It's Good to Be Scared

Episode Recap: Crash Into Me (Part Two) December 6, 2007

What a night! Mer finally tells Derek that she doesn't want him to date other people and he goes and locks lips with Rose at the hospital! Shonda couldn't have planned that cliffhanger any better herself, because tonight's episode marks the last new episode available this month. All I can say is, I really hope that Derek doesn't choose Rose over Meredith. It's true, Mer was slow to open up to him, but how can he walk away from her now? Especially after she told him, "I don't want to lose you."

My heart really goes out to Bailey, too. Tonight, she put her troubled marriage on the line to operate on Shane (Gale Harold), a white supremacist. Though it didn't really surprise me that Shane was more concerned about his "ruined" tattoo than he was about how Bailey had saved his life. For me, it was almost harder to watch Tucker (Cress Williams), disregard the importance of Bailey's job and then suggest to George that their marriage was over now. I know it must be hard to be the spouse of a doctor, what with the crazy hours they keep, but they're saving lives! And Bailey works so hard. I just wish her husband could have been more empathetic.

I was also sad to see Nick (Seth Green) expire tonight. I really thought he and Lexie made a good pair and a romantic relationship between the two could have made for an interesting arc. Nick's sense of humor brought some fun to the show, too. Even as he continued to lose volumes of blood, he was able to joke that Lexie looked like "Carrie at the prom," since she was wearing half his blood. The only good thing to come out of that scenario was the pep talk Cristina gave to Lexie at the end of the night, which somehow resulted in Cristina bringing Lexie back to Mer's house for a dance party. Okay, one other thing made me happy here. I was glad that Meredith invited Izzie to join in on the dancing.

Speaking of Izzie, do we agree with George that the problem with their relationship wasn't due to a lack of chemistry? Hmmm. I'd say they have good friendship chemistry, but I don't really see these two getting together again some time down the road. I don't think the failed romance was bad timing, as George suggested. I think it just wasn’t meant to be.

Another highlight for me tonight was hearing Dr. Hahn tell Sloan, "If you were homely, you would have lost your job a long time ago." She's so mean and yet, I find myself liking her character a little more each week.

I don't even know where to begin regarding the Alex/Rebecca scenario. After all of the things he said to her tonight, including the confession he made that he was also intimately involved with Lexie, I expected her to walk out on him. The look on her face indicated that she was clearly shocked and offended. Yet, she stayed and the make-out session continued. I can't wait to see where this tryst ends up. I have a feeling Rebecca's husband might show up one of these days and offer to give Alex a bloody nose.

Last, but not least, my favorite lines of the night came from the Chief: "It's good to be scared. It means you still have something to lose."

While we ponder those words, there will be plenty of time to ponder the fate of our favorite docs over the next few weeks, as we wait for a new episode to evolve. Feel free to post your thoughts here and hopefully, we'll be meeting again soon!

My very favorite scene was George telling the white supremacist that he thought the world would be better off if he was dead. Loved it. Unusual for George. I found myself liking him much more tonight than I ever have.

There were lots of great moments. Lexie was great, as were all the different surgeries going awry. It was busy and fast moving and had less of a soapy aspect to it.

Bad moments were anything with Meredith. Just my opinion, folks. I don't like her. Also, anytime Rebecca shows up, I want to upchuck! Loved Alex yelling at her..hated that he still wanted her afterwards. Ewwww.

I agree with you Pinkie that was also one of my favortie scenes of tonights episode.

But my all time favorite scene was with Bailey. She blew me away with her speech about keeping her vows to her job. And if he gets hurt another doctor might not be committed to his/her vows as she is. Loved it.

Derek + Rose = 0. ICK. ICK. VOMIT.
Makes me want to throw up. I cannot stand Rose.
I hope Meredith & Derek get together finally FOREVER.

Bailey's speech was great, though it would have been more effective if she'd been able to find the time to deliver it to her husband in person. We all side with her and love her, because she is who we know, but I'm not unsympathetic to him whatsoever. That would be a tough row to hoe. She needs to take some precious time off and fix her marriage......and hey, the writer's strike works out for her just right in this case!!

I actually feel for Bailey's husband. She is home for maybe 30 minutes every day. Can you imagine if your spouse did that? Yeah, she's saving a life. But there will always be doctors around to save lives. If she really cared about having a family, maybe she should think about going into private practice. I love Bailey, but her priorities ARE screwed up here.

Bailey's choices concerning her job are limited because she is still a resident. She cannot go into private practice until she is finished with her residency. Even then, she is a surgeon. She may not always get a chance to choose when to do the surgeries, depending on what type of surgeon she is. People do not always get sick or need emergency surgeries at convenient times.

This was a great episode and a great cliffhanger. I was so happy to see George and Izzie do the friend thing again, they do have chemistry just like a brother and sister. And maybe it's that we all know he is gay, so we just don't buy it, I don't know...but they don't work romantically.

Alex has got issues, big time. He has no respect for women and the fact that Ava stayed and put up with it was degrading in my eyes. But he hit it on the head, she is not coming all the way down there to him to talk, no way.

I loved, loved, loved it when Derek kissed the nurse. THEY have great chemistry and I would love to see him moving on. I mean who in the real world would play games for as long as Mer/Der has when he knows that he wants to be committed? Not many and I don't think it's true to the character of Derek to portray him as doing so. I hope he tells Meredith off and moves on for good. We need some new love interests for Christina and Meredith anyway. Bring in some more men for them!

For someone who no one noticed before, Rose sure is around a lot...

This character just isn't sitting well with me. Maybe it's the fact that suddenly *BAM* she's there all of the time. Maybe it's the fact that I like Meredith and Derek together (and here we go again...Derek leaves Meredith). Or Maybe it's the fact that I don't like the color of her scrubs.

Meredith and Derek have a lot of problems they need to work out...why put a third person into the mix? The writers have already done that...remember Addison?

I guess we are getting Ross and Rachel: the Hospital Years.

As for Ava/Rebecca, Alex is right. She's playing dress up. People chastise Gizzie for adultery...same situation with Rebecca/Alex except there's a baby involved.

OK folks - no way am I on board w/this Rose thing. I agree that all of a sudden, she's like everywhere. And pardon me for saying so, but the kiss she shared w/Derek seemed very awkward - almost like she had never kissed anyone before and didn't know what to do.
I was glad to see Mer warming up to Lexie a little bit last night, but Lexie was still just a bit too eager. In fact, the whole scene made me feel like they were kids and Lexie was finally able to play with big sis Mer and her Barbies. Huh - good writing!
And I have to disagree and submit my own best quote for the night: Mer turns to Dr. Hahn, who was just loudly stating to Izzie that the paramedic was going to die (and showing how big an *butt* she is), and says "Dr. Hahn, shut up."
Seriously (or is it Really?), does every medical show have to have a Dr. Benton?

who would believe that a prominent surgeon like Derek would get involved with a nurse? he would probably have sex with her, but date her? NO! Also she is just to ditzy. If she is going to be a surgical nurse she needs to but her nerves aside. She was acting like it was her first day at work.

I think Erin said this was the last new ep this month. From now on it's Attack of the Lame Holiday Specials (with "Frosty" tonight, all my favs will have already aired) But I think there are more eps in the can though, right? I'm not good at math and this strike is making my head hurt.

Now, back to Grey's...

Loved some of the lighter moments - Hahn, Torres and Sloan in the lounge. George punctuating Bailey's marriage speech with "can I just do some charts?" And obviously one of Yang's interns answering "2" when Derek asked him his name - THAT was priceless.

Could have sworn I read that Seth Green was going to be part of a story arc and possible love interest for Christina. Oh well. The initial artery burst was unintentionally funny for me as it brought back memories of Os transformaing into a werewolf on Buffy.

Now for Derek:
I love you Meredith. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Excuse me, this nurse just helped me save a life. I must kiss her now. I'm sorry Meredith, but alas, I have already fallen in love with someone else after knowing her for about 10 minutes.

I vote we change the name from McDreamy to Beef Jerky. But damn that man is gorgeous.

Bailey and Tucker. I work in a family law firm, and I can't tell you how many times I've dealt with unhappy people over how much time their intern/resident spouse spends away from them. While this might not be Tucker's situation, so many people think they've caught the brass ring when they land a doctor but they're not willing to put up with the hard times before it all comes together. Sorry, they knew what they were getting into when they got married, and if they can't handle it, it's their problem, not the resident's.

Shades of Grey. Loved Chief's comments to Meredith about how calm she was in such a high-pressure situation. Just thinking - her mother's personal life was an absolute mess (affairs, lack of parenting skills), but she was a genius as as surgeon. I guess in some ways the apple doesn't fall that far from the tree?

My favorite scenes:
1-Christina telling Bailey that she resented all that she had done to her that day: using her b/c of her skin color and compromising her education.
2-George telling the white supremacist that had they been alone in the surgery room, he (i.e. the patient) would've died. I clapped when George told him that the world would be better off if he was dead. You go, George!!

I had no sympathy for Bailey's husband.

Come on, as much as we'd like to think we're all so enlightened and evolved, we as a society still believe that a stay-at-home dad is somehow less of a man. Tucker is upset because his wife is more accomplished and successful than he is. Even if Bailey worked a straight 40-hour week, their marriage would still be in trouble. The only way to fix things is for Tucker to take a good, long look at himself and come to terms with his bruised ego.

I hated the white supremacist storyline. More self-congratulatory smugness from Hollywood liberals ... gee, never seen that before. Does uberleftist Hollywood ever make even the most minute effort to get over themselves? Wait, who am I kidding?

The way Derek looked at Rose, any woman would instantly fall in love with him. Does Derek pull back after Meredith's request, or does Rose become a stalker?? (not that I'd blame her)

I absolutely love Alex, more and more with every episode. His scorching honesty and his fearless in facing issues most people would all too gladly bury are qualities that just make me shake my head and smile. The guy's kinda my idol.

If Gizzie is over and done with, what's up on the romantic front for those two? I'm totally digging Hahn, even if she is a wee bit abrasive. Finally, it was very sweet of Cristina to bring Lexie home.
