We Made It Through This Day

Mer and Cristina have a close knit circle...Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh by Ron Tom/ABC
Episode Recap: "Haunt You Everyday"

Why should Izzie direct all of her questions to Bailey now? "Because she’s been sleeping with my husband," Callie announced, in that oh-so-matter-of-fact tone that bubbled up unexpectedly. And just like that, this episode was off and running!

So, tonight was Halloween, and as we all know, freaky things tend to happen on this holiday — and weird happenings were not in short supply at Seattle Grace. First, there was the guy who sliced off his finger with a chainsaw (accidentally), and then there was the guy who tried to slice off his foot (on purpose). I truly thought the latter was just an elaborate trick to scare Bailey, but obviously it wasn’t. Then, of course, there was Meredith being haunted by the ashes of her mother. Fortunately, Mer finally found a way to peacefully part with her mother’s remains, by returning them to the OR (via the OR sink).

As far as tricks go, though, I think my favorite was the one Derek played on Mark, when he paid the young boy in search of new ears to approach Mark and call him "Daddy." Talk about a priceless moment!

Another great moment was seeing Alex kiss Rebecca for the first time! It was nice to see Alex in a more loving mode tonight, but did he "chicken out" again by letting Rebecca slip away once more? Hopefully she’ll understand when she finds out that Alex only left her because Norm had a stroke, and his prognosis wasn’t looking good. Fortunately, Norm did survive, and he had an epiphany: He was not meant to be a surgeon (insert sigh of relief here)!

I was also pleased to see the camaraderie between Callie and Cristina tonight, as they managed to find some shared humor in their recently failed romantic relationships. Their ability to outdo each other in this category nearly reduced them to comedic tears, and more than likely will be the foundation for a solid friendship in weeks to come. Especially considering how hard Cristina was on Izzie tonight for sleeping with a married man.

Another highlight for me was the pro bono surgery Meredith organized and the conversation she had with Mark as they prepared for the procedure. Meredith confessed to the steamier-than-usual doctor that she had never gone trick-or-treating before, because her mother thought it "was rude to knock on people’s doors and beg for food." He then gave her the sweetest look and said, "The apple fell pretty far from the tree, huh?"

And tonight we learned that George isn’t the only one with marital problems, as Bailey seems to be struggling with a few issues of her own. Something tells me we’ll be seeing more of this in the future.

I really enjoyed this episode, and I’m curious to know what everyone else out there thought. Especially on the topic of Gizzie! Is George’s marriage really over now? Will Rebecca leave her husband for Alex? Post your thoughts and theories here!

i actually thought that this was the best episode so far this season. the other 4 episodes were certainly not the best we've seen but i think now it's starting to get back on track.

im glad we'll be seeing more of dr. hahn as well. i loved how she called christina out about sleeping with her mentors. genius

When I saw the heart transplant story I thought that GA had lost it. Boring and old hat. But the rest of it was ok. Just ok.

I did enjoy Callie/Christina, but then they are my favorite characters anyway.

I'd be willing to bet that now that George and Izzie can be together, the romance will be off the rose.....much more fun when it's naughty. Now, I think, they'll see their ridiculous love affair for what it really is. Nothing.

So sorry to be the voice of dissent, but I LOVED this ep. I have enjoyed the season.
That Ava left Karev her shirt--so he could sleep better--was sweet. Waiting to see this one play out.
Callie is awesome, always has been, but she was wasted on George. She is strong on her own, and deserves someone just as strong. George has the best bedside manner of any of the docs, but he needs to focus on himself for awhile.
And I loved the Mer/Lexie scene, with the dead cat story. I am sad that Derek needs to move on, but he does. Mer needs to fix what's broken, and then maybe they can work things out, but he shouldn't keep hurting himself with hope.
Christina? Best line-- "you can't have my apartment." Hahn should be an intriguing addition, especially when the claws are already out.
I'm a loyal Grey's fan, since episode 1. Last season had a few clinkers, but this season has me laughing out loud, and crying two seconds later. Keep it comin'!

I really enjoyed this episode, especially the little scene between Lexi and Meredith when Lexi tells her about the dead cat. Oh, and Norman didn't decide to not be a doctor...He decided not to be a Surgeon, he's going into psychiatry instead, he'll still be a Doctor.

I thought this was a great episode! It had humor and it brought tears to my eyes and that's always a good sign to me with Grey's.

I loved Meredith helping the little boy get the surgery by using her mother's memory. And I loved that he returned the favor by telling her the story of his fish and returning it to sea. Meredith did the right thing with her mother and I was happy to see the chief show up and help her. I think it will give both of them the closier they need.

Christina was a hoot tonight. Love her telling the chief he couldn't have her apartment because he hired Hahn and loved her interaction with Callie. Christina is not a favorite of mine but I loved her last night.

I can't wait to see what happens with Ava and Alex. I think it will be hard for her to leave her child behind, though, and I don't think she has it in her to take the child away from her husband.

I loved this episode...especially the scene where Bailey was pouring out her feelings to George. I love it that she is like a mother to them...And that she has flaws too.
My favorite part was when Derek used that child to play a trick on Sloane...that was brilliant!

I also think this was the best epi of the season so far! I almost spit my drink across the room when Callie just calmly explained why she wouldn't be fielding any of Izzie's questions...and it just got better from there. I was so happy to see Derek & Mark being so friendly, and Meredith & Lexie interacting without any major drama or hurt feelings. Also, loved it when Mer said she couldn't handle going to the wedding of Dr. Derek Shepherd & Dr. Sydney Heron.

Grey's is back!!!

I LOVED the episode. Damn near fell outta my bed when Callie explained WHY Izzie was to direct her questions to Bailey. Jeez-a-loo....that was priceless. I felt that was just the beginning of another great episode and it was.

Haven't watched Grey's much this season (renovating the home. NO cable!). But happy to have caught this episode. While I'm not a huge fan of the George/Izzie pairing, I'm slowly being won over being wooed by their love. Whatever else, they do genuinely care for each other. Is it romantic love or "sibling" love? That's yet to be determined. But I like that the show is not back-pedaling on this and let the implications of their pairing play out in the beauty and ugliness of it all. Could that kid be any cuter? Trick-or-treating for ears? Awww!

Erin - actually, Mer was flushing her Mom's ashes in an OR sink so she could be closer to what she loved best - the OR.

Loved this epi! Loved Callie and Izzie, loved Callie and Christina. I loved that the little kid totally called out Mer for being such a sourpuss! Most of all, I'm really starting to enjoy Eric Dane. I love watching his face. His reactions are just spot on - you can almost hear the gears churning. Such as when the little boy called him Daddy - the utter panic mixed with calculation on his face was priceless. Then, his reaction after Mer told him the story about her trick-or-treating hating Mom. There was an extra long beat and I got the sense that he was really thinking that Mama Grey was a total B*&%# but then he covers with a nice compliment.

One thing that annoyed me - why play out the Chief's marriage break-up off screen? It would be nice to give him - and the divine Loretta Divine - some good scenes.

THE ONLY thing I liked was Alex and Ava....well I liked the Mark Derek thing too...but whole, "Dating" thing bugged me.

This episode bugged me. Cristina was right; her situation *was* different. Her point was that the guy she was with was not married. And when Izzy tried to justify herself by stating that Meredith was with a married man too (Derek), why didn't Cristina point out that Meredith was unaware of that fact at the time? I really like Alex & Rebecca together, and am glad for Bailey to have a story line (finally) but why all the marriage break-ups? I'm tired of seeing infidelity plastered all over my tv. Are they that desparate for plotlines that they have to resort to that with every character?

Also, there's no way that a surgery of that magnitude (reconstructing ears) could happen that fast. The kid wasn't ready for surgery (probably had been eating all day) and Sloan knew nothing of his medical history, had never seen x-rays of his head, etc. Totally unrealistic.

I just hope the Callie/Christina story line and Dr. Hahn's hiring help elevate what I think has been a mediocre season so far. The Gizzie thing has got to end - but not with George and Callie back together. George and Izzie look as uncomfortable together this season as many of us have felt with their relationship all along. I think the actors are starting to feel the same way as some of the viewers and it's showing up on screen. Personally, I think pairing up the Chief and Dr. Hahn might be interesting - the lesbian storyline is tired - just like couples pairing up and having babies on shows - it will be another sign that the writers are tired and out of ideas.
