Episode Recap: "The Great Cappie"

The girls of ZBZ are getting fed up with super perky Lizzi’s strict rules and are in major need of some fun. Lizzi squeals at the idea of a Great Gatsby themed, educational, alcohol-free party but Casey has other plans. With Cappie’s help the Kappa Tau basement is secretly transformed into a Prohibition era speakeasy, the location of the “real” party.

Planning a party based on a classic novel can be very distracting, like say distracting Calvin from Omega Chi? That’s right, Calvin just might switch sides and be the newest Kappa Tau pledge. Evan, however, isn’t too happy at the thought of losing Calvin as a pledge and takes his frustration out on Rusty (Chill out Ev, no need to snap. Rusty was just defending his sister’s honor). Before you get your hopes up, the let down and unsure look on Calvin’s face when Cappie had nothing to say about leadership and alumni connections pretty much gave away his feelings. Also, Evan turns out not to be such a jerk when he kicks homophobic Trent out of Omega Chi. To Rusty’s disappointment Calvin didn’t go the way of KT and went back to Omega Chi.

It seems the only two people consumed by something other than the party are Cappie and Rebecca, though if I were having secret sex with a hot guy, I’d be slightly distracted from party planning too. Rebecca insists they continue hooking up and nothing more but Cappie’s seems to have something else in mind.

The secret basement party is a hit. Ashleigh sings the blues (who knew she could sing like that?) and the kids hit the booze! Super perky Lizzi is too excited by the punch and the dancing lessons to notice basement foot traffic, but her surprise guest Dean Bowman isn’t. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention super perky Lizzi invited the dean to the party? Casey freaks out at the thought of getting caught and rallies the rush troops to distract their unknowingly invited guest.

But not even ZBZ’s stellar conversation skills can get them out of this pickle! Desperate times call for desperate measures…in the form of a literacy club? Cappie distracts the dean and the police by stealing a golf cart, giving the gang downstairs just enough time set up an impromptu reading club with Beaver at the center. Oh, what a night!

Side note: Nice Plain White T’s cameo and the top line of the night was Calvin’s aggressive comeback to Trent’s insults “I don’t even like cosmos, bitch!”

What did you think of the party? And what about that crazy trailer for next week?
