Episode Recap: "The WeHo Ho"
Before we start tonight, congrats are in order. Emmy nominations were announced this week and in addition to Entourage's nomination for best comedy, Jeremy Piven and Kevin Dillon were nominated in the best-supporting-actor category. Way to go, boys!
Tonight’s episode left me kind of cold as, once again, Turtle and Drama went off to deal with some nonsensical situation. This time it involved Turtle's cousin Ronnie and a sports auction, and Eric and Vince disagreed over Vince’s next project. For all the Billy Walsh haters (I am quickly becoming one of them, by the way), it looks like he will be sticking around to direct Vince’s next film, though Eric is taking a pass on the producing gig. I do need someone to explain to me how to differentiate between Eric the producer from Eric the manager.
While Eric and Vince tended to their oddly interdependent relationship, Ari tried to help Lloyd mend his broken heart. Naturally, being Ari, his motivations were purely selfish and his solution involved lies and subterfuge, but he did save the day covering for Lloyd’s indiscretion and returning Lloyd to his assistant duties. While the entire story line was a humorous diversion, it certainaly didn't seem very organic to Ari's character. A high-powered agent so desperate to keep his assistant happy that he will play matchmaker in a sneaker store? I doubt it.
So far for me, this season has been disappointing. In the first few years, I remember frequently laughing out loud during episodes and enjoying the fresh take on the life of a Hollywood up-and-comer. These days, the show seems to be so mired in the details of the deal-making that we are getting away from all the fun. Strawberry pancake waffles surely can't be the only highlight in the life of a hot young actor, can they? What happened to the clubbing, the trips to the Playboy mansion and the dalliances with the Mandy Moores of the world? I really hope the show returns to form soon, but in the meantime, it still provides an entertaining alternative to summertime network programming.

Sorry Trish but I disagree with many of your comments.
First off - the comment about A high-powered agent so desperate to keep his assistant happy that he will play matchmaker in a sneaker store? I doubt it.
Ari was not doing this to keep Lloyd happy - he was doing this as a selfish (typical) act so that he did not have to endure the mistakes of a new assistant. This IS typical Ari! He cares very little about anything until it affects him!
As for the Turtle/Drama incident. It was a bit weak but I can handle these guys doing anything - Johnny Drama and Ari make this series!
As for Walsh - I don't mind Billy Walsh as long as we get a little Dana Gordon thrown in. Could there be a Dana Gordon/Billy Walsh romance in the future? Sounds disturbing to me!

I love the further development of the Ari/Lloyd dynamic. We saw how important Lloyd is to Ari when he stopped him from "going the distance" with that screenwriter (or whatever) that Ari wanted to sign, and now Ari just got Lloyd back together with his boyfriend in order to get Lloyd back to work. Because no one can work with Ari and Ari doesn't want to work with anyone else.
I disagree that all of Ari's motives vis a vis Lloyd are selfish. Not completely. He'd like to pretend he's just a selfish, shallow industry man, but he's got a symbiotic relationship with Ari that goes back a couple of seasons now. As Ari realized "I NEED LLOYD!" No one else can work with Ari and no one else can anticipate what Ari needs more than Lloyd. It's about time we've seen more Ari being more than a demanding boss to Lloyd. Lloyd left that other agency when Ari walked out- Ari owes Lloyd A LOT and it's only coming to fruition that they have a real friendship. I think that is awesome, and very satisfying. They can't be cardboard cutouts for the duration of the series! I welcome more Ari-Lloyd out of the office action, boo-yeah!

I enjoy the whole Ari-Lloyd dynamic. Ari had a couple great lines that made me laugh out loud. Also, did anyone notice Ari kept the sneakers that he had tried on at the Finish Line? Haha. I hope I don't see Ari wearing those anytime soon. It was nice to see Ari stick up for Lloyd, even if Lloyd "can't keep it in his pants".
Anyways, I am excited for the future of this show, how the film does at Cannes, who is right between Vince or E on whether the movie is good or not, and how that will play out into this next movie.
The good news is, Vince has 2 million dollars now to go blow, so now he isn't broke for too long.

This was my least favorite episode of the season so far. Not much going on. On a side note, I did finally receive my Medellin shirt in the mail that I ordered. www.apparelparade.com

The Ari-Lloyd working relationship/friendship is one of the best things about this show. Ari's attempts to salvage Lloyd's relationship were partially selfish, but also go to show that he cares about Lloyd, whether or not he wants to admit it. Not very many people would put up with a boss like Ari, and he knows it. Likewise, even if Ari doesn't necessarily endorse Lloyd's lifestyle, he accepts him for who he is anyway and treats him (somewhat) respectfully. They are a terrific team. I'm beginning to feel about Billy the way E does. Just want to punch him in the head. Looks like next week will be Billy-free and lots of fun.

I love Entourage, and the characters are played so well. Ari is a fabulous character, and his relationship with Lloyd is more significant (it seems) then his relationship with his wife. That is NOT unusual, think about how many dynamic bosses are totally lost without their secretaries. (my bad!, Assistants !) I remember my father, who was owner and the creative boss of his firm saying that if their "executive assistant" were to leave the whole business would go down into the toilet. She actually was the one who knew everything, pulled their butts out of bad situations, and smoothed over rough patches. Ari has finally found an excellent assistant, he would be nuts not to do everything he can to keep Lloyd happy, and working. Is that selfish, no, just realistic.
