Episode Recap: "Spring Broke"

Oh man, it’s time for the most wonderful college tradition. A booze-filled week of partying on the beach, SPRING BREAK! Rusty is packing for the beach, while Dale is going wild turkey hunting. (Why doesn’t that surprise me?) ZBZ is closed for the week which means Casey and Ashleigh can cross off the few remaining things on their spring break to-do list from freshman year. Kappa Tau takes the school bus that has faithfully taken them to 32 beaches.

However once the kids hit South Carolina, they experience a few minor problems. Casey arrives at the hotel only to find two of the five rooms she booked are available to ZBZ. And KT’s faithful bus isn’t in the best condition.

No time to worry about transportation and lodging when there are hot boys to flirt with, right Ash? She ends up spending her entire break searching for the hotness monster. Dragging boyfriends onto the beach—or a banana boat—can also be distracting. I shouldn’t rag on Rebecca too much, it’s kind of sweet that she wants to spend time with Cappie. After weeks of training, Rusty is ready to use his ID only to find the actual Chad Stewart in line to get into the club.

Despite the smoothies and sandcastles and clubs (Oh my) all around him, Calvin isn’t having the best time. I guess vacation can be lonely when your hot French-speaking boyfriend isn’t around. Turns out Rusty isn’t having the best time either (bad case of high expectations) and so he decides to leave…on the same bus that Calvin is taking home. When the bus doesn't work out, the two barely talk as they try to find a rental car company. Rusty tries to use his fake ID but once again it fails to get him what he wants. Rusty says its cursed, maybe he’s right.

An extremely upset Rebecca spots Cappie helping Casey cross off “entering a contest” off of her list and lies to him about feeling fine. Instead of talking to Cappie, Rebecca gets wasted, enters a wet t-shirt contest and breaks up with Cappie (I usually cry to a friend, but whatever works for you). After an angry spectator punches Cappie in the face, he and Casey go for a walk on the beach and totally make out!

Evan is enjoying being single on spring break, but needs a break from all the ladies after a while. His “break” didn’t last too long because he ends up hooking up with Frannie. We knew that was coming, but motives are a little suspicious. We’ll see how long this lasts (and how angry Casey gets at Frannie next year).

Rusty calls Dale who drives him and Calvin back to school (apparently turkey hunting wasn’t all it was cracked up to be). Though he may be eccentric, Dale is a good guy underneath it all. He locks Calvin and Rusty out of the car, eccentric, until they make up, good guy. His crazy plan works and all is well with their friendship again (finally).

It turns out Rebecca’s father is in trouble (when will politicians learn that prostitution rings are never a good idea?) and Cappie instantly goes to be with her. So the Casey-Cappie reunion won’t happen any time soon, but Casey got to cross “kissing a guy on the beach” off of her list, so it wasn’t a total bust.

Casey and Ashleigh end up watching the sunrise together. Ashleigh never found her hot guy but did find his shoe. He was wearing a CRU hat at one point, so I’m sensing a Cinderella moment next season. As the best friends talk, Casey reminds Ashleigh there is just one thing left on the list: skinny dipping. The two giggle and run into the ocean…and then two sketchy guys steal their clothes. Oh, spring break!

Well, that’s the end of the season. What did you think? Good ending? Are you happy Cappie stayed with Rebecca? What about Evan and Frannie? Predictions for September? I hope y’all enjoyed the recaps, I know I had fun writing them.

Hey Sara!

Thanks for writing all these Greek blogs. Totally bummed that more people don't watch (or post about) this awesome show! Please tell me when it will return!

Now, as for the show, I'm not sure who I want Casey with — Cappy or Evan! Maybe Ashleigh's Hotness Monster has a friend or she can hook up with the real Chad Stewart!

I'm really enjoying the friendship themes of the show: Rusty and Calvin; Rusty and Calvin and Dale; Casey and Ash; Casey and Cappie; etc. And I'm actually feeling sorry for Evan ... not for what he did to Casey, but how his life's plans revolve around his family. He actually reminds me of Logan from Gilmore Girls, only less angry.

Anyway, I wanted to say thanks again and see you on campus!

I totally LOVE this show! My roommate and I watch it religously, and we are so sad this season is over. Does anyone know when season three is going to start? I just bought season 1 on dvd, so hopefully that can tide me over until the new season begins.

Now, while I love this show, I was slightly dissappointed in the finale episode. I wish it was more Cappie/Casey, but then again if they ended up happy together, the show would be over (I'm convinced they are the rachel/ross of this show).

I'm not sure what I think about Evan and Frannie, but Casey's response should be priceless and worth the wait.

Loved the part where Beaver took out suitcases to fit the keg on the bus, so Rusty had no clothes to wear on his trip. And after all that practicing, we never did get to see the boys try out their new fake ids.

Love the show, sad its over for the summer.

BedeliaTV I completely agree with you . I can’t believe that more people do not post for this show. I love it completely it is so mush fun to watch. I am glad that Cappie went back to Rebecca in the end. I like him with Casey more than I like Casey wit Evan but, I think that he and Rebecca really bring out the best in each other. I was so excited to see Calvin and Rusty patch up there friendship. I think that they are so good together. And I have to say that I love Dale. He could have easily become an on dimensional character but the actor and the writer have done a really good job of filling out into a rich and wonderful character. The only thing am sad about is the fact that we have to wait till September for more episodes.

Thanks Sara for all your wonderful recaps. I hope the everyone has a good summer, see you in the Fall!

This episode was definitely interesting! I always wish for more Cappie/Casey interaction, but Cappie needs to get Rebecca out of his system.

I love Dale and his ability to mend the Cal/Russ friendship.

I think Evan and Frannie might work, honestly. And I dunno if this new Casey will freak.

I just felt the need to post after reading the other comments! I always read the recaps/comments but don't usually post here because I don't have much to say.

True, Casey said that she crossed kissing a boy off her list--but I believe the next shot was her list--with no number 11. So, she just said it to give him an easy out. Sad. I do enjoy them together!

I enjoyed everything, but the one thing that bothers me is the credit card thing. I get that it's real and it's going to be a cautionary tale for others in the same boat--but NO ONE in Ashleigh's life is telling her to stop? Not all young adults are that irresponsible! If my friend was acting like that I would have tried to step in more....but, my one critique...

Hey, I'll add my "love this show" to the list and even leave a comment to up the ante.

I think you're all missing the real Cappie/Rebecca point. She was with him mostly to rebel against her parents and their uppercrust lifestyle. Of course she liked that lifestyle (note the private jet to the beach). But now that her parents have been cut down a whole bunch of pegs, Rebecca will need to find someone who can support her in the style to which she has become accustomed. Is that Cappie? Or is it Evan? Hmmmm.

And, as much as I love the show, I was disappointed with this episode, and especially the ending. They built up both of them so much, they just couldn't live up to the hype. And, especially the ending, while cute, was nothing close to a cliffhanger or anything that will "change things forever."

I'm still waiting for someone to let us know when it will return.

There wasnt a number 11 on Casey's list... she made it up. The last one was skinny dipping which she did with Ash later on...

I hoping for her and Cappie... Evan cheated with Rebecca... and now kissing Casey's sorta other best friend. Not a good guy...

Hey for everyone asking when the show will return. I believe during the finale last night, there was an ad for next season saying it would start in September, which I'm stoked about, because I was totally not expecting it back until next March or something. Add me to the list of Greek fans, the show is like lemonade on a hot summer day. One of those very enjoyable shows that you don't have to do a lot of thinking in order to appreciate. Oh, and am I the only one who actually likes Cappie with Rebecca? She's become so much more tolerable since she started dating him, plus I think it's hilarious how all of his brothers can't stand her. Casey had her chance, she chose Evan (who cheated on her), mostly because Evan has his future all planned out, while Cappie is still a mystery. It's understandable, lots of people prefer a safe bet, but just because Evan didn't work out doesn't mean she should start running to Cappie, which she seems to only do whenever he's not available. And after sending Evan away after the whole blackmailing the other guy fiasco, who's willing to bet that when Casey finds out about Evan and Frannie, she'll decide she wants Evan again? Evan and Casey are both too wishy-washy (he didn't want her back until she wanted to date someone else), they kind of deserve each other...

Hi all!
Well, we've been discussing the evil Frannie for weeks now and she finally came through. Interesting that they were both honest about why they were hooking up with each other. One to make Casey jealous and one to get the Chambers name! That's going no where fast! I loved that Cappie went back to Rebecca. It shows how much he's grown. Their whole relationship shows he can care about a girl, not only care about his brothers. She'll dump him eventually and he and Casey will remember that kiss. They are the definitely the Ross/Rachel, as mentioned above. I was half expecting Dale to drive Rusty and Calvin back to "Sinner's Beach" after the make up. I didn't realize we were almost out of time. Love Dale!

Casey made a comment to Rusty that kind of applies to the episode: On why he wasn't having as much fun as he thought he would, she said it was New Year's Eve syndrome. Too much build-up, can't be that fun. (I always call it Prom Syndrome.)

Loved being a part of Greek and the blog this year, and I can't wait until September. This show is truly wonderful. Thanks Sara - you do a great job.

Great show...pretty good episode. I was a little disappointed with the Casey/Cappie hook-up. I feel like Casey is the girl who strings along her ex-boyfriends along and always seems to have one of them waiting in the wings for her. I was really liking the new, more independent, boyfriend-free Casey. It makes me wonder-given how much she hates Rebecca, what was the motive for the kiss? Revenge...maybe just a little? I really like how Cappie softens Rebecca, and would like to see that relationship continue. She is the girl you love to hate, but I think she has some good in her! Frannie and Evan are made for each other!

Catch the last comment by Casey to Ashleigh about soul mates. Her kiss with Cappie made her realize two things. She is a lot more like Cappie then she cares to admit and Cappie is her soul mate. It is why she tells Ashleigh she hopes people have more then one soul mate because she realized Cappie was hers.

Thanks Sara for the great blogs, I also wait with anticipation for them to post. I had no expectations for the finale due to the NYE connection Casey made in the episode, talk it up too much as you'll def be disappointed.

I adore this show. I detested the Cappir/Rebecca coupling but in this episode found myself really wanting him to support her despite her unclear screams for someone to care. I felt horrible for her when she saw Capsie sandcastle building. I loved seeing Casey and Cappie in friend mode and cannot wait to see the fall out from the kiss and the soulmate revelation.

There isn't a lot of Greek info out there so my friend and I have started a podcast for those of the podcast persuasion. For info http://greekspeak.wordpress.com. Long live Greekdom!

As much as i like Casey and Cappie (and alliteration), i do have to admit that i kind of like Cappie with Rebecca... i'm glad he was there for her.

oh - and "kissing a boy on the beach" wasn't on the list... Casey only said that so Cappie wouldn't feel bad about leaving her to go be with Rebecca. She had told him it was #11 on her list, but then we are shown that there are only 10 items.

From someone who has been through college and the greek scene, I have a few things to say. One, I love this show. It is not entirely realistic when it comes to pledging, but it is fun to watch. I am a Casey/Cappie fan, I think Rebecca cares for Cappie but she is just one of those people that will never truly fall in love. She will step on whoever for whatever if it means getting what she wants. Frannie and Evan, a match made in heaven. He wants to get back at Casey and Frannie wants the name Chambers. They both admit they like eachother but there are alterior motives. Season 3 should be good, the writers set it up so they can do whatever they want to do. Bring on the drama, that is what greek life really is about.
