Episode Recap: Losing My Mind

Finally, after weeks of speculation, there’s a kiss! Not the kiss that is supposed to shock us all, that’s supposed to come next week…but an intriguing kiss nonetheless! I’m talking of course about Callie and Erica in the elevator. While the motivation for the lip-lock could obviously be attributed to Erica’s desire to rile up Mark (who is “turning over a new leaf”), one could also argue that it might have had more meaning for one, or both of the ladies involved. Hopefully, next week will shed more light on that one.

Meanwhile, Derek and Meredith found themselves working with a new patient, Greta (Regina Taylor), who appeared to be suffering from a romantic delusion involving a guy she allegedly met on a cruise. Greta’s only request was that they hold off on the surgery until he could arrive, which prompted a huge debate between Derek and Meredith: do they wait for this “phantom love,” and sacrifice precious time, or do they move ahead anyway? While Derek wanted to give Greta more time to hold onto the dream, Meredith was ready to get cracking. I found myself thinking the scenario was reminiscent of Flight Plan, with Jodie Foster---would this missing mystery person ever show up? Thankfully, he did, but he was too late. Greta ended up in what Derek branded a fatal coma. Could this really mean her fairytale is over?

On another disturbing note, Cristina continued to dwell in an angry place tonight. She had no interest in joining in on the landmark surgery that occurred tonight and she was eager to belittle just about anyone who crossed her path. Between taunting George about his lacking future without Burke’s direction and telling Lexie that she needs to “have some fire and be a force of nature,” it was pretty clear that the words coming out of her mouth were actually misguided accusations aimed at herself. Personally, I can’t wait for Cristina to get out of this funk because I much prefer the witty Cristina to the purely nasty one.

Tonight, Alex finally found out the truth about Ava/Rebecca and he continued to stay by her side anyway. And did I see that wrong, or was Alex rummaging through Izzie’s drawers tonight to find something for Rebecca to wear? Had I been Izzie I think I would have had a problem walking into that scenario, without having been asked permission first. At any rate, I do feel bad that Rebecca seems to be suffering from something far worse than what I had originally suspected (a severe case of pre-meditated manipulation).

Best monologue of the night goes to Lexie, when she confronted Mer in the bathroom. She not only hit on every one of Mer’s big issues in life (“our dad abandoned you; your mom was mean; you can’t let Derek love you and it all really sucks”), but she also managed to end her point with a solid finish, “I had this fantasy of my big sister and you have failed on every occasion to live up to that fantasy…but I still love you, whether you are capable of loving me or not.” Well done. Lexie’s other monologue, aimed at Cristina, was also quite noteworthy. I have to say, Lexie has grown to be quite an addition to this show.

On a lighter note, one of my favorite exchanges tonight was between Meredith and Cristina, who both agreed they were in a “dark place.” I also enjoyed watching George race around the hospital tonight, come to Tuck’s rescue when his parents were fighting and ultimately see him end the day with a compliment from the Chief and the Chief’s mentor, Walter (Paul Dooley).

As for Rose and Derek, well, I can’t say I like the pairing, but I do feel bad for Rose. She seems to be a genuinely nice person caught up with what we could call the right guy at the wrong time. But I still want Derek with Meredith, so I’m really hoping Rose finds someone else…soon.

So, what did you all think of the Erica/Callie kiss. Was it all in fun, or secretly meaningful? What will become of Alex and Ava now that everyone knows there is no baby? Ponder those thoughts as we head into next week and the season finale!

All in all, I thought it was a pretty good episode... at least as far as the acting was concerned. The Lexie-Meredith scene in the bathroom was great as you mentioned. Elizabeth Reaser continues to shine as Rebecca/Ava, especially in the last hospital scene with Alex & Izzie. Great supporting work from the two patients of the week (Regina Taylor & Paul Dooley).

One small thing though, Greta did not pass away at the end of the episode... she was stuck in a coma with virtually no chance of ever waking up.

I liked the show until the end when we had to put up with 2 female drs kissing at the end!
I didn't like that at all! Why change or show that on TV,we get enough of that junk on Cable.
Get Real writers!
We don't want reality we want a good, romantic written show like last year.
I wasn't offended just didn't find it necessary for the storyline.

Not my favorite episode. It was interesting, but a bit disappointing to me. I was expecting much more MerDer developments and they almost seemed to take a step backward as a couple. I'm glad Meredith finally admitted she had a problem, but I got frustrated watching her deny everything the entire episode. I loved that Derek looked at Meredith whenever Gladys talked about love, although it sucked for him that Meredith kept saying love wasn't real. But then he went back to Rose at the end of the night, and I hated him for that because the only reason he's with Rose is that he can't stand to be alone. And I don't like Rose.

Alex continued to be a jerk, but at least he accepted that Rebecca wasn't pregnant. And I don't hate Rebecca as much now that I know she's not just delusional or manipulative. That said, I want Alex with anyone except Rebecca. I hope he gets back with Izzie, but I don't think that's likely to happen with what happened with Gizzie.

Lexie has to be my new favorite character, and I'm glad she finally stood up for herself and called both Meredith and Cristina on their crap. Cristina, on the other hand, is fast becoming a character to hate. However, next week's preview gives me hope that we'll get the old Cristina back soon.

I still don't like the idea of Hahn and Callie. I love the way Callie and Sloan interact, and I think they'd be adorable together. Unfortunately, it looked like Callie was the one most affected by the kiss with Hahn.

I still don't like the idea of Hahn and Callie.

Count me as not on board with that whole ship either. I pray that's not Shonda laying the foundation for a season long plot line for next fall.

I was enjoying the idea of Sloan finally "manning up" and turning over a new leaf with Callie. They have such good chemistry together and it would be fun watching Sloan have a relationship with Callie that included his heart. They seem to be more equals than George and Callie were.

So are we to conclude that Bailey and her husband are not actually divorced yet? I hope not. I'd like them to work it out.

Nice to see George make some progress on the whole doctor front tonight.

now i realize that alex is brooding and can't handle his emotions, but (seriously) all the guy does is yell. i can't remember one episode where he hasn't screamed at somebody in a long while.

makes for really entertaining television, doesn't it?

i mean, i'm all for the procedural drama, and certainly the writers need to stay true to a character's personality - BUT COME ON! this is getting ridiculous. at this point, the guy doesn't have a personality. he is a two-dimensional rage-a-holic.

one of the funniest lines was george to the chief when the chief asked him why he was holding bailey's baby. "Dr. Bailey and I are in love and going to Vegas as soon as my divorce Dr. Torres in final!"
He cracks me up!! Also, The chief trying to figure out how to e-mail/text his wife was good too!

The Derek-Rose stuff is pathetic. I hope there is a point because right now I don't get it. Mer-Der together? When? Rose needs to go. Can't stand her. I am angry right now over this whole thing. Kind of wish I would not have started watching again after the strike, but did because of the promise of Mer-Der together.

I really liked this episode. However, because I recognized Jeffrey Sams name in the opening credits, as the show went on, I realized that the "fantasy" guy was real which was a little disappointing. However, I LOVE Regina Taylor from "I'll Fly Away" and really enjoyed seeing her again.

I wonder if Ava/Rebecca has a tumor that Mer/Der may end up operating on...? Hmmm....

WOW, did everyone wake up in a pile of crap, or what? I'm glad I have other things to worry about than getting so upset over a tv show!

I thought last night was wonderful. I laughed out loud, and I cried more than once. Then I watched Lost and cried some more, and THEN I flipped over to (dvr) The Office and I still cried. Although, most of that was good crying. :D

Thursday is easily the best night on tv right now.

I think Grey's is thoroughly enjoyable right now. I for one, am glad that not everything and everyone is all wrapped up the way "we want" it to be in one hour, or one season. If that's what you want, then start watching 30-minute sitcoms.

And as far as Erica/Callie go, I'm a little surprised at some of the comments on here, especially blasting the writers. There are actually situations in the world like this, and I think that was Erica's way to put her toes in the water and see what happens without completely putting herself out there and getting rejected and being humiliated. And, I think when Callie was getting off the elevator, she looked like she was completely confused, like maybe she wasn't sure if she didn't feel something (feelings-wise).

Anyhoo, I just wanted to comment b/c I skipped over a lot of comments b/c almost everyone was being so negative.

Get out of the house and let your hair down, people. It's only TV!!

Last week I thought Ava/Rebecca was showing signs of pregnancy caused by some sort of ovarian or uterine cancer. Now, I think she may have a brain tumor and be the patient that Mer/Der are finally able to save. Wouldn't that be awesome!

Episode just ok for me. Don't really like the Hahn/Callie pairing so I hope the kiss was all in fun but probably won't be. Grey's is all about Mer/Der for me so (after last night's episode) the hot kiss Ausiello has been referring to in the finale had better be between them.

I like the progress Meredith seemed to make, at least toward opening up about her really sad past and dealing w/ her baggage. Lexie is definitely growing on me and I can see a lot of potential for that actress. It's sweet that Alex is sticking by Ava's side-I think it shows a side to him we haven't truly seen before. And I'm SO glad they're bringing Tucker back in the picture because even if they're fighting it still leaves the door open for a resolution. As for the kiss, I too hope a LOT they aren't laying some kind of groundwork for next season. I enjoy the two actresses but their characters could have excellent story lines without making some kind of political statement. It's entirely unnecessary and Callie and Sloan were so fun together. I'm beginning to wonder if every show thinks they need a "token gay character/couple" now and that in and of itself is ludicrous.

I liked last night's episode... it was nice to see Grey finally open up to her therapist last night. Looks like Derek finally got to her! I agree about Alex constantly yelling... I can understand that Izzie comes across crazy sometimes, but why doesn't he give her a chance every once in awhile? I could have sworn I read that they would kiss last night but maybe that's next week?

I'm still hating the Ava/Rebecca storyline... it just seems like it becomes more ridiculous every week. Although I like someone's idea that she may have a tumor that MerDer operate on. I guess i'm just wondering if she survives, do her an Alex have a future?

Sloan continues to steal the show, in my opinion. Especially his expression when Callie/Haun kissed. I, for one, kind of like these two together. It's something different and it's kind of fun to see how freaked out Callie gets!

I agree that it was fun to see George running around, taking care of Bailey's son, etc. I lost it when he was reading the email that he wrote to the Chief's wife (on behalf of the Chief)... "this train's leaving and you better get on."

Overall, these last few episodes since the strike have been very enjoyable and definitely reminiscent of Seasons 1 & 2 (the good years)! The big passionate kiss that everyone is talking about HAS to be between Meredith and Derek... I can feel the sexual tension through my TV!
