« The Biggest Loser: Couples
Recap: Episode 12
Continuing where last week’s episode left off, we find out whether it will be Brittany or Maggie who is voted out. Dan gets the ball rolling, using his 2 votes to send Maggie home. Everyone but Kelly follows suit leaving Maggie as the next person to exit the Biggest Loser campus. As usual, we get a glimpse as to how she's doing in the present, and not surprisingly, Maggie's doing great. With that, the episode has flown by, oh wait, it’s only just begun!
The remaining players venture to Macy’s to get dressed for a Prevention Magazine shoot. And who better to style them, but Project Runway’s Tim Gunn. We even got a “make it work” as he sent the kiddies off to go play in the store. Roger goes for the wilder look and Tim’s face is pure terror. Kelly tries to go girly but ends up dowdy. Because we all know what happens when you leave the styling up to amateurs, Tim steps in and picks out an outfit to fit each person’s personality and style. He pulls out a dress for Ali and she's stunned that it’s her size. And I know you all think Dan is cocky, but I thought he was pretty funny talking about how he’d rock the runway better than everyone else. Tim reveals the hot little number he set aside for Brittany and you can tell she’s freaked out.
First up on the runway was Mark. With his hand on his hip like I thought, he’s enjoying this way too much. Of course they surprised him with his wife which set off the waterworks. Jay looked completely different to me, I think it was the haircut, but nonetheless, a great improvement. And it was very sweet when he realized his wife was there and aww, seeing Tim wipe his tear warmed my heart. I have to say Kelly was un-recognizable, she looked fabulous, as did Ali, who sported a new, shorter do.
Unfortunately the pampering and family time was over all too soon, and it was time for this week’s challenge which was all about endurance. The players had to stay on a treadmill raised above water and to make it even harder, they had to walk backwards. After about 40 minutes, which is impressive to say the least, Kelly dropped. Next was Roger, Dan and Brittany. Jay lasted almost an hour before giving up. Ali got so close but in the end, the challenge king Mark, won.
At the weigh-in, Ali lost another 5 pounds. Mark, who only lost 3, was able to finally get his 100 pound weight loss. Dan redeemed himself from the previous week and lost 8 pounds, moving him into the 100 weight range. Brittany only lost 2 pounds and while she put on a happy face, Jillian didn’t deny her frustration. Roger lost 9 but Jay only lost 3. Kelly lost 3 as well, pushing Jay below the yellow line with Brittany.
On the campus, some major strategizing was going on. The votes were pretty much decided unless Brittany could sway Dan to keep her there, which she argued would be beneficial to him in the end. He decided instead to vote with his alliance, forcing Brittany to become the next eliminated player. Though I would have liked to see her make it to the end, she did skate along farther than she should have. But all is well because she’s clearly keeping up her routine at home. She looks and feels wonderful and skydives her way to a new lease on life.
With only Ali and Kelly, is there still a chance for this season to have its first female biggest loser? Or will the men pick them off one by one?

We already know that this show has the worst editors in the business but they really screwed up last night. At the very beginning, BEFORE Dan revealed who he voted for, you can clearly see his two votes for Maggie. Just bugs me the way this show is put together.
I didn't understand why Mark cried so hard about his wife. He's been home once during the game and had just been home for 2 weeks after being eliminated. I guess he's just a cry-baby.
Kelly looked the best. Thank goodness they did something about her hair!! Straight looks much better on her!

Can't say I liked Dan's new hair. And Mark is only five pounds heavier than his trainer? In what world? Best makeover goes to Kelly, I think. Straight hair looks so much better on her.

The makeovers were great. I could not believe Brittany was (almost) all out there! I also loved Kelly's hair - she looked so confident after the makeover.
On another note, the product placement has to go. I cannot believe Jackie (Dan's mom) completely forgot an unopened box of vitamins from her dresser!!! C'mon. She couldn't use the ziploc bags to collect her items? Sheesh.

lawlib, I have to agree with you...all the product placements are really lame but last night's vitamin pitch was the most contrived I've ever seen on the show! So random and awkward...
I'm at my wit's end with Dan and his cockiness. Honestly, it gets worse and worse every week and this whole makeover thing caused his big head to get even bigger. It's so funny that he's convinced he can be a rock star when he's clearly such a nerdy dork!
Is it just me, or did Brittany's bust look a little "perky" for having lost all that weight? I'm not necessarily saying they're fake but I've had friends that have lost a lot of weight and those things don't typically stay so "high and mighty", if you know what I mean! Either way, she looked hot in that dress. I think Ali looked best in her dress but Kelly did have the best makeover...and she needed it the most. She looked very feminine for once.
I'm a little surprised to say that I'm actually not hating Mark as much as I used to. The cry-baby thing is really annoying but he's toned down the competitiveness which obviously bothers Roger. It's like they've traded places. I guess Mark getting sent home and rethining his actions made him realize what a jerk he had been. At least he had that revelation.
Let's hope the girls can keep it going next week...although it's doubtful with the previous female track record on the show.

This show might have to go 2 versions, a male and a female. It's almost impossible for a woman to lose at the same rate as a man. I'd love to see a woman win it all, but I don't think it can happen.

One welcome change that I noticed was Kelly finally showing some gumption. When she pushed back on the boys trying to get her to vote against Brittany, she said "no" and even let them have it for giving her a hard time. I'm really hoping that abject, timid Kelly is going bye-bye. She still has quite a bit of weight to lose so maybe she can rev it up in the coming weeks and really drop some poundage and make it into the finals. And maybe now that Jillian isn't working overtime with her "little sister" Brittany, Kelly will benefit.

Anybody care to comment on Ali's vote for Brittany? What was up with that? We all knew Brit was going home anyway, but I was surprised that Ali voted Brittany to leave.

SuzyBaby, Brittany was one of the water weighters who got Ali and her Mom voted out. She had no loyalty at all to Brittany but did have alliances with the guys from the beginning. It was definitely in her best interest to stick with the guys.
What gets me is why Kelli didn't vote for Brittany. She and Paul were both ostracized by Britt, Maggie and Bernie and Britt would have thrown her under the bus in a heartbeat. If memory serves me correctly, Kellie was saved by the guys (in particular the Gray Team) from being eliminated at least twice. I don't think Roger bullied her at all, I think he was frustrated because he helped her in the past and she was blowing him off.
My predition, Kelli will be gone the next time she falls below the yellow line.

I have to disagree Cosmo123- Ali will be the first to go out of the "guys", so I don't think it's in her best interest to stick with them.
Oh well, It doesn't matter anyway since Dan voted for Brit to leave. Speaking of, Dan is such a big talker, what was all that crap about voting out the biggest threat?
I think by now they should all realize how tight the guy's alliance is. I really want to see two of them go below the yellow line and them have to vote one of their own out.

Kikiki, they might vote her out over one of the guys but she would definitely stay over Kelli if those two were below the line. And I would speculate that if it were Ali and Dan that they might keep Ali since she was an initial ally and he wasn't......also she really isn't a threat to take the title since she can't drop the percentage one of the guys can because her starting weight wasn't high enough to realistically be able to drop over 50% of body weight.

Glad to see I wasn't the only person who caught Dan's votes shown before he said anything. I had to rewind it just to make sure I didn't see something wrong. But in the end it didn't matter, we all knew Maggie was going home, thanks to the lovely photos shown here on TV GUIDE (thanks for that).
I was very surprised that Dan didn't vote for Jay. He has to realize that Jay is a threat to beat him in the end. And if it ends up being the 4 guys Dan is gone first. However, I don't see Mark hanging around much longer, he just doesn't have the weight to drop big numbers any more. In the end I think Dan might have talked to Roger who wasn't ready to break the team yet. And rather then be the lone wolf he needed to stay with the team.

I am glad that I'm not the only one who has seen just about enough of Dan. The more weight he loses the bigger his attitude and ego get.
The best part of this episode for me was Tim Gunn. Love him on Project Runway and loved him last night. He seemed genuinely proud of all the contestants when they walked the cat walk and he has not even been with them since the beginning and seen how far they all have come.

I get what you're saying Cosmo123- good points. I think the guys are going to stick together if at all possible though.
I don't even know who I want to be the Biggest Loser at this point. I guess when it comes down to it they have all worked hard and deserve it. Although I don't really think it should be Ali or Mark since they've already been voted off once.

Thanks, cosmo123 for the comments. Ali does seem more like "one of the guys". Speaking of those guys, it's great that they can shed the pounds faster than the women, but must they be so obnoxious? Yes, everyone has already commented on this, but gosh, on the one hand, you like to see everybody drop good numbers for the weigh-ins, but I'm torn because Roger is such a mean bully sometimes that I find myself half-hoping he has a bad week so he goes below the line and has to GO. (Dan's cocky too, yes, but I'll cut him a BIT of slack because he's a kid!)
