (And no, I do not agree with Molly. Parkman has natural talent, right? It can’t be considered cheating — if Barry Bonds can have a home run record, then Parkman can have a badge.)
We didn’t see Jessica/Niki, DL (by the way, I haven’t seen him anywhere) or Micah. But we did meet two new characters on the run: Maya (Dania Ramirez) and her brother, Alejandro. So far, Maya’s power scares the crap out of me. Does it happen when she gets scared and cries? Can she control it? And does her brother make her feel safe enough so that she doesn’t need to use it? If so, then I refuse to sit next to her unless he is between us.
This premiere answered a lot of questions and still managed to keep the characters and their stories interesting. I’m more intrigued than ever! It may not have been as exciting as it was to go five years into the future (do you remember how awesome that episode was?), but I have no worries, because Veronica Mars herself has joined the best cast ever! I can’t wait to see me some Kristen Bell .
Feel free to let me know what you think! I love checking back and reading any feedback and opinions, but please remember what you learned in grade school: If you can’t say anything nice, go read someone else’s blog.
And if you are still debating whether to buy the first season of Heroes on DVD, check out the review from my co-worker and fellow blogster, Jack Rodger here.
Our Video Guide is awesome too! You can watch clips from the premiere and get a glimpse of next week’s all-new episode.

wow, that was amazing...peter now has lightning? where do you think he got that? my guess is veronica mars
also, my guess as to who the guy killing the first generation is...kensei...his power is similar to clair's, so he can live that long and also survive jumping off a building...but who knows, its pretty crazy, so its probably wrong

Congrats on the new gig Casey!!
Yeah that that 5 years in the future episode was awesome!! I rewatched all of Season 1 in like 2 days.
So there are 9 of these people left in the company. I am assuming the dude who can turn things into gold is one of them (pretty nice power if you ask me).
Poor Mr. Nakamura. It was great having him on the show. And the dude that pushed him off the roof or should I say jumped off with him, was no where to be seen..what power does he have.
Claire's future boyfriend can fly...how poetic. I know it will be super hard for her to blend in. Can't wait for this relationship to develop some more.
Peter lives!! I knew he would. Why exactly he is in a shipping container on a ship in Iceland...beats me.
And this new villian... Who I am assuming is the dude with the creepy eyes...not really looking forward to meeting him.
Virus killing heroes As if they didn't have enough to worry about. Can't they catch a break
This season or should I say Volume is starting off to be a good one..and it seems like even better things are planned!! Looking forward to next week

Great show and great write-up, Casey.
Have you thought that perhaps Kensei will turn out to be Hiro? Obviously David Ander's Kensei is not the "hero" type. So maybe Hiro will step up to the plate.
And that makes me wonder, and this is the longest shot, whether the guy in the hoodie could possibly be Hiro. He would be the last person his father or any of us could expect. I have nothing to base it on. Just wondering...

Raoul,
I have no doubt that Hiro will end up being the "real" Kensei.
I missed the opening credits, is Christopher Eccelson still in the cast list? That will tell us if Claude is involved or not...

Great first blog of Heroes! Gotta love Hiro saying "Great Scott-O"
I wonder if the killer turns out to be Hiro's sister? She was supposed to be the sucessor....
Anyway, sooo glad Heroes is back! Can't wait for Kristen Bell. The only thing better would to have my VMars back!

Wow. It could seriously be Peter. I don't think its Hiro, because the person who went over the balcony with Mr. Nakamuro was able to survive and run away. Peter can do it all.
You guys are good!

I missed a few minutes of the episode guys...
What is Maya's power?
Was the guy trying to hire Suresh part of HRG's old company? Was it all set up by Suresh and HRG for Suresh to infiltrate the company?
Thanks, I am not on the ball today.

First rule about blogging: DON'T SPOIL in the subject line. I wasn't ruined because I watched in real time but many of be cubicle comrades are of the DVR or download nation.
and they read TV GUIDE blogs, shielding their fangirl or fanboy eyes from too much reveal.
This blog, however, kinda tells too much in the hed. Save it for content you access by hitting the link.
I like TV Guide blogs, but I won't spend my time reading it if it's clearly done by novices. There's wiki's to be updated and many of my ilk are got a laptop warming the thighs with one eye on the tube.
My attention is limited. Win me over.
We get the symbol. Seen it from the start. The greater mystery at hand ? Peter's haircut. I use to drink everytime he brushed a lock back behind an ear. What do I do now?

Was I the only one who was kind of bored throughout this episode? New characters trying to get to America to talk with Suresh? Yawn. Molly drawing pictures of her dreams? Double yawn. Nathan being drunk? Triple yawn. Even though Claire is one of my favorite characters I really didn't find her first day of school very interesting at all.
I also found the bad guy who threw Hiro's dad off the cliff rather lame. Another guy in a hood? Didn't they do that last year? I mean, if there's going to be a whole group of bad guys, as Hiro's dad seemed to indicate, why can't they just reveal this guy's face? Not that he seems like a very good villain anyway. I mean, his main attack is running into people so they fall off buildings? Lame. I mean, I know this show doesn't have the budget of a big budget Hollywood picture, but at least Sylar managed to be scary. This new threat so far just seems lame.

It's a blog about the show - recapping the episode. The whole thing is a spoiler. That's the point.
And while the headline only implies something, if you don't want to see spoilers, don't come to the blogs period. Why would you click on the "TV Show Blogs" link if you didn't want to see the blogs? It doesn't make any sense.
I was much more annoyed by the typo in the headline - "hero's" instead of "heroes" - and Wilder coming and being a jerk for no apparent reason when it says right in the blog that it'd be nice to have a respectful discussion.

I really enjoyed this episode and the chance to catch up with old friends, however ...
It seems that TPTB are assuming that everyone watching knows the mythology. If you didn't watch last season you'd have a hard time catching everything that was going on. I think there could have been a better balance of forwarding the story and setting up this cycle and creating a primer for the new viewer that heard about the hype and wants to see what all the fuss was about. Before anyone flames me - yes I know they can buy the DVD and catch up. I just feel that these shows with the thick mythology have to be careful about walking the line between being universally accessible and satisfying the true believers.
Enough on that ... Best bit of the night - Hiro getting wigged out by Kensi not washing his hands after peeing.
Best healthy eating dodge - Well that's why I got you a vegtable pizza! I'll have to remember that line.

popper: I think you're probably right. And in the long run, it's really going to hurt the show. If you hadn't seen last season, there's no way you are going to watch this season. I imagine anyone who wanted to jump on board was so utterly confused after about 15 minutes they just gave up and probably won't return. Those people also won't likely go to the trouble of renting the DVDs from last season (let alone buying them).
Then you're going to end up with a lot of people like Master Moron (his name, not mine), who are easily turned off. I'm not going to lie, my pessimistic side had some of the same thoughts and I knew lots of other people would be more harsh. Not a lot grabbed me in the first episode, but I think it's just because the newness has worn off. I'll certainly keep watching.
