February 26, 2007: Feeling Sorry

I titled this week's blog "feeling sorry" because I kept feeling sorry for so many people in this episode. Of course, I kept laughing at all of their sorrow and pain as well. It was a good balance.

I felt sorry for Duncan. He had to go out to lunch with Yonk and listen to him talk about keeping Nicole company while he's out, all while hiding the fact that Nicole's about to leave him. I actually might have felt sorry for him that he wouldn't get to see the Sixers game, either. (No wait, no one needs to see the Sixers right now.)

I felt sorry for Nicole that Yonk got home early and ruined her plans to have things packed and ready to go.

I felt sorry for Richie that he had to hold in the fact that Nicole was packing to leave Duncan. And I felt sorry that he got tossed on his head after riding the bull for .01 seconds.

I felt sorry for Kyle that he never gets to see his boyfriend.

And I felt really sorry for Kat that she gave her heart to Benjamin Chow and it turned out ugly.

So that's a whole lot of sorry goin' on. But there was a whole lot of laughter going on as well.

Lina stopping by Nicole's house was hilarious. Holding up the bra that was supposedly going to charity and Nicole commenting that "just because you're poor doesn't mean you can't look perky" was great. But I laughed out loud later on when Lina was trying on the snow gear and started skiing down the steps.

And the scenes at the restaurant were great as well. How about Yonk calling the cheesecake "sugar and fat making love on a plate," or when Richie, after eating 40 ounces of steak, said, "Seriously, I'm burping hooves."

Of course, then I have to feel sorry again when Yonk has a heart attack after riding the bull. That should seriously damper Nicole's plan to leave him.

One thing I was so happy to finally see was Ethan in action as a doctor. I still don't think it's believable, but it's nice to finally see him do his job!

All in all, another good one as we get closer to the end of the season.

Until next week, friends.

Man, these writers seem to be stuck in the infidelity zone. Let's tally the instances:
Richie (Lina did not know at the time, so she gets a pass,) Nicole & Duncan, Benjamin...
As usual, Richie had some one-liners that I got a good laugh out of. I enjoyed the episode, though I thought it was painfully obvious exactly what was going to happen to Yonk at the bar. I actually thought it would happen while he was still on the bull. They had just made too many references to amount of food they ate & it was obvious Yonk had been there many times before. I really want him to remain a part of the show and it looks like he will for the time being. You know Nicole will most likely stay with him now to help him health-wise.

I liked Lina quite a bit more this episode than I have in the past.

For once we agree. I felt sorry for just about everyone in this episode, but there was still enough funny to keep things interesting.

It was pretty obvious about Yonk and the heart attack, but I like David Keith and would like to see him stick around (that is if there is more next season).

I was also a bit spoiled so I knew the bit with Benjamin was coming too. But I thought Lizzy rocked the hell out of that break up scene. She plays the vulnerability well.

I even thought the bit with Ethan and the kid was great. The kid was funny himself and Ethan is so childlike in some ways that the banter worked.

Wait, what? Did CBS only order half a season? It's coming back, yes?

Yeah, there was definitely more drama than comedy last night, but they make the drama funny, so it all evens out. I really like this show and hope it sticks around for a while.

I just love this show and all your comments.
The only part I did not like was Kat's final line to Benjamin as she grabs her toothbrush and walks out...."you don't get any of me". Lame very lame...but she made up for it when she knocked on Ethan's door and let him actually hug her!!!

I like Kyle more and more - the way he said "Duh" was very funny (at least the first two times).

And I loved Richie's "I think I know what I don't know - do I know?" He sounds desperate and anxious all the time, even when the situation is not about him.

When Richie said "Nicole is home packing" to Yonk I thought I'd spit. He is so thick headed it's hilarious.

Lol, jayhawk, I was thinking the same thing last week about how the writer’s seem to not hold marriage in high regard and this week, they gave us even more infidelity. Either someone on the staff has had some seriously messed up relationships or they just can’t think of anything else to use to break people up.

I liked this episode, mostly the stuff with Ethan, Kyle and Kat. Like Chevy82, I’m also starting to like Kyle more and more. I like how he was flattered when he thought that Ethan pictured him naked.

My favorite scene definitely has to be Ethan and Benjamin’s kid. It was hilarious how frustrated he got with him, trying to get out information. I’d like to see more of Ethan the doctor but not really with kids all the time (though he is a pediatrician so that might be hard).

Loved Lina trying on Nicole’s clothes and skiing down the steps. Loved Yonk describing the cheesecake.

Kat really needs to stop calling people dude. It’s getting annoying. But I liked that she did believe Ethan and confronted Benjamin. So often we see this plot device used in shows and the person refuses to believe their friend.

CBS cut the episode order for The Class back to 19, so what we're getting is approximately 86% of a season.

Chevy82 - I so agree with your comment.
Loving Kyle more and more and Richie....your comments are spot on.:)

Not entirely true Staley. This show never had a full season order, so the order wasn't cut back.

CBS only ordered six additional episodes in the first place, bringing the total to 19 as opposed to 22.

I'm glad you clarified that raya4. If they cut back the episode order in its first season, that would not bode well for a second season. If it is just that they only ordered 19, there is still a chance for next year.

Kyle and Ethan's opening scene was great. From the smack talk to the 'Duh'. Great lines and great delivery.

I also like the Kat and Ethan interaction. Great balance of serious/funny when he revealed "Susan". And the hug scene was well done.

As some mentioned Kat played the whole thing really well.

Oh, see now, I think Ethan as a pediatrician makes perfect sense and actually works for the character. Viewers were griping in the past that Jason Ritter didn't seem believable as a doctor, but working with kids seems to be a good thing for him because his scenes with the little boy got some of the biggest laughs from the studio audience. It was one of the first time I actually saw a bit of Jason's dad in him.
