Episode Recap: "All About My Brother"
So many secrets: Eric’s, Asher’s, Jenny’s, Serena’s. And they all came spilling out in one episode.
Let’s start with the biggest OMG moment of the night, which was the very last line Serena uttered: "I killed someone." How and why we don’t know yet. In that video Georgina was blackmailing her with we only got to hear bits and pieces of what went on, and we saw none of it. We know that S didn’t know she was being taped, and we heard Serena’s voice, Georgie’s voice and a guy’s voice (I couldn’t tell if there was a third female voice or not). I’m sure Serena was wasted, and it was something that got out of hand. Way out of hand. And while I’m not glad that Serena helped commit a heinous crime, I am glad that this show followed through when they said Serena did something really bad. Because a threesome, a lesbian affair or something really kinky just wouldn’t have cut it at this point. The old Serena had a reputation for being really wild, so none of those three things are really out of character for the old her. (And none of those are things she couldn’t have told Chuck about.) But an actual crime that resulted in a death – yeah, that’s bad even for the old Serena.
In her time of need, Serena turned to the one person she could: Blair. I love how their friendship has become a cornerstone of this show. It’s so deep and genuine at this point that it’s hard to believe it was in shambles when this show started. It was touching how Serena didn’t want to involve Blair, and how Blair insisted, telling her she loved her and that they were sisters at heart. Serena helped Blair in her time of need a few weeks ago, and though this is a more dire situation, I have no doubt that B will return the favor and do all she can for S.
Blair was actually a good friend to several people last night. After all, she was the one who gave Dan the helpful advice that Gossip Girl was one of the few things of meaning in Jenny’s life. Though Dan refused to eventually team up with Blair, he did get the ball rolling to out Jenny’s new boyfriend Asher. This sounds mean, but Asher was being a jerk to Dan and a liar to Jenny. (And it was good to see Dan play dirty and finally do something that wasn’t one hundred percent moralistic, even if Jenny totally called him out on it.)
So Asher isn’t the perfect boyfriend that Jenny thought he was. Instead, he’s kind of a snobby creep who used Jenny as his cover, and he only told her about this when he was cornered by her and her aggressiveness with him on the couch. As he explained to her, she’s Jenny Humphrey from Brooklyn: "Do you really think someone like me would date someone like you?" And so he was giving her "status, access and resources," in return for her loving girlfriend cover. Oh, and then he instructed her to up the game tell everyone she lost her virginity to him, in order to make the story good. And so then Jenny had some secrets...but they wouldn’t remain secrets for long.
Asher isn’t a character we’ve known that long, so news of him coming out isn’t really news. As many fans predicted, Eric is the character who came of the closet tonight. Not by choice, but thanks to Georgina outing him at his family dinner. And actually, Eric was pretty relieved when all was said and done. He even let Blair send the pictures of him and Asher kissing to Gossip Girl. (Not sending them until she got that permission showed an impressive amount of restraint on Blair’s part. Again, she was being a good friend – this time to Eric.) Perhaps this revelation will lead to more character development for Eric, who up to this point has only been known as Serena’s quiet little brother who once tried to commit suicide.
As for the third part of this Eric-Asher-Jenny triangle: Little J was once again hurt, but she once again had it coming. She was full of herself when talking to Eric, she was again mean to Blair by not inviting her to the party, and then she had the audacity to call Dan jealous when he was just looking out for her (and she dissed his LL Bean pants – that was totally uncalled for.) But she saved her truly obnoxious behavior for Rufus, whom she lied to (again) and completely defied by walking out the door to go to her party. Loved when he said this to her: "You’ve already lost my trust. You want to lose my respect too?" Of course, she really didn’t seem to care about any of that until she got caught lying to her friends, and as one of them explained to her, "Dating a gay guy is an honest mistake. But lying to your girlfriends about sex is unforgivable...You’re branded now. With the L word. Liar." And so J must now go around not with a scarlet A, but a scarlet L.
This led to Jenny going to Blair and admitting defeat. Blair seemed a bit disappointed to lose her feuding partner, but that didn’t stop her from being just as smug as ever, reminding Jenny that she had warned her there would be a price to pay for her ticket to the in crowd. She complimented her on putting up "a good fight...for a freshman," and then followed it up with, "Hope you don’t expect a hug." Love that. Pure Blair.
There was no Jenny-Blair hug, but there was a Jenny-Rufus hug as an utterly defeated Jenny came home and fell apart. And of course, her dad was there for, thanks to Lily’s parenting advice. In turn, Lily called Rufus when she didn’t handle the news of Eric coming out so well. So now they’re pals who give each other advice about child rearing. Only, they’re so much more than that, as evidenced by that scene in which Rufus looked longingly at Lily as she stood in front of the mirror in her wedding gown, and she returned his gaze.
Will Rufus and Lily rekindle things yet again? Is Jenny truly done trying to fit in? And just what are the details of Serena’s murderous crime? Until we find out more next week, remember what’s important in life – the four Gs: Guys, girlfriends and Gossip Girl.

Great episode. I am proud for Dan for stooping so low as to tipping off Gossip Girl. And for GG for developing morals & no longer being used as a ploy in the J & B battle. J did have some nerve tho dissin Dan's jeans & turning on Rufus...she deserved everything that happened to her. Asher is just dumb for making out in front of St. Judes with Eric. What about Nelly Yuki or whatever her name is....I guess she is permanently a member of Blair's clique now. I actually have no problem with that. The S shocker would have been more of a shocker if they just cut it after her saying she killed someone but instead they played some weird music for like 6 seconds or so which just thru me off & destroyed the shock factor. I love that Lily & Rufus still have their friendship. On to G or Sara or whatever else she wants to be known as...that girl is wicked!!!I will give it to her she is smart tho...getting in with Dan & Vanessa....then showing up out of the blue. Crashing the family dinner tho...damn she is wrong!! Oh yeah Lil J conversation with Eric...what is wrong with her? They used to be good friends & she just treated him so wrong then...some nerve. Anyway, pretty sure I am forgetting something...great episode...next week ought to be awesome!!!

I was pleasantly suprised and enjoyed this episode even WITHOUT Chuck or Nate ( ...Im sorry but I can't ever forgive the writers for this. Are they delusional?? Do they not understand that Chuck is a fanfavourite?)
Dan--)acting like Mr. Moral judgement again...yawn. I was pissed that he left Serena alone to get a taxi herself. Penn wants to "dirty" his character up...I say stop it cause you never gonna be as well liked as Chuck's character
Eric--) I think he's become one of my favourite characters after Chuck and Blair now. LOVE HIM!!
Serena--) meh. Liked her better than the last episode because it did NOT feel like she was overtaking the whole episode but she's never gonna be a favourite character of mine
Blair--) Awesome as usual. Leighton Meester can never go wrong! Happy that Blair kicked Jenny's ass!
Georgina--)I'm sorry but she's the lamest character ever. YAWN. Blair's way more badass than Georgina.
What I'm guessing about the killing thing is that either 1) The guy was on way too many drugs and basically killed himself 2) Maybe the guy was agressive adn Serena was trying to protect herself.
Seriously, though teh most OMFG moment was the PROMO for NEXT WEEK! FINALLY...the HUGE CB fanbase will finally have something to look forward to!. We get some CB scenes and BCN scenes...I CAN'T WAIT!!

I liked this episode, but I can't say I loved it since my favorite character Chuck was not there.
Please no more Chuckless episode!

I have a question - when Serena was watching the video that Georgina sent, there was a verbal reference on it to "the new Mr. and Mrs." Someone. Did anyone else catch that? Additionally, doesn't S realize that if it obviously says on the video that S didn't know it was there - and was obviously very much under age and chemically impaired to boot - would be more favorable to her in a court of law, if indeed she did harm someone? Frankly, I don't think she did anything - I believe it was G.

I LOVED this episode. Everything about it was just fantastic. And I'm sorry karaleefan, but I think Georgina is a great character! She's way more mean and ruthless than Blair. For all her faults, Blair actually has a heart and I don't see that Georgina does yet. I know that Chuck is a fan favorite but the storyline right now is about Serena's dirty little secret, so he's not going to be in every episode. At least they're not doing like some shows do and go through the whole episode without mentioning his name. I was a little surprised at how dumb Dan was being with Serena- defending "Sarah", a girl he barely knows. I understand he's frustrated by how Serena is being lately, but I still found that a little hard to believe. And Jenny, that shows how some kids do really dumb things to be popular. I liked how Rufus handled the whole situation, and how Lily handled things with Eric.
Can't wait until next week! I do think the "I killed someone" involves drugs or Serena having to defend herself.

In the video someone said "mr. and mrs. shepard" and then a guy said are you sure she won't mind this, and georgie said, oh no it's just serena's thing, and then she said no it's hot, its too hot. It had to be self defense, or something like that. Serena was def. f ***ed up... I don't think i've ever wanted to know what happens in a show so badly. Can't wait until next week.

I have to say I was glad to see Little J get her comeuppance. And Rufus has way more patience than I do, because I would've made her life a living He** -- even if it meant taking her to and from school, every extracurricular activity etc. (He must have the time, he never seems to work!)instead of just waiting for her to come back to him.
Loved the Lily/Rufus interaction. And 4 times! Did we know that Lily was going on her fourth marriage?! If I did I forgot.
And I totally cannot wait for next week! I watched the preview three times!

Great show tonight!! But no Chuck! which means no Chuck and Blair scenes..I have to tell you, I am really proud of Rufus and sticking to his guns about Jenny. I have to say, while it's been fun seeing the "evil" side of Jenny, I hope the sweet Jenny comes back. I was beginning to not be able to stand that girl. I don't understand why she would even want to be friends with those snotty girls.
I love Dan and Serena, but they just don't go good together. They never talk to each other about real issues or discuss what's going on in each other's life. I think they are better off as friends.
I can not wait to see what the story is on Serena and "the murder". Here's my thoughts on that situation,,I am thinking that Serena, Georgiana, and some guy were involved in some type of kinky threesome and Serena decided not to go through with it and the guy wouldn't take no for a answer and somehow she ends up killing him accidentally and Georgiana has it all on film. What do you all think??

I think Serena didn't want her boyfriend Dan to see her (inadvertent) sex tape. To hear about Serena's wild past and to see it on tape are two separate issues. Maybe there is something else on the tape--an accidental overdose or alcoholic poisoning perhaps--or it could be something like vehicular homicide while Serena was loaded. In last week's episode, Serena told Georgina 'if I go down, you go down' so maybe there'll be some follow-thru soon. I don't like Serena being threatened by that smug tart. Oooh, and I want Dan to suffer when he finds out that Georgina/Sarah is playing him. Sweet that Blair wouldn't cause BFF's Serena's little brother any grief by sending the goods on Asher to Gossip Girl but how great was it that 14-year-old Eric had the most backbone and told her to do it after Asher called him a fag. And that Eric would out himself at a party to make sure the lies didn't go any further. And I enjoyed the wedding gown scene between Lily and Rufus (now that's romantic longing) but really, it's her fourth marriage, you think she could tone it down just a tad.

I agree with britlong. I think it was some kind of kinky sex act and some one got choked or something. Weird wild stuff!
I think we might see Lily and Rufus get together soon. Mr. Bass will freak out about Eric and call everything off. That's my theory.
Serena? Wow! She has a lot of stuff on her and she is going down fast.

Loved this episode.
Jenny: There is really nothing that can done to make me like her character. She was never sweet and endearing.
Rufus and Lilly: Love them!!!
Blair: She is great. She is good at being bad (like she said there is a price to pay) and being a good friend.
Serena: I like that they have her killing someone it explains why she is such a punk when it comes to Georgina. I like Georgina, I hated the actress on Buffy but she is bringing the pain on GG.
Dan: How dare he leave his girfriend on the side of the road for a girl her barely knows. Regardless of him being upset with Serena's recent actions, she is telling him that she has issues with her new friend and asking him to be careful and he blows her off and embrasses her in front of Vanessa and Sara/Georgina.
Glad we get some Chuck next week. I love him!!!!!!

Don't like Jenny. Never did. She justs has the evil eye look about her and I can't stand the "looks."
I made a comment out loud last night about Dan leaving Serena alone on the streets. WTF? Nice guy (<--sarcasm)
Loved the scene with Lily and Rufus when she was trying on the gown. Jeez, Rufus looked soooo sad. The look on his face said EVERYTHING. Wow, it really broke my heart.
and Lily wearing a WHITE dress on her 4th marriage? I think not.
Lastly, I don't know if I'm too old or what (I'm 35) but man, those girls dress HORRIBLE. That is some ugly fashion. It's like they're trying to do an updated fun, 80's look, but it's not working. I actually find it distracting sometimes.

allsummersingle, it's not just you! I'm 25 and I think the outfits that some of them wear (by far Jenny is the worst) look absolutely ridiculous. I know NY's a far different place than my rural PA town, but still. I find it distracting as well. I do like how Serene dresses though.
