« The Biggest Loser: Couples
Recap: Episode 9
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but apparently this doesn’t translate to the scale. What a week for the Biggest Loser competitors. At the beginning of the episode, Jay received his prize for being the biggest loser of the week. As a twist he had to pick from 3 unmarked envelopes. When he opened his up, it said, “Vegas, baby, Vegas” which could only mean, road trip! The boys of the Blue team were headed to Vegas for one fun filled night of debauchery, and I guess a workout here and there as well.
To my surprise and Bob’s delight, the moment the boys check-in to the hotel, they head straight for the gym. I guess if they got their workout done early then they’d have the whole night to have fun. When they got back to their rooms, “Bob” aka the producers, left suits for them so they’d get a taste of feeling like royalty. Black also left them a treat in the form of room service, hoping the greasy food and sweet desserts would appeal to their temptations. But alas they resisted and headed out for a night on the town. First they rode the slingshot ride at the Stratosphere and then resorted to gambling. A few hours in, the brothers decide to call it a night so that they can wake up early to workout. I guess that’s called dedication but I also like to call it, Boring! Dan and Roger live it up and don’t come home until 6 am. When Mark and Jay come back from the gym, they wake Dan up, who’s not happy about it having his sleep disrupted, and wake Roger up, who’s not happy they didn’t drag him to the gym. I do have to say that Roger was a trooper and headed there anyway, despite sleeping for just 3 hours. The short va-cay comes to an end but not before the little fraternity known as Blue goes to the tattoo parlor. Even though they mentioned it earlier I did not think they’d go through with it but all 4 boys return to the campus with new tattoos.
Back to reality, or at least Biggest Loser reality, and it’s time for the challenge. It’s an obstacle course, which doesn’t excite Black, especially Kelly. They lagged behind Blue the entire competition leading to another Blue victory and this time, an all expenses paid trip to Puerto Rico. What a week to be a winner.
Jillian kicks some Brittany booty during the last chance work-out, as she hasn’t been able to pull a large number and right now it’s their only hope to stay in the game. They weigh in first and do very well. Kelly loses 6, Maggie 8, Brittany 6 and Bernie 10. They were finally able to breathe a bit easier knowing it would take a lot for Blue to reach a higher percentage. Though the boys fare pretty well, Mark hits a slump by only losing 1 pound. They certainly have a tough deliberation ahead as Dan has immunity and the brothers are an alliance. Mark finally decides to do the right thing and volunteers to go home as Roger and his 8 pound loss doesn’t deserve to leave just yet. The last 30 minutes of the episode had more tears than ever. Blue has a strong bond they weren’t prepared to break.
Did Mark make a smart choice or should he have saved himself? And who thinks Dan is going to regret that tattoo down the road?

I only saw the last 30 minutes of tonight's episode and I have to say...I haven't seen girls cry that much since the funeral scene in Steel Magnolias. Good lord!

Dan is really starting to become a prat! I liked him up until the week after his mom left. Then, little by little, he started getting too cocky. And this week was really the worst yet. I'm glad to see from the previews that the teams will be ending.
The whole crying thing annoyed me. I don't know what it was exactly--maybe Roger's insistence that Mark sacrifice himself just because he said something about that weeks earlier.
I like people to keep their word. And I normally dislike Mark...but Roger seemed to be kind of a baby about it: "But you said!!"
Mark has one off week and it's assumed he can never have another good week? Just because he's already the smallest guy there? We all know that doesn't mean anything!
Ehh. OK. But I guess in the end I was glad they worked it out, though with many tears shed. They know they can all see each other again, right?
And I have to agree with the Black Team about the tattoos... Will the Blue Team still think that was a good idea 10 years from now? Or even 4 months when the show is completely over and they go back to their regular lives?
I was also surprised they did go through with it. I thought they might decide to still get tattoos but without that awful "PRIDE!" slogan... Well, I'll just be glad it wasn't my tattoo...

That's what rubbed me the wrong way. These guys are on a game show, for heaven's sake. I don't think more tears are shed in a room full of soldiers heading off for Iraq. Let's have a bit of perspective, shall we? Good lord!
I think that's Mark's ego talking when he says he's now sporting 32 waist pants. He's got 40 pounds on me, we're about the same height, and that's my size, so unless he's now built like Mr. Incredible, I ain't buyin it. Of course, he may just be sucking it in and letting the bulge do what bulges do. Sounds comfy, no? Congrats on the weight loss, Mark, but good riddance nonetheless. Now get home quick and yank those danish out of your children's mouths.
Cruciatus, no kidding about Dan. To make a comment about how weak Team Black is sure is the height of hubris, IMO. Gee, shocking that 4 dudes with about half a ton between them dusts 3 ladies and a guy of 200 lbs. doing an obstacle course that included tires that probably were pushing 300 lbs. The most lopsided challenge yet? I think so.
Can't wait for the teams to dissolve so we can see everyone stand on their own. If nothing else, we'll hopefully be spared any more of those 30 min. kleenex-fests like last night.
Where were the shameless plugs for gum and baggies and sub-shops? Did I miss them?

I agree with the comments about Dan. And can he please get a hair cut?? Happy to see the Black team hand it to them at the weigh-in. I hope the Black team can keep the momentum going next week...well, if there is a Black team!
I was shocked when Mark agreed to go. That could not have been an easy decision. Everyone on the campus has had a slow week from time to time, but I didn't think it was fair that he go before Jay. Jay traditionally had low numbers throughout most of the competition compared to Mark. Anyway, I thought that was more than an honorable thing to do.

I had to mute the TV when the guys just kept blubbering and blubbering. It was soooo annoying. Because of the strike, this show is 1 hour too long. It seemed to drag on last night. After the 1st hour, I said to my boyfriend, I couldn't believe that it was ONLY 9pm.
Also, I couldn't believe Jillian had Brittany on the treadmill at 14mph. I was getting sick just watching her attempt to do that. My boyfriend got up to see how fast our treadmill went. Ours only goes up to 10mph and it sounded like a freakin jet taking off. I can't even imagine how fast 14mph.
Lastly, I thought the tattoos were DUMB. Dan is a complete DORK and now he's a dork with a stupid tattoo.(I dont think all tattoos are dumb, just the ones the guys got last night). It just seemed impulsive and I'm sure some of them are going to regret getting them later. Besides, wasn't it painful to workout after getting them?? They need time to heal, so I'm sure there was some soreness there.

Someone mentioned Jay going instead of Mark or Rodger, I agree, but could you imagine the crying that would have happened if Mark had to vote for Jay???? I understand it's emotional and all but PLEASE.
Also did anyone else notice that the only original couple left is Brittnay and Bernie? Seems odd that they were the only ones who didn't go into this as a "couple" they were thrown together and they have outlasted all the others. It also seems odd that no "couple" has been fully eliminated since they went to the 2 teams. Each week it was one person from a different original pair. I would have thought that they would have picked off teams, I guess with the immunity last night Dan saved himself or that would have been the end of Orange.

I'm so sick of Dan and his cocky attitude. And being a musician myself with 5 tattoos, I have to say that his little "song" and the ink he chose was completely ridiculous. I was almost kind of embarrassed for him...but it made me dislike him even more. And although it's refreshing to see guys who can be emotional and open about their feelings, that got annoying and weird really quickly. Oh, and if they got those tattoos the same day they returned to the ranch, they should have still had the gauze on them for healing purposes. I'm sure the producers never would have allowed that though...not as good for TV.

I was having issues with Dan too. I've been rooting for him to win since the beginning, but last night he just annoyed me. Weight loss comes with increased confidence and it'll take a while for that to settle back down into normalcy.
I think of those left, I like Kelly the most, but I doubt she'll win it. I wish she would, but I just can't see it.

When I got my tattoo, I only had to keep my tattoo covered with gauze for about an hour. So they weren't necessarily told by the show to remove the gauze to make for better TV.
For those that don't like the tattoos...who cares! Tattoos are personal and don't need the approval of others. I think it was great that they got tattoos. It will be a reminder for them of that time in their life where they decided to make some changes to better themselves and be healthy.

I was so sad that Dan got immunity last night. While I don't like Mark, Dan deserved to be booted just for his behavior in Vegas. Add that to the cockiness we saw and I can't stand the kid.
I still like Brittany and am rooting for her or Bernie to pull it off.

I'm glad Mark is gone. Roger is great and he was right Mark needed to go home. I can't wait for Dan to go home. All the crying was ridiculous.
