« The Biggest Loser: Couples
Recap: Episode 10
Bernie’s gone! I usually don’t start off by commenting on the week’s eliminated player but this time, I feel it’s necessary. Bernie brought such humor to the campus and I would have loved to see him go all the way to the finals. Now that I've said that...the temptation challenge this episode provided was one we’ve all faced. I admit it, there are many a times when 3 o’clock rolls around and the dreaded vending machine looms in my mind. But not once have I ever gotten a pack a gum worth a thousand bucks, like Roger, Dan and Bernie who for them, the vending machine proved fruitful. I did enjoy watching Dan suffer through the many sweet and savory delights until he could utter, “That’s what I’m talking about.” For 5 of the contestants, the trip to the vending machine also provided a 1 pound pass to be used at the next weigh-in. Unfortunately for Kelly, she didn’t get either the cash or the pass.
Bernie received his prized for being biggest loser of the week. After climbing the mountain it was revealed that, like in the earlier weeks, he’d get to choose between family, luxury, and game-play. A no-brainer, he chose game-play. Little did he know, his prize would be his demise. Another homage to the first week was their return trip to the hospital. Each person took many of the tests they did 10 weeks prior, only this time learning they were headed down the right path. For Kelly, her weight-loss meant a hopeful future that didn’t include miscarriages. For Roger, his sleep apnea had improved by 50%. They also had a special guest. Dr. Jeff from season 2 spoke about being an “obesity survivor.” Roger was so inspired he said he’d write a book about the healthy way to tailgate.
Back on campus it was time for the challenge. Do you think going on a zip line across a ravine sounds fun? Well to most of the contestants it meant facing their fear of heights. Everyone, except Maggie who elected to be the Black member that had to sit out, excelled, leaving their terror in the dust. Blue was able to edge out Black, winning the prize of being fighter pilots for the day.
At the weigh-in we knew something major was going to be revealed. (They had only previewed it a million times). It was time for teams to be dissolved and the yellow line to return. Before anyone stepped on the scale, they learned that Bernie had been able to grant immunity to anyone but himself, and that he chose Brittany as the recipient. She then weighed in and lost 5 pounds. Everyone continued to lose more than 5 pounds a piece with Roger hitting his 100 pound milestone. In the end, Bernie and Kelly fell below the yellow line, leaving no doubt that a Black team member would be leaving us. Due to his ability to pull big numbers, Blue decided Bernie’s fate was to leave the campus.
Was everyone disappointed in this week’s outcome? Who should go next?

Nooo!!! I was sooo rooting for Bernie. He looked fantastic in the scenes from home. Maybe he can whip Mark and take home the $100 grand for those sent home. I really thought they might send Kelly, but her times coming. The "blue" guys know the men are their real competition so they sent Bernie. It's just a matter of time before they pick off the girls one by one. I hope Brittany goes first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did they have to participate in the temptation? I was confused about that. I think I would have passed on that one also.
Glad to hear they are all doing good health wise. Man, there are some serious man boobs happening, I wonder if that is why the guys are keeping their shirts on now.....
Keep up the good work!!!!

Our satellite connection crapped out during the deliberations and voting only to come back on to reveal that Bernie was being voted off. Would anyone care to recap how the actual voting went and the reasoning the individuals gave? Thanks!

As far as the voting goes, Roger was the only one that gave a solid reason for voting Bernie - he promised Kelly and Paul that he had their backs earlier in the season when they voted to keep Roger and Trent. I can't remember what Jay and Dan mumbled, but it was something about Bernie being a threat.
I was so sad to see him go. I really liked him and his Bern-dana. I'm now rooting for Brittany.

Kelly, my dear, I've used so many prayers on you so far just to keep you in the game, but eventually you have to start staying above the yellow line on your own. God only owes me so many favours here. No more chocolate. Just promise me that.
K. Thanks.

I too will miss Bernie - he wasn't nearly as snotty as the other two youngsters on the Black team. I like Kelly alright but she is a bit whiny and negative, hope she eventually comes out of that. A positive attitude can take you much farther in life.
I wish Bernie had not given immunity to Brittany and that she would have been sent packing instead. I am soooo tired of her snarky comments and eye rolling. Grow Up!
My prediction for next week - Jenn and Brittany below the yellow line with (hopefully) Brittany outed but either would be fine with me.
Go Roger!

I think Bernie should have had to tell who was getting immunity before announcing it would be individual weigh ins. If so, would Brittany still be around to roll those snotty eyes of hers?
GO ROGER! pride on 3

So sorry to see Bernie go. He has a great attitude and hopefully will go far on his own (maybe in the money?)
Hopefully, now that she can no longer ride on Bernie's coattails, Brittany will be the next to go!!!!!!!

I'm not sure who I want to end up winning.
While I was eating my "cream filled cookies" and "chocolate wafers" (I thought there was no such thing as bad publicity!? Would it have been slander or libel (or whatever) to have said Oreos? Kit-Kats?) I realized I don't care quite as much as past seasons.
Dan? No, I don't think I want him to win. I'm glad he's more confident but he's also more cockily confident: "Blue team controls this game!" Oh, shut your trap. Take your $9500 and go. That's what I'm talking about.
Boom-shaka-laka.
But if he does? I probably won't care that much. But you know, I wouldn't mind seeing Bob lose. I don't really dislike Roger or Jay too much but it might be nice to see Bob's members lose--just to prove stacking your team at the beginning doesn't automatically make your team win.
I wouldn't mind seeing Bob taken down a peg. And then hopefully next season we can start over fresh with him because, normally, I really enjoy him.

Cosmo, who's Jenn... Don't you mean Maggie?
As for all the people who said the Brittany would have gone is Bernie didn't give her immunity, can't disagree with you more there. There is no way that the Blue team would have kept Kelly then. There is no fear of Brittany winning this thing, but they all told Kelly she was a "threat". So if it was Kelly and Brittany, Kelly would have gone.

amarty33, you are right it's Maggie (Jenn was her partner that was sent packing a few weeks ago). I get those two mixed up......

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! I was really hoping it would have been Kelly to go home. I love Bernie and I'm going to miss him. I wanted Kelly and her whining and crying to go home. I just can't take it anymore (I actually switch the channel when I feel like she's about to cry AGAIN). But with her negative attitude, it may be hard for her to keep the lbs. off after she leaves the ranch. Anyone else get that feeling?
Well I guess I'll bump Roger up to the top of my list. Good for him for being the first to lose 100 lbs (mind you, Dan wasn't as cocky this episode and he's lost 99 lbs. so far - it'll be a good push for Roger to keep it up).

i agree with all that's been said so far. i'll miss bernie.
but Robyn, you asked about the zip line. as soon as i saw that zip line and giant canyon i said out loud "OMG, NO!!" i did a zip line that was over a huge canyon like that about 20 years ago or so. it went over a deep, deep canyon with a river at the bottom. our zip line didnt go out, but down! AND, on top of that, you free-falled(?) six frickin FEET, then went on down the canyon and across to the other side.
i am only slightly ashamed to admit that i was a blubbering mess and ended up sitting on the very edge of the rock and then scooting myself over. if i could do it now, i'd jump right out over the edge. by the time i was over the canyon it was a BLAST! and we shot across the flat land on the other side for a long ways too. it was so much fun. but scary as hell when you're standing on that cliff trying to jump--or scoot your a$$---off!!

Brittany is the one who keeps me watching this slow show. Why they drew it out to two hours is beyond me. Thank God for Fast Forwarding! It is obvious that one of the big guys will win, but I love how Jillian has helped the black team win against such odds most of the season.
