Recap: Finale
I cannot explain how excited I was for tonight’s episode which surely did not disappoint. In the first 5 minutes we found out that Roger won America’s vote to be in the final 3 which left Mark to weigh-in with the at home contestants. While some appeared to have done better than others I’m not going to be negative since they’ve all undeniably accomplished a great deal. With that said, here are a few notes on the reveals. Amanda looked fabulous. Mallory and Curtis were one hot couple. Jackie and Dan continued their success at home because they looked great as well. Trent just makes me smile. Bernie was adorable as usual and Brittany was gorgeous. And Paul couldn’t make the finale because he was ill.
Ali immediately called Mark out on all his crying this season. He made a point to say that getting voted out and then having the chance to come back made him realize how great of an opportunity it was and that he wasn’t going to get wrapped up in game-play. Mark wanted to finally tackle the issues of why he was heavy. When Ali asked Bernie if it was about the money for him he said no. I agree, I don’t think anyone goes on this show for the money.
Then it was time to flashback and watch the remaining contestants go home. Ali was bursting with joy. Her mom was crying and said it was worth all the humiliation she had to go through, she meaning Bette-Sue. Gotta love her. Kelly goes home next and is beaming. Her mom was not prepared for this confident woman with a new lease on life. Roger returns to his wife, son and friends who are going to support him to the finish line.
Bob and Jillian came out on stage for the at-home contestant weigh-in. Here’s how everyone did (pounds lost then percentage loss). Jenni- 54 pounds, 20.22%. Lynn- 80, 19.56. Mallory- 65, 29.95. Curtis- 150, 39.37. And Curtis was able to qualify for health insurance! Amanda- 64, 31.37. Neil- 88, 27.76. Bette-Sue- 75, 28.74. Jen- 64, 25.20. Maggie- 70, 29.29. Jackie- 89, 36.18. Dan- 136, 43.87. Trent- 135, 30.96. Bernie- 130, 45.94. Brittany- 57, 25.79. Jay- 103, 35.15. Mark- 129, and then I couldn’t see his percentage with all the excitement over Bernie winning the $100,000 prize. Mark lost out by 1 pound! I sort of feel like after all he’s been through on campus that he deserved it but I’m so ecstatic for Bernie.
Back at home all three finalists are facing some troubles. Ali has been struggling and self-sabotaging because she’s scared. Kelly has a herniated disk and Roger has hit a plateau. But then they begin to progress. Roger is involved in a “healthy buddy” program that has him bringing the kids Subway. (More product placement). Ali is fighting for that first female Biggest Loser title and Kelly is back on her feet. Cut to the live finale. Though Kelly started as the heaviest female on campus, today she looks wonderful. She’s scared to weigh-in but knows she gave it her all. Ali is so tiny and toned it’s unreal. As Roger steps on the scale we take a look back at his journey. He started at 363 pounds and is now down to 199, losing 164 pounds and 45.18%. Kelly started on campus weighing 271 pounds and is now down to 162 for a loss of 109 total pounds, 40.22%. Though she didn’t win the prize she’s happy with her personal victory. Ali weighs in last. She started the show at 234 pounds and with a weight-loss of 112 pounds, she now weighs 122! With a percentage loss of 47.86 Ali has claimed the Biggest Loser title and has finally done it for the women!

I could not be more thrilled for Ali. She really earned that victory. By and large most of the former contestants looked great. How marvelous to see such successes! I was thrilled that Bernie won the $100K, too.
I could not have written a better finale episode!

I was beyond ecstatic that Bernie won the home prize! He was such a great, fair playing, compassionate contestant. I definitely didn't want Mark - his cockiness & crying got on my very last nerve this season.

So happy for Ali. Now that the contest is over I hope that her and Mark gain just a little bit so they are at a happy healthy and sustainable weight. If they are that thin on tv imagine what they look like in person.
I know people are down on Mark for his constant crying. But if he needs to cry instead of eating to deal with his emotions, I say bring on the Kleenex and Visine

Way to go Jillian!!! Remember when Bob hand picked his boy team and stacked the deck? I am so very happy for Bernie! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Everyone looked great and each and everyone of them should be proud of their accomplishments.
ALI - you rock!!

YEAH for Ali!! They all did such a great job and should be so proud of themselves.
My only complaint with the show last night was the ending. I wished they would have spared 5 minutes at the end so Alison could have talked with Ali about her win. It was like - Ali's weigh in, she won, confetti, end of show. I was watching with a friend and it took us a few seconds to realize Ali won because the confetti immediately started coming down and you couldn't see the totals with the percentage of weight loss. I would have liked to have seen more of Ali's reaction when she won and Jillian's comments about Ali winning. Other than that, great show this year!

Thanks for a great recap. I gave up on the last hour of this show a few weeks ago when Hell's Kitchen started and I had to be out last night anyway.
I am so happy that Bernie won the at home prize. He deserved it over Mark who was off the show for one episode. That hardly qualifies him as an at home contestant in my book.
I'm was a big fan of Ali when she and Bette-Sue were on but I didn't like her when she came back. I was hoping Kelly would win but I'm okay with Ali winning since it means a female win.

I thought Ali's body looked well toned but a little too skinny and her face looked off to me. When she was about 140-150 her face looked fantastic but last night, her face was sunken and very unattractive.

I am so happy Ali won. She truly deserved it. And Bernie winning the at home prize was great too.
I agree with Debaloo, why did they end it so fast. I had to wait two hours just to get "And Ali's the biggest loser. Goodnight" <click> WTF?!?
They all looked great but I think the person who had the biggest transformation was actually Kelly. She was stronger and much more confident than when she began the show.
What a great season.

I thought the show was great; I always tvo it so I can skip the commercials which are way too long. I was so happy that Bernie won over Mark who was so annoying this whole year. Its great because the guys were so cocky and a girl and a guy from the "girls" team won both prizes! Isn't there a second and third place prize also? I thought I remembered that from previous years. Less money, but something. The end was rushed and it was hard to see the percentages several times. I thought Kelly did much better on the show after Paul left. Paul seemed nice, but too much emotional baggage and it was weighing Kelly down (pun intended)! (my husband said Kelly really lost the most because she lost Paul's weight too!) Anyway, so great that a woman won! Go Ali. Also liked Alison the host much better than Caroline who was so robotic.

This show is very inspirational and also, ironically, very grounding. It's wonderful to see how the contestants lose their weight, but we also see that 1)not everyone loses drastically and that's it hard work all along; 2) that you can lose too much weight (Ali, eat a sandwich girl!); and 3) maintenance can be tough -- I don't think we saw one past season winner/contestant last night--are they gaining the weight back? But still, when you see people who are morbidly obese and can barely walk a few yards transform into mini-triathaloners it makes it harder to complain about doing 30 minutes on the elliptical once a day. Can't wait for next season!

I loved that Bernie won. He definitely deserved it. I was very proud of Ally as well. My only comment, and I know I'm going to sound very critical, but how were her arms so toned? Everyone else has sagging skin after all the weight loss but her arms didn't even have a faint jiggle. It was especially noticeable after Kelly waved her arms. I'd just like to know what she did differently from everyone else. Maybe it's because she was younger and her skin is more elastic?

The differences in saggy skin between Ali and Kelly is definitely due to Ali being younger. Her skin is more elastic and also the length of time you've been overweight is a big factor.

I was super excited that Ali won last night she worked so hard. She had never been below the yellow line at any weigh in and was only voted off because of gameplay the week yellow got to cast a vote.
Bernie was always one of my favorites and I thought it was awesome that he won the at home prize and how fitting that it was just a pound that got him the win when it was a pound that send him home and a pound that kept him from coming back into the game instead of Mark. I grew to like Mark but his crying did get to be too much toward the end.
I have a theory on how Ali looks more toned than Kelly. We have to remember in the beginning Kelly said she was always overweight so she was never fit or toned in her life so her skin will be a lot more saggy and loose. Ali used to be super fit and was a competitive synchronized swimmer so she had muscle tone and fit arms at one point in her life but then gained a lot of weight. Her skin wasn't stretched out as much as Kellys probably because she wasn't heavy as long as Kelly was. If you go to NBCs website and look at their videos from the beginning or some of the first workouts you can even see then that Alis arms weren't quite as big as some of the other women. So when she lost weight and worked hard at building muscle she was more getting back what she once had instead of trying to create something that was never there. Anyway it's just a theory.
