Loose Ends
Hi, everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying some time off this week...
ABC treated us to a brand new episode of Grey's Anatomy last night and I still need to catch up on the latest drama at Seattle Grace. So, feel free to post your thoughts here and I'll be sure to write up a full recap soon.
Episode Recap: Crash Into You (Part One)
Sorry for the delay, everyone! I wish I could have watched this episode sooner, but better late than never. So, let's get to recapping... Watching Cristina "dance it out" at the start of this episode was priceless! Mer, on the other hand, probably won't be joining the cast of Dancing With the Stars anytime soon. It was almost like watching Elaine dance on Seinfeld, but I guess that's beside the point. In between her moves, I was glad to hear Mer finally say that she didn't want Derek seeing other people. Unfortunately, when the moment came for her to tell him, she chickened out and walked away. Oh, well. Judging from the previews, it looks like next week she'll finally work up enough nerve to let him know. I'm also starting to feel really bad for Izzie, who every week looks more and more like a third wheel around Cristina and Meredith. It's obvious that the latter two have a special bond, but it seems like Izzie could really use her girlfriends right now and neither of them seem to be there for her. I know, Izzie broke up a marriage, but it wasn't entirely her fault! I guess I'd just like to see Mer and Cristina rally around her, even for just a little bit. Then there's Bailey, who had a really rough day, but she managed to remain calm, cool and collected through it all. In fact, somewhere between her husband repeatedly telling her "you're never here," to the racist paramedic insisting on having a white doctor work on him instead, I was fully ready to see Bailey lash out. She never did though. Instead, she chose to "rise above it all." In retrospect, Bailey had a lot of poignant moments in this episode and one of my favorites (as another poster already mentioned), occurred in the OR between her and George, when she told him, "Don't interrupt me when I'm calling on Jesus. I don't do it very often and I'm afraid He might not hear me." I'll be curious to find out next week how that surgery ends up and what becomes of Mr. Bailey when he realizes his wife won't be coming to lunch. The ambulance crash took me by surprise and was tough to stomach. It was hard watching Stan (Theo Rossi) realize that he was never going to survive that crash and it was harder yet, watching his wife, Sara (Shanelle Workman), say her last goodbyes. Part of me kept thinking, if they could only free him from the tangled mash of metal quickly enough, maybe they could save him from bleeding out. Then when Stan noticed that his fellow EMT, Ray, had an oxygen regulator embedded in his side, I started to wonder if anyone was going to survive this accident. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait an extra week to find out what the future holds for three out of the four paramedics involved in that crash.
For Nick (Seth Green), the future also looks bleak, which makes me even more sad because I really liked the relationship he had going with Lexie. I knew it was just a matter of time before his artery would burst, but I felt like it was a bit overdone when it actually happened. Nonetheless, I’m still hopeful that he'll manage to survive and that he'll be able to make Lexie forget about Alex.
Speaking of "the jerk," was it just me, or did it seem like he wasn't all that into Rebecca when she showed up again? I know he was in a hurry because he was heading into surgery, but it seemed like he was about to brush her off, shortly before he caved into her request to observe him in action. I wonder if that might mean his feelings for Lexie are now stronger than the ones he had for Rebecca. I suppose only time will tell.
In other relationship news, Derek and Rose are still playfully getting to know each other. I liked how he asked her if they were friends yet, only to follow that up by saying a friend would let her know that she had licorice stuck in her teeth, while an acquaintance would simply "smile and pretend it wasn't there."
Another highlight for me was watching Mark try to impress Dr. Hahn with his sensitive side, only to hear her tell him, "I’m not looking for a window into your wounded soul." Mark, give it up already; she's just not that into you!
Overall, this was a great episode with a lot of intense moments. I can't wait to see what happens in the follow-up, two weeks from now. In the mean time, we could debate about who will survive next week and who will not...and how lives will be changed from the outcome.

I cannot wait for next weeks to-be-continued episode to find out what happens! The 2 ambulance drivers that were stuck was so sad... Poor Stan. He is a hero! It is too bad they couldn't save him and it was heart wrenching when they were singing that song together. I was overjoyed with Bailey and Christina last night. I have never seen Bailey call on the Lord before (i missed most of season 1, so not sure if she has ever done it before) and I knew how upset and pissed off she was to do that! (I was livid over it). I thought in the beginning the paramedic was remorseful of the tattoo but no. Christina straightened that up pretty quickly. I am surprised though that there weren't more comments from her after the guy told her that she had to treat him just the same as every other patient! Sloan was hilarious tonight, everything that came out of his mouth was great, especially when Hhan(sp) kept shooting him down. Karev is in trouble!! Be interesting to see how Lexie plays that one out. I knew that Nick would spray out on Lexie, just knew it. I figured it would have happened when the ex came to visit. It was so gross to realize how close to the surface his vein was. Great episode, I look forward to your write up Erin!!

I also thought the episode was pretty darn good (surprise, surprise.) They downplayed some of the more annoying aspects of some of the characters and focused a bit less on the relationships, which have the tendency to polarize the fans.
My only complaint...Ava. Please stop having her as a guest star. Who asks if they can sit in on a surgery if it could potentially damage the career of a supposed loved one?
Loved Seth Green as a guest star. I love his dry sense of humor. I think anyone could see the moment his artery burst coming from a million miles away, but I still really liked the storyline.
I am looking forward to part 2, but am disappointed it is two weeks off. I wish they had played the two parter on consecutive Thursdays.

I really liked this episode two, one of the best of the season.
Sadly, we'll have to wait TWO WEEKS before we see the conclusion. The next all new episode airs Dec 6!

I really enjoyed the epi, right up until the very end. Then I had to sit there for a minute and figure out if I just saw what I thought I saw. Wow.... reminds me of the old days when the bomb guy got blown up. GREAT episode!

When this first started and I heard it was going to be a two-parter, I thought "oh, no, just like that disastrous multi-episode ferry crash story", but hallelujah, it wasn't!! This was pretty darn good and way over-due.
I too can't stand the character of Ava. There's nothing in the slightest appealing about her or the actress! Though, admittedly, I don't recall ever seeing the actress in anything else before now.
Now, I'm the biggest anti-Meredith person I know, but last night she was tolerable. The only time I wanted to hit her was when she and the chief were standing outside the ambulance and she was trying to make the story seem all about POOR MEREDITH and how she wasn't sure she could stand it and the chief comforting HER. Give me a break. I don't remember the rest of that little spectacle, but I remember I didn't like it at all. What a drama queen. The rest of the night, I actually didn't mind her.
Bravo to finally giving us a story we could get into again.

I really enjoyed the Mer/Der scene. I sincerely hope they get together forever soon and Rose takes a hike forever.

The actress who plays Ava was in the TNT summer series Saved which aired last summer.
I liked this episode very much. As a history major I know all to well about the history of hate in the world and was proud that Baily and Christina were able to rise above and operate on the guy. I really enjoyed the symbolism of the scapula cutting through the swastika.
You just new that Seth's artery was going to blow while Lexi was in the room. I have to wonder how she will handle it. Will she be able to save him? If she doesn't, what impact will it have on her career. I can't want to see the second part of this.

Wow. Just wow. I was on the edge of my seat the whole episode. That hasn't happened in a while.
I also thought Meredith was making it "all about her"...regretable.
And Ava asking to sit in the gallery & being all whiny that Karev couldn't spend time with her?? Pathetic.
Bailey was wonderful, as usual.

Okay first things first......Ava needs to go....Am I mistaken or has this woman forgetten she has a husband and a child? Yet she just keeps showing up at Seattle Grace. I am sorry but has Alex even spoken to her after their previous tryst/booty call in the on call room? And how selfish is she that she still wanted to see him assist on a surgery even though it will get him kicked out of his profession.....
Another pet peeve...Izzy is really getting on my nerves...Rather than joining in and dancing out her MANY frustrations she complains that Meredith and Christina are "having a love affair." Even George said it was too early for her ranting.
I understand wanting to excel but dang let Christina have Cardio...Christina is objective and disconnected enough to be a heart surgeon, Izzy gets TOO connected to every person she operates on.
Last thought.....Mark just doesn't know what to do with myself because Hahn doesn't want him....It is refreshing to see another woman with TITANIUM backbone in the hospital.....BAILEY WILL FOREVER BE MY sHERO.
Best line of the epi: Bailey: From here on out no one calls me the NAZI....

What is Hahn's problem? I can see not buying Mark's line but she's just flat out mean! And to everyone! I think we're going to find out that this woman has serious issues.

i too am on the "i cant stand" ava bandwagon...i liked her last season but now she's just plain annoying. Who just shows up at people's jobs surprisingly and then gets upset when that person cant just stop what they're doing and focus on them 100%? What does she want from Alex? If you really wanna spend time w/ him, plan to go out on a real date for a nite *GASP* There's an idea ava...stop creepin around the hospital. I also found it a bit odd that she could just "sneak" into the gallery surrounded by some of the very people who helped her during her long stay in the hosp. and nobody notices her? W/E...
Other than that i thought this was a good epi, i loved that bailey was able to be a better person than the paramedic nazi and how she cleverly had yang help.
WOW--lexie looked frozen as that blood squirt all over her, lets hope she can help save seth green's character, i wanna hear more of his dry humor next week

Why would Alex be in trouble? And why the heck is Lexie all pissed off and pouty after finding out about Ava? From the very beginning, Alex told her that he's kind of hung up on somebody else right now and that he's just good for sex. If after that can't-get-any-more-upfront warning Lexie gets all bent, that's her problem.
Hahn definitely has a chip on her shoulder when it comes to pretty guys, doesn't she? But gotta admit, I cracked up when she refered to Derek and Mark as Pretty & Prettier, and I am rather enjoying her naked contempt of Mark.
I can't say I enjoyed the Aryan Supremacist storyline. First, they present the character as a good guy. Immediately after the accident, he's far more concerned with the well-being of the other paramedics than his own. He mentions something about "doing things when you're young," as if to indicate some regret about the swastika. But then Bailey and Yang go into self-righteous and self-congratulatory Liberal Supremacy while the (former?) Nazi is also reduced to a cardboard character. As much as liberals self-congratulate themselves for their infinite layers of nuance, the leftist GA writers copped out Big Time with this storyline.
