June 11, 2007: A Food-preparation Challenge
First off, I wrote a lot of things about Aaron that I just deleted because I felt awful that he appears to be suffering some sort of stress-related medical condition in addition to constant harassment from Chef Ramsay. I will, however, say that his running around introducing himself to the diners was truly idiotic. If there’s anything we know irritates Chef Ramsay, it’s doing absolutely anything that isn’t a direct order. Add to the mess the fact that Aaron’s deboning the fish table-side took 15 minutes, and I feel a little less awful. With sweat pouring down his face, nonetheless. That has got to be some sort of health hazard! However, at the same time I keep seeing flashes of that ambulance from the Season 3 preview and Chef Ramsay screaming “don’t die on me,” and I have a terrible feeling that might be Aaron-related. So I’ll be nice…for now.
It was nice seeing the girls' team come together this week after being dubbed “Hell’s Bitches” last week. Melissa, Joanna and Waffle House Julia certainly proved their worth on the fish challenge. And when the boys got kicked out of the kitchen and the girls still managed to keep their cool, it was no surprise the boys would be losing a team member this week. But there’s one girl I can’t let off the hook just yet. Why, why, why did Bonnie strut around in her underwear in the living quarters? Not exactly a good first impression.
As for the boys, when eliminations came down to Eddie and Josh, I was shocked that Aaron wasn’t on the chopping block. I know Eddie and Josh made their fair share of mistakes, but Aaron has virtually messed up everything he’s been asked to do since entering Hell’s Kitchen. I always feel boys tend to be fairer in eliminations because they seem less likely to factor friendships, alliances and emotions into their decisions, but I can’t think of one reason why Aaron is still around. Maybe he’s being kept around for entertainment’s sake? I guess we’ll see!
One last thing to note: Beef Wellington, spaghetti and risotto are Hell’s Kitchen staples. Every season the chefs prepare these and every season someone seems to get it wrong. You’d think if you were going to sign up for the show, you’d do some prep work and master those three dishes! I know cooking even the most simple of meals is a struggle with Chef Ramsay breathing down your neck, being called a “donkey,” and having to compete with all of those type-A personalities, but seriously. Should spaghetti even be included in a challenge? How can these people not cook spaghetti? Diver scallops I get. Dover sole, fine. But spaghetti? Really?!
All in all a great second episode. Let me know what you guys think of the season so far!

I definitely think Aaron should be gone. After all...what is his contribution?? I'm sick of seeing a 48-year old blubbering mess who is admittedly sick. This guy needs to go home for his own sanity and well-being, much less the diners and the viewers!
And while I really love this show and know that Chef Ramsey is obnoxious. I was appalled at his treatment of Eddie. To me it was like picking on someone because of their race. To his face and behind his back he couldn't let it go that Eddie is little. That, of all the wild things that Chef does, was disturbing.

I too was floored that Aaron didn't get nominated. All he has done is cry, nap or sweat over everything. The guy just isn't cut out for this. Not sure why he even signed up. He's like Joy from Pirate Master. Both don't belong.
Agree Pinkie about Ramsey's treatment of Eddie. How many times in the ep did he mention his size? Over and over again. I don't think he should have been eliminated. Still shocked that Aaron is still here.
Not sure if I would want to eat at Hell's Kitchen. You sometimes have to wait 2-3 hours for food. Other times you don't get fed at all. Then you have Aaron sweating on your food and hearing Ramsey curse and throw things. I guess some people just want to be on TV.

If I had to guess as to why Aaron is still around, I'd say that it's because everyone *knows* he has no chance whatsoever of winning, so why bother nominating him? Nominating any other two contestants guarantees that you'll get rid of *someone* who has at least some chance of winning, increasing your own chances a bit.
What I find sad, though, is that Aaron just looks so foolish up there with his poor health, sweating, whatever that thing was with him just staring off into space (I know on some medical-oriented shows, I've seen that kind of a staring-off referred to as a mild form of a seizure, but as I'm not medically knowledgeable, I can't say that's what it was.) And what was up with him not eating? I can't imagine he's not aware that suddenly starving yourself isn't going to make you lose weight faster - in fact, it's more likely to make you lose weight SLOWER because it slows your metabolism, and it's going to just make you weaker and make it harder for you to focus and concentrate.
Anyway, I'm enjoying this season, and it was great to not only see the women starting to work well together, but to see our Waffle House girl get up there and kick butt with her dover sole prep!
Next week looks interesting - I'm really curious to find out what happens....

This is the first time I've seen this series. I also just started watching Next Food Network Star, and will watch Top Chef tonight. I guess I'm in a food/reality kick. Anyway, I don't think Chef Gordo has been as hard on the Asian Cowboy as he was on Eddie. Aaron keeps crying, passing out, quitting, whatever, and I'm surprised the Chef hasn't told him to just go. He has contributed nothing. I don't know if it's medical or that he just can't handle this show, but Aaron has been a complete disaster. I feel bad for him as he'll regret this for the rest of his life. It's one thing to try and fail, quite another to just collapse. I also agree that Gordo's treatment of Eddie was appalling. When the Chef eliminated him, as Eddie walked past him Gordo said , "F*** Off!" Was that really necessary? I know the Chef is a tyrant in the kitchen, and maybe he should be, but I was surprised to see how nice he was when he announced the boat reward, and how great he seemed while on the boat. So, if he can act like that, then he could at least not told Eddie to "F- Off" right after cutting him loose. Anyway, I don't really care who wins at the moment, I'm just getting up to speed on this show, but I do find it very entertaining so far.

I agree with thorswitch.... everyone *knows* he has no chance whatsoever of winning, so why bother nominating him? and he also makes really good tv. Plus Im getting sick of him. When he was introducing himself to everyone at the tables, I wanted to smack him. And I dont know what you called him little episode he had. I don't think the ambulance will be for him or any other of the chefs. Im thinking the ambulance is for one of the patrons.
I also felt sorry for Eddie. Ramsey shouldnt talk to people like that. If Ramsey keeps bad mouthing people by the way they look, someone will bad mouth him right back.
Im also glad that the ladies got it together tonight. And my girl Julia the wafflehouse girl kicked butt in the challenge. And I agree with you Charla that Bonnie had no business running around in her underwear like that. What is going through her head?
One more thing....I always wanted to know if those patrons get to eat free during the show(well the ones that get to eat)or do they still have to pay?

I LOVE this show, but I have to admit - I was a little disappointed in this ep due to the constant previews this week of "The...MOST...SHOCKING...HELL'S...KITCHEN...EVER!!!" What exactly was shocking? Aaron naps? Aaron sweats? Aaron cries? What happened to the "Chef needs to know what he's in for tonight...", what looked like the huge blazing fire in the kitchen, the "Don't die on me!" quote, etc.? If you're gonna show previews and bill them as being for the next episode, don't show clips from all season long!

As a new viewer, I was doing some reading on this show when I came across this notice about the woman who finished second last season: http://tinyurl.com/28mvv4

Someone posted on another blog that the patrons of Hell's Kitchen not only get their food free, but they get paid $50 for participating. That and they get to be on TV.

Oh, God! That's terrible news about Rachel! The fact, though, that they didn't mention what her cause of death was leads me to think that it might have been suicide.

I agree Klubbers, why show previews for "next week" when it is for another episode? But if next week's previews are really for next week, it seems like it's not Aaron who has the medical emergency (although I did see a clip of him falling/fainting). They made it look like someone adds something to a customer's food that causes an allergic reaction. But am I the only one who heard "you just killed somebody" (or something like that) coming from Chef Ramsay?
I had never watched this show before this season, but I think I'm hooked. The girls really were "Hell's Bitches" last week, but sure kicked butt this week.

It seems to me that the patrons are wannabe actors. Whenever they get on camera, they ham it up. I never feel sorry for them when they don't get what they came for.
Aaron is pitiful and I'm tired of looking at him. Rock probably didn't nominate him for the reasons stated above, but also because he'll probably quit anyway.
Bonnie is already a blonde, now she's a Bimbo, too. Prancing around in her undies, bending over for the guys. What a dope.
I feel sorry for Eddie, but he can't expect special treatment for being small. Chef Ramsay will rip into anyone for anything, and he does it for the ratings. Half of the show is about him humiliating people.
Julia and the girls really did great this time, and maybe now they've learned what teamwork really is.
I also watch Top Chef, and I just started watching The Next Food Network Star. I don't know why I like these cooking/reality shows. I HATE to cook, I don't want to eat the fancy shmancy food they make, because most of it looks/sounds gross to me. I guess I just like the competition aspect of it.

First of all, I'm sure Eddie is use to people calling him small. Chef R. did not call him "shrimp" or "elf" or anything negative. He just said he was "small" which is the truth. He called that woman chef a "dumb blonde". Is she dumb 'cause she's a blonde? I've heard no outcry about that. Also, we don't know what Eddie might have said that would have been edited out. Why would Chef Ramsey say "F*** off" for no reason. There's more to the story. 2nd, I don't what Baby Huey's problems are, but he is not entertaining, borderlines on gross and really should go unless he suddenly has a revelation and turn hisself around. I doubt it though. Great blog Carla.

That is too bad about Rachel. I just wanted to mention that she didn't finish in 2nd, Virginia did. Rachel didn't make it halfway.
Yes, Aaron has been terrible thus far and doesn't deserve to be there. Even though Chef Ramsay selects someone to nominate 2 people, if he doesn't agree with his/her selections he can over rule them and nominate someone else (I know it has happened at least once in the past). So you can't just nominate the 2 people who you feel are your greatest competition, you have to nominate at least 1 person that deserves to go home.

We don't see everything that happens and there must be HOURS of footage. It seems GR and Eddie probably had issues with each other that we didn't see. I do wish Aaron had gone as he makes me a nervous wreck. I keep expecting him to fall over with a heart attack at any moment. First two episodes have been fun (well, for the audience anyway). Its one of my summer guilty pleasures!
