The Grammys' Best and Worst Moments
Kanye West by Michael Caulfield/ WireImage.com, Amy Winhouse by Kevin Winter/Getty Images
BEST MOMENTS 1) The Beatles Tribute Goosebump city!
2) The Foo Fighters' outdoor concert They rocked so hard, and frankly deserved more kudos than Rock Album of the Year.
3) Tina and Beyoncé Even though Tina looked like a robot, she can move! And Beyoncé was a nice complement.
4) Kanye His cool Tron number and moving tribute to his mama were very cool.
5) Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban I can't believe I just wrote those names together, and under a Best Grammy Moments header... but there's nothing else to talk about!
WORST MOMENTS 1) John Fogerty, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard Sloppy, weird and embarrassing (in no particular order).
2) Alicia Keys and John Mayer Alicia sounded squeaky, and John had the tiniest cameo at the end. What a disappointment.
3) Beyoncé's weird dance/talk intro to Tina Turner What the hell was that?
4) Carrie Underwood Bizarre set decorations clashed with one weird outfit for this overhyped number.
5) Amy Winehouse Talk about sloppy. She looked like she was laughing half the time and reading cue cards, and she sang like crap. It was bizarre.
I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments! Thanks again for reading the blog tonight! — Erin Fox

I can't believe Im about to mention this, but I do an exercise routine to "Proud Mary" from Whats Love Got to do with it movie. It gets my heart pounding for 4 minutes but its worth the excercise. Anyway I like all of your top 5 moments of this years Grammys. But I also liked the Will.I.Am's thingy he did before the Album of the year was presented.
See ya at the Oscars.

I thought Alica Keys opening was a horrible decision. She didn't woo me at all last night during either performance. I thought Amy Winehouse was great! Laughing? For pity sake do you think she could actually KEEP a straight face while singing Rehab at this point?

I thought Amy W. was fantastic. The music, her voice, her movement. They alls seem so retro but completely fresh too. It is such a shame that she is so messed up, but so talented. My husband had never heard of her, and I explained that she is the English equivalent of the mess that has become Britney, but with talent. I thought the best moment was Vince Gill's speech. Asking Kanye if he had ever received an award from a Beatle. Fergie really belted one out too. Who knew?

After waiting all night to see Amy W. perform, I was hugely disappointed! Her voice was clearly off, and her inserting hubby Blake's name throughout her grammy nominated songs was just "bad form". Also what's with suddenly acting coy upon winning (and did she NOT understand that she won?)
I love ya Amy, but ya gotta GO, GO, GO back to rehab!

I have seen Amy Winehouse in concert and that is kind of how she looks all the time. I thought she did a great job all considering. Also, I think smiling during "Rehab" was kind of tongue in cheek. Get it?

Speaking of awards shows...I also watched the BAFTA's last night. I only mention it here b/c I'm surprised tvguide.com isn't covering it anywhere on the website. The Oscar folks should take a cue - no production numbers, short, humorous intros for presenters, and the final award of the night, considered the most prestigious, is not the Best Picture, but the BAFTA equivalent to the Lifetime Achievement Award - which went to Sir Anthony Hopkins.

AMY WINEHOUSE IS THE MOST ANNOYING ( YES MORE THAN MACY GRAY) PERSON IN HISTORY. HOW ANYONE PRODUCES THAT REHAB SONG IS BEYOND MY KNOWLEDGE!!!

BEST:
1, Amy Winehouse: Raw. Audacious. Brazen. Funny. And her vocals, considering the intense pressure AND the fact that, you know, she was in REHAB, wasn't as bad as they could have been. And her reaction upon winning was fantastic and, dare I say it, real.
2. Kanye West: The evening's most intensely emotional performance for his mother...and one of the most entertaining on "Stronger."
3. Alicia Keys/"No One": Personally, I can't stand "No One" and I think Keys is vastly overrated. But I really liked this version.
3. Herbie Hancock & Lang Lang: Gershwin sounded awesome.
4. The Gospel Medley: Despite the open hostility toward gospel music and anything remotely religious, this was one of the greatest highlights of the evening. Aretha, Bebe, the Clark Sisters, and everyone else were absolutely superb.
5. The Beatles Tribute, "Let It Be": Circe du Soliel was rather ho-hum, but "Across the Universe's" reworking of the song was spine-tingling.
WORST
1. Kid Rock
2. TIna Turner: I know, I know, I know: she's the queen, the goddess, whatever. But between that Foghorn Leghorn squawk and the most unflattering costume since Bjork's swan days, TIna looked like a pre-op drag queen late for her post-op consultation. Sorry, kids, I calls them as I sees them.
3. Chris Brown: the lamest attempt at jokes since the last Tyler Perry movie. Or any Tyler Perry movie.
4. Fogerty, Lewis and Richard. Or as I like to call them The Butcher, the Baker and the Candlestick Maker. (You'll figure it out).
5. Herbie Hancock winning Best Album. This year's Marissa Tomei Moment.

DS9Sisko is also on a roll today!
did whiny, over-rated Alicia Keys have laser face resurfacing? her skin looked amazing. and that's new.
overall this show was one big yawn. I must be getting old because I didn't know who half those people were! and was it just me or was Herbie Hancock's big award not actually televised?
for me, Herbie was the night's best simply because the guy is a genius, he's still working, and he's 67 and still a damn good looking guy.

Erin- just went back and read all your blogs. great job! wish I had been here last night.
other thoughts-
WHY is Tom Hanks here? and introducing the Beatles? couldn't they find someone more appropriate and less annoying?
Jason Bateman- TOTALLY random! but he ended up being hysterical, like he was the only real person at the whole gig. and who gives a crap about My Grammy Moment?
I don't get why people think Fergie is hot. I think she looks like Miss Piggy.
Rihanna on the other hand is smoking. love her cute little hair cut and her performance with The Time. whoo! Morris Day! now I know I'm old.

Most Grammy shows are overbloated affairs anyway, lol. The winners are also usually questionable as well.
I sort of agree about Tina not being her best. I hated that outfit she was wearing when it was the black pvc from the 24/7 tour so I wasn't happy to see it in silver. I'd have preferred she did Edith and the Kingpin with Herbie Hancock.
At least you could understand Amy's lyrics this time. Towards the end of her appearances before the crash and burn she was slurring and you couldn't understand anything she was singing. I hope she gets herself together.
I liked Kanye's performance and the appearance of Daft Punk. I also liked Vince Gill's and Usher's quips at Kanye's expense. The guy needs to not take himself so seriously.

A great deal of time was wasted last night. We should've been spared the Fogerty, Little Richard, Jerry Lee medley (sorry Fogerty, I'm a huge fan), Beyonce's intro to Tina, and that silly Will.i.am moment Also Amy W. got too much airtime (don't get me wrong, love the album). Morris Day & The Time? Why? And Alicia Keys is a great young talent, but why did she get to sing twice? They should've had all the Best New Artist nominees perform at least briefly as in previous years.
And if I'm not mistaken, Vince Gill was the only artist up for Best Album not allowed to perform. A little respect for a winner of a total of 19 Grammys, please. Not to mention he had the best, funniest moment with his joking comment to Kanye (who really needs to get his obnoxious ego in check), who to his credit, laughed.
And where was Bruce Springsteen? I hope he was absent by choice and not because he wasn't asked to perform.
Foo Fighters rocked! Enjoyed seeing Tina Turner in such good shape (but again, if she hadn't sang 3 songs, might some newer current artist have gotten to show us what they've got?). Also liked Hancock and Lang Lang(sp)playing Gershwin, the gospel acts, and Fiest(refreshing). I enjoyed Keelie Smith, who was there because of her part in Grammy history - she was sweet and can still sing it!

Excuse me, but what Amy Winehouse performance did you see? Because the one I saw had a healthy woman enjoying her God-given talent. I think she a wonderful job and it was obvious that she was happy to performing. Maybe she didn't sound exactly like her album, but I'm sure that it's just because she wasn't lip-syncing.
