Episode Recap: "47 Hours and 11 Minutes"

Sorry for the recap delay, I was spending some time of my own with parents and friends—very appropriate for this episode. It’s parents weekend at CRU! I was sad the weekend was only for freshman (don’t tell me you’re not dying to see what kind of couple raised Cappie), but the parents that did visit didn’t dissapoint.

Every Greek organization must host an event for parents and the KTs are hosting a barbeque. Everyone wants to “fly the Kappa Tau flag” but Rusty would rather clean up and try and impress his parents...especially because he hasn’t exactly been honest about Kappa Tau. (A service fraternity? Really Rusty? Next time try something remotely close to the truth.) Rusty’s grand plan: distract his parents with loads of academic activities and then they won’t have time to see the house. And when all else fails, you can always lie about building houses in Mexico, right Rusty?

Dale’s parent’s are hilarious. From secret knocks to longing looks at the Confederate flag to sleeping in the dorm, I never stopped laughing. Dale, our little tater tot, seems kind of worn out from all of the bonding (“Let’s go, I’ve got a new pair of Scholls!”) but soon realizes that college is about growing up and becoming you own person…as long as it doesn’t require standing up to your parents!

Rusty’s keep the parents busy plan was actually working until he ran into Beaver, who so conveniently told the Cartwrights about the KT barbeque. In a panic, Rusty drops off his parents at ZBZ, throwing Casey way off guard. But, no time to fret over parents when Senator Logan (Rebecca’s father) walks through the door. Rebecca has no problem bringing dad to her sorority house, but doesn’t want to introduce him to Cappie—who acts cool, but really seems hurt by this news.

Casey argues with her parents because they don’t believe in her (hooray, parents weekend!) but doesn’t have much time to argue because they want to check out Rusty’s “service fraternity.” Casey is a bit surprised when she walks into the Kappa Tau house with her parents but not as surprised as Cappie when Rebecca brings her father over and makes Cappie sound like a total loser. It’s amazing how learning about your father’s affair makes you want to anger him with a dead-beat boyfriend. Cappie is even more hurt than before and wants no part in rebelling against daddy.

The evening is not a total bust, Rusty’s parents totally bought the philanthropy act. But after hearing her parents rave about how perfect Rusty is, Casey has enough and drives back to KT to show her parents what Rusty’s frat is really like. Casey feels badly when Rusty tells her their parents are making him quit KT, though. The two make up over breakfast with their parents without actually apologizing to each other. Casey defends Rusty joining Kappa Tau and Rusty delivers a sermon about how awesome/composed and skilled Casey is and how now he is a man. (So maybe more of a bar mitzvah speech than a sermon?)

In a strange move, Rebecca talks to Ashleigh about what happened with Cappie. And for the first time we see Rebecca has a soul. She tells Cappie about her father’s affair, apologizes and kind of confesses that she truly cares about him. In the end, Rebecca ditches her dad to hang out with Cappie. Looks like things will work out after all. How sweet!

Casey and her mom have a cute mother-daughter moment—Turns out Casey’s not a total failure at life—and she and Rusty end the episode with a cute sibling moment (awwww).

Which parents were your favorite? Who was surprised by Rebecca? Who was proud of Rusty for growing a pair and standing up to his parents?

No problem Sara! It's been one of those weeks already!

I didn't have a particular set of parents I liked or disliked. I thought it was kind of funny how Dale & Rusty acted with their parents around. It was nice to watch how everyone interacted with their parents. I definitely didn't like Rebecca's father. What a douche bag! No wonder Rebecca has issues! It would have been nice to have Calvin parents there but since we got see Calvin's dad previously and there was so much going on…...

Poor Casey. Is she ever going to catch a break? First Evan, then the high school fling and now the parents. At least Casey stood up for her self. First Evan and now the parents! She is on a roll! I hope better things are on the horizon for her.

Rusty. First of all, a maid outfit? Really? I hate the speculate what the other pledges were dressed as! "Mom! Dad! I don't drink!" Best line. Of course holding a tray of Jell-O shots probably doesn't help your statement. Nice to see Rusty give his sister props at the end. His little speech was a take on his original speech to Evan during Rush.

Now onto to my favorites: Cappie and Rebecca. Poor Cappie. He did take the "no meet" dad like a champ. I really liked his reaction to Rebecca when she intro'd Daddy to Cappie. I don't think Rebecca thinks Cappie is a dead beat but she did portray him that way because she knew it would PO her dad. Rebecca's apology to Cappie was sweet and from the heart. We got to see their relationship grow and move in a positive way. Which makes me happy since I definitely like those two together. Rebecca blowing Dad off to hang with Cappie was awesome!

How funny was Rusty when Beaver called him Spitter and came over to the parents during the tour. "Mom, Dad. This is Charles." Then Cappie introducing Beaver. "This is ….." "Hello, I'm Charles." Side note. I can't even remember Beaver real name. I think it was Charles but he'll always be Beaver!

cappie's, "why are you trying to make me look like kevin federline?" comment was just amazing. another reason why this show just cracks me up, it has the ability to incorporate real-life innuendos so well!

I thought Dale's parent's were perfectly cast! They were hilarious with their blow up bed. I loved the look on Rusty's face when he found out they were sleeping over.

I also loved Michael from Melrose Place as Rebecca's dad. The best part was when Cappie was talking to her dad and he mentioned how it's always 20 degrees warmer there than anywhere else in the state and they never have to wear jackets. HA!

It was another good episode. I have to agree that it would have been better if it was parents' weekend for all so we could have seen Cappie's parents.

I knew right after the Senator walked in and saw the blond following him that he was having an affair. When Rebecca asked about the whereabouts of her mother and she was not going to be there, just confirmed the affair angle even more. Not an original idea..a politician having an affair with one of his staff.

I thought this was a great episode. I loved seeing the other side of the Casey, Rusty dynamic. However Cappie and Rebecca stole the show. I loved Cappie's K-Fed line, but It was Rebbeca's response that had me rolling: She all like "he is a upstanding citizen". I love the way this show uses pop culture in the dialogue. It reminds me of Gilmore Girls.
