December 28, 2006: "What's Up?"
Finally, finally, we meet Meredith. And she finally meets the guys. Isn't it kind of weird that they don't know her at all? She's surprisingly nice and seems levelheaded, which totally throws me — and the gang — off after hearing such wretched things about her from Andy. "Best-case scenario is grabbing a quick drink at Crowley's while she's out getting her broom waxed."
Of course people are being introduced and things are being revealed in the season finale. Like P.J. and Brando making out back in college and the analysis of that now. Acting it out during poker night was even better.
The scene at Wrigley Field was great, and it took them out of a bar and P.J.'s apartment. I also really liked that Andy's home run was accompanied by champion-like music and slow-motion effects. A quick departure from the norm and then we're back in Crowley's as usual. You gotta love Meredith for making T-shirts and the cake adorned with Andy's giant head (or Bucket Head, as Trouty calls him). I'd like to see more of her now that we know Andy's been making her out to be the bad guy just to avoid looking like a tired 30-year-old who actually likes spending time at home with his family.
The truth was flowing just as fast as the beer in this episode. And just as I predicted, something is stirring between two best friends who know each other better than anyone. We'll see how long that kiss lingers come summer. I have a feeling Bobby is not out of the picture just yet. Maybe a love triangle? I loved Brando's little speech about having feelings for her back then. I think her sporty lifestyle and his Ramones T-shirts fit pretty well together, but if this show lasts, I can see this dragging out for a while (maybe like Ross and Rachel on Friends).
I'll definitely be watching reruns of this new favorite until it returns, with its unusually real laughs about life, love and all things baseball.

I still remember posting somewhere after the first or second episode that I thought there was something between PJ and Brando. So glad to know I was on to something! (or maybe I just wanted it to happen since I think he's so darn cute?)
I also find it hard to believe the guys have never met Meredith. And that sweet, awesome PJ hasn't tried to get to know her sister-in-law better. Especially since there's a niece involved - again, I think PJ would be a super cool aunt.
Also agree with the Wrigley Field scene - I found myself smiling during Andy's slow motion home run. Looked like so much fun - and I especially enjoyed Stephanie yelling at Kenny's call even though it was obvious she had no idea what was going on. Love their unexplained issues.
Do I seriously have to wait til the summer to see what happens here?!? I can't wait to see the result... and I definitely agree that Bobby isn't out of the picture just yet.
Love this show!!! Hurry back.

That was a great finale. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a step up from the previous 2, which were a bit more dramatic than funny.
I liked the myth theme throughout. It was also impressive that they got to shoot at Wrigley. And as any sports fan knows, that was where Ruth's alleged called shot occurred (1932 World Series). So it was great that Andy did a similar thing as Ruth and has a similar body type as the Babe later in his career. Well done by the show.
It also was interesting to know that Meredith really is a nice person. I also don't believe that Andy is 30 years old. I think he was saying that like many people say they are 39 for many years. And also the aunt last night said she took Andy to Planet of the Apes when he was a kid. That was released in the late 60s, so that would put Andy in his early 40s. I was thinking late 30s to early 40s for him, but maybe I am thinking too much of this.
Everyone did see the Brando and PJ connection. It was good to see. I wonder how they are going to deal with that. They seem like a perfect couple who have a lot in common. Brando is one of my favorite characters now on TV. I love that he mentioned Iron Maiden in the episode tonight. And they did release a new album recently. Good job My Boys on that!!
I kinda figured that Kenny was lying about his fight with that other guy. He just doesn't look like a person who would be a great fighter. Poor guy. I also am wondering what the deal his history with Stephanie. There is something there. I actually think they may have slept together once. Maybe they both got drunk at a party and ended up together. Now they regret it or more that Stephanie regrets it.
Great show. I wish it wasn't ending so soon. I agree with a previous poster who wondered why they had to show all these episodes so quickly. I would liked them to start off the series with 2 episodes and then gone to a 1 episode format after that. They could have stretched it out another month. I can't wait for next summer for the new eps.

Wow! That was some kiss! My mouth was hanging open a bit as I watched. Luckily my husband didn't look over and see how stupid I must've looked! I just love this show. Its been a lot of fun to watch this month and I wish it wasn't over so soon. But thanks TBS for bringing it back this summer!

That was me that wondered why they doubled up the episode viewings. We would have had to wait a month less for the return if they had spread it out. Also, what do actors do when a series is so long out of production? Don't they need to work in between? What if they get a better offer while on hiatus. That would suck if any of these people left. I wonder the same thing about Crossing Jordan. What are the actors doing in the meantime?
I love My Boys and will await its return, just like Kyle XY and Psych, Wildfire and all the other teaser shows I'm hooked on.

Stephanie's hatred of Kenny is hilarious, although I'm hoping it isn't because they slept together. Maybe she really liked him and he missed it and she's mad. Or maybe it's some imagined slight. The scene where she pretends to remember Brando blowing PJ off in the library was funny - "Basically, I remember being dropped off freshman year, and the rest is a blur." My favorite exchange, though, was Kenny saying to Andy as PJ is about to reenact the blow off, "I love live theater." Andy: "These are great seats." You are right, Andy DOES get all the greatest throw-away lines. And no way is his character supposed to be 30. FYI, the actress playing Meredith is his real-life wife, Jeannie Noth Gaffigan.

I love this show! I can't wait for it to return this summer!
Judging from the previews, I always thought Stephanie would end up with Brendan because she has her hand on his shoulder. I thought Bobby was intended for PJ. I am so glad to see that is not the case. There is no chemistry between Bobby and PJ. Brendan, on the other hand, WOW! Who doesn't want a HOT best friend to fall for. I can't think of a better situation. I hope this is the long term romance for the show. Come back soon!

Just for the record, IMDB.com says that Jim Gaffigan was born in 1966 so, yeah, that makes him 40 not 30 in real life. And no offense to Mr. Gaffigan, but he looks like a 40 year-old guy. He's got that "lived in," married with kids kind of look. Not that there's anything wrong with that! In fact, that's probably part of what makes his character so appealing. He's a nice counter-balance to the slightly more immature single guys. And I also agree that PJ not knowing Meredith well is unrealistic. We know a little about PJ and Andy and it sounds like they come from a pretty secure, down-to-earth, average American family. Meredith and Andy's wedding had to be one of the six bridesmaids, bridal shower, engagement party, nice reception with a band kind of thing. No way PJ escaped getting to know Meredith even just a little bit with all that. I think this is where the show's male-dominated production team shows a weakness.

It's not exactly a shocker for actors to play roles much younger than they actually are. Just watch any teen drama.
That being said, I think Andy saying he was 30 was supposed to be a joke because of the way he said it.
I really liked Meredith (and yes, I knew she is Jim Gaffigan's real wife, it said so in the little info bar thingy on my TV) and I thought it was funny and realistic that Andy was demonizing her just so he wouldn't get flack from the guys about being boring. And it makes sense that they've never met her before. No doubt Andy has his "grown-up friends", people from work and husbands of Meredith's friends that he hangs out with when he's with her and then the guys and PJ are his play friends so he'd like to keep it separate. (George Costanza explained it best.) Mike and Kenny had never been to each other's apartments until an episode previously this year and they seem to have been friends a long time.
The side story with Kenny and Mexican Freddie was a bit confusing.
Favorite moments: PJ, Bobby and Mike reenacting the infamous "what's up?" in the library.
Mike taking Bobby's hand when PJ tells him to be Stephanie.
Stephanie jumping in Andy's place just to get into a fight with Kenny.
Stephanie trying to pretend that she remembered the "what's up".
The end part of PJ and Brando's conversation about how Bobby lied that his grandfather was the voice of Yogi Bear. (Lol, I loved that!)
And finally, the best scene was PJ and Brando kissing. I agree that they have way more chemistry than PJ and Bobby but I hope this is handled well so as not to ruin the overall chemistry of th group.

Love the show, but if they turn this into a Ross and Rachel 7 year roller coaster, I'm walikng out the door. That's been done time and time again.
I love how this comedy is more realistic than others TV shows. I'd hope for them to come up with better ideas than just stringing us along forever. What happens in a group of friends when two people start dating? That would be fun to watch with the guys taking sides when there's a fight or PJ getting jealous over things Brando does that used to never bother her before - stuff like that.

Just re-watched my Tivo'd episode and, yes, I think the "I'm only 30" was a joke/throw-away line. Andy is talking about how Meredith will only "suck the life" out of PJ and then he says "Look at me. I'm only 30." It was said in such a deadpan way, though, it was easy to take it at face value. Jim Gaffigan should be nominated for an Emmy!

Loved the episode, I thought it was a great one to keep us hanging on until this summer.
I must be in the minority because I like PJ with Bobby, I think the episode where they were trying to figure out dating was hilarious and I have always found it interesting that Bobby fit right into the group after that.
I like the relationship between PJ and Brendan the way it was but I guess it had to come to this. LOL!
I didn't see anything that stated that Meredith was Andy's real wife so I found that interesting, thanks for whoever brought that up.
Anyway I know I will be watching these episodes over and over until this summer. Hopefully it will get here quickly.

I don't think it is completely unrelistic that PJ didn't know Meredith very well. After people get married, everything seems to change. They tend to do things more with other married people. Even if they are family members. And people get busy and just lose touch or in this case Andy telling PJ all these years about her flaws. So PJ probably didn't pursue a relationship with her because of this.
The show was created by a woman and most of the eps were written by women. Men can't be blamed this time for any failings of the writing of relationships, even though I don't think they failed there.

I adore this show! I just watched the entire season yesterday (had it saved on my DVR) and I am HOOKED! As a Chicagoan, I can say that it gets Chicago just right! But Andy being 30? That's a bit of a stretch, no?
