May 10, 2007: Testing 1-2-3
How many of you were sitting there waiting for somebody to ask Addison how L.A. was? Almost the entire hour went by and Sloan finally asked her: "How was L.A.?" Addison replied with, "L.A. was different." And different would be the perfect way to describe the opinions expressed in the comments section last week. I thank you for your honesty, but most importantly, for respecting the opinions of others (including mine). Hey, different strokes for different folks, right? Now, onto this episode...
Wow. For those of you who were like me and felt really bad for Meredith after her father Thatcher slapped her last week, how about this time? I'm going to sound like a broken record, but sometimes the best acting is reacting. The way Ellen Pompeo reacted as Meredith while Thatcher yelled at her, blaming her for Susan's death, was acting at its best. I just wanted to hug her. Just like the Chief did toward the end. I love their relationship. Meredith: "Just because you slept with my mother, it doesn't make you my father." I was so glad he made it so she could retake the test. That was a great example of good friends caring about another friend when they were all so concerned about Meredith not passing their make-it-or-break-it medical exam. So typical for George to be the leader of the concerned ones. No matter how intense he gets with Izzie, we all know that Meredith is the one he pines for the most, and those feelings will never go away.
As for Izzie and George, I'm liking that Callie is getting overly suspicious, but I still hope that she never has to see them together. It's obvious George wants to move on: "I'm a married man." Hopefully Izzie's lie to George that their night together "didn't mean anything" makes George decide to stay and not take the job at Mercy West (not to mention that Bailey chastised him for even considering leaving). Yes, Izzie cried alone in the closet. I want her to take Melissa Manchester’s advice not to cry out loud and to keep it inside. No such luck at the end, with Izzie getting way too emotional about Cristina's wedding vows. I loved Meredith: "You're talking about Denny, right?"
It was nice to see James Pickens Jr. featured so much, and not just through "who's going to replace you as Chief?" scenes. When Adele (Loretta Devine) was shown in the previews last week lying on the ground, I certainly didn't expect the 52-year-old to be pregnant... with someone else's child. The "barren" Addison was definitely a pregnant lady magnet: "I'm being stalked by pregnant women!" Interesting how Callie shared that now might be the right time for her own baby. Not so fast, Callie.
My favorite Derek moment was when he told Meredith that he brought a black suit "just in case" she wanted him to attend Susan's funeral with her. My least favorite Derek moment was the chick at the bar (Chyler Leigh) flirting with him, but it quickly turned into a good moment when he rejected her flirtation. At least for now. That bachelor party was pretty lame, but Addison was the highlight: "I am not stripping." Derek: "We've seen it already." Sloan: "True." Burke: "I haven't." Sloan's best moment was asking if he and Addison could be "friends with benefits."
Did you notice that Elizabeth Reaser is now looking like Elizabeth Reaser? No more prosthetic makeup. Perfect timing since Jane Doe/Ava secretly regained her memory but didn't want Alex to know... until now. Her real name is Rebecca Pope and she left her husband, getting on that fateful ferry "to see the sights." Alex, there's your cue to sweep her off her feet. Rebecca Karev — sounds lovely.
The casting people for Grey's must be fans of the newly renewed Friday Night Lights. Two of the four injured mountain climbers (Kevin Rankin and Derek Phillips) and the woman who played Serena, the birth mother for Joe and Walter's possible future twins (Aasha Davis) were FNL first-season costars. (I say "possible" since Serena passed out right after Adele did — what was with all of the falling pregnant women?) Speaking of Joe (Steven W. Bailey), how rare to see him involved in an actual plot, rather than just serving everyone drinks at the bar. And I keep expecting Walter to turn into a mean guy, only because I'm used to seeing Jack Yang play one of James' thugs on Nip/Tuck. Back to the mountain climbers: the third one was played by Brian Tee; the fourth one was wheeled in at the end with an ax in his head. Ouch. Did the other three leave him behind because one of them axed him (and I don't mean a question)? We shall see...
Next week is the slightly extended season finale — Cristina and Burke's wedding. If you record it, be sure to add an extra 15 minutes just to be safe. (My TiVo says it is an hour and fifteen minutes, and it is followed by a 45-minute Lost: The Answers special.) Oh... if you skipped the previews for next Thursday, you won't "get" this, but let me just say: Whoopi Goldberg eyebrows! Can't wait.

I really liked this episode. It was nice to see Grey's Anatomy back in top form and finally using all of its cast.
Bailey is one of my favorites and Chandra was great when she thought she was going to be chief resident and Callie basically said "not so fast." And Callie had just done three major ortho surgeries ... It as so great that they gave Callie something more to do than show up to stare at George because Sara Ramirez is so great.
So I have a question. We all know that the interns were divided up into multiple teams of five and each team was assigned to a different resident for supervision. We saw all just how many interns there are at SGH during the exam. We also know that Callie and Sydney (is that her name?) are both second year surgical residents with Bailey. So where are the interns that they should be supervising?
Ellen Pampeo was just fab dealing with her father and that look on her face while she sat unmoving, pencil in hand, during the exam. Does the trouble never end for Meredith? I know that she didn't reach out to Derek during all of her recent family problems, but he when told her he met someone and she asked if she should be worried and he said yes ... that was just awful.
And most of all, I love George as the caring, nurturing friend. everybody needs a George in their lives.

It's officially "groundhog day" at GA. And am I ever bored. Meredith rejected by daddy? Been there, done that. Time and time and time again. Meredith numb and frozen in fear and dispair for hours and hours --- been there, done that last year with Izzy, who stood outside the hospital all day. (In both cases, the fabulous fanstic four other docs came to the rescue) Izzy inovlved in a tragic self-absored affair, one destined to end in heartbreak --- for someone else! (yes, we all know she's preggy) Wasn't she just numb and frozen in dispair over Denny this morning? George hurting Callie again? Yeah, been there too. This is the flaw with hospital dramas that focus too much on the rabbit matings of its soon to be incestuous staff. It becomes too heavy on the personal drama (in the case of GA that translates to sexual romp)and not enough on story. Either bring in more characters to mix up the pot or find new stories to tell. As far as I'm concerned, last night GA jumped the shark.

I personally thought that it was a great episode. Chandra Wilson's Bailey is the best character on Grey's. Also Ellen Pompeo also had a good acting episode last night as well.... However, did anyone think that the girl that hit on Derek, was Mer's unseen half-sister Lexie??? I know I did...Just because we never have met her and what she said about it not being a great day for her..... plus the actress was offered a 13 episode gig next season.... I may not be complete correct ,but it is an idea

I am right there with ya, vivienebrenda!! I watch the show out of habit but I think I am done now. For me, the show jumped (I don't care how many of you hate that term) with the inane Denny/Izzy crap (Hi! I have known you for a month and you are the love of my life!!) and now Meredith is playing the same old, same old poor meeeee schtick and Derick likes someone else?? Puleeze. It is rather amazing how fast the show has sunk. The three episode arc bit and it just cannot recover. And before someone blasts those of us that can see the mess GA has turned into...what we expect of a hit show that rose to the top like this is for it to remain a well written solid show for more than a season!! Which it so dissapointingly has NOT. George & IZZY?! Ewwwww and also, GET REAL...as if that would happen in any universe.

I also don't understand why Meredith is pushing Derek away. What is her deal?? She will lose him and it will be her own fault.
And, um, who says Izzie is pregnant??

I never understand why some of you think the George and Izzy storyline is so unbelievable. In reality, people fall in love with their best friend all the time. Many people marry their best friend after knowing the person for many years just as a friend. Who knows you better and still loves you after seeing your best side? Your best friend.

Ellen Pompeo is such a great "reactor". How can she express so much pain without saying a word?! It reminded me of the scene where her mom was telling her she was average. What an amazing skill!
As Meredith's half sister was pulling their dad away from her, I was hoping she would turn around and mouth "I'm sorry" to Meredith but no such luck.
I was sure that Callie was gonna tell Addison she was pregnant.
When did Jane Doe/Ava get her teeth fixed? In the previous episodes, I kept thinking she's gonna need major dental work after her plastic surgeries were done. Last night, her teeth were perfect.
I'm glad the Chief let Meredith retake the test and I'm glad she let him hug her when she cried.
I saw the previews. I can't wait to see the "Whoopi Goldberg eyebrows" scene.

fumfum808, that wasn't Meredith's half sister, b/c she was in the episode tonight, she pulled her father away as he was yelling at Meredith, but it is interesting that this mystery woman will have a long storyline next season! Inevitably she must work in the hospital, b/c how else could she make it into so many episodes? I really enjoyed the episode last night, but then again I usually do. That doesn't mean there aren't some things I don't like, but that's what makes a show like Grey's so great... you can't love everything that happens all the time, or it would be boring. The writers have to keep you on your feet, and keep you emotional along wtih the characters, and Shonda definitely does that. It's clear that George and Izzy have feelings for each other, and while I don't condone cheating, it's a TV SHOW, and a storyline... so relax, go with it, and remember that it's not real life, it's entertainment!

I was a late-comer to Grey's as I am pretty picky about what new show to get hooked on, since I do get hooked.
I really liked the first mini-season, and the second season I went back and forth until the totally rocking season 2 finale. I was hooked good then, though I had the advantage of watching it all within a 3 month time span over the summer.
I have waited all season 3 for the show to get going. Yes, I like some of the characters, the acting is decent, and there have been some bright moments. But, this show needs some new blood, new romances, new stories, and more compelling medical dramas of the week (one of the things I liked best about the second season).

Oh I forgot about that... would make sense as to why she will be on for so long next season, but she seemed a bit too cheery to have just come from her mom's funeral!

Ok...I missed something. When did Derek tell Mere that he met someone else??
And last night towards the end of the show, my son and I started wrestling around and to get back at me, he hit delete before I could see the previews. At first, I thought, 'no big deal' but apparently I missed something good regarding some eyebrows????? Now he is really going to get it!!! ~smiles~

I thought Thatch had two other daughter's beside Meredith. I cannot fathom why he just can't cope with the fact that Meredith is his daughter? She was his first child. And him saying Susan was his everything? Meredith has nothing, no fake mommy, no real mommy, no daddy, and practically no McDreamy. At least he has his daughters and grandchild. That girl in the bar so reminded me of Meredith.
I don't like Callie. I don't know what the big deal about her is. She's just too much.

did anyone think that the girl that hit on Derek, was Mer's unseen half-sister Lexie???
Yes! Ausiello said that the bar woman was being offered a 13-week deal for next season. It made me feel better to think that it was Mer's half-sister and not just some floozy to throw yet another wrench into the MerDer relationship.
