« The Biggest Loser: Couples
Recap: Episode 7
Tonight’s episode was just ok for me. It began where we left off last week, right after the shocking elimination. Dan came back visibly upset by the loss of his mom and ironically the Black team was there to support him, even asking Jillian to take him on as a trainee.
Bernie got his “biggest loser” prize and wisely chooses game play. The card reads that he gets 50% off at the next challenge. Bernie, and myself, wondered what that would come to mean.
Back on the Blue team, Dan was alienating himself and couldn’t get over how the elimination had unfolded. But as a strategic move, he tells his team he understands someone had to go and that it was unfortunate it had to be his mom. The brothers responded well and apologized for lying. After a good heart to heart, Blue seems to emerge strong, unified, and very cocky. The challenge seems complicated at first, but it was actually quite simple. Two pairs from each team have to balance the amount of combined weight they have lost. And for Bernie this means only half of his weight. The winning team would be able to grant immunity to 2 people, 1 from each team. In the midst of the challenge, did anyone catch Mark mouthing off to Allison? Though it was subtle, he told her to stop being so dramatic. This further cemented my ill feelings towards him. To my delight, Black wins when both Blue pairs fall in the water.
During the next work-out, Maggie breaks down about her past and present relationships, leading Jillian to bring in a psychotherapist. And who is this person, none other than her mom! Each Black member sits down one-on-one with her (except for Maggie, which was surprising considering she’s who prompted Jillian to have her mom come in the first place. I’m guessing that was edited out). We see a recurring theme and it really becomes apparent that a majority of those who are overweight have had pretty difficult pasts. And, if it’s worth mentioning, Bob’s team opted out of seeing Jillian’s mom and felt it was better to “walk it out than talk it out.”
At the weigh-in, Bernie announces they would give their immunity to Jay and that Maggie was the one who lucked out and would be granted it on Black. Kelly then hops on the scale and starts their team off strong. She loses 8, Paul loses 10, Bernie loses 7 and then it comes to a halt. Brittany only loses 1 pound and Maggie 2. But somehow they pulled out a victory because even with Roger and Trent having high numbers, overall it’s not enough to garner a win. The elimination plays out as it was supposed to last week with Trent volunteering to go home and the brothers keeping their word. Trent is a stand-up guy and I loved that NBC devoted a pretty substantial amount of time to his follow-up. As it was said earlier in the episode, Trent was never there for the money but to get himself healthy and he seems to be accomplishing that with the support of his family and school.
So what did everyone think of the episode? Do you think anyone, if not everyone, will struggle when they’re sent home next week? For more of The Biggest Loser, check out our Online Video Guide

Great recap. This season they really need to be painting Bob as the butwipe and gillian as the one with the heart.Interesting ">. Does anyone know when this season was filmed in relation to last season. A trainer last a weighin by one pound last season, but I can not remember if it was B or G. Don't have a favorite team of this batch. Hoping for a Pink victory for the at home group.

I missed why the black team chose Jay instead of Dan to protect. Was that strategy because Dan is a contender? I suppose it wouldn't matter since Trent was already marked.
Speaking of Mark, he's a class A jerk. I feel sorry for his wife because you know that's just how he treats her at home. He did mouth off to Allison and she didn't overlook it. I don't think it was edited to look like she was as shocked as the rest of us. I know "villians" always emerge as a result of editing, etc., but I just don't think you can fake that kind of arrogance. I was glad to see the blue team go down and by just one pound. That just adds insult to injury in my book. Plus, it gives Bob pause to think that perhaps he's not as smart as he thought he was for stacking the team as he did.
As much as I like the black team and am rooting for them, I think Maggie or Britney should go. Their numbers stink and they just bring everyone down. Paul and Kelly are rockin' and Bernie is keeping up, yet Maggie and Britney are consistently at the bottom of the chart.
I wonder what will happen when the teams go home next week. Gillian calls it "tragic"....hmmmm.

An additional thought, I didn't get to see last week's episode until a couple of days ago. I think the producers made it easy for stress-fracture boy and staged the food "challenge" just to keep him in the game. Anyone else think that?

I feel bad for Trent. I know he wasn't in it for the game aspect--and I respect that. He just wanted to go home and lose weight with his family...and next week those remaining will go home...and try to lose weight with their families. Sigh. Poor guy. I know there is no way anyone could have known family time was coming...but it's a shame because it should have been Mark.
But he left well and I'm sure he'll make the changes he needs to. I also liked that Biggest Loser gave him a lengthy segment at the end.
Mark. Ugh. A major disappointment of Trent leaving is that it leaves us with Mark. And I think Trent would have voted against Mark at some point...had he not sacrificed himself. But now Mark's chances of winning have slightly increased. Slightly. Black team isn't a fan of his so I can just hope they keep winning (and I not-so-secretly enjoy Bob losing these days).

I was so sad to see Trent go home, he was the only player on that team that I even liked. But he definitely has class and I'm sure he will be at the top of the stack by the final weigh in. Mark on the other hand... what a jerk. Couldn't believe his comments to Allison. I suppose he is more of a dish it out but can't take it type of guy. And Bob! I've always liked Bob (all of the trainers, actually), but I didn't understand why he walked out at the weigh in. Why would he walk out on his team? No wonder Jay felt so guilty. Or was he just embarrassed because Jillian seems to be able to eek out more potential from her team. Who knows. Next week should be interesting. I saw a lot of bad food - it seems like the players home support system is more of the "enabling the bad behavior" variety.

Jay just doesn't lose weight, so I can see why he was given immunity, but I really wanted Dan to have it. Mark needs to go. At least the one who did end up going is one of the two I can't stand to see shirtless.
I don't know what is going on with Bob this season. He's being a bit of a jerk. It may be because he's surrounded by men -- and not just men but chest-thumping "I Tarzan" "look we're thugs!" men. I presume it's something like when I'm around my brother -- suddenly I start acting butcher for no apparent reason even though it's not me. It annoys me when I do it -- it annoys me when Bob does it.

We don't know if Bob really walked out on his team, or if they edited it to look that way. For all we know he was leaving the room, just like Jillian and this is how the producers decided to portray it..I still love Bob and I think Jillian is a fantastic trainer also. Previous years they have always shown Bob as the touchy feely guy and Jillian the hard a**, but to be a good trainer you have to be able to tackle the issues that arise with this process. I am sure Jillian has been touchy feely all these seasons. They are finally showing it...

With these long, long episodes I tend to fade in and out while doing other things. So what did Mark say to Allison?
Trent looks great! Keep it up, and congratulations!

i'm also disappointed to see trent go. i totally get that he wants to see his family, but i think he had a really good shot at winning the whole thing. certainly a fan favorite prize (do they do that, or am i mixing my reality shows?).
completely agree about mark, and jay too. they are rude, arrogant (read: INSECURE!!), and poor sports. his "this isnt a soap opera" comment to ali was condescending and rude, and showed perfectly what a sore loser he is.
another of the reasons i'm bummed trent left is because jay got to stay. my evil streak would have LOVED to see how much it messed up mark ">
i'm glad they got into the emotional issues, that's actually helpful. all overweight people and addicts of any kind know that you dont get that way b/c you are a secure, confident, self-loving person. and how beautiful was jillian's mom!?!?!? WOW!
i'm confused about this complete role reversal in bob and jillian. obviosuly a lot of what we see is editing, but i dont understand why they would even edit it that way. what's the point?
paul's childhood story was just awful, and i am impressed and glad for him that he got it out. to get it out on national television probably will help him a lot considering he hadnt told anybody. obviosuly shame was a big part of how he felt as a kid, and i'm glad someone was able to tell him point-blank that it was his father who was in the worng, and that he was a weak man. you could see that was the first time paul had heard that, and i'm glad jillian's mom explained it to him and made him really HEAR her when she said it. it's true, abusers of any kind are just weak people living in denial.
i dont understand why kelly was so sure she was the one going home. did somethig happen, or was she just feeling that way on her own?

carol, during a challenge ali was doing the regular commentary, nothing out of the ordinary, but mark was really struggling and he snapped at her: "quit being so dramatic, this isnt a sopa opera!"
i would say he acted like a 5 year old, but it's an insult to 5 year olds the world over!!!

Aside from not showing Maggie talking with Jilian's Mom, they didn't show Bernie with her either. My guess is they both talked to her, but since we already saw what Maggie would talk baout when she cried to Jillian they didn't show her. And I just don't think Bernie had an issue "good" enough for TV, or he decided he didn't need/want to talk to Jillian's mom.

I personally didn't think that Mark's comment to Ali was subtle at all. It was point blank and RUDE. I thought she handled it well though. I wouldn't have let it go that easily. And who was it, Kelly maybe, who said "Geez Mark!"? And everyone else looked at him like "What's your problem" and yes he did act like a child. He is my absolute least favorite.

Kimba, kelly thought she was going home because, the other three have such a tight bond she didn't think that they would vote for any of them. That left her and paul. Since Paul had lost the most weight he was immune, leaving her out in the dark and sent home.
As for not showing Maggie and Bernie. I have a feeling that the stories were too personal and they didn't want them to be shown. I could be wrong, but that was my take.
Was anyone else waiting for Dan to explode when Trent offered to go home? I mean you could see the anger in his eyes, like he was saying "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU DO THIS LAST WEEK WHEN YOU ALL SENT MY MOM HOME. That's what she was saying."

thanks amarty, i see now why kelly was so upset.
i totally agree about bernie and maggie. obviously maggie was dealing with a very difficult issue and didnt want to do it on TV. and probably bernie too.
i missed dan's face but i can imagine. he was fukimg last week when his mom left (not that i dont blame him, i'd be upset too. it's his MOM, and they seem close).
