Episode Recap: "Chuck vs. the Truth"

The truth is out there... or was it? Tonight a poison expert (guest star Kevin Weisman) got to Chuck and his crew and exposed them all to some killer truth serum, causing Sarah and Casey to drop the spy act and tell it like it is. Sorta.

Unfortunately Ellie got poisoned as well, and Chuck put her welfare before everything and everyone else. He had one dose of the antidote, and he gave it to her. Not a very spy-like move, but certainly a 100 percent Chuck choice. With time running out, Chuck realized how to track down the bad guy and got the antidote for everyone, but not before he got a painful confession from Sarah: Their fake relationship has no chance of getting real.

And that makes things even more difficult for Chuck, who found someone who could be real, and right, for him. The O.C alum Rachel Bilson breezed into Chuck's life with a broken phone and a deli sandwich named after him — what's not to love? Too bad he already has a "girlfriend" in Sarah. You can't blame Chuck for using the truth poison to find out where he stands. Too bad he didn't know she was trained to withstand the effects of the truth stuff. So was she lying or not?

And I know a number of you out there were thrilled to see Tang get shipped off to the pineapple farm. Any guesses as to who will be named his successor? Someone out there needs to fill the epaulets.... Could it be Morgan? Big Mike seemed to be getting pretty friendly there with him, dropping a big secret like that.

Now on to some of the highlights!
• Chuck’s face while Awesome went through his bike analogy. The poor guy really looked horrified! We saw quite a bit of old-fashioned sensibilities in Chuck tonight, and that is really sweet.
• The picture of President Reagan at Casey’s place. That is so him!
• Ellie’s truth rant, especially the "porno shorts" line and the bit about Chuck’s hair "making funny animal shapes."
• Casey admitting he wouldn’t shoot Chuck and telling him that he respects Chuck for being a nice guy.
• Chuck’s comment that Casey’s chin was carved by Michelangelo.
• Sarah winning the "who is the better lock pick" argument.
•Chuck’s comic-book knowledge allowing him to foil the poison expert.
• Shirtless Awesome! (And lingerie Sarah.) That was some serious fan service.

And the Britney song was a nice touch, I did not mind it at all.

OK, I know I left out plenty of great stuff from this episode, so let's hear what you guys enjoyed!

OMG.Best.episode.yet. I loved everything about this episode, and I truly have to commend all of their acting skills. Yvonne Strahovski (Sarah) killed it tonight with her facial expressions. I was so heartbroken when she told Chuck that there would never be a future between them. I melted when Chuck was about to kiss Sarah but instead dumped her. Great job guys! I hope Chuck stays around for seasons to come *goes to a corner to pray*

Who needs super-comic book knowlledge when you can tell colors? The antidote that saved Ellie was green; the stuff the bad guy gave them was yellow.

Tang has been deposed, htough i wouldn't mind being exiled to Oahu. Whs says Casey can't be subtle?

Anybody else not trust Lou? I have a feeling she won't be around very long.

I never thought of Ellie as "Eleanor" before.

So now that Chuck is the intersect, here's what I don't understand: Bryce send the data from the intersect to Chuck and destroyed the mainframe. Is Chuck actually the intersect and does new material become uploaded into his brain, or does he only have information up until the point where Bryce destroyed the mainframe? If the latter is the case, I would think that it might be realistic that Chuck could continue to be useful forever.

I didn't think they could top last week's episode, but I adored this one too! I'm so glad I haven't deleted any of them from my dvr as I expect to be rewatching them a lot during the writers strike.

I have to agree with latincandy78. This was a great episode.
Although I think the look on Ms. Strahovski's face at the end of the episode, when Chuck goes to the deli, was even more telling, it sold me more on the Sarah characters true feelings even more, for me anyway. The entire cast did a great job this episode

Best episode of Chuck yet!!

Rachel Bilson was amazing here as Lou, definitely saw sparks fly between her and Chuck. That moment with Sarah was a total squee moment as Chuck asked her if there was ever a future between them. I loved it when Chuck started spewing out truths, especially to Sarah, "You're so pretty." Very, very true. You could see that Chuck had been falling for her as they've maintained their "cover," and that she's dug him as well, which made that misleading "truth" scene very sad. Great writing though, and I can't wait to see how Sarah reacts to the vixen Bilson in tow. Gonna be a juicy love triangle!! Exactly what this show needed.

I just love this show..It gets better each week..The truth serum bit was fun..and i liked that Ellie finally got involved in the action this week...

Rachel Bilson is a great addition and has nice chemistry with Chuck..But no where near what he has with Sarah...Can't wait to see where this all goes...

They haven't really gotten into the technical aspects of the Intersect yet. We know they're building the second one, at which point Chuck will be "retired" by Casey. As that would end the show, that clearly won't happen (barring canceliation and hopping Chuck makes it thru the Strike), they'll likely update Chuck's database.

If I never see the character Tang again, it would be too soon.

Of course Sarah was lying (at least partially) when she told Chuck they'd have no future together. I say "partially" because I think she knows that, despite her feelings for him, the CIA wouldn't let the two be together once her mission is over.

In other words, Chuck asked the wrong question. Even if the truth serum had been working, I'd wager it'd be difficult for Sarah to imagine there to be a future between her and Chuck, regardless of her feelings.

This is simply GREAT television. I'm haven't LOVED a show this much since Buffy. This is such a fun ride, with incredible, witty, smart and touching writing and acting.

I loved the scenes between Lou and Chuck (don't all of us want him to find someone who truly appreciates just how terrific Ellie & we know he is?). I wasn't suspicious of Lou until the previews for next week. Hmmm? The intrigue continues. Is there a leak? Others know Chuck is the Intersect?

The breakup scene. I actually yelled out loud....Kiss her. I was not expecting a break up.

Guess I'm more old fashioned than I thought I was. To truly like a show, I have to really care about the characters. There's something to like (and maybe even love) about each and every one of them.

FLAConnie, I also yelled out loud "Kiss her". I didn't see the break-up coming. Poor Sarah. She definitely has feelings for Chuck; she just can't act on them b/c she's a professional.

Speaking of professional, I loved Chuck's reaction to her lingerie!! Then he goes and implies she looks like a hooker. When she asks him what's wrong, he angrily flips over to his side. His body language was saying "I don't wanna talk about it". I cracked up.

The truth segment while waiting for the elevator was too cute/funny. He finally tells Sarah he thinks she's so pretty and then he tells Casey that he has an awesome chin. LOVED IT!!

My heart broke for Chuck when Sarah said there was no chance for them. With the sun shining into the room, that close-up on Chuck's face made me realize he has such beautiful brown eyes.

I don't trust Lou. Can't wait 'til next Monday.

This show is absolutely fantastic. I don't know why this show isn't in the Top 20. It's smart, funny, interesting, has action, great characters, great writing, hot babes, studly guys, what more could anyone ask for? This episode was great since Chuck realized that he needs a real relationship and asked Sarah how she really felt. Too bad she was able to fight the effects of the drug and was able to lie to him. It looks like next week's "showdown" will be even better than this episode. My brain may not be able to handle that much awesomeness.

Another great episode! I agree with others that I am baffled that its ratings are not higher.

I loved every second of the characters on truth serum. Especially Casey's reaction when Chuck asked who was better at picking locks: "She is. Damn truth serum." Also, Casey being touched when Sarah called him her partner; very unCasey-like...from what we know of him anyway.

I had no doubt that Chuck was going to end their fake relationship when he went to talk to Sarah. You could just see the disappointment all over Chuck's face during her supposed "confession." He did sort of look like he was going to lean in for a kiss, but I pretty much knew the kiss would not happen...yet.

Not sure what to think of Lou; but cannot wait to see.
