Forgive and Forget

There's no place like home. Camille Winbush by Ron Tom/ABC
Episode Recap: "The Heart of the Matter"

"I forgive you." Did I hear that right? Callie, calmly telling George that he made a mistake by sleeping with Izzie, but that she was willing to forgive him because of their wedding vows? Thank god she changed her mind by the end of the episode, because I'm not sure I could have forgiven Callie for letting Gizzie off the hook so easily! Not after everything we've been through in this whole messy love triangle! Though something tells me we won't have anything resembling closure here for quite some time.

And while I secretly knew that Callie wasn't really planning on a lunchtime brawl, it was fun watching Izzie prepare for the possibility of one. I think it was the trash-talking that I enjoyed the most, especially when Izzie quipped, "I'm just saying, I learned to fight in a trailer park. Where'd Callie learn to fight? Boarding school?" Oh, Izzie, I may not like the idea of you and George being together, but I do admire your passion to fight for him.

Things weren't going much better for the Chief tonight, either. Adele finally reappeared, but not under the best of circumstances. Unfortunately, their niece, Camille (Camille Winbush), had a cancer relapse — and rather than seek treatment, all the young girl wanted to do was go home and enjoy what little time she had left with her friends and family. After hearing Camille describe the painful side effects of previous treatments, it wasn't hard to understand where she was coming from. Adele, on the other hand, didn't feel there was an option in this situation — she only wanted her niece to live. And so, it was up to Richard to convince Camille to change her mind and continue her fight against the disease. His approach was tender: "I know for a fact the world, my world, is a better place with you in it." But when Camille asked him to listen to her not as a doctor, but as her loving uncle, it was plain to see that he understood the best thing he could do for her now was to let her go. Needless to say, Adele was not pleased, and things just got a little rockier between her and the Chief.

Tonight was also a rough night for the interns. First, there was Norman telling the wrong patient they were going to die, and then there was Lexie, who got the shaft from Cristina every time the opportunity presented itself. Derek did manage to swoop in and defend Lexie more than a few times by calling Cristina out and putting her in her place. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I would say that Lexie and Derek would make a good couple. But I'm going to immediately deny saying that, because I was so moved by what Derek said to Meredith tonight when he canceled their weekend plans together: "I want to marry you. I want to have kids with you...I don't want 48 hours, I want a lifetime." That just made me melt. Especially when he told her he was willing to wait for her. Or, at least until someone else came along. Yikes.

And while Callie almost managed to lose her job tonight by yelling at a patient's boyfriend, you know it probably did her some good to get all of that anger out that she had been bottling up for so long. I only hope things improve for her soon, both on the home front and at work, because she sure has had a lot to deal with lately.

I can't believe Callie called Izzie the traitor. Leave it to a woman to blame the other woman instad of the bastard husband. She forgives George and hates Izzie. Classic. Understandably she's pissed and dislikes her now but why is it the spouse doesn't get the blame ? George is the one who vowed to be faithful. He's the traitorous bitch.

Loved how Karev summed it up " I am embarrased for you" or something like that....She obvs had no memory of any romance in their past, it was that good. Poor Callie, that scene where she lost it with the smoking BF was about to get REALLY good. She was working up to an emmy moment, but it was just a tad short. She made good points, however inappropriate. ( and have none of them put it together about Gizzie ? the "fight", the running around frantically looking for eachother , every single episode ?)
Derek, though I love him so very much, creeped me out a bit with the whole Lexi Forces Unite Campaign. Go Cristina for sticking with "#3". I think we all learned something...right? ;)

Getting all weak in the knees with the "marry you " speech, but then it went all the other way. Careful Mer! Love the chief, but Adaele sort of grates on my nerves.
This was my least fav episode of this season and maybe all time, it just felt off. Don't get me wrong, it's still one of my fav shows,& I have high hopes for next week.
Compell me!

Oh! and how nice of Izzie to take the time to ponytail her hair, before saving the Chief's niece?

Wow, I CHEERED when she said that to Izzy. (she didn't forgive George either; at the end she admitted she didn't; and she walked). I hope Callie ends up with McSteamy. He is given no credit as having any depth; but he keeps showing flashes of decency, loneliness and downright romanticism, and he obviously was very attracted to her (and vice versa from before0; something George never seemed to be. I wish they'd hook up; they could help each other.

Alex surprised me. I didn't realize how much he had liked Izzy.

I agree, I think Sloane is a half way decent guy. He's just a whore. Nobody is perfect.

I also agree that Adele kinda bugs me.And I loved Christina sticking with #3. Lexie bugs me more than anyone else right now. So thats it right there. Callie, Adele and Lexie (not in that order)bug me.

As always can't wait till next week.

I thought this was one of the best episodes in a year of waiting for a good episode.

It had humor, medical stuff, romance, sadness, and Callie getting to show she's the better person. I think Izzie was majorly put in her place and I cheered. I know those of you who love Izzie and George together probably weren't happy, and I'm not even happy with Callie and George together, but I liked seeing Callie get the upper hand.
I would like to see them get divorced and George can do whatever or whomever he wants to. Then Callie can find herself a real man.

Some don't like Christina, I do. I think she's a scream. She's a mean witch most of the time, and it was fun to see her get "slapped" down by Derek, though his sudden caring about an intern's treatment was a little much. I mean it was only because it was Lexie. Interns are treated badly all over that hospital and he never bats an eyelash, so tonight was a bit phony.

I just felt that with this episode GA is finally coming back!

I loved the Callie speech to Izzie tonight!! I had to rewind it and watch it again because it was so incredible!! I love Sara R. She is such a great actress. I agree that Callie and Sloan need to get together. He has been showing more emotion lately and he listened to her when she told him she was suspicious about Izzie & George and he really seemed genuine and told her how great she was. Plus I think they would be funny and good together. It would be nice because both of them can be quirky, funny characters and I think it would finally get to show maybe a more human, romantic side to Sloan. Plus she could flaunt him in George's face -- who wants George when you can have McSteamy??? LOL

Okay, where does Alex get off judging anyone (even though I can't stand Izzie right now)? He isn't exactly the poster child for perfect in relationships. And then Jane Doe back next week, this just bores me too. She is married and has a child and now they bring her back for a quick romp. Maybe Izzie should be waiting to judge him then. I honestly thought that Lexie and Alex might be a good thing since he shot his mouth off about George and she was disgusted. Reminded me kind of old Izzie & Alex when they got together. Thought that the fireworks could fly with this one, Lexie being such a good girl type and Alex such a arrogant jerk. Definitely could see this working and then of course they bring Jane Doe back in the mix. I think Shonda likes to confuse everyone. First, Gizzie was supposed to be gone at the beginning of the season and now it's going to go on for a while longer. Shonda needs to make up her mind and stick with it!

Adele is annoying to me. Move on, chief and run while you can! The whole Derek/Mer thing still annoys me. I can't stand to hardly watch them anymore. So glad too that Derek took Christina down a little bit and that he was supportive of Lexie. I really like Lexie. She is a very likeable character now.

I think this has been the best episode so far this season. I thought it was going to be a horrible season, but this one definitely showed more promise. Now let's hope this keeps up.

OK, Erin, a little surpised there was no mention of Izzie and Alex in your blog. When Izzie told Alex (of all people) that she had slept with George I thought, "wow, that was a little heartless." I guess she just didn't take her relationship with Alex very seriously--must have been just sex to her where it obviously meant more to Alex. At the end where he came in her room and gave her a box of tissue I thought that was very sweet. You know Alex really has a sweet, caring side somewhere deep down in him--he just needs the right girl to bring it out to the surface! Too bad Alex and Izzie didn't work out--I liked them as a couple--but what would we have called them? Izzex? I dunno...:^O

I now know that I officially "old". I guess it's now okay to break up a marriage and then "fight" for the person. No, not okay, laudable. After all, Izzy wants her man. Thank goodness she was called out on that with reminders of Denny being her one true love. Callie was right, Izzy only wants what she can't have.

In my day, by the way, the other woman or man would have skulked away waiting for the married person to make a choice. But as I said before, the rules have apparently undergone a full face lift, and I'm left staring at my wrinkles.

Why is Christine so mean to her interns I really feel sorry for her. She is so bitter. I love Christine but I have to tell you I cheered when Lexie stood up to her and said that "my name is Lexi Grey not number 3" I was so happy she said that because if you think of it Bailey addressed them all by there names. I hope this changes soon either she needs to let her anger out or she need not to be a teacher. That said I think that it was a good show I cheered for Callie when she called izzie on her actions. And to all of my George lovers I am sorry to have to say this but he is a coward and he needs to grow the heck up.And Izzy just need her but kicked soon I hope. I can't wait til next weeks episode

Why is everyone so ready to put Callie up on that pedestal that Alex knocked George off last week? She married George, knowing full well that he was vulnerable and not quite sure of his feelings for her. Granted, George should never have proposed but Callie knew where it was coming from and accepted anyway. I'm not, by any means, condoning what Gizzie did but she needs to look back at herself and ask if she was so sure her marriage was that solid to begin with. She's so righteous but the minute she didn't get the "right" answer when she told George she loved him last season, she when off and slept with McSteamy. The night George ended up with Izzie, Callie picked a fight with him over his friendship with her and, in my mind, sent him right to her. They got drunk, did something stupid and now will pay the consequences. What Alex said to Izzie was probably what she deserved to hear but as Izzie said, he's no better. And isn't he the one that cheated on Izzie way back? Does he really have the right to be hurt that she turned to George instead of him? It was sweet at the end when he brought her the box of tissues though.

Derek was being way too nice to #3 last night. Christina was being true to form and he as totally stepping on that. The smug look Lexi would have after Derek would swoop in and save her from the "evil" resident was too much. I didn't like her before, but now I hate her! How dare Derek talk to the "other Grey" when he knows it's just going to make Mer made or upset her. So he was just telling Lexi all of the things he can't tel Mer. I would have been so mad if that had been my non-boyfriend and the sister-that-dad-picked-over-me. So he tells Mer he wants to marry her, have kids, blah, blah blah. He looked hot and I would have bought it but I still would have been mad. So now they've set up him meeting someone else that can give him what he wants. He'll date her for a while and then go right back to Mer. We all know it so why bother. Der needs to realize that Mer may not be the marrying kind and Mer needs to realize that Der isn't going to wait forever, regardless of what he says.

Okay, I feel the need to stick up for our poor Adelle. I think her reaction to the niece's decision was realistic. So often, family members just don't want to let go. Her motivation was purely selfish, as in "I will miss her so she has to stick around." And, remember, the niece is just 18. To Adelle, she is still a child. But that's human nature. The Chief, on the other hand, showed the other possible reaction - acceptance of the niece's decision.

Okay, can Derek just move on now? That whole MerDer thing is really annoying. How many people do you know would stick around hoping that their romantic interest will finally get their act together and be able to commit to the relationship? And, who knows if she will ever be able to do so?

I like the idea of Callie and McSteamy! That way, we could have more McSteamy shirtless scenes (yum)!

Lastly, I love me some Christina. She is so wonderfully snarky and even more so now that she has a little bit of power. If she turned all maternal towards her interns it would be such a betrayal to her character. Plus, since we dont' get as much Bailey as I would like (at least so far) we need that Christina sarcasm. Love that she stuck with her #3 name calling.

I've been lax on this season, but this episode was a good one to come back to. I don't want to see Izzie & George together...they make much better friends. Can't people stay friends without all that messy sexual tension?? What Derek said to Meredith at the end was so sweet, but Meredith better pull her act together. My favorite part? That Christina refused to call Lexi by her name and insisted on #3.
