The Chief Gets a New Girlfriend
Alex learns to "just say no." Justin Chambers by Ron Tom/ABC
Episode Recap: "Physical Attraction...Chemical Reaction" (November 8th, 2007)
"Chemistry. Either you've got it, or you don't." And tonight, Gizzie fizzled! I thought it would bring me happiness to see this pairing finally come to an end, but it left me kind of sad instead. Here were two people who went to great lengths to be together, only to find that the thrill was gone, once the moment of truth came. And in the wake of all that drama, a marriage was destroyed and reputations have been tarnished. The question now is, where do George and Izzie go from here?
On a happier note, the Chief did get a new girlfriend tonight. Okay, so that's not entirely true, but it was funny how Mark suggested that's what Derek had become. I'm loving the chemistry between all three of these guys, who remind me of schoolboys at recess the way they playfully tease and taunt one another. They definitely bring a fun element to the show, that otherwise seems to be lacking this season.
Meanwhile, Cristina still can't catch a break with Dr. Hahn, who purposely removed her name from the surgery board this week. Hmmm, you could almost brand that one karma for Cristina. Remember how Cristina cleared Bailey's name from the surgical board, back during Burke's injured hand days? Still, it was hard to watch Cristina search for a new specialty, when you know the only thing she really wants to do is cardio. Hopefully, she can find a way to win over Dr. Hahn soon.
It was fun to see Callie rocking out in the OR tonight, which then made me wonder---how many other surgeons get their drill on that way? Regardless, it was good to see Callie something other than stressed out and bogged down, the way she has been for the last few weeks. Yeah, I would say things were going pretty well for Callie today, up until she got fired for letting Bailey do her job. It's a shame, too, because I really thought this "day off" for Callie would have helped her clear her head and get back into the swing of things. Though there's no denying that Bailey makes a better Chief Resident. It was also nice to hear the Chief tell Bailey, "What you do and how you do it, makes this hospital work." Something tells me that those tears Bailey cried were out of relief over finally hearing those words, supportive words that Bailey has probably been waiting to hear her husband say.
Proving that there is still some hope that Meredith and Lexie may someday become real friends, the two inadvertently began to bond over an adopted baby. When a random accident claimed the baby's mom, the father was left wondering if he could raise the baby alone, an infant that he felt he hardly knew. It was Meredith who told the dad, in words that were also meant for Lexie, that some people just need a little more time to bond, in order to feel like family.
Speaking of Mer and Lexie...It was an interesting and surprising moment when Alex refused to have further relations with Lexie. My first thought was that he was nipping this one in the bud because he realized he was still too into Rebecca to pursue someone else, but that of course was not the case. Instead, Alex was attempting to end the casual love affair, per Mer's request. Though Alex suggested he really did it because he didn't want to deal with any more women who have issues. He did end up taking Lexie home from the bar though, again, per Mer's request. And it was at Lexie's house that we saw Mr. Grey, drunk and stumbling to his car. This was another moment I had pegged wrong, as I thought he was going to get in his car and have a fatal accident. Though I do think we will be seeing more of Mr. Grey in the near future.
On the Mer/Der side of things, Mer is making progress. At least she's sticking around a little longer after their love sessions. But will that be enough? If what the promo for next week suggests really does turn out to be Derek on a date with another woman, Mer may need to kick it up a notch, or three.
Last, but not least, I have to mention the Mark and Erica situation. I'm not sure how I feel about a potential relationship between these two. Mark does like his women on the sassy side, but Erica seems to think Mark's attraction to her is more about her confidence and her skill, rather than her more personal side. I don't know. These two just don't seem like a good fit to me. What do you think?

IMO this was the best Grey's in a long time. I have enjoyed them all but this one had me reacting to everyhting the old way, clapping, crying, laughing-
Chemistry it's back-
I don't really see Ericka & Sloan together romatically,( beyond any casual hooking up) but possibly powerful pals one day.

Izzie and George just couldn't have turned out any differently than it did tonight. Though I sure didn't need to see what seemed like days of them having bad sex!
I think Callie is really relieved about losing her position. She knows Bailey is the best and she can get back to what she is good at and loves.
Bailey, Bailey, Bailey. Finally. Love it.
I did think Dr. Hahn looked prettier and more feminine with her hair down tonight. From some things I've read, they just may make her a lesbian, so it's no wonder she wasn't attracted to Sloan.
Meredith and Derek still make me sick, but I didn't mind her scenes separate from him tonight. I'm so not a fan, so that's saying something.

I really can't add much to the recap - you caught alot of the things I was mentally commenting on last night. Although the saying is "nip it in the bud", not "butt," but I'll cut you some slack - it's early and it's Friday! I do think Lexie knows a little more about abandonment issues than Mer thinks - look at the way Mr. Grey has totally bailed since Susan's death. Even at the hospital the day of her funeral last season he cried out "I have nothing to live for" - right in front of his daughters. Nice job, dad. It's obvious that Lexie saw the parellels between her dad and the young father at the hospital.
I almost feel guilty for balking about Gizzie - it's like, of course Shonda always planned it that way. We all felt icky about it because it was supposed to feel that way. They busted up a marriage and put their careers on the line b/c one night they had amazing sex and decided that they were "meant to be," like a couple of junior high kids.
One thing I am confused about - did Torres get fired fired, or just fired from the Chief Resident position? Granted, she shouldn't have tried to pull a fast one on Webber, but if she were fired over that while Izzie, Burke and Christina were able to keep their jobs after killing - and nearly killing - a patient? Please tell me I'm wrong and that Sara Ramirez is not leaving the show.

Ok, my Grey's is back!!! YAY! I loved the beginning with Alex, then George, then Izzie going to Meredith about their sex lives (or in Izzie's case, chicken lips, too funny). I also wondered if Callie was fired fired from Seattle Grace. Another question I have, she moved into "Burke's" apartment, did Cristina move out? From the way it looked back when Cristina moved in, it was one bedroom, bathroom in it, kitchen, & a living room. Where is Callie sleeping? Surely not with Cristina, although she was staying at Mer's house for a minute. I don't think I saw 2 beds in that room that she was painting blood red, course it was just the one wall, that we saw.
I too thought that Mer/Lexi's dad was going to get in a car crash, I actually thought that Alex was going to go with him & they were going to get in a wreck, I know, I have a twisted mind, must be from watching this show!!
I actually thought that Sloane was going to hook up with Cristina, the way they were both bonding over the new Cardio witch. I love how Hahn is not wanting to get involved with anyone there. Weird that the only one that she wants to talk to is Meredith, oh wait, please do not let her be lesbian & go for that wack job. That would be way worse than Gizflop. I was glad that they both were lying that it was really great sex. What's he going to do now? I mean he's screwed up his marriage & there's no other place for him at that house with Izz & Mer now that Alex is living there.
OHHHHH why did the chief think that it was ok for him to walk in Derek's house without knocking? & then he got mad at Derek, told him to lock his door, hellooooo knock! Seriously?

Burke's place has to be a two bedroom - remember all the crap Christina had in her apartment? Where did that all go? Burke was a world-reknowned cardiologist - or something like that. he could afford to leave behind a fully paid-for condo and go off and work for Berkut. At least that's how I figured it out in my mind. I need a life.

Erin - It's "Nip it in the BUD" - NIP IT, NIP IT, NIP IT,! How could you forget that great quote coming out of Barney Fife's mouth time after time?
Anyway, I also heard Hahn is going to be a lesbian and she might be hot for Christina!
Great episode - loved the end of Gizzie - even if it was bittersweet. Oh, and still not loving George's new 'do. Looks too puffy to me!

Great eppy last night. I'm glad Gizzie is down but sadly because ofa drunken oen night stnad they mistook for a real attraction , for love a marriage was destroyed and a a decent woman callie was hurt very badly.
Like everyone else I'm wondering was Callie totally fired like Seriously? or just friend from being chief resident but will continue as the orthopedic resident.
I ma happy that Bailey was finally given the job she deserved someday Bailey is going to make a great chief of surgery. I too thought maybe there was a possible hookup coming with Cristina and Sloan. Can't really see Sloan with Hahn she seems a bit of a cold fish although I would have said that of Cristina at one time too. I think Mark & Callie might have potential unless Sara Ramirez is leaving the show the whole firing thing is confusing as some pointed out others have done worse things and kept their jobs!
Enjoying the sloan/sheperd friendship renewed and their scenes with the chie f ahve provided some lightness in the dark. mark teasing Derek about Being the chief's g.friend was funny
I'm glad Grey's didn't go with the obvious and have papa Grey get killed or injured ina drunk drivignaccident. both girls have lsot their mothers recently and whiel eh may not be a god father I dont' think they need another loss in their lives.
I kind of like the potential of alex lexie actually more so than rebecca and alex. IMO Rebecca/alex was kind of izzie/Denny. A patient and their doctor forming a bond and IMO Mistaking it for love. yeah Alex slept with Rebecca but Alex hasn't really been the committed type if he was truly in love with Rebecca woudl he have slept with Lexie?

Watching Cristina and Mark talk about Haun and surgery, I placing my money on the two of them getting together. I see it as starting off as just a casual stress reliever then turning into somethng else. Thats just my guess.

While I appreciate the risks Shonda Rhimes has taken in pairing George with Izzy, I---like so many others---am relieved to see the relationship start to unravel. I sense they're capable of ultimately returning to a close friendship.
I really enjoyed the episode. On one hand, I scoff and find myself distanced by the cartoonish behavior of certain characters (esp. the guests). In comparison to, say, ER, Grey's Anatomy lacks verisimilitude, a reality check. And yet I like the regulars on the show. Everyone of them (excepting Sloan, perhaps---he's just such the caraicature of a predatory guy). The show evokes emotions. Good, bad, happy and sad. It has a certain familiarity. I care about the regulars. Esp. Bailey. So things stop short of going over the top (yes, Gizzie has grown progressively awkward to watch). So I'm happy with how things are evolving. Still, I wish Meredith would access therapy, process her abandonment issues and settle down with Shepherd. But many, myself included, have allowed great relationships to be sabotaged. We just weren't ready.

I loved this episode as well.
So happy that the George and Izzie thing is over! It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out now though.
I don't think Callie got fired fired, i think she just got fired from being chief resident. At least I hope that's the case since she's great at her other job and I don't want to see this character go.
I too think it's only a matter of time before Meridith and Lexi's dad gets into an accident and ends up at Seattle Grace. At least it was a matter of time, with this writers strike who knows when that will happen.
I'm glad that Bailey got the chief resident job. She's definitely good at it and I don't remember the chiefs reasoning behind not giving it to her in the first place. She's a better person than me though because I would never have helped Callie out, I would've let her fail and let the chief see that he made the wrong choice. If she'd done that she would've gotten the job much sooner. And you just know that this job is going to get her into a lot of trouble with her husband. It seems like a demanding job on top of doing surgeries and if she's already missing her sons first things (halloween) it's most likely going to get worst now with the added responsibility. Not fair because she's so good at what she does.
Meredith does get on my nerves. She needs to get it together and see that she's going to lose Derrick. What guy is going to wait around for ever. She knows what she's doing and she continues.
I really can not stand the character of Alex but I swear everytime I get to the point of really disliking him, his character always does something really nice. Like tonight, not going with Lexie because of Meredith and then going with Lexie because of Meredith and offering to drive to the liquor store for their father.
I hate to stereotype but Dr. Hahn is soooo a lesbian it's not funny and everytime Sloan looked at her during this episode seemed like a waste of time and really forced.

i thought this was a good eppy...i think that meredith and lexie have so much more in common than meredith gives credit for and eventually when she opens up to lexie she'll see that even though mr. grey "chose" lexie he was still a rotten father.
I think that Callie is just fired from the chief job, not entirely. Good for Bailey getting what she deserved but it will definitely create tension in her family now that she'll have even more responsibility at work.
SO glad that Gizzie is dying! They simply don't have chemistry as Meredith narrated last night...but we've known that all along.
