« The Biggest Loser: Couples

Recap: Episode 13

Let’s hear it for the girls! Finally we had a week where the boys’ alliance would be broken up. Coming off of Brittany’s elimination, Allie and Kelly had to pull together. Jillian was distraught over losing her trainee and friend and was ready to get the girls in gear. On the Blue team side, Bob was not happy that Jay only lost 3 pounds and tried to drill it in their heads how important eating enough carbs were.

Unexpectedly, Ali called the players to the elimination room to inform them that losing weight wasn’t just about diet and exercise, but about knowledge as well. She donned her glasses and explained that she would be giving everyone a pop quiz. No-one bats an eye-lash at the first question but the second one trips up Mark, Ali and Kelly. The third and final question leaves Dan a winner. His prize? A ginormous piece of chocolate cake. With this came the first twist of the night. He had to keep his cake intact and bring it to the challenge in order to gain an advantage.

This week’s challenge continued along the “knowledge” theme. The players had to load up the others’ tables with food, guessing which had the most calories. In the end, whoever’s table had the least amount of calories, would win $10,000. Not a shocker, the boys ganged up on the girls and loaded their tables with food. And Dan’s advantage for still having the cake with him? He got to put it on anyone’s table. In the end, Jay wins the money as he has the least amount of caloric content on his table. Twist #2 suddenly presents itself and he’s given the option of using the money to buy a 1 pound pass.

At the weigh-in, we learn that Jay has decided to opt for the 1 pound. He loses 5, which makes his total 6. Roger also loses 6. Dan, who admits he sort of slacked off at the challenge this week, only loses 1. Mark loses 4 and Ali loses 6. She also breaks a record for being the woman to lose the most weight on campus in history. Kelly then loses 7 putting her and Ali in the 1 and 2 spot. Dan and Mark fall below the yellow line and finally the boys must turn against each other to vote one of their own out. With Jay clearly voting to keep Mark, Roger, Ali and Kelly decide Dan is the bigger threat and must go home.

With only 5 people left, who do you think the final 4 will be? Would you have picked the money or the pass? And did anyone else wanna gag at how obvious the product placement was this week?

I think I would have wanted to vote out Mark. HE and his brother will always have an alliance together and if it got down to the final 3 and it was the brothers and me, I would know I was going home. Of course this is my first time watching the biggest loser so I may not know how the game works at the end. How do they usually decide a winner?

I believe the end is happening like this:

We get to the final four. Two of these land in the bottom two and America votes which of them gets to go to the final live weigh in to compete for the $250,000. That leaves us with 3 in the final weigh-in.

Which means they need to make it one more week. By which I mean Kelly has to make it one more week. Because Kelly needs to win. :)

I enjoyed the hunt for the cake! And I'm very glad the boys were in the bottom 2. Getting rid of Dan was a no-brainer -- Mark doesn't have much weight left to lose, so he's not a threat. Unless the man is going to turn flat-out anorexic, he just doesn't have the fat left to win this.

Hallelujah, the ego-brat Dan is finally gone! I'm sorry but that kid got on my last nerve! I think the comment last night about how he's the smartest person in the bunch was really the icing on the cake for me (ha, no pun intended) :-p

I know others have said that he's just getting cocky because he's lost all this weight and has never had the chance to be in the "cool" crowd and now he's just living his dream. Well, I say that is no excuse. My mother was 300+ pounds her whole life and when she recently dropped to 150 she stayed just as modest and humble as she'd always been. Most overweight people still think of themselves as overweight, even after they've lost it all. They are sympathetic to others that haven't been able to succeed in the fight and although they may be proud of themselves, they don't have a tendency to get big heads about it.

I was actually happy to see Dan get brought down a few notches by being below the line. See Dan, you're not invincible after all so quit acting like it. He did an amazing job on the show and I really hope that he looks back on the experience and goes forward in his life with a sense of self-confidence, not self-importance.

So glad to see the Blue team split up. The way they ganged up on the girls at the challenge was just so "high school" it made my skin crawl. Makes me ashamed to be the same gender as these jerks.

I for one am fairly pleased to see Dan go. From a game standpoint, his 1 lb. loss only made him a bigger threat at the next weigh-in. And as a previous poster noted, Mark has pretty much reached his goal weight, so it's going to be hard for him to be losing good percentages as he will be adding more muscle rather than losing substantial amounts of fat. Great for him, not so much for the game.

So Dan, I'll cut you some slack for all the comments like how the Black team just couldn't cut it (ego much?) and chalk it up to youth, and just say congrats on the new you. However, I think you flew in the wrong direction in pursuit of your musical career. After hearing your little ditty on the Vegas road trip I think your only option for cashing in on your singing career would be with a hat in your guitar case down in the NY subway system. Not to quash your dreams, bud, but I just don't see a record deal in your future.

Robyn, your so right on about the product placement. I knew as soon as I saw the basket/gift/shameless merchandise plug sitting on the table and the fake, rehearsed excitement from Kelly and Ali, I would be reaching for the FF button. BL certainly wins "The Most Obvious Commercial-Disguised-as-Content" award.

I don't remember America ever having a say in who goes to the finals. It's all about the weight they lose, the yellow line, and the votes they cast.

Not at all sorry to see Dan go. The confidence of youth is one thing, but he's got enough ego for three people. I almost choked on his comment at the end about how he didn't just want to be the fat guy with the great voice. Whaaaa???!!! Dan, take a shot at your dream if for no other reason to get it out of your system.

On another topic, is Kelly the dark horse in all of this? She still has quite a bit of weight to lose and the only other member training with Jillian is just about at her goal weight. So, Kelly essentially has a private trainer for the next couple of weeks. Plus, I think she's a nurse so she must have a little bit better knowledge than the others about metabolism and weight loss. Has she been holding out on us? Are we going to see a revved up Kelly in the next couple of episodes? Wouldn't it be a hoot to see her come from behind and beat the boys?

Poor Dan. He's been listening to his mother his whole life. SHE thinks he is perfect, brilliant, has a great voice and probably walks on water. I'm glad he is thinner and healthy now, but life still has a few lessons in store for Mamma's-Boy.

Also ... I read somewhere that this year as a twist, when they get to the final four, the two biggest losers automatically go to the finals but places 3 and 4 get voted on by viewers. Anyone else remember that?

First of all, I think you're all being a little hard on Dan. He is a 21 year old kid who was hamming it up for the cameras. I doubt he is as cocky in real life as we saw on the show. I liked him and wanted him to make it to the end.

And the product placement is blatantly obvious EVERY week.

I was glad to see the blue team broken up too. I can't stand any of those guys. What jerks they were last night, not to mention a bunch of cry babies. Ali looks great, and I'm rooting for Kelly to take it all home!

I must say that my biggest problem is with the producers at this point. They are manuevering the game to create the devisive tension between teams. Why have a challenge of loading up others players tables except to create badwill? There are other ways to test knowledge of calories - but I was disgusted with the guys for essentially picking on the girls. I just don't enjoy the game play. It's hard enough to lose weight, and I'd rather hear more about what they are doing to lose weight - cooking and workout tips - than game play. In fact, why did they have a couples season, just to split up the couples?!

I was very happy to see Ali and Kelly come in #1 & #2, 'cuz those boys are really cocky. I hope that Jillian continues to get big numbers out of them.

My favorite moment - hiding of the cake. Too funny.

The guys weren't ganging up on the girls out of game play, they didn't want to put food on each others table because of their bond. They wanted the girls to decide who got the money and they did by putting less food on Jay's table.

Dan was really getting on my nerves the last couple of weeks but it was still hard to watch him get voted out - he was so sad. Hopefully he will keep the weight off and have a long and healthy life.

I hope Kelly goes next week - she probably will since history shows she can't seem to pull good numbers two weeks in a row. She doesn't have the drive or the positive attitude to be the winner and her whining is getting to me.

I always liked Dan, his comments amused me. However, once his mother got eliminated & the male bonding began, he went over the top with his cockiness. I did not like the way he was always putting down the other team. Let's be honest, Dan, you're so young that you should be the biggest loser every single week and yet you weren't.

I like that America gets to vote when it gets down to the Final 4.

hgmsnoopy, I completey agree on the producers. I'm a recent BL watcher, started last season, so I don't know if the "game" part of it has always been so big. I was excited to watch the show to see their lives transformed, not to see the fangs come out!

I wonder if the producers had these games all mapped out prior to the season, or if they intentionally do not want the girls to have any chance at the $10,000, and came up with this game?
