Episode Recap: "Gary's Desk"

This season has been a real roller-coaster ride in terms of quality, but tonight’s episode was most definitely a high point in my book. First, we had Gary Busey using Johnny Drama as his body art canvas. Next, Mary J. Blige stopped in for her annual Make-Me-Understand-What-I-Pay-You-For meeting. And finally, Peter Jackson offered Eric a glimpse of legitimacy as Vince’s representation. All of these storylines were funny and entertaining and reminiscent of what I’ve always liked best about this show — how these four childhood friends navigate the ins and outs of Hollywood.

I don’t know if Gary Busey is as crazy as his public persona would have you believe, but he was pure lunacy tonight as he introduced Drama to the high art of body painting. Meanwhile, Ari prepped for his meeting with Mary J. Blige while mediating the sibling rivalry between identical twin agents. (Naturally, Mary J. was the only one who could tell which was which, and she happened to like the one Ari fired.) And then out of the blue we got a glimpse of our favorite long-lost publicist, Shauna, who set Eric up with a coming-out article that ended up exposing the evils of nepotism among friends in LaLa Land. In just one quick scene, Debi Mazar reminded me how much I miss her as Vince’s foul-mouthed marketing maven. Let’s please see more of her next season!

In the end, Vince and the boys did manage to snag Mickey Rooney’s former desk (with Turtle noting, “That’s ironic. We want it so another small Irishman can sit at it.”) and in the process set up a slightly more upscale shop for The Murphy Group. When Vince, Drama and Turtle have your back, who could ask for better associates?

I agree that it was good to see Shauna again...but didn't she have a GIRL the last time we saw her? I remember her telling the nanny not to let HER take a nap so that SHE wouldn't keep Shauna up all night. And now she has a son....

Hmm.

Oooohh, ADunn524, I think I remember that too. How could they have let that slip?!

My fave 2 moments of the episode were Ari and E's conversation about what E actually does. Ari really got him with the you are a ventriloquist in a dummy's body. LOL!!!! And the whole sibling rivalry plot. When the one attacked the other across the conference room table, I was on the floor. Loved it! Great laughs last night.

Don't forget to mention Randy and Jason Sklar from ESPN's Cheap Seats as the twin agents! They are truly hilarious!

I thought that the best part of the episode was the fact that Eric was trying to do everything right - sperate work from home, advertise his new business and get a small office that he could afford. Instead he ends up surrounded by the usual suspects, in an illaborate office with a trashy article about him instead of a simple add. This is not the funny part, the funny part is that everything wrong that happened to Eric worked out right!

Only in Hollywood.

I agree with the inconsistencies with Shauna's baby. Similar problem with the fact that Ari never had a son until a few episodes ago. I think that's a glaring mistake that I'm surprised the writers would make.

Does it really matter about the kids - I didn't notice and don't care.

I am more interested in knowing Turtle's real first and last name along with Ari's wifes name!

Busey was good, but once again Ari stole the show. Ari is to firing people what Bonds is to steroids. Well connected. I just bought my girlfriend a I Heart Ari Gold shirt at this website for her bachelorette party. They had a ton of Entourage shirts I'd never seen before but my budget is kinda tight.

Ari has always had a son and there were a couple of episodes in previous seasons that he was mentioned. For example, in the last episode featuring Gary Busey, Ari had to leave the son's birthday party when he heard that a rival agent was trying to talk to Vince.

According to the print edition of TV Guide, Ari originally had 3 kids and, for whatever reason, now he only has 2 (they joked that maybe the eldest was shipped off to boarding school for being the only one with blonde hair and blue eyes).

This show, by far, is one of the best on TV. Every character is wonderful. I like how Vince seems to be carefree, but really does have a handle on his career. Now about Gary Busey - can anyone be that good of an actor? I think he's a bit odd in real life. As for Shauna - I was so happy to see her, hopefully her maternaty leave is over.
