Episode Recap: Where the Wild Things Are
Finally, a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy and it was well worth the wait! Even though it has been months since we last heard from the docs at Seattle Grace, in TV time it has only been six weeks since Meredith and Derek parted ways.
The night began with Meredith in her third therapy session with Dr. Wyatt (Amy Madigan). So far, the two of them have failed to have a meaningful conversation and just as Meredith was about to open up, her pager went off and just like that, Meredith was on her feet and out the door (once again escaping intimacy)!
Meanwhile, we find George and Lexie living in a rather beat up apartment, infested with cockroaches. Surprisingly, Lexie was unfazed by the creepy critters running rampant in their “new” place and she made a valiant effort to get George to see that with a little work, things could be better. Admittedly, I’m slightly concerned that she may become a serial kleptomaniac, but I was really impressed with the shabby chic makeover she busted out by the end of the show. Who would have thought underpads would make good placemats? And I bet Martha Stewart never thought to make a fruit bowl out of a bed pan! Nicely done, Lex.
On a more serious note, Seattle Grace was also dealing with a tragic accident tonight. A woman, her husband and his brother barely made it to the hospital after a bear attack. Meredith took a special interest in the one brother because she thought his irrational and impulsive behavior might be indicative of a tumor. In the end, she was right and the discovery led his wife to wonder if their recent quickie marriage was nothing more than a result of that tumor.
As the doctors raced to save lives, they were also racing to score points in a game judged by Bailey. Izzie ended up putting her patient, Otis (Cheech Marin), through numerous medical tests in the hopes that she might uncover a “medical mystery,” which was worth eighty points. Unfortunately for her, the only thing she uncovered was a possible case of the flu. Needless to say, Otis was not pleased that he had been treated like a test rat and he let her know it (and everyone else within shouting distance)!
Over the course of the last few weeks it would also appear that Erica and Callie have become good friends, much to the jealous dismay of Cristina. Although, Erica did ask Cristina at one point tonight if she wanted to stay in the operating room with her and observe her in surgery. While the opportunity cost Cristina points in the surgical game (viewing surgeries is only worth three points), that sacrifice may have scored her some personal points with Erica. Only time will tell.
In the relationship department, it looks like Rose and Derek are still seeing each other and Rose even blabbed to Lexie at one point that she thinks she’s in love. However, Mark made it clear to Derek that he doesn’t approve. In fact, Mark wins points with me for his innuendos and the elevator confessions he made to Derek tonight. Among those comments, Mark admitted that he was tired of waiting for Derek to cycle through his various love interests, even going so far as to say, “I thought it was going to be you and me…two guys on the prowl…”
In the end, Grey won the surgical contest (a sparkly pager that gives her first rights to surgeries for the next three months), but perhaps more importantly for her, she ended up back at Dr. Wyatt’s office---and as the show closed, we heard her say, “Okay, I think I better start talking now…” Something tells me this could be the beginning of the new Mer/Der journey.
There’s still so much more to say about tonight’s episode, but I really want to hear what all of you thought. Was it worth the wait in your eyes? Did anything surprise you tonight? Post your thoughts!
And until next time, here are some of my favorite lines of the night:
Lexie: “I’ve never even shoplifted a piece of gum before and now I’m a thief.”
George: “I complain a lot, don’t I? I need to focus on what’s good instead.”
George: “I wish you had stolen the TV’s.” Lexie: “I tried; they’re bolted to the walls.”
Izzie: “You see swollen ankles. I see medical mystery.”
The Chief: “You’re in a lion’s fight, Stevens. Just because you didn’t win, doesn’t mean you didn’t know how to roar.”
Mark: “You’re pathetic and I’m a lesser man for knowing you.”

The Chief said Izzie ran up a bill of $120,000 in tests trying to solve her "mystery" and get her points. Would that mean that the patient would actually get a hospital bill for all of that? Even if insurance covered it, it is still a gross abuse of medical services. They acted like it was no big deal. I know it's just a show, but it's annoying.

I just finished watching it. I think the strike and all the complaining from the viewers did this show some good. It was the best episode in a very long time. I hope they keep it up. I still could do without Hahn ...eh you take the good with the bad.

Blink and you'll miss it moment:
Pay attention early in the episode and listen to the overhead paging system in the background. They're calling for Dr. Benton. A small little shout out to "ER".

Yeah it was a good episode, but I still miss Burke and Addison. The triangle w/ Mer/Der/Addi was more entertaining. Remember those awkward elevator moments?? I didn't care for George and Izzie or Callie and George for that matter. Hahn does nothing for me either. The spark is gone even though I still enjoy the show. And that end of finale much hyped "kiss"--well let's hope it involves Yang and someone interesting. !And not Hanh and McSteamy- because that is just awkward! and NOT steamy)

I liked the ep tonight!!!!! It' about time we got some REAL writing and dare I say, Grey's seems to be getting back on track to it's original greatness (back on track mind you, NOT there yet though ).
I'm still a little annoyed by Izzie. I just want to see season 1 & 2 kick @ss Izzie. Whiny Izzie continues to grate on my nerves.
Where were the interns this episode? So the residents have a contest and their interns are left to fend for themselves?
I want them to wrap up this Hahn hating Yang thing. We get it! You don't like her! We get it! You are still her teacher though!
LOVED Derek and Mark's "bromance". Although I do miss the Eric Dane stubble. :-\
LOVED that Mer shouted out "Tumor!" and threw her arms in the air when she made the diagnosis! Hilarious!
LOVED klepto Lexie!
Welcome back Grey's!

Tonight's episode of GA reminded me of all the things that annoyed me about the show in the past, and why in the end, I didn't miss it at all. The scripts are so heavy handed with metaphor that it'as almost impossible to get past it. Did the patient marry his rebound woman because he loved her? NO, NO, NO, he had a brain tumor. Get the message Meredith? Then there are the other doctors??? Izzy put a patient through hell and cost the hospital $120,000 for to win a contest? What does she get? A pep talk and a slap on the hand. I hope the guy sues the hospital for millions! As for the rest, all they do is moan about their poor lives. And when they're not doing that, they're making judgements on everyone else. I haven't forgotten how they treated poor Callie just because George married her. This is a vicious bunch, and I'm quite over them. GC is already gone from my Tivo.

I partially agree with vivenbrenda.....I found myself slightly annoyed during the entire episode. The fast talking, Izzie REALLY annoying me, Lexie, everything was overdone. The only resident who seems remotely realistic is Alex. Interesting that they showed him sleeping through his pager, when in real life, he has a sleep disorder. Anyway, I cannot stand the Izzie character. Katherine Heigel overacts and is way too hyper. If they put George and Lexie together, I'll be very disappointed.
I'll still watch the show, but just roll my eyes through it....

Good show. Izzie needs sex. She is a little too hyper. Rose is so pretty and seems to have it together. I hope she stays around even after Der/Mer get back together. I enjoyed it. I'm glad it's back.

Well, I think it was a very good episode! For once, I didn't want to drink myself to sleep after having seen Grey's!
I loved Meredith. Strong Meredith. It's good that she went to therapy, but it was completely stupid when she said she has no problems. Come on Shonda, she KNOWS what her problems are, she even listed them to Christina!! Did you forget what you wrote (if it's even you!) already??!
Anyway, besides that, I loved strong Mer. But Derek is an idiot. Not only it made me very sad to see him so happy with Rose, like he didn't even miss Meredith AT ALL in the 5/6 weeks, but I really HATED when he said that Rose didn't sleep with her yet cause "she's a lady, she has morals". WTF? Does he again think Meredith is a whore for sleeping with him on the first night then?? Pff...
But at least there was THE look. Their look. At the end of the epi, they looked at each other, and you could see "oooh, it's SO not over between those two". So let's all hope. And hope that he WON'T sleep with the Plant!! Cause that would ruin any reunion between Mer & Der for me.
I also hope that in those next 5 epi, we'll see Derek apologize. I'm tired of everything being always all Meredith's fault. Let the *ss take some responsability is the fact that she has trouble to trust him (after all he did to her, it doesn't surprise me..). I hope he'll see how much he hurt Mer. Still does, flaunting his relationship with plot device...
By the way, can we say that Rose is REALLY strange?!! If Addi called Mer a twelve year old, then what is Rose? Three?? She's behaving like a 14 year old girl that has been kissed for the first time!! And Derek wants a MATURE relationship??? That girl is SOO weird...

Mark: “You’re pathetic and I’m a lesser man for knowing you.”
That was actually Derek's line from the beginning of the show that Mark repeated back to him.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that the shocking kiss in the season finale will be between Callie and Erica. And if I were Cristina, I would be really pissed at being made to feel uncomfortable in my own home.

The eppy was okay. I 'll give it a 6 on a scale of 1-10. Loved how Lex hooked up that apartment for George. I feel for Rose who is in for a rude awakening. I kinda like seeing Mer so dedicated to her career and not lying up with Derek in the on call room. Hahn needs to treat Yang better and hook up with McSteamy. Next week's episode is gonna be better. Addison's back, and I can't wait! Oh and by the way Rose is not weird, she is just acting like a woman who has been McDreamified!!

What if the reason Hahn is so mean to Christina is that she is trying to ignore romantic feelings for Christina. Maybe that is the big kiss at the end of the season.
