Marie, Are You Alright?!?

"Oh Crap!" Jonathan Roberts, Marie Osmond by Carol Kaelson/ABC
Well, I think it's safe to say tonight got off to a rocky start. After delivering a decent samba, Marie Osmond passed out right on the ballroom floor! Longest. Commerical Break. Ever. I could be mistaken, but I thought I heard a few laughs from the audience at first, who must have thought she was joking around. But they quickly fell silent when Tom Bergeron went to break. During the commercial, I got so worried. I started to wonder what would happen if something went seriously wrong with her. Visions of heart attacks, strokes and aneurysms went through my head. Would the show really go on? Thankfully, she just became winded, and despite some embarrassment she's going to be fine. What a trooper! But Samantha Harris had it right; fainting was not going to get her a 10. This dance garnered Marie her lowest score yet.

How great was Jane Seymour? When her dance started, I got a good view of the back of her dress, or lack thereof. What a body on her! I was amazed a woman 29 years my senior looked that great. I need to hit the gym. She delivered a beautiful rumba and her chemistry with Tony (who couldn't have chemistry with him?) took the dance to another level.

This past Sunday morning, I watched a program on ESPN Classic about Mark Cuban. If there's one thing I learned about this mogul, it's that he has great instincts and a knack for finding the "next great thing" and capitalizing on it. I won't bore you with the details, but do some research on the guy. It's quite impressive. Anyway, my point is that his great instincts are coming in handy in this competition. He knows his weakness (dancing) and is using his strengths (business savvy and people skills) to get to the heart of this competition — the voters! He could stick around awhile because of this. The man knows how to win.

What can I say about Sabrina Bryan? Another great dance, of course. Some may say she peaked too soon, but she does continue to perform well. She may not be able to maintain the perfect 30 all the way until the end, but she's not going anywhere.

I hope a different 90210 cast member shows up each week for Jennie Garth. Luke Perry, where are you? I heart Dylan McKay. This week it was Tori Spelling. If these stars were on an ABC show, the network would be getting more use out of their appearances. Tonight's shameless plug was for Samantha Who?, in case you were wondering. I wasn't. But back to Jennie. She didn't wow me this week, but she's still going strong. I'm afraid she's going to be in the bottom two. Let's vote!

I was shocked when the judges bashed my Helio. No chemistry? Were they watching the same dance I was? I thought Helio had the hip movements of a ballroom professional. I didn't get that critique at all. Make them eat their words next week, Helio!

Mel B scored a 29, and all I could wonder was if that score was the judges' way of making sure she didn't end up in the bottom two again this week. Did anyone else think that? Not that it wasn't a great samba, because it was. I agreed with the judges last week when they said she was one of the best competitors this season. I wasn't quite sure this dance was worthy of a 29, though. If my hunch is right, I hope their strategy works!

The sexy award of the night went to Cameron Mathison. He was an example of kicking it into high gear. Last week's paso doble seemed to light a fire under his butt. He came back strong again this week, and proved to be a contender in the competition. I said earlier this season that Edyta would whip him into shape, so maybe I wasn't talking complete nonsense! She is my favorite of the professional ladies.

So what did you think of all the hoopla? My prediction for the bottom two is Mark Cuban and Marie Osmond, with a possibility of Jennie Garth slipping in there. But what do you think? No matter who it is, the results show is sure to please — Jennifer Lopez will be there, and so should you. Stop back and we'll chat all over again!

How scary was that??!! I wish Marie's dance had been better! Thought it was horrible that Samantha said she thought a faint would get her 10s! Sheesh! Anyway, wish Jennie had been better too! Have to admit Mark wasn't as bad tonight, wish he had gone home last week though. I don't think I had a favorite; lots of good stuff but nothing that stood out as WOW!

I agree with the first blogger. I thought Samantha's remark about Marie fainting was worse than crude. Not funny, as I'm sure she thought it was. I did not for one minute think it was a "ploy" for sympathy. And the judges reflected that.

My only other thought about the show is that I am sick of the judges "gushing" about Sabrina. Yes, she is good. But has an advantage because of her YEARS of dancing lessons and experiece. Not fair to the others who have little or none. I do not want her to win because of this.

Other than that, I think that a woman will win this year. Simply because guys have won the last couple of years. Call me cynical; I do not trust the voting system! I have never liked the fact that fans can, and do, keep their favorites on well past their time to go.

Enjoyable show, as usual. Everyone is doing a great job. It is hard to pick a favorite at this point. I now know more about each one, and they are all very personable and deserving for all their hard work.

The judges scores are "locked in" before their discussions with the dancers begin. Only the home viewers would have been swayed by Marie's fainting.

Thank you... Helio didn't dance the way I thought he would, but that doesn't mean he wasn't good. I think the judges were merciless... Not cool.

Cameron Mathison... I must have a thing for Latin men. This guy just doesn't interest me and therefore neither does his danicing. I do admit he has improved tremendously, but he just doesn't keep my attention... same with Sabrina. I guess that's what makes the world go round!

I think it's interesting that everyone complains about Sabrina's dance background (which is hip hop and not even remotely close to ballroom - the only advantage she has is maybe rhythm and learning choreography) but Mel's prior dancing is never mentioned at all.

Anyway, I don't get the whole Cameron thing either. He doesn't nothing for me. I thought they were way hard on Helio and considering she made 2 big mistakes, far too forgiving with Jenny. Sabrina did a great job. Mark has improved but yes his feet need work. Marie doesn't haven't the technicality to back up her dramatic flair. And Jane is over rated. She was okay but I thought the dance was a lot of her walking around doing nothing. It was far less technical then some of the other contestants. She looked fab though. This year is just a disappointment and tonight seemed really off.

I thought Jane was fantastic. She did a lot of complicated moves and made it seem effortless.

Don't get Jennie Garth's appeal. She dances like she's been forced at gunpoint. There is no enjoyment there. Cameron is okay, but it's too pretty people with no chemistry. Helio was fine, but the beginning made me think of Mike Meyers on SNL. I lust after Max each and every show. The man has such a delicious looking body.

Agree that the judges were trying to keep Melanie Brown from slipping into the dreaded Bottom Two again. They gave her a total of 29 points, which in my humble op is about 3 more than she deserved. Great chemistry with her partner Maks, though.

Helio Castroneves danced much, much better than the judges' scores would lead you to believe. Because he and Sabrina wowed the viewers in the first two shows of the season, I think the show's producers are trying to keep him "below the radar," at least for now. They remember only too well what happened the first season, when John O'Hurley won week after week after week, then had to settle for second place.

The judges won't let that happen again. Incidentally, that's why Apolo Anton Ohno didn't receive all perfect scores after that first great 10-10-10 samba with Julianne. The show's producers wanted to save some suspense for the finale... which, of course, Apolo won.

Cheers,
Dan

Mmm, Maksim. Still the only reason I'm watching. Will continue to vote for him and whoever his partner happens to be. I suppose I should watch her one of these routines.

Agree that Jane is overrated -- gorgeous lines but still can't seem to break out of her proper English shell. I've yet to feel any heat. As for Helio, for once the judges and I were watching the same dance. Appealing guy, no musicality (or hip action).

I agree that Jane is WAY overrated. She hardly moved! All I saw was a bunch of posing. She looked beautiful tonight, but that's the only thing I can say about her performance. Helio was dissapointing, he seems to be regressing every week.
Mel B had the best dance of the night for me, very entertaining. Jennie was ok, I think she could have done better but I was entertained nonetheless.

I have a bad feeling that Helio could be in trouble this week. His score of 23 was only better than Mark and Marie who each received 21's and I fear their respective fan bases might be larger than his. I will be extremely disappointed if he and Julianne leave this early in the competition. While their dance this week may not have been their strongest I still believe they are one of the best tandems. Besides, I love Julianne.

It's interesting to see how different people perceive the same event so differently.

I didn't think Samantha Harris was rude or crude or anything for making the jest about Marie's fainting. Marie has a good sense of humor and made jokes about it herself, so I think it was fine. I think maybe it's time to send Marie home, though--I do not want to see her pass out again.

Mark danced the worst, overall, tonight, so if he goes home, that would also be fine. I thought Kym looked divine in her Jeannie-inspired outfit. That is one sexy and beautiful woman.

Jennie wasn't as good as last week, perhaps, but I liked her samba for the most part. I'm still pulling for her to make it to the final four.

Sabrina did a better job with the rumba of mixing soft and slow with hard and fast, unlike her paso, which was all speed moves. I liked it.

The rumba of the night definitely went to Cameron, and I was so irritated with Carrie Ann for parroting herself from last week. Lift lift lift. Sheesh. It's not like Edyta's unauthorized lift with Joey Lawrence when she did that flip. That was egregious...this was fine.

I, too, think Mel got way too high a score, far higher than she deserved. I also think it was ridiculous to have her dancing to a Spice Girls song. Come on! That's like giving someone home court advantage. It also completely distracted me from her dance. That would have been like Billy Ray Cyrus or Sara Evans or Joey Fatone dancing to one of their songs during their seasons.

Helio did all right...I think the judges were overly harsh on him and his scores should have been a little higher.

Jane was fine. I agree with Len about the class she brings to her performances. Unfortunately, her time is coming soon. Youth will have to take over as we near the end where athletic performances always win out.

I thought Marie's dance was not very good and then to see her hit the floor in a dead faint, scared me! I immediately thought there was something seriously wrong and that's why her dancing was off. Just gave me shivers. I'm glad she seems to be alright.

I've really liked Helio since the beginning, but something about that dance tonight WAS off. It was supposed to be sexy and all about chemistry. I remember hearing that he has a girlfriend, and for me, it was like he was afraid to show the feeling and chemistry he has with Julianne, and the dance suffered for it.

I think part of the reason that Cameron doesn't appeal to some people is because he's big and was at first kind of "galumpy". LOL. I know that's not a word, but you get my drift. Last week he emerged from his shell and did fine tonight also. I think it's a body type that doesn't led itself well to the ballroom.

I personally love Sabrina. I think she's a little cutie and a sweetheart. Hip hop is nothing compared to ballroom, and she works her heart out to be perfection every week. If Helio can't make it back, I'm rooting for Sabrina.

But I like a few others as well.

Wondering if others are liking the elimination night entertainments better this year as I am? I've enjoyed most of the entertainment (not Wayne Newton) and always love the dancing. Tomorrow night is old time rock and roll..I won't be missing that!!

As far as some of the remarks about Jane Seymour, I remember the same criticisms about Laila Ali. But while the fast footwork and alot of hipshaking are two facets of the latin ballroom dances and are fan-favs, the slower elements, especially for a slower song, are just as important and can be just as difficult technically. Jane was able to pull it off beautifully and the judges recognized it. Just my .02
