Episode Recap: Back in the Ballroom Again!
Leapin' lizards! It's time for another season of Dancing with the Stars. Welcome back, everyone! I've missed my weekly helping of D-list casserole so let's get right to it, shall we?
My first giggle of the season came in the middle of the opening dance by the pros. It wasn't my normal snicker about how the men's hips go all girlie, but a pure gleeful giggle at how cheesy this whole show is and what a dork I am for it. What's better? I get to goof on it all and then some of you write in and tell me what an idiot I am. This is the life!
Penn Jillette We've found this season's funny guy. He's not going to win but he'll last a few weeks because he's good for a chuckle. He should have Teller dress up like a girl and dance with him. Cha-cha 16
Jason Taylor He's dancing with Edyta, so they have the hotness factor working for them. He was a bit stiff, but he definitely has potential. It's probably out of his comfort zone and he'll loosen up in no time. Fox-trot 22
Cristiαn de la Fuente Who is this guy and why have I never seen him before? He is scorching hot! What a smile. He is my new Helio! Oh, and he can dance, too. I look forward to watching him as the competition goes on. Cha-cha 21
Adam Carolla After I was done laughing (but most of it was at his funny facial expressions), I decided he should stick to radio. Fox-trot 15
At the end of Adam's dance, they flashed to the women on the side of the stage and Priscilla Presley's face looked like it was smashed up against a piece of glass. What has this woman done to herself? Ponder it and let's discuss tomorrow when the women dance.
Mario I love how he wanted to do the show just to meet Karina. He was the closest to a pro tonight. He will go far because he can perform well and it's obvious he's having fun with it. Cha-cha 24
First shameless plug of the season the new Bachelor was in the house. He's hot, though, so I didn't care. Don't tell anyone, but I might watch this season. I squeal every time I see a preview.
Steve Guttenberg He's destined to be the fan favorite. I will be calling him Mahoney the whole season, so let's all get onboard with that. He wasn't very good, but I'm still rooting for him. He's a good actor and his career could use a boost. One thing I like about him is that even though he's been out of the public eye for a while, you haven't heard about him doing anything crazy like porn or molesting farm animals. He's a stand-up guy and his looks haven't faded too much. Good for him. Fox-trot 18
I thought the men started off well, but they definitely left room for the women to kick some butt. Will we finally have a woman win this year? Who was your favorite tonight? Which woman are you most looking forward to see dancing? Post your thoughts below and join me tomorrow for the next round!
POLL: Who's your early favorite? Vote here.

Um, Kelly Monaco won the first year....I really liked tonight's show. I really didn't like Adam Carolla, and I'm hoping he goes home next week. I don't think he can improve his dancing enough in this lifetime for me to overlook how much I can't stand him.

The magician should make himself disappear with Adam Toyota who reminds me of Gilbert Gottfried. Cheryl Burke is to die for and perhaps she can either wear her costume backwards or have the string break. I mean really what do these woman want from us guys? Very entertaining show but did they really need 92 minutes? Priscilla looks downright scary and Christian and Taylor should do very well including Mario. It looks to be a very entertaining season once again but then it will be up against Idol partially on tuesdays. That's why the Lord invented the DVR.

Hi all. I was curious to see how this season was going to start because I didn't really see any of these performers as "dancers." In seasons past there have just been people you "knew" were going to be good, but I didn't really have that vibe going into tonight.
HOWEVER, I was pleasantly surprised by Jason Taylor and Mario. Jason is so smooth on his feet! And Mario has mad chemistry with Karina. I joined with Carrie Ann in fanning myself after that performance!
I enjoyed Penn because his performance was so great even though his footwork needs some work. For a guy that big (and he's already lost 50 lbs. as of late!) to slide on the floor the way he did was awesome! And Kym is a perfect partner for him because she knows how to have fun with her routines.
Christian has potential, but I'm still not sure if I like him. However, I gave him a vote because I'd like to give him the chance to grow.
And Steve Guttenberg was so wonderfully enthusiastice and appreciate of being part of the show that he got the majority of my votes. I love actors who remain humble, so he automatically shot to the top of my list as a person I want to give ample opportunity to continue with the show and develop his ability. I just loved how he took in the judges comments because he truly wanted to get better and please them.
Which leaves poor Adam. Or should I say, poor Julianne. The truth is, I don't dislike Adam in the least. As a matter of fact, he's a lot better than other contestance have been in the past. It's just that he has the least amount of talent of this year's crop of men. So, alas, even though I enjoy Julianne, she and Adam did not get my vote. Honestly, I think they pair the champs with chumps after repeat wins in order to keep the show interesting. It would start to get really boring after all if the same pros won every season.
I'm looking forward to watching the ladies, but I have to check to see if the show overlaps with American Idol. I'm an AI-first, DWTS-second kind of fan. I'll tape the show if necessary. I just won't be able to vote unless I watch it immediately following Idol.

I could be wrong but I think you can vote online longer than we're given to vote by phone.
I'm looking forward to the women dancing. Actually, I'm interested in seeing all of them and can't pick a favorite until I do. I'm so often surprised at who I end up liking!
Didn't like Adam Corolla or Penn too much. Hoping Adam will be the first to go.
Was it just me or did Cheryl and Christian seem a little "friendly"? Can't blame the girl. He was a cutie, as were Mario and Jason.
I'm so glad this show is back!

I honestly thought Steve Guttenberg's foxtrot was much better than an 18. He wasn't as stiff as some of the others - especially with that little aerial side kick. Other than that I though the judge's marks were right on.
I'm also not as blown away by Jason Taylor as everyone else seems to be, but I think now that the first performance is out of the way - watch out!
I was in tears watching Adam Carolla - his facial expressions cracked me up. He knows he's probably the first or second to go so he's just hamming it up.

This is the time of year when I go CRAZY on Tuesdays - AI, DWTS, and Beauty and the Geek are all on at overlapping times. Thank God I never got hooked on Biggest Loser - couples. There aren't enough TIVOs or time in the world to handle all that reality, so I do a lot of channel surfing. Gotta say, I agree with Carrie Ann, already I love Season 6!
Penn is far from the best dancer, but you can tell he works hard at it and he is such a showman. If he ever goes down in flames he will still have the audience cheering.
Jason Taylor is a cutie pie. I'm sure the fans will keep him around long enough to give his Dolphins teammates plenty of material for locker room razzing. One thing that bothers me a little - I can't believe he really wants to be doing this.
Steve Guttenberg, on the other hand, is just so thrilled to be on the show, it's really touching. I think he'll be really bummed when it's his time to go.
Cristian is my pick to go sooner rather than later. The fans have a tendency to eliminate the pretty people first, and we have no supermodels this season. He seems a little arrogant, and his dancing was not good enough. Where I am excited to watch Penn, Jason and Steve G get better week by week, don't care about Cristian.
Adam C - funny, sure, but his demographic doesn't really watch this show. At least Julianne is getting a good laugh out of it.
Mario - loved him in Step Up, will love him in DWTS all the way to the finals.
I agree with you, Krista - I unabashedly love every cheesy minute of this show! Thanks for your blog!

I am so glad that this show is back on too. Everytime I hear the theme song, it just makes me want to dance!
I thought that the stand out guys were Jason, Mario and Steve. They all had a great enthusiasm and even though Jason and Mario have the "talent", Steve has the heart. I just hope that all the women don't get sucked in and forget to vote for the women like in past seasons. I know Kelly Monaco was the initial winner of the first season, but if my memory serves me right; didn't they have a dance-off and have America vote again and John won?
I don't know Priscilla did to her face, but she should have just aged gracefully! I am excited to watch the women dance tonight, they are going to be fantastic is my prediction!

Well, Adam wasn't as bad as I thought he would be, and definitely not as bad as some dancers from previous seasons--Master P comes to mind--but I would really like to see him go first.
Christian was pretty good, and once they showed to clip from Ugly Betty I recognized him. Had to laugh at your "this seasons Helio" comment because when he came on, I told my daughter that I could like him almost as much as Helio. And wow, what a body, and he's almost got the little male dancer butt....nice.
I LOVE Penn, and it was great seeing him be such a showman. I'm sure he won't be around very long, but I'll keep voting for him as long as he is.
Interested in seeing the women tonight, except Priscilla, because her face scares me. My daughter kept asking who the scary-looking redhead was...lol.

Krista, I know what you mean. In the middle of the opening dance, I caught myself grinning. I didn't realize how much I missed DWTS. Well, everything about DWTS except for Samantha. She was her usual rude self when she cut off Steve. Tom was great, as always. I loved his line: Where all your votes counts. No super delegates here.
Jason - my favorite. He wasn't the best dancer but once he loosens up, I feel he has the most potential. I'm glad he realizes that he needs to leave his ego at the door. I loved his posture. He and Edyta make a beautiful couple. Penn - entertaining Adam - funny Mario - very touchy-feely with Karina. How will Mario #1 feel about this? Steve - charming Christian - sizzling hot
I realize it's early but I can see Jason and Mario as the top 2 male dancers.

Hi everyone, This is my first time joining this particular group; last night was my first time ever to watch DWTS. I loved it though, so I will continue to watch. Could not believe I had missed 5 whole years of this! I'm a voter, I like to vote and would have last night, but I waited too long! Oooh, they are strict on this show and you can only vote 6 times from one phone. I like that! Wish AI would do that too! Reading all the previous comments, I can certainly tell I'm a newby, because all my favorites were simply based on personality. I liked Penn, Adams and "Mahoney". I'm really hoping their dancing will improve, though Adams is probably going to be the first to go. I do wish this show did not conflict with AI. I think that's the reason I missed all 5 previous seasons. Now, that I've got the DVD, I can record one and watch it later. Long time AI fan here, so I'll be watching AI live, then I'll watch DWTS. Guess I'll miss my second opportunity to vote!

Hi Krista and other DWTS fans! So glad the show is back (although I also watch the CBS comedies which I taped) so I missed a few of Tom's comments and scores (Samantha ... what the heck was she wearing?!!) Anyway, the opening number was awesome although it was interesting to see Tony's chest ... I miss Maks
My favorite tonight was Steve and thought he deserved way higher marks than he received. Most of my votes went to him. I threw one out to Christian and one to Penn because I like Kym.
I can't wait to watch tonight although last week my head was spinning from flipping through three reality shows.
No favorites yet, just enjoying the dance!
Oh, and Krista, I almost started to watch the Bachelor (is it really the 12th season?) because I love his accent and the promo where he says, "I've come to steal your women," gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. But alas, I just can't deal with the antics of the women. Why don't we have a Bachelorette? She's the only one who got married and I'd rather watch 25 men than 25 women. Anyway, wrong forum ...
I'm looking forward to watching Tony (he's such a class act and hasn't had a really good partner since Stacy Keibler, season two). And Derek is just so awesome with his choreography (and is such a cutie). But I most look forward to the return of Louie! Unfortunately, he's with Priscilla and I don't have high hopes for them.
Oh and for the person who said it's been on six years, it's only been on for about 3 years, they just air it twice a year and call them seasons. So, it's season 6 and the previous winners (just to see if I remember them): Season 1: Kelly Monaco (she actually won the mirrored ball trophy) Season 2: Drew Lachey Season 3: Emmitt Smith Season 4: Apolo Ohno Season 5: Helio Castroneves Season 6: ??? Only America will decide
Talk to you on Wednesday!!!
