Episode Recap: Double Negative
I feared this day would come. The DNA results are back and Rebecca is not a Walker. She is not William’s daughter. She is not Justin’s sister. She is, however, David’s offspring and now that the news has been confirmed, he has left the building. Holly is alone again and Rebecca is, yet again, fatherless.
You’d think news like this would spread like wildfire, especially in this family, but the thing is, the Walkers need at least a clue that something is up to set the phone-tree off and li’l sis ain’t talking. Either she’s taking a page from her mother and intends to hide another secret from the Walkers or she’s taking some time to absorb the new before she tells everyone. Or maybe she is just waiting for a hint from Justin that he’d prefer it if she were not a blood relation. "I can’t tell… are you happy?” she asked him. A little fishing, perhaps?
Over at the senator’s house, Kitty was expressing her displeasure at Robert’s potential vice-presidential post on his former opponent’s ticket. She was also grieving the fact that none of their embryos were viable. In the midst of these two monumental events in the McAllister household, Robert finally realized that Kitty was happy that he lost his presidential bid. As Kitty went on about her readjusted priorities, Robert pointed out to Kitty that his presidential ambitions were a large part of her attraction to him. Is there hope for this marriage?
Speaking of marriage, Scotty cut his finger at work. That may not seem related but it is. As he bemoaned his lack of health insurance, Kevin proposed they become domestic partners so that he could cover Scotty’s insurance. Ever the romantic, Scotty turned down Kevin’s practical plan because it in no way resembled the dream wedding he had envisioned. We’ll have to wait and see if commitment-phobe Kevin will eventually get down on one knee…
Fresh off of her breakup with Isaac, Nora decided to heal herself through redecorating the house. She later decided to turn her energies elsewhere and create a space for families of sick children to stay while they are away from home. Sarah offered Ojai as a sponsor. Too bad Sarah’s inability to say, “No,” to her boyfriend about his huge deal with a Chinese supermarket, has gotten her and the company into a bind. Uncle Saul went against Sarah’s wishes and behind her back and approved the $20 million deal that, with Plum Food’s bankruptcy, will probably be the end of Ojai. I bet it will be the end of Graham too.
How long will Rebecca hide the truth about her parentage? How long will Robert pretend he wants to have kids with Kitty more than he wants to be in the White House? With two more episodes left in the season, I’m guessing not too long.

I really love this show. It was great tonight. It did seem that Justin wanted the test to come back that they weren't related. I knew that Rebecca wasn't going to tell him the truth.
I feel so bad for Sarah. I wonder if or how she is going to get out of this one.
Does anyone know how old Kitty is? Just curious. I felt so bad for her when she told Robert that it didn't work. Hopefully it will next time.
The kitchen scene in the beginning was real funny. They are great together. I understand why Rebecca wouldn't want to lose being a Walker. Who knows they might of still accepted her as one but when they find out that she really isn't they might not. You know they will eventually find out.

...Annnd this is when I stop caring and stop watching. I might make it through Kevin and Scotty's commitment ceremony and thats it. This whole thing just irks me and is the biggest jump the shark story on TV since April showed up as Luke's daughter.

I am disgusted and outraged that they stooped so low as to de-Walker Rebecca.
Thanks for majorly insulting all long-term viewers of the show. And wrecking a year's worth of storyline by turning into into a big joke.
And for all for a quasi-incestuous, forced romance with Justin? Unbelievable.

Where is Julia?? I'd much rather have her get the on-air time that's currently being devoted to Scotty..... She and little Elizabeth are actual Walkers, after all......

Nooooo...I was hoping it wasn't going to happen, but it did. This single episode pretty much mooted the efforts of season 1 and Kitty telling Rebecca that she looked like William when they first met.

Jump the shark.
Betraying the Rebecca storyline up to this point for the sake of a cheap plot twist is the worst thing one of my shows has ever done.
I was biding my time this year as the show got progressively worse, waiting for it to get good again. I can overlook a lot of crap if I love a show, but not this.
Emily VanCamp once again gave a TERRIFIC performance and rose above the awful material. But not even she can save this.
I'm done.
As far as I am concerned, the series now ended with the season one finale.

I am upset that Rebecca is not a Walker too, but I definitely don't agree that it has ruined the show. I am anxious to see how they are going to keep them on the show and make Rebecca and Holly included in the family. Holly is a piece of work and should be slapped by Rebecca. From the previews for next week, it doesn't look like Rebecca keeps this secret to herself for long. Which I was worried she was going to do, and end up like her mother. I do hope David comes back, he seemed to be in love with the idea of being a family man and was crushed that Holly lied to him all these years just to get ahead financially. If she would have told William that Rebecca was not his, then he would have walked away and would have never left her all the money that he did.

I am somewhat disturbed by the turn of events. I actually found the potentially incestuous attraction between Justin and Rebecca more understandable and tolerable than Rebecca and Holly's chronic and compulsive lying. It truly kills me to see people who valiantly overcome so much distrust, only to be so nonchalantly conned. I give Rebecca credit for feeling bad about her mother's deception, but by covering the truth she is playing the same subtle game the Holly was.

I can't believe they did it, I really thought she was going to stay a Walker. Any chance the test will be revealed to be wrong and she really isn't David's daughter?? It could happen. Ausiello mentioned some big twist we never saw coming regarding Rebecca so let's not give up hope that she really is a walker.....

I was a little surprised when Rebecca decided to lie to Justin about the DNA test but how old is she--20? She found out and then was expected at a big charity function with the Walker clan and I doubt she had time to process the information. She wants a family, she loves the Walkers and she's afraid of what will happen to that relationship if she reveals the truth. She used to be quite manipulative but the writers have softened her character and I think it will be harder for her to look the Walkers in the eye and continue to lie--whether she and Justin have 'feelings' for each other or not. It also seemed as if David and Rebecca mutually agreed that he would leave (when he said something about making everything alright) because she didn't seem surprised when Holly said he'd gone back to New York. And how long before Rebecca tells Holly that she took the DNA test and knows that David is her father?
As an aside, are there no Ronald McDonald Houses in California? I like the possibilities of Nora's planning a home-away-from-home for the family of pediatric cancer patients (good for all her mothering skills) but she sounded as if she'd never heard of anything similar. I can think of several national charities that do that sort of thing so the tone of the scene just threw me off.
I thought Robert and Kitty were on shaky ground until she explained that HIS presidential ambitions she could live with (whether she'd make a good political wife or not) but Robert circumventing his beliefs for political expediency (by considering the veep role) was what she couldn't handle. I think the baby question could be more fatal to the marriage than the politics.

My mother and I are both long-term viewers of the show and neither of us is 'majorly insulted'. In fact, we're not even a little insulted. The fact of the matter is, for me, the reveal could have gone either way and I'd have been happy as long as the story is well told and I can continue to care about the characters. So far they've done nothing to take that away from me. Would I have rather Rebecca told the truth? Sure, but the fact is, I can see where she'd need sometime to cope with the news on her own first. I will continue to tune in each week eagerly to see how all this plays out. If the time ever comes that I can't care about the characters anymore, I'll stop watching, but until then, don't lump me into a category in which I don't belong.

I'm sorry if I inadertently generalized. You are certainly entitled to a difference of opinion.
But I do think this twist cheapened the events of Season 1 considerably. And if you peruse most fan sites, you'll see there is a lot of outrage over this development. Many people feel it was a monumental cheat.
I care about these characters too. But I also care about good storytelling. IMO this was shoddy, retroactive continuity done only for the sake of shock value and to get Rebecca to hook up with Justin.

I find it a little difficult to believe that Rebecca ISN'T a Walker, after all the setting-up they did in Season 1. However, I'm not insulted and I don't see this as jumping the shark (oh how I hate that term and how it's thrown against every plotline that people simply don't like), but I do hope the writers do more with it and don't leave us going, "Huh? What was Season 1 for?"
In GOOD news, it gave Emily VanCamp some great stuff to work with, she did a wonderful job.
As for the Golden Plum bankruptcy, I'm kind of disappointed about that. Sarah needed a good humbling moment, and this will just make her say "I told you so" instead of finding reasons to delegate and trust others' decisions.
