June 18, 2007: “One Contestant Falls Seriously Ill”

Oh, Aaron! As soon as Rock had to help Aaron into his clothes (which I thought was very sweet of Rock, by the way), I knew that he was doomed. Well, that and the fact that the episode was titled “One Contestant Falls Seriously Ill.” There was really no surprise who that “one contestant” would be. Poor Aaron just can’t catch a break. First he had to be helped into his clothes, then he set fire to his station, and lastly, he collapsed in the kitchen. I think at this point, it was best for Aaron to throw in the towel (literally). And even though it was obviously in Aaron’s best interest to go home, it still broke my heart a little to hear Chef Ramsay tell him he would not be returning to Hell’s Kitchen.

Meanwhile, it was a refreshing change to see Hell’s Kitchen open for breakfast. I get sick of seeing the same meals prepared week after week so it was a nice change of pace... or cuisine, rather. The pace really never seems to change! My first thought was that Julia should have this one in the bag. Finally, her Waffle House expertise has become an asset rather than a shortcoming. She was in her element in this particular challenge, and I was happy to see her excel. I’ve liked Julia from the start and I was happy to see Chef Ramsay finally give her some recognition.

Joanna, as I’m sure I’ve said before, really works my last nerve. I can tell Chef Ramsay has been losing what little patience he has with her, and fast. And then she served that rancid crab! Yuck. Then there’s Jen, taking spaghetti out of the trash! The trash. Julia was right to stop Jen, not only for the sake of the diners, but for Jen’s own sake as well. I can’t even imagine what Chef Ramsay would have said had he caught her in the act, although I’m sure it would have involved the words “donkey,” “pig” and countless expletives. Seriously, Jen, the trash? As for the rest of the girls, it made me angry that they all turned against Julia when she was really the only stellar performer of the day. How in the world can you vote someone into elimination over the girl who took food out of the garbage? Please! Good thing Jen spoke up to vote herself in. I have to say, it was a tough call between rancid crab and garbage-spaghetti. But I think Chef Ramsay made the right decision, and I was not unhappy to see Joanna leave Hell’s Kitchen.

As for the boys’ team, Rock seems to be on top of his game. Now that Aaron’s gone, there really isn’t anyone on the boys’ team who I am hoping gets sent home anytime soon. But, in the true spirit of Hell’s Kitchen, I’m sure that will change!

Let me know what you guys think of tonight’s episode and who you’re rooting for thus far!

Oh... I wish I could see this show. I'm overseas right now, and really hate missing it. Does anyone know if Fox is putting it somewhere online?

Personally, Joanna really lost it for me in this episode when they showed her licking the tongs she was using to fix the spaghetti. To me, that's right up there with taking food out of the trash.

Im so happy that Julia kicked but during the breakfast and the dinner. She was the only one out of all the chefs who didnt get yelled at by the Ramsey. Im thinking the only reason why the other ladies wanted her out is because they know she is a much bigger threat then they realized.

Jen is so lucky that Ramsey didnt catch her picking the pasta out of the trash. He would of chewed her out if he saw that. But the trash thing wasnt all that she messed up on....she also over cooked the wellingtons. I wonder why her over cooked wellingtons werent mentioned.

Im also liking Rock. He is so helpful, by helping Aaron put get his uniform on over his pjs, to pulling Vinnie to the side from before Vinnie does something to Ramsey.

And sadly.......Im going to miss Aaron. He cracked me up in a weird way.

I just don't get the deal with Aaron. I mean, he's nearly 50 and he can't handle stress on the job? I don't know any condition that would affect him that way. I know people with serious heart conditions who can get through their daily jobs better. I also don't understand how it takes over an hour to put out appetizers, and 2 hours for a main course. This is my first time watching this show, so is it always like this? I mean, really, how could it take an hour to get out ONE appetizer? I'm glad Joanna's gone, and although Jen did fine last week, "garbage gal" needs to go next. Sheesh.

I agree with Darclyte. I don't care how likable Aaron may be, there's more wrong with him than being physically sick. He's made my stomach churn from the first week!! I don't wish ill for him, I'm just glad he won't be back.

Joanna going was for sure the correct choice. Rancid crab and overcooking the Wellington, and I hadn't seen anything talented from her at all.

I felt it was a little suspicious that the camera was right on Jen's face as she fessed up to putting the spaghetti in the trash and said she was the candidate to go home. How would the cameraperson know she was going to be saying anything at all. I'll bet she said it and then they reshot that scene to be able to catch her. That's my little nitpick, I guess. Seemed scripted at that point.

As for the guys. I only like Rock, so there's no competition there, in my opinion. What a bunch of doofuses.

shemachinist-Fox does have some video clips from Hell's Kitchen on their website. They may have the whole episode but my work computer won't bring up that section of the website.

Happy to see Aaron leave because I was seriously concerned for his health. As a retirement home chef, I'm sure there is little or no pressure like what he has faced in Hell's Kitchen.

So happy to see Julia shine tonight. I'm a big fan of the underdog in these reality shows and she has certainly proved that she belongs there. I do have to wonder why they did a breakfast challenge for the first time and if it was done to give some of these chefs a break from the challenging dinner challenges and to show weaknesses in those (Melissa, Jen and Joanna!) that think breakfast cooks are beneath them.

As much as the men keep screwing up the meal service, they have not done that bad in the challenges considering they are usually a man down. They were only one fish behind last week without Aaron's help and as far as we know, managed to get all the potatoes and onions done without him. They do need to a)learn to work as a team, b) find a leader and c) be honest when they make mistakes and stop trying to cover them up.

I really hope Rock gets the chance to lead the men's team. I think he could be the best of the men's team right now. I think he was smart though not to fight for the position of leader last night and let the weaknesses of Brad show through.

I am really glad to see that Aaron will be getting some medical help. Obviously he has had some problems from the begining.
Julia is my favorite and I am so glad that she had her chance to shine last night. She does not give up and puts everything she has into her performance. She knows she is the underdog but she is willing to try and keeps educating herself so she can get better.
Joanna definately needed to go because she has messed up every week, but the crab last night was the worst. I will say that I am glad she called out Melissa and the others for their reasoning to put up Julia. Melissa is an idiot and I think I dislike her the most!!!
Rock is the best and I hope he goes all the way. He will shine no matter what the others do and Chef will see how good his skills are.

I'm rooting for Julia for sure. Those snobby witches, nominating her after she literally saved their bacon at breakfast. The men? Feh. Not one of them is even pretty, much less competent.

Oh, and how convenient was it that Barbie, I mean Bonnie, was in the shower when they got the wakey wakey? C'mon, producers, we see RIGHT through that.

I'm pulling for Julia - she seems to be the only genuine nice person, and even though she isn't as experienced, she works her butt off to learn. I'm hoping "garbage" gal goes next. Taking food out of the garbage? *shudders* I'm surprised GR didn't take her head off.

Decker-I am so glad you reminded me of Joanna licking the tongs!
I knew my stomach had turned a couple of time during last night's episode and my mind was so fixated on Jen's spaghetti "recovery" that I comepletely forgot about the tong licking. And how can you not smell rancid crab!!!
I am a Catering Manager and have worked with several chefs over the years and am lucky enough to have worked with some of the best and this behavior would never ever be tolerated in their kitchens.
I think if Joanna or Jen were to ever open their own restaurants-anyone who watched this show would have that in the back of their minds and would never eat there!
Yes, chefs are supposed to taste their food but with a separate spoon which is used only once. And you never ever take anything out of the garbage. Did I mention rancid crab!!! Blows my mind!
Does anyone know Aaron's exact condition?

Thank you Decker! I was grossed out when Joanna licked the tongs! I wouldn't say it was worse or equal to the taking food out of the trash, but it was close.

I'm glad Aaron is gone (for us and for him). In the first episode his inability to do his job, I chalked up to being nervous. By this episode I just grew tired of him. I know a lot of people liked him, but he was just too whimpy to be on this show. (No disrespect to Aaron, it's my personal, honest observation).

I'm rooting for Julia and Rock so far. Julia is the only girl in the kitchen who has great leadership skills (not only did she get the women's side running well, she ended up getting the guys side to run well as well). Rock is the only guy that's showing any sort of leadership and ability to run a restaurant. Also, good move on his part to pull Vinnie away from Chef Ramsay.

Am I the only who was hoping that Chef Ramsey would beat the living snot out of Vinnie. It's all right to be arrogant if you can back it up, but so far I haven't seen any reason why Vinnie thinks he's as good as he, apparently, does. I can't wait for the episode when Vinnie is eliminated, you can bet that his comment to Eddie will seem mild compared to what he says (or does) to Vinnie.
As for the women, Melissa really gets on my nerves, she sounds like a reject from the Sopranos. And Joanna, well she suffers from the same problem as Vinnie, thinking she's hot stuff when she's not. I am really hoping that it comes down to Julia and Rock. They are the only ones who don't whine or complain constantly, and neither backstabs their teammates. They just keep plugging away and don't give up.
Last night's bonus : Julia totally rocked the breakfast service!!!!!

shemachinist--Even if the show is online you probably cannot watch it. Usually (and I think it's stupid) the shows put online can only be viewed by people in the United States. Not even Canadians can watch them. It's a stupid rule but unfortunately it exists anyway...

Not only was there taking food out of the garbage, licking the tongs, and using rancid crab, there was using your hands to fold over the omlettes. I have NEVER seen that done before.
