Episode Recap: “The Nutcracker”

I’m not sure how many more eps of Dirty Sexy Money are in the can, but I am worried we are going to get stuck in the middle of a serious cliff hangar.

I suspected when Tripp got on the phone and told the person on the line to find out what Simon wanted with the Darling’s financials, that it was Karen. But I wasn’t really sure until the last scene. So, if she’s getting busy with Simon for her Dad, then what are her reasons? Is it just to get Nick? Walking into the Nutcracker crying certainly got his attention. Though I think Tripp’s reasons are far more business related. And there’s some question as to whether Tripp isn’t using Nick to make it seem though he’s protecting Karen from Simon.

And speaking of which, Simon inviting Karen over to meet his ex was a little mean; he could have warned her at least. Because if he is just using her, then why did he want to get approval from his ex, unless…. Could the Princess be in cahoots with him against the Darlings? I’d heard Gina Torres was joining the cast as Simon’s former wife and it was a great thrill to see her with that crazy accent. I remember her from Serenity and Angel when she was kicking aspen and taking names. When Karen returned to the house, holding back tears, she looked absolutely stunning. So take that Simon Elder.

Lisa barely knows any of the Darlings and yet her relationship with Jeremy feels like they’re old friends. I loved when they were lying on the couch in the gallery all hopped up on marijuana and chillaxed and having a heart to heart. Then he sat in her lap. You just knew Jeremy was going to kiss her. And she didn’t exactly stop him, though she managed to pull herself together enough to make him stop after the first one.

Jeremy finally came clean and told the truth to Sofia who didn’t take it as well as he might have hoped. He’s suffered at the hands of “these love-pirates.” And now he may have lost Sofia as well.

Poor Carmelita, do you know how hard it is to get nail polish out of a cream colored carpet? What happened to her? Who kidnapped her? With the way Patrick was acting, I would have sworn he set something up with Clark. “They managed to elude the ficus.” Patrick was so nonchalant when he sniffed her scarf and said, “She’s gone.” He’d have been a heck of a lot more torn up if she was really gone. Maybe he got her out of there so he could save face with Ellen.

Lisa practically suffocated Nick with tears of gratitude when he suggested she have a baby now that she’d lost her job. Does she really not care about her career? I mean she was this close to selling a giant blue Berlin sponge. Well, the career didn’t work out honey, but good news, you can just have another kid and everything will be all right. Not to mention that Nick tossed that idea out like he was asking if she wanted a new car.

We were graced with another moment of humility from Brian; the range on that guy, holy smokes. I found it a little strange that Tish bathed his feet as they were talking about his relationship to God. Mary Magdelene did the same for Jesus on his road to the crucifixion. I don’t know very many mothers that would wash their grown sons' feet, but then I don’t know very many mothers who head up families worth 35 billion smackaroos, either. He was sweet to her. I feel like he turned a corner in this show, but I hope he’s not going to be completely nice; he plays nasty so well. He did look fine in that black suit. And I hope it made Tripp proud to have one of his children, (or not exactly one of his children,) finally become part of the family business.

Thank goodness for Juliet, it was a real pleasure to see her again after her almost nonexistent story line for the past few weeks, (can you say, ‘Rehab’?) I for one am happy she’s back. And the love affair with the guy she met on Karen’s honeymoon in the Seychelles was just what she needed. I pray he’s not just seeing her because of the Darling name. Someone in that family deserves a little happiness. She’s going to give it all away to him, let’s hope he’s on the up and up.

Next week they are re-airing the pilot, so check out the Online Video Guide for great Dirty Sexy moments.

Another great ep. Karen and Brian continue to impress and Jeremy has really grown on me - "chillax":-D
I have actually liked Lisa the last two episodes, thanks to her interaction with Jeremy. It is worrisome for the future of that TV marriage that both Nick and Lisa are more likable and interesting when paired with Karen and Jeremy. I think Jeremy will stupidly pursue Lisa now that car lady gave him the heave-ho. She may not take the bait, but it will surely cause some misunderstandings and trouble in her marriage.

I thought Karen was so upset because she was either worried that Simon was going too fast too soon or that for the first time she really felt something for someone other than Nick. I was actually leaning more towards the first one. But- I had no clue that she was in cahoots with her dad! Now it looks like she's starting to have feelings for Simon and is feeling bad about deceiving him. I actually can't stand Simon Elder so I hope they crush him soon. I love everything else about the show, but when he comes on I could care less.

One little nitpick about the show- normally I love Gina Torres but that accent she had going was horrendous. I deal with people from Ghana on a daily basis and I've never heard anyone talk with that accent. It was a cross between French and something made up, IMO. Maybe that is the accent royalty has- since I don't deal with royalty- I don't know. But it was so bad that I'll most likely have to ff her scenes, which would be a shame because I really enjoyed her on Firefly, Angel & Alias.

I was a little appalled that Tripp would "pimp" out his daughter to Simon Elder. Kind of turned my stomach.

But otherwise another excellent episode.

I enjoyed the episode very much again, though there were a few odd moments. The foot bathing thing was strange. I definitely thought of the religious slant to it, but at the same time I thought it was just odd watching a grown man complain about his life while his mother washed his feet.

Brian cracked me up while talking to his "boss" (for lack of a better term right now.) He was so dry in his comments "ten long years" & others. I liked his scenes with Tripp and am kind of psyched that now that he has chosen the company as his path, there should be quite a bit more. I think the two of them are the best actors on the show. The only thing I do not get is that in his initial anger (I guess we know it had been two weeks,) he seemed more irritated at Tripp than his mother. She was the one who kept it from him for years and years after all.

I actually did not see the Karen twist coming. I think she may have used a few crocodile tears to rile Nick up a bit. I am not sure though. She seemed a bit hesitant when Tripp said he hoped she was not developing feelings. I like how this show keeps ya guessing.

Though I think of Tripp as a definite force to be reckoned with, I just cannot shake the feeling that Simon Elder always seems to be one step ahead. Again, I guess time will tell.

Great recap Paula. You brought back the funniest moments for me.

I think Karen mite be developin sum feelings for Simon. It was odd that he brought his ex to meet her and didnt tell her. I think Simon & Karen are usin each other but there maybe sum underlying feelings on both parts.

I dunno how I feel about the actress who plays Lisa. I think out of all the amazing actors on the show, she's the least that I like. Even Juliet pops in and out for 5 seconds but theres sumthin likeable about her. I guess Lisa cant be mad at Nick lettin Karen kiss him bcuz she did the same thing. And I agree that she didnt neccesarily push Jer away ;)

I didnt like how nick suggested havin a baby. It was kinda like..hey u wanna go grab sum coffee lol?! Theres gotta be a better way to say sumthin as monumental as havin a child. But she loved it so I guess it didnt matter to her. I dont think I liked the..u aint got no job so have me sum babies either. Mayb thats just my filter of it tho.

Brian is one handsome guy. I hope he doesnt regret his choice to join the fam business. I agree that Brian & Tripp are the strongest actors on the show along with Nick. Just talented cast overall:)

I'm gonna miss the show next week:(

Pretty good episode. I'm disliking Simon more & more. And I don't get what Tripp is up to using Karen. I think that Nick's offer had to do with him feeling jealous over Karen & Simon and wanting to repress that by having a baby.
Brian is probably my favorite character. He's the most real. I also agree that Patrick had somthing to do with Carmalita's disappearance.

BTW-Mary Magdalene didn't wash Jesus' feet. Mary, of Mary & Martha, did once and a prostitute did as well. Jesus washed his disciple's feet the night he was betrayed.

Again this show is so freaking cool. I just love everyone....Especially tonight, Brian and Trip. THose were some golden scenes. Not caring too much about Simon and Karen. Loved Jeremy and Lisa.

But Brian and Trip were wonderful.

...I almost didn't watch this episode; don't know why but I had this idea that there'd be no new episode!, and turned the tv on in hopes of ABC airing a repeat...I thought that Lisa and Jeremy looked a lot alike; IMO they look more like twins than Jeremy and Juliet and I think he will fall in love with Lisa; he had this look on his face, just before he kissed her...and I believe Brian will be the one to expand the empire, not just to keep it...genniel: I am with you! I hate Simon Elder; either he makes his move soon or Tripp should just crush him, pronto; Karen might have been scared because she realized she could start feeling something for Simon, but I hope she is the one to bring him down...by the way, Donald Sutherland is one of the few men in this world who can carry a pink shirt, I think; man, he looked handsome with the pink shirt, pink tie and red suspenders...

Just to clarify: Mary Magdeline was the prostitute who washed Jesus' feet with her tears and dried them with her hair.

Brian is the BEST and my most favorite character. I believe everything he says and feel everything he feels. He's such a fantastic actor.

I also believe that Patrick had Carmelita taken away, so that his wife thinks she's gone but he can still be with her.

I adore Karen, I new immediately that it was her Tripp was talking to on the phone and loved that scene at the Nutcracker. I think that she was crying because she knows she is playing Simon for her dad and now he got approval from his ex to be with her. She's feeling guilty because she likes him and feels that he likes her and she will have to eventually destroy him for Tripp.

Another great episode, I just love this show!

I believe it WAS Mary Magdalene that washed the feet of Jesus.

Sadly, there's only one episode of DSM left in the can.

Brian gets more interesting and complex every week. Love him!

I think Lisa cares more about her marriage than her career, and she was so weepy because she felt like Nick's idea of having another child was a signal that their marriage was more solid than she thought.

Word of the day... CHILLAX!

Bible time: Although many Biblical scholars, theologians, etc. believe that the prostitute who washed Jesus' feet was Mary Magdalene, that is not actually made specific. It could be someone else.

DSM time: I don't think Karen was specifically manipulating Nick when she started crying. I don't think she's really falling for Simon, either, but I think that she is sort of hating the mind games she has to play. Tripp and Karen can both be very loving, but they are both incredibly ruthless, too. What's interesting to me is that they have not told Nick what Karen is doing, and it would seem natural to have him in on it. Is that only so that his interaction with Simon will be more natural, so he can continue spying for Tripp? Or do Karen and Tripp distrust Nick?

Lisa is so much more interesting with Jeremy! I hope that storyline keeps going. And yeah, the babymaking experiment is NOT going to save that marriage.

LOVE THIS SHOW.

Who says' Tripp is pimping Karen out. How do we know she didn't come to him and offer to help? Either way, she's a grown woman who can make her own decisions. Tripp has a soft spot for her obviously considering he keeps paying for lavish weddings so I doubt he has any intention of her getting hurt.

I also thought Simon bringing in his ex was extremely odd.

I need to rewatch the Carmelita parts. I assumed she "kidnapped" herself for Patrick's attention, but the other theory is plausible as well.

I think Brian's anger at Tripp was because he never felt like he was a true "Darling". He always felt like Tripp and everyone else treated him differently and he's just taking it out on Tripp because he doesn't know where to direct his pain and anger. Especially since he'll never know his real father now.

I'm glad to see that Jeremy and Lisa were high when they kissed. After seeing the previews, I was confused how they could go there so fast.

There hasn't been one episode of this show that I haven't enjoyed so far. This was no exception. I wish I could get more people into this show. But it's kind of nice that it's a dirty, sexy secret.

Also, I loved the simplicity of how Nick asked Lisa to have another child. No big histrionics or fireworks displays or messages on the side of a blimp. Just simple, unexpected and real.

And how cute was that scene when Kiki commented on Karen's dress??
