Episode Recap: March 19, 2008 (Eviction 6)

Well, Matt’s been saying since the beginning of the season that you “cant trust the kid with the pink hair,” and last night proved without a doubt that those words were true. After this season’s first tied vote, the fate of nominees Ryan and Matt came down to Head of Household James’ tie-breaking decision. I guess that’s fitting since James has made pretty much all the decisions in the house this week. So, for his final act as HOH, James evicted Matt, sending him right out the same back door that James walked through one week ago.

I have to give Matt some credit for turning what could have been a 5-1 vote into a tie. Again using his ability to work everyone (well Sheila, at least) he made a convincing argument that he was less threatening than his “boy” Ryan. While what Matt said was mostly true, Ryan has played a more straight-up game. He may have crossed more people, but he hasn’t lied nearly as much as Matt. Even though Sharon wasn’t buying his “crap” and Chelsia continued being a mouthpiece for James, Sheila did buy into his sob story, and, after Adam committed to Matt, made up the crucial tying vote. Matt had to know that a tie wasn’t good enough for him, and he told Julie that tried to cut a deal with James, to no avail. So after his intense campaign, he still finds himself in the jury house, pretty much like we all expected.

I found it very interesting how badly Sheila insisted that it should be James who makes the final choice. Of course, that helps eliminate blame from the houseguests in some way, but at some point you have to stand by your vote. It was also very interesting how she tried to play James, reminding him that Ryan (not Matt) was the one who back-doored him. That statement isn't untrue, but Sheila was the one who convinced Ryan to flip the game and not back-door Matt. Aside from her whining and crying, Sheila is playing a pretty good mental game. But she better start winning some competitions if she wants to make it to the end.

In a duel-style HOH competition, the houseguests faced off one-on-one to answer questions about things previously evicted houseguests had said in the diary room. Both Chelsia and Natalie showed some smarts, pitting aligned members against each other in the duel, but it ultimately came down to Chelsia (no surprise) and Adam (Adam?!?). I personally think Adam’s been playing dumb (time will only tell to what degree) most of the season, but there he was in the final round. Again proving (or disproving) that he has some brains) he simply guessed on the final answer based on the process of elimination. Either way, he is the new HOH! I’m not sure how I feel about this yet, but I am definitely glad Chelsia did not win it.

Adam’s win should force him to now play the game, and perhaps finally pick a side. I could see him trying to re-organize a guys vs. girls alliance, but it’s doubtful. The smartest move would be to get rid of James or Chelsia, because they are playing as a pair, and to a similar degree, so are Joshuah and Sharon. That alliance will continue to be a force, especially if Adam doesn’t make a move to eliminate someone from their team.

I’m again proud of Julie for asking some tough questions. She laid into James hypocrisy, which I enjoyed. It was also funny to see that she revealed to Adam, Ryan and Matt that they are known as “Bible Buddies” I’m looking forward to what happens this week with Adam in power. I hope Ryan can lay low, and eventually be given a chance to play the game without BB interfering. It will also be interesting to see what sort of hijinks Evel Dick brings to the house in his return visit.

So what do you think? Are you amazed that Adam is HOH? Who would you like to see him nominate? What do you think will happen to Natalie now that Matt is gone? Share your thoughts and check back after nominations Sunday! — Adam

See ya Matt!! God I am SO glad he is gone. I loved that James looked him in the eye and sent his butt packing! I'll admit, he made a good argument to stay in the house, but his smarmy ways caught up with him. Even in the end he couldn't give Natalie the time of day. I hope she never speaks to him again...though obviously that won't happen.

Who the hell is Adam gonna nominate??? This is the question of the day!

You can't blame the hamsters for not wanting to stand by their vote with the way BB has taken away strategy this year. Why stand by your vote when BB will just nullify it and send the person you JUST VOTED OUT back.

Why do I think that Adam will try to nominate people in order to not make people mad at him (like I seem him nominating Nat and Josh because they are the only ones besides him not to be on the block solo) and that being the best backfire on a HOH in a long time? Like he doesn't realize that by crossing Josh, he kind of is crossing Ryan (the more honorable to keep the secret alliance) and by putting up Nat he is crossing Sheila.

How funny would it be if Natalie gets voted out next and gets Matt all to herself in the sequester house!

My guess is that Adam will put up Sharon and Chelsia.

It's kind of funny that a lot of people did not want Chelsia to win HOH. I was glad she didn't get it.

I would have prefered Matt to stay over Ryan even thought I like both of them.
Ryan is boring. I mentioned it before to watch for Adam. He isnt as dumb as he looks. I am glad he won and I love the fact that he is watching for Nat/Sheila. Josh made a big deal about going off on Sheila during the live show but he must of done it off air.
Nat mentioned it on BBAD, that his mouth had been quiet since he lost HOH.
I thought HOH contest was great and everyone used their head.
If I had to pick, I would love to see Adam win with Nat in the runner up seat.
I detest every inch of Chelsia, I cant even stand to look at her, I hate Sharon with her high pitch laugh and James, well, what can you say about a hypocrite, btw, I thought it was cool they bought Adam a bible.
see ya

matt's playing both sides finally caught up to him. We don't get to see everything, but I find it hard to believe that Ryan & Matt had equal representation.

in any case- looking forward to E.D. appearing next week, maybe he can give Joshuah some lessons on how to REALLY yell at someone.

I guess I was right about James having the numbers, his own. Matt is out and I really don't mind. His arguement had merit, just not enough. His crying showed me that this kid may never have lost at anything before and never learned how to handle it like a man. Cry in front of your best girl or momma, not on national tv, and over a game. I think Ryan stayed because he didn't lie to James about the vote for him to not return. They are all snakes, as the game requires, and owning up to your choices is what can save you.

Adam finally is doing something by winning HOH. He did get some advantage from not be asked as many questions. At least he was smart enough to pick up on the clue that Julie Chen stressed. I have to wonder why Julie only mentioned, and stressed, the gender on this lone question. Adam has a chance to make a big alliance busting move this week. He should nominate James and Chelsia. Then if someone comes off the block he should put Joshuah up in their place. He can change the names around but he has a real shot at the trio if he is smart. I think he will do just that.

I wonder what part Dick will play in the game next week. Probably just host the veto competition but we never really know what Big Brother will pull. It was nice to see the segment on him and Danielle. She looks like she has enjoyed a good cheese burger or two in six months. I guess he is also much happier now that he is 'like a rock star' instead of just a groupie.

Power Rankings:
1. Sharon - Stays in first place because she is still a major player but continues to hide in the background. She will have to come out of hiding soon when she wins HOH, maybe even next week. This is still a good time in the game to win HOH and avoid hurting her game.
2. Adam - HOH win is a big plus in that he can do some damage to an alliance. The downside for him is he will be the target next week no matter what he does. If he makes the right moves his numbers will negate that target.
3. Sheila - She faded into the background a bit this week and Adam's picks should keep her out of the line of fire for a few more weeks. She is still a team with Adam, and perhaps the strongest team at this point.
4. Ryan - He is smart enough to know that he dodged a bullet and needs to get off the fence now. He needs to follow Adam's lead and kill his alliance with Joshuah before it comes back to bite him.
5. Natalie - The girl may be a mess this coming week but her desire to go after James for booting Matt may get her to think for herself once. She is definatel going to be on Adam's side if he goes after James or anyone in James' alliance.
6. Chelsia - She is alone in her own alliance really. She may be the pawn this next week. She will be left standing out in the cold alone in a matter of weeks.
7. James - It was a good and bad move to get rid of Matt how he did. He will take the blame for single-handidly booting Matt, based on the votes. Tie-breakers are big trouble for HOHs. His dominance and arrogance in the earlier two challenges highlighted his capabilities and alsoexposed his dangerousness in the game.
8. Joshuah - His mouth will get him in trouble this week, based on the nominations. I look for him to be back-doored this week because the timing is right. He will seal his own fate if he loses it this week.

WOW joe-cool,

You sure have alot of time on your hands to write a LONG post like that.

P.S. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a cheeseburger or two.

Well I liked your post joe-cool (I usually do anyway). And I would love it if JoshuaH (I really hate that H at the end of his name) got backdoored. I really don't like him and he really needs to be nominated already! But backdooring him after a false sense of security would be even better.

I just think it's amazing the small amount of comments this season compared to last season. You can say what you want about Dick but he has been the most interesting and comment provoking house guest they have ever had.

ED will be banging on pots and pans to "wake up" the HGs as Julie alluded to.
I hope he starts with Josh.
He had better bring in some, uh, protection. I think Sheila will POUNCE on him.
Matt got what he deserved and now he'll be celebrating his birthday alone. Waah. Waah. Waah.
James was the "most powerful" HOH in BB history. He won the trifecta or hat trick of power by winning HOH, POV and having to be the tie breaking vote to remove Matt. Nobody had even done that before.
Adam is a lot smarter and nicer than he's shown. Yes, he's odd looking and has weird facial ticks. I read that he had been in a car accident and has tiny glass shards in his facial muscles and they cause the weird ticks. I don't know if it's true or not. Other than his "retard" comment, he seems like a pretty nice guy. He's just goofy and quirky.
I think Adam will nominate Chelsia and either Josh or Sharon. I don't think he'll put up James as James hasn't done anything to him, although he is a threat. Sheila and Ryan will work him, but hopefully he'll make his own decision, as opposed to Ryan who seemed to do whatever the last person who talked to him told him to do.

An HOH who doesn't have an axe to grind - no enemies. Could be interesting, could be boring.

I have also wondered why Julie stressed the gender of the houseguest during the last question. That was fishy.

I would love to see ED yell at Joshuah like J has done to the women. Be great fun to see the little psycho coward melt into a puddle of pee.

I have also wondered why Julie stressed the gender of the houseguest during the last question

My guess is that it may have been a comment said by both a male or female so Julie had to specify gender to prevent their being 2 possible answers. Since we never heard the entire question, we'll never know for sure.

I think ED will go around the house and wake everbody up with the clanging of pans like he did last year. I also wonder if there is not going to be a rock concert in the back yard with Evil Dick performing. It is going to be interesting, I sure hope that James and Chelsie get put on the block. After what James did to Natalie he needs to be put on the block, I think she could have held on sick or not, James looked the weakest of the two. Since I am new to this - how do you leave a spoiler alert?
