Jane Seymour's still got it! Dancing With the Stars by Carol Kaelson/ABC
Episode Recap: "Premiere" (Sept. 24, 2007)

Wow! Before the premiere of DWTS, I had no idea who Sabrina Bryan was — but now I won't forget her! That was some cha-cha. The best ever on the show, according to Carrie Ann Inaba. I agree. This girl is the one to beat!

If anyone can go toe-to-toe with Sabrina, it's Mel B. She looks fantastic and she can shake it too! Her energy is surprising, considering she has an infant at home!

Speaking of infants, congratulations go to Samantha Harris on the birth of her baby girl! It is different without her, is it not? It surprises me to say it, but I miss her. Drew Lachey is a welcome addition as host, but the backstage interviews just aren't the same.

But back to the dancing! I love Jennie Garth. Is it me, or is she more beautiful now than during her 90210 days? Once she finds her confidence, I think she has major potential. I am rooting for her all the way!

Someone else to look out for is Jane Seymour. She is grace personified! But maybe that should come as no surprise, considering her ballet background. She has class and confidence that will take her far! Still, can she shake it in a Latin dance? That remains to be seen!

I am happy to report that I do not have to criticize Marie Osmond. (Because who wants to see tears from her, really? No more drama!) She is not the best dancer technically, but I think her smile and enthusiasm really distract from her lackluster footwork. I don't see her winning the competition, but I hope she sticks around for awhile. It's refreshing to see someone having so much fun! Go Marie!

Josie Maran is in last place, and I hate to say it, but that's where she belongs. I want to see her loosen up! On the plus side, she is gorgeous. Who among us can say that? Maybe Alec can whip her into shape, but it may be too late if she gets the axe.

Coming up next time: The men! I am so ready! Who do you think will be the guy to beat? Will anyone sink below Josie into last place? Will Wayne Newton's orange skin light up the stage? We'll find out soon! Until then, stop back here and tell me what you think!

Wow! Can't believe I'm first to post. Loved the show as usual.

I didn't miss Samantha, but I also found Drew annoying. What was with his constant references to himself--'your score is two points higher than mine was', 'I understand the work involved', etc. etc.

I wish they had gotten someone with better presence like Lisa Rinna. (Not sure if that's how you spell her name).

Anyway, as for the dancers, Josie is definitely in trouble. Did not like 'Scary Spice'. Sabrina totally wowed me! Jennie and Jane were gracious and beautiful. Marie was fun. LOVED her comment on the number of votes from the Osmonds--classic!

Looking forward to the men tomorrow!

I didn't get to see all the last hour. Hadn't even realized it was a two hour show, to be honest. But I was thrilled to see Sabrina. What a dancer! I really liked her.

As for Samantha, congrats about the baby, and it's okay with me if she decides to stay home. I was glad to see anybody but her hosting.

I thought when I saw the contestant/stars a few weeks ago that it would be boring, but they all seem fun, so I'm hooked again.

Did you all know that Alec and Edyta got married a week or so ago? (I hope I have their names right.)

Now, bring on the men.:)

I may be in the minority here but I liked Samantha (then again, I'm a guy who liked her looks and personality) and I'd like to offer congrajulations on her baby! I loved Tom's reactions to Drew's mentioning this was a nice rehearsal when he said to Sam, "Call me." even though I think that was probably planned. Josie was indeed the weakest of the female set but she'll probably stay another week because of her looks. Of the men that were previewed, I got a bad vibe about this Mark Cuban guy. Isn't this the same person who had an ABC reality series that also aired Mondays a few years ago that had him acting all Donald Trump but worse? Part of me wants him to go first because of that! Anyway, loved Jennie, Sabrina, and, especially, Jane Seymour whose backstory about having to quit ballet as a teen touched me the most and had me awestruck at her first dance. Great start for the new season of DWTS!

I, too, was actually glad NOT to see Samantha hosting. She always flubbed up. I think Drew will do a great job. I hope Jennie Garth and Jane Seymour do well. I can't wait for the men! This is going to be a great season!

I too did not miss Samantha Harris and I think Drew was pretty good. Once he loosens up a little more, I think he will be even better. Yesterday I read here on TVguide.com that it was going to be season 1 winner Kelly Monaco as co-host so I really surprised to see Drew when I turned the show on.

I thought all the dancers were excellent with Sabrina Bryan being a HUGE stand out. WOW!!!

I didn't like Mel B. when I saw the taped piece. I thought she was pretty annoying to her partner but her dance was good.

I thought both Jennie and Jane Seymour were lovely and did really solid, if not spectacular dances.

Marie Osmond just looked happy to be out of the house. As a mom, I understand that feeling!

Josie Maran deserved the criticism she got. It did come across as really harsh but not un-called for. If she is not fit, how does she keep in shape? Too me hearing she was unfit reinforced the idea that models stay so thin by really bad eating habits. If you don't eat, you won't have the energy to dance and control your body. Didn't the model from last season get sent home in the first round? Paulina whatever her name is?

I'm looking forward to seeing the men tonight!

With much anxiety, I was glued to the TV for the first show of the season. Loved Jane Seymour! Was not happy with the "Hip Hopper".. All three judges scorned them for too much hip hop as this is ballroom dancing....then they all scored her high. What's the deal? When they showed them practicing and her partner said, "She wants to do so much hip hop, we'll just incorporate it into the number"..... I knew the judges would be critial but the scores! Wow! What a turnaround. What happened to judging on BALLROOM technique? Am looking forward to the men tonight. I Hope they all understand what BALLROOM means!

Anyone else think that the judges opinions are swayed by the tapes shown before the dances? I think Sabrina's dance was akin to one usually seen at the end of the season and if the piece about the hip hop wasn't shown she might have seen higher scores (especially from Len). I remember something similar happening to Trista with her Tango (?). She had said she felt awkward dancing like that with someone who wasn't her husband and the judges got on her about not being sexy enough.

I was surprised by how klutzy model Josie Maran was--her dance wasn't bad, but aren't models supposed to have a total awareness of what each hand, arm, leg, etc. is doing and how it is positioned while they're being photographed? They don't actually sit still most of the time, they're striking different poses and creating different moods just by how they move for the photographer. So it just seemed as if she did not have the sense of balance or motion that you'd expect a model to have. Does anyone know what I mean, and agree or disagree?
Otherwise, all of the contestants were impressive for their first time out.
But Sabrina Bryan looked a ringer to me--she's way too experienced as a dancer to be considered anything like an amateur or newcomer as most of the other women are.

I really enjoy this show alot. How awesome it was to see Maksim again! I root for him and not necessarily the "stars". Speaking of the stars, like many, I had no idea who Sabrina was but WOW! her and Derek's performance was great!. They remind me of Derek's sister Julianne and her partner Apollo from last season - young, cute, great chemisty and full of energy. They are going to do well in this competition.
I am looking forward to seeing the guys tonight. All in all the women did really well so they guys are really going to need to step it up!
Does anyone know how how long the woman and men will be dancing on different nights? Is this just a one time thing?

OOPS! After I hit send I realize on my post that I said the Sabrina danced with Julianne's brother Derek. It hit me after I hit send that Derek danced with Jennie Garth and Sabrina danced with Mark. ACK! That's what I get for leaving a comment before I had my coffee. Nonetheless, Sabrina and Mark were great and cute together!

Sabrina was very good- don't get me wrong- but I have a feeling she will stay due to the "cheetah girl vote" more so than her dancing, much like Billy Ray stayed due in large part to the "hannah montana vote" last year. If they want a woman to win this year they may have found the right combo of good dancer/little girl vote in Sabrina. GarryB is right- smells like a ringer to me!

Sabrina Bryan is a dancer, so there is no surprise how well she is doing. If you saw the last Cheetah girls movie, which I did with kids, she danced through the entire thing. Kind of an unfair advantage.

I think that sometimes the comments (specifically the one from Alice) should be based on the performance and leave out the personal attacks. You may not like Scary Spice but the comments you made are totally out of place and way over the top. Criticize the performance or her behaviour on the show and leave the trash comments out.

Welcome to premiere week! So VERY excited...my top 2 ladies: Jane & Sabrina. In that order. I've always loved Jane Seymour but man can she dance with all the grace in the world!! She was my top vote getter! I'll be rooting her on til the end!! Sabrina is a little dynamo powerhouse (who's not rail thin either) but I do agree with the judges -- too much hip hop.

Jennie was pretty good, and 3rd on my "list". Once she shakes the nerves & gets more confident, she'll be tough. I'm sure Julianne's bro will whip her into "shape".

Marie was OK, not bad but a little too "bland" for my tastes. Is she always this hyper?? LOL!!

Mel B didn't do a thing for me -- she's got a good butt though...otherwise, not my cup of tea.

And poor Josie -- not even her looks will keep her there. She was the equivalent of trying to get a noodle to stand up straight...it ain't happening. Also, one can be rail thin and in bad physical shape. Not in terms of the body but cardiovascularly (is that a word) speaking. She's got no stamina whatsoever...

Looking forward to the guys -- c'mon Cameron, represent!! LOL! Curious about Mark Cuban though...
