Episode Recap: "Highway to the Discomfort Zone"

Tonight was all about boys. From Rusty bonding with some to Casey looking for a new one to Calvin’s attraction to them, dudes were all up in this episode.

After the KT pledges pranked Omega Chi, the brothers feel they’re ready for their pledge project and pump them up with a visit from a very special alum. Most of the pledge class is down with teamwork, only Rusty isn’t exactly part of the team. In fact he’s been missing out on trips to the Mall of America, nicknames and all sorts of time with the other pledges. “It’s like we’re a boy band and I’m the fat one” he complains to Casey who looks at him sincerely and says, “It’s pronounced Fatone.” ‘N Sync humor always helps a distressing situation.

Casey extends an olive branch to Rebecca who is ready to openly date Cappie. Cappie is ready for a future with Rebecca but wants to talk to Casey about it first (Props on the respectful move, Cappie). Not surprising at all, Casey doesn’t take the news so well. But, nothing helps get your mind off of an ex like playing with puppies…or the hottie who works at the animal shelter. In an attempt to make Cappie jealous/quickly move on, Casey brings Jonah to the date dash. However, things don’t quite work out the way Casey plans: she gets drunk and sleeps with the apparently 16-year-old hottie from the animal shelter (Oh, don’t judge me! He was cute and I bet the actor isn’t actually 16!). Statutory rape, pint of ice cream we all do what we have to do to get over an ex.

Dale is convinced he can cure Calvin of his homosexuality. I don’t know how effective combining prayer, underwear catalogs and a smelly banana peel is but Dale refuses to give up hope. Calvin turns the tables and makes Dale think he might be gay. But just before Dale tosses out his beloved Tim McGraw CD, Calvin reminds him that he can’t turn Dale gay the same way Dale can’t turn him straight.

When the swing-a-ling (The project the pledges don’t put much effort into) doesn’t work out Rusty gets some advice from Cappie’s big brother and creates at a Kappa Tau video game. When the other pledges are annoyed at the lack of teamwork, Rusty talks to them about being a part of the group. In classic fashion the boys work together and come up with a top-notch project—sort of. The brewery produces sludge but the pledges did come together and even invited Rusty along for a pancake run (how sweet).

How do you feel about Cappie and Rebecca? Who wants to see more of Dale? And next week’s trailer—who’s pumped for a frat war?

Man how I love this show!! There really wasn't much pranking shown in this episode which makes me so much more pumped for next week's episode. Personally, I will always be rooting for my Kappa Taus cause face it, they have more fun than the Omega Chis which seems odd considering they are rivals and all. I wonder if the prank war was sanctioned by Evan or not considering he is all about sucking up to the Dean since he is head of the Greek task force and all. Chances are it isn't...guess we will find out next week!! Didn't think Jonah would be 16, poor Casey robbed the cradle..Poor Jonah doesn't seem to be along the right path to growing up & being more mature. I love the brother/sister moments between Casey & Rusty. Glad to see Rusty is bonding with his pledge bros finally even tho he was jealous of the bond they were forming & they were jealous of Rusty being so close with Cappie. But come on tho...the swing a ling....are they for real? We more than likely will get an initiation episode this season

Next week looks excellent from the humor POV. This week however was excellent except for the over the top Dale/ Calvin dynamic. As always, I enjoy Calvin and I would like to see more of him. I don't mind Dale too much but the whole holy roller southern shtick is pretty annoying. Everyone else I enjoyed quite a bit as usual.

Egyptian Joe is finally reveled! I loved him hanging out in his volcano, it kind of reminded me of Lazlo in "Real Genius."

I loved Rusty finally bonding with his fellow pledges and their referencing prior Jen K & Cappie excursions as why he was excluded from the group. The "sling-a-ling" with Beaver was hilarious whose antics and comments are a perfect compliment in the show. His comment echoing one of the pledges sentiments, "You made chicks?" was great. The sledge beer….I think I'd rather have a shot with Spitter. BTW Rusty, "Nice taillights!"? I hope your fellow pledge brothers can help you out.

I maybe in the minority, who knows?, but I for one like Cappie & Rebecca together. I think Cappies comment to Casey, "She likes me for me." also reflects both ways. Cappie likes her for her, not for being the senators daughter. I think the whole 30 hour psychological test last season kick started them and I don't think Casey has anything to do with it other than being the "big sister" and the ex.

Casey, Casey, Casey. Revenge sex is never the answer. When I saw the bedroom set up I was like what the heck? Then the mom rolls with breakfast and Casey's shock then and at the age thing was great. "Can I call you?" " Yeah, in 5 years!"

As much as I'd ultimately like to see Casey and Cappie together (and as much as I hate Rebecca), I was glad to see Cappie stand up for himself to Casey.

Okay, so the first few episodes that introduced the whole Cappie/Rebecca fling had me thinking that they would be short lived and cappie and casey would get back together soon. But this episode changed my mind, it seems like Cap truly cares for Rebecca and vise versa. I have to admit I'm starting to warm up to their relationship, and i think that casey is going to be out of the picture for a while.

p.s. i LOVE EGYPTIAN JOE! lol he was so funny, i hope he's in more episodes. it's fun to see cappie's mentor haha

I love the relationship Rusty has with Cappie. Cappie has taken him in and treats him just as a big brother should, and unfortunately that did exclude Rusty from his pledge brothers. It is nice to see that while he was jealous of their bonding time, they were actually jealous of his close friendship with Cappie, who I think they all really want to impress.

I must say that I give props to Cappie for telling Casey about Rebecca before she found out another way. That would have been way more awkward.

As for the Cappie/Rebecca/Casey triangle, I have a theory...

Cappie truly has feelings for Rebecca, and Rebecca truly does have some feelings for Cappie, but I think deep down Rebecca is doing this to hurt Casey. She wanted so bad to rub it in her face, and she did it multiple times through out the episode. I'm always questioning her motives.

That being said, I do think Casey needs to grow up a little. Everyone thinks Cappie is the immature one, but he is actually very mature in the relationship department. Casey needs to realize that her heart comes first, and that she is in love with Cappie, no matter what her ZBZ sisters may think or say. She told him she still cared about him, and I know he knows this, but I think (and I can't believe I'm saying this) the writers are correct in that Casey and Cappie can't be together just yet.

Casey has to suffer and realize what she put Cappie through after they broke up. It is not fair for her to be allowed to date someone else, but for him not to be able to. I think that by Casey allowing herself to realize that Cappie is her safety net she is making baby steps. She doesn't want to lose him and we all know the two will end up together. Cappie and Rebecca will never last. Partly because I think Cappie's more in to the relationship. I think Rebecca will always be trying to figure out a way to use Cappie to make Casey hurt/mad/etc and Cappie will eventually see that and end things.

As for the Dale/Calvin storyline, I am happy to see them becoming better friends.

And I can't wait for the fraternity battle next week.

Dale cracks me up. That comment about Tim McGraw's jeans being too tight makes the eyes go downward was hilarious! I agree, Cappie and Casey cannot be together just yet, but they are definitely meant to be together.

I loved KT, so I hope they win.

Cappie/Rebecca. I'm not sure about that. I love Cappie/Casey, so this is hard for me. But, I think it's good for both Cappie and Casey. Rebecca and Cappie won't last. Both Casey and Cappie need to grow up before they'll really be ready to get together. :)
