Episode Recap: "Resistance Is Futile"

The first rule of Serial Killer Club? Don’t get caught. Everyone repeat.

In yet another fabulously put-together Dexter, our hero found himself dreaming dead-on dreams, "Can’t leave this s--t lying around, bro," while sleeping in a lawn chair at his ex’s. The show had everything: Keith Carradine’s backside! Lundy shook down LaGuerta! The trophy slides were found — in Doakes' car! Dexter became the FFT!

Heart to hearts everywhere:
Dex and Rita (x2)
Deb and Dex
LaGuerta and Doakes
Lila and Dexter
Lundy and Debra
Dexter and the FBI agents in the backseat of the car
Dexter and the FBI lab techs
Angel and Dexter
LaGuerta and Debra
Doakes and Dexter
See, the list keeps growing….

Michael C. Hall’s expressions in between dialogue were award worthy. Not much has been said here about this versatile actor, but last season I did mention his hotness. It's still intact, as is his talent. "All that self-reflection, it’s unhealthy." But the killing makes him sexier than ever.

My favorite lines are unprintable due to the excessive use of the F word, or variations of the F word, that were spoken in this ep. It was truly miraculous. Most of it was from Deb’s mouth, like, "F you twice," but nearly everyone got to use it at least once.

Poor Jimenez, relegated to decomposing in the hot warehouse in the middle of the Everglades with no one to find him. Dexter tried to console himself: "All I can do is pick up the pieces, of Jimenez."

We finally got to see Debra and Lundy in bed together and while it was sweet, it was also kind of yick. However, as mentioned previously, that Keith Carradine fellow has quite a nice hiney. For an old guy. Or shall we say, experienced? It was hilarious when Debra told Lundy he has "mad skillz," as a lover.

In an attempt to leave work after being made to feel useless in his own lab, the dulcet tones of one Lila, crazed lunatic sponsor, came wafting to Dexter’s ears. When he turned to see her, he gave new meaning to the phrase "If looks could kill." I’m surprised she didn’t shrivel up and keel over right there. I say kill her now. I mean, what are you waiting for, Dexter? An invitation? But Dexter still feels that he "can’t live with her, can’t kill her." Oh, he’ll change his tune soon enough.

Deb cracked me up with her "I’m talking about my feelings" speech. Is it possible that she keeps getting funnier and funnier?

When Dexter opened his box of blood slides, you could see how lovingly he felt towards them by the way he ran his fingers over them. "My old friends here to betray me" was his fear. It actually couldn’t be better for Dexter than to have the slides in his own hands. Worry not, my friend: Lundy doesn’t suspect you at all. That would get messy for Lundy and Debra if he figured it out. Do you suppose she’d still want to be with Lundy if he threw her brother in jail? Or worse, gave him the chair? Dexter was worried that she would be rather upset when and if she finds out Dexter = BHB.

Dexter’s slight, almost imperceptible smile when Lundy let him know it was Doakes on the chopping block and not him was part of his ability to hide in plain sight.

LaGuerta had a conniption over the fact that Lundy named Doakes as the prime suspect and swore up and down that Doakes wasn’t the killer. I know she was friendly with him, in the biblical sense, and that they used to be partners, but her devotion to him is really over the top. She sounded so desperate right up until she outed Debra and Lundy in the police station.

When Dexter was sandwiched between the two FBI agents and having his "let's get back together" again conversation with Rita, I found it quite funny.

I’ve got to say that Doakes is one heck of a detective. He’s the only one who knows, without a doubt, the BHB is Dexter. Yet, I’m afraid he won’t get the chance to prove his point. He headed to Haiti to find a lab where he could get the blood slides analyzed (yikes), but left Dexter’s little trophies in the trunk of his car at the airport. Not a rocket scientist, this one. When Doakes showed up in the Everglades, I figured Dexter was dreaming again. He does have such literal dreams, but it seemed pretty darned real. Dexter put the cuffs on and then came at Doakes. For a trained assassin, Doakes gets spooked pretty easily. Wait a minute, they’re both trained assassins. Takes one to know one.

Dexter didn’t kill Doakes (not yet at least). He just rendered him unconscious and put him in a cage. It’s awfully handy that they were still in the Everglades and Dexter could toss Doakes in his warehouse. However, the interruption is sure to have put him a little off schedule. He is going to have to jettison Jimenez’s body quickly in order to return home before the FBI guys get wind of him not being at his crib.

Dex has just two more episodes to embrace who he is and you have one week to watch clip after clip of Dexter in our Online Video Guide.

Last time I remarked that things were looking bad for Dexter. Well, now things are looking bad for Doakes. Downright grim, really. I like the fact that the writers chose not to have Dexter blatantly set up Doakes, but that the good sergeant was the victim of his own stupidity, so eager to nail Dexter that he failed to realize how his behavior would be interpreted by Lundy. Still, the code forbids Dexter's killing of Doakes, so I wonder what's in store for the final few episodes.

I'm glad Dexter realizes what he's lost with Rita and they want to get back together. She and the kids really ground Dexter. Lila has got to go, someway, somehow. Looks like Angel could be in a spot, though, based on next week's preview.

Deb and Lundy...hey, good for him...but still, yikes. It was hilarious when Deb blurted out that the two were sleeping together and a dumbfounded LaGuerta repeated it out loud so everyone in the office could hear. Deb telling Lundy she would be sleeping over at his place again and Lundy's calm shrug made for a great scene.

It was great to get a Harry/young Dexter flashback sequence again. We need more of those as framing mechanisms for the episodes.

I'm wondering how he patches up his gunshot wound!

Woah, things are really moving fast now! I have no clue how Dex is going to cover up that gunshot wound?!

Dex could just make Doakes 'disappear'. Doakes call to LaGuerta sounded like he was going to turn fugitive. So if Doakes drops off the radar, it's plausible that nobody gets arrested as the BHB.

Really nice acting by MCH again. He's been consistently amazing this season. Really nice moments when Dex apologizes to Rita.

Lundy-Deb is downright unsettling. Lyla-Angel is worse though for Dexter. Dex can't just kill Lyla if she's dating Angel.

Hard to believe there's only 2 episodes left to this season.

Can't believe the ending to this episode. Someone finally catches Dexter in the act and its Doakes! I have no idea what Dexter is going to do now. Can't kill Doakes as he's not a murderer, can't let him get wrongfully framed and in the chair to get executed either. A real f@"&$'n dilemma. "You're gonna have to kill me Morgan" is great stuff. Can't wait for the next episode. Just when I think Dexter is in the clear, he is screwed over and over again. A superb series. This is how you make great television.

Could the writing and plot development be any better on this show? Every other scene is a jaw-dropper and they just keep finding ways to keep the viewer on the edge of their seat. So much for the sophomore season jinx. This one tops the first and just keeps getting better.

Doakes wasn't unconscious- he was screaming at Dexter that he had to kill him as he closed the door on the room behind him...probably using more of that "f" word variation.

What does FFT mean? Anyone?

FFT = First forensic tech. It was Masuka, but now its (presumably) Dexter as he was given chain of custody for the blood slides.

Suddenly struck me that Dexter is probably the most "ethical" character I've ever enountered, just ain't our ethics. A true sociopath would have offed Doakes and Lila both weeks ago, but Dexter lives by the code of Harry. Still and all, can't help but see both of them gone by the end of this season.
Also, couldn't help but play the mind game: suppose Dexter does not get back to his apartment in time. Everyone will assume that Doakes slipped in and kidnapped him! Creates a scenario that has the potential to explain the gunshot wound, being in the everglades, even Doakes being responsible for Dexter's boat being there.
So many loose ends to tie up all in just two more episodes. I'm already looking forward to season three.

"Dexter" is my obsession. I cannot remember when I've loved a show more.

I really don't know how in the world he will explain the gunshot wound. The FBI thinks he's in his apartment. He can barely walk- how's he going to climb back in through the small window? And, if he gets back in - how will he explain the gunshot wound?

I just can't wait til next week!

Wow, just the BEST weekend of television ever! I got to see Battlestar Galactica:Razor, which was unbelievable and one of the BEST episodes of Dexter ever!

How can this show just keep getting better? We need writers like this on every TV show. My mind is blown away every week.

I love that Dex and Rita are getting back together and Doakes getting caught up in this whole BHB thing and it being by his own stupidity is great! I was thinking at the time that Dex could just say that Doakes kidnapped him, brought him to that cabin and in his attempt to escape got shot and had to kill Doakes in order to survive would be a great plan. Although Dex would have to get rid of Jimenez body no matter what because if the Feds look into this guy they might find out that he killed Dex's mom and it could lead them to him. Plus, I'm not sure how he will be able to kill Doakes within the Code!

As I've said in almost every post this season, MCH is so gifted and deserves an Emmy, plus he's HOT to boot.

I can't believe there is only 2 more episodes, Season 3 will be a VERY long wait!

I think we may see a "kill 2 birds with one stone." Lila and Doakes will have to go, there is no way around it. I have a feeling this will bring a new sadness and depth to Dexter in season 3. With Lundi being preoccupied with Debra, he will let things slide. Dexter is ofcourse going to go with Doakes found him and shot him in a struggle.

This show is just too good! It should win every award possible for just being the best acted and well written show on TV for sure!

I think there are actually three more episodes. Before last night's episode, the promo said "three more episodes before the season finale" which I interpret to mean four episodes total, counting last night's. Could be wrong but I beleive we have three more (and hopefully additional seasons as this show is simply amazing - who woulda thought a serial killer could be so lovable).

Best show ever, without a doubt. MCH acting was incredible again. He needs to win an emmy or GG. The despair on his face when the Feds picked him up. The care in his voice when he tried to tell Deb "thats good Deb you need someone in your life..." also when he apologizes to her when they pick him up. wow!!!
These writers are incredible as well, When Dex practically confesses by saying when he says what happens now. Wow again. Drama, humor this show is definitely the Best Show Ever.

I think Dex COULD kill Doakes and stay within "The Code."

Rule #1 of Harry's Code? Don't get caught.

Everything else is only to ensure Rule #1.
