April 29, 2007: You Got Got!
I hope you will all forgive me if I digress from the usual commentary for one moment to make an important, albeit prurient, observation. Jeremy Piven should definitely lose the shirt more often. Underneath those fitted suits and trendy ties, the guy’s sporting some serious bod.
Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled, G-rated blogging.
I have decided how I am going to make my fortune and I hope you will all support me in my endeavor. I am going to self-publish a book of wisdom from the one and only Johnny Drama. I know it has best-seller potential. From tonight’s episode alone, Johnny taught us that in families, if one person hates someone, everyone has to. We also learned that the universe can be extremely vindictive in the face of success.
Thinking that he was in on the joke with the Pauly Shore hidden-camera show, Drama’s verbal assault on Ultimate Fighting Champion Chuck Liddell was full of bravado and death-defying fearlessness. (Who else but Drama would threaten to rip someone’s foot off?) Moments later, he was accosted by a pack of cookie-crazed Girl Scouts and assumed that the prank was complete. While I had a suspicion that we would see Drama’s nemesis again before the night was through, the escalating terror of the self-proclaimed “Henry Hill” was a sight to behold. Kevin Dillon is amazingly entertaining as the elder Chase brother. He is one of the reasons I keep coming back week after week since I’m not really feeling the rest of the show right now. I’m not sure if it is Vince and Ari’s estrangement or what, but I do feel like something is off in these most recent episodes.
OK, so if my book doesn’t fly, my next plan is to go into stamp collecting. Who knew how lucrative that field could be? It was fun to get a little glimpse of Ari outside of the office sharing some quality time with Mrs. Ari (Perrey Reeves) and his visiting frat brother Scott (Artie Lange). While I did think it was a bit of a stretch that Ari would have gotten so jealous over his friend’s good fortune, it is always fun to watch Jeremy Piven react to outlandish situations. The guy just has spot-on comedic timing.
Finally, I’m going to give props tonight to Adrian Grenier. Thanks to the actor’s canny portrayal, I absolutely believe that this millionaire movie star walks around without a key to his own house and doesn’t drive or know how to check voice mail. The character is dumb like a fox and the actor yields guileless charm like a weapon, always getting what he wants by seeming as though he doesn’t realize what he is doing. It takes a special kind of talent to play someone so manipulative and still keep them likable and relatable, and Grenier has nailed it. Not to make a too off-color leap here, but just look at his relationship with Amanda. However, it does remain to be seen who is really playing whom. Meanwhile, Eric sits by and quietly stews as he waits for the other shoe to drop. Amanda summed it up nicely in the bathtub with Vince when she noted, “You boys have a strange relationship.” Oh, Amanda, you have no idea. You better watch out, because like Drama says, if you mess with one, you mess with all.

I'm sorry, but if there ever was an episode that felt like a filler it was this one, the Ari storyline felt like it was from a totally different season and while I love Artie Lange, he bought nothing representative of his comedic style other than the fact he was chubby. The Johnny Drama stuff?, too easy and the punchline could be seen a mile away, first forgettable episode of this fractured season.

I don't know. I liked the episode. I really like seeing more of Ari's relationship with his wife. This episode really proved to me that there is no way that Ari would cheat on his wife and that they really are great together. I do have to agree with the blogger about Jeremy Piven's body...big surprise but very nice.
I was laughing hysterically when Vince said that he didn't know how to check his voicemail, completelyl pathetic but oh so believable.

I was a little disappointed in this episode. I thought it didn't really do much. You have to love Drama though. As for Artie Lange - he looked like he finally took a bath! I thought it was him and had to make sure that I read the credits at the end! As for JP - very nice towel scene

Any episode with lots of Ari is a good episode. Just his facial expressions alone in this episode had me cracking up. And I could totally buy Ari being jealous over his friend. Probably one of the reasons they had been friends so long was because Ari felt no competition from him until now.
I also agree about Adrian's performance. Great job.

An episode heavy with Drama and Ari is fine with me! I was laughing hysterically during the Drama storyline. No matter how preposterous, Kevin Dillon's facial expressions and reactions are priceless!!
Yes, Jeremy Piven without his shirt...nice...
I still consider Vince to be my least favorite character on the show.

Oh Jeremy Piven need never wear a shirt again!!!!
I loved the part where Eric went to the bathroom and the kids just kept cutting in front of him. When are Ari and Vince getting back together already. They're dragging this out too long. I miss them!

Definitely a weaker episode. The Drama thing was fairly predictable, and he does annoy me sometimes. The Ari stuff was funny (anything with him cannot be unfunny) but fell a bit flat. It was good, though, to see the interaction between him and Mrs. Ari. It's often hard to see her attraction to him, but this episode helped to make it more believable. The Amanda plot was also predictable, and I'm hoping that Vince's "episode" with her, coupled with the sudden availablity of Medeillin, will get him back to Ari, once again making the universe right.

I HATE Vince's new agent. She is ruining this show - seriously. Part of the charm behind "Entourage" has always been Ari's relationship with the boys. Ari's scenes aren't the same without the boys and vice versa. I hope the producers wise up and get rid of this agent and put our entire crew back together soon...

I'm sure that Amanda will be fired soon. In fact, I thought that Eric was going to fire her after he found out that she slept with Vince...The Johnny Drama story line was very predictable and mostly unfunny...I agree that Vince is a dimly lit light bulb and probably the worst character on the show. However, I will not say that Adrien Griener has done a great job acting, b/c the character has NO substance; all he does is shrug his shoulders or say, "okay."
What has been more disappointing this season - Sopranos or Entourage? HBO is in a slump right now.

I LOVED this episode. Before reading these comments I assumed that everyone would love this! Go figure!
Anyway - to me this episode had everything I need. Good Johnny Drama comedy! He is the heart and sole of the show along with Ari, and this episode had both!
Anyway - great blog Trish!

Ranger99 - I agree with you. I love Johnny Drama! If it weren't for him and Ari, I'm not sure I'd care about the show. I almost bailed after the 1st season, but I thought the 2nd season it hit its stride and made me laugh out loud a lot.
alexpkeaton - Although I disagree with you about Drama, I totally agree about Vince. There's nothing about his character that I find compelling or interesting, and I don't buy him being this hot up-and-coming young actor.

Well, it's really hard to top last week's episode, but this one was really good. Jeremy Piven...uh, yum. Looking at him and his wife, I start to believe in monogamy. The way he pushed her up against the wall...
You Got Got, who didn't see that coming after the first two minutes? I don't know, Johnny Drama has always bugged me. I just want to punch the guy.
...always getting what he wants by seeming as though he doesn’t realize what he is doing.

The worst episode yet of a weak, weak season so far. Very disappointing. Just as the show has really taken off in the cultural zeitgeist - an Entourage clothing label? hello? - the show has gone completely off the boil.
Amanda is a huge problem. Love Carla, hate this strident, annoying character. Don't believe she would have slept with Vince - completely inconsistent with how she was presented to us in the first two episodes. Everyone wants Ari and the boys together again, sparking off each other. The Amanda thing is just a dull storyline, I'm afraid.
This weeek's plot was dire. Everyone and his dog saw the "You Got Got" punchline coming. And Ari's friend with the hot new fiancee? That joke was old when Jeremy Piven's hairpiece was just a kitten. Does anyone buy that Ari is insecure about how he is providing for Mrs Ari?
They're just treading water right now, going through the motions. The writing - occassional, classic one-liners aside - is letting down the cast.
