Episode Recap: April 1, 2008 (Veto Competition/Ceremony 7)
Today may have been April Fool's Day, but there were very few laughs in tonight's episode. In fact, I don't think I've seen that many tears in the Big Brother house since Whamber was evicted last season. But before James, Joshuah, Sharon and Sheila opened up the floodgates, the show did get off to a pretty explosive start.
After Sheila gave James an inspirational pep talk (which made no sense to me at all), she then doubled back and gave Joshuah a very similar speech while also trashing James. Although I have floated back and in my opinion of James, I wasn't really sucked in by his "poor, pitiful me-against-the-world" attitude. Yes, the whole house is against him, but he created that scenario by double-crossing the person in power and continually winning important competitions.(Come on James, just deal with the fact that smart players want the threatening player out of the running.) I did, however, respect his continuing desire to call people on their two-faced play. And unlike some other attacks this season (I'm looking at you Joshuah), James war of words with Sheila had some substance. (Maybe not a lot, but some.) Then again, as he said himself, "there's no nice way to play Big Brother." If nothing else, James' meltdown proved once again that being in the house does get to you over time, but by episode's end, he seemed to back to his usual self. I guess winning the Veto helps in that area.
That's right, for the third week in a row, James won the Power of Veto and removed himself from the block. The houseguests played a glorified guessing game in which they had to identify the amount of objects in a given container based on a separate, smaller sample. After each houseguest revealed their guess, the players could fold their guess and eliminate the risk of elimination (but sacrifice points) or stay in the game in hopes of earning points, provided their guess was closest to the actual number. (Confused? I have to say that this season's competitions have had some of the most convoluted rules ever). But as James said, this game was somewhat of a "bluffing" game, which he executed well. He folded in the early rounds, letting his opponents pick themselves off. Then he made a few risky moves to stay in the game, but benefited from Ryan and Sheila's lack of confidence in their answers, earning points when they both folded. In the end, it came down to Ryan and James in a head-to-head battle, with James' guess coming closer and securing his safety for another week.
Although James resilience has earned back the respect I formerly had for him, I've got to say Ryan (who I've been pulling for ever since the couples split) disappointed me tonight. He twice had the chance to end James' game and carry out the house's plan to evict James. Don't put my vote of confidence to shame, Ryan! One other note on the POV competition: Does anybody else crack up by how excited Adam gets as the host of the competitions? Maybe he can find a new job at the Game Show Network.
With James off the block, the sob-fest began with Joshuah and Sharon lamenting the fact that she was now on the block beside her former partner, most likely sealing his fate. But it wasn't long before Joshuah's tears stopped clouding his brain, and he made a desperation deal with Natalie, which, provided he gets two votes to stay, will have her breaking the tie in his favor. Kudos for the BB producers for perfectly editing the two-faced aspect of Joshuah's game here as while he schemes in the HOH bedroom, his partner Sharon sobs with Sheila in the bathroom because she doesn't want to see him go. Although Joshuah was and is a snake, you have to give him credit for making a strong move. His alliance with Ryan could pay off after all. (Plus, Ryan now has brought Natalie into that alliance, which makes the possible revelation of Ryan's dealing with Joshuah over the past few weeks far less damaging than it would have been just a couple weeks ago.) The question remains, will Natalie honor her deal and vote Sharon out if James does come through with Joshuah's second vote?
What do you think of Joshuah's power move? Do you think Natalie will actually put out Sharon if Joshuah delivers the votes? Who should be evicted and who do you want to win HOH? Most importantly, will James ever learn to put on pants? Check back tomorrow and find out! —Adam

Well it looks like both James and Joshuah could survive being on the block this week. Sharon may be one week too late in trying to team up with Natalie, so far. I can imagine word getting out and Joshuah being booted out and Ryan outed for his alliance wih Joshuah. The crack in any secret alliances or deals invoving Natalie is Natalie. I hope to see her blow the deal once again and exposing what is going on. She could have made the deal with Joshuah on purpose to expose hidden secrets.
If either Natalie doesn't see that she is ending her chances at winning the game with Joshuah's deal and stopping it, or Sharon doesn't wise up to Joshuah's ways and fights back I will regret ranking those two that high. Someone needs to remind Sharon what happens to the most confident pawns in Big Brother history. They leave.
I liked the POV speech. James was right about the players having to actually play the game and win something. If I ever play Ryan at poker he may as well hand me his money and skip the game. Natalie should have remember and stuck with the 8 theory. Multiply everything by 8 and you would have won all but the first game. Natalie might have tried it, since two others did, and lucky messed up on her multiplication.
"Boo Hoo! Boo Hoo! Whoa is me! Nobody likes me! I'm going home!" Okay, not an exact quote but come on BB guys, man up. Anyway, I think Joshuah made a bad move in showing his hand. I don't expect Natalie to honor the deal to vote out Sharon. I expect James to win HOH. I want Sharon to win it though.

Once James showed his "fold" strategy in that POV game, Sheila and Ryan cold have easily worked together to pick him off. It's this simple: James folds, Sheila folds, point Ryan. Do that twice and James has to take a bigger risk.

I already saw the clips of James yelling at Sheila and he looked like a total moron. But the part that got me was when he was saying that "he doesn't have anyone to play with". If he wanted to play with someone so bad then he should of kept his playmate Chelsia in the game. And the part when he says he was losing his voice...give me a break. It didn't sound like he was losing his voice. I so want him and his no pants wearing self out so freaking bad. Hopefully it will come in a few weeks.
Was I the only one cracked up when Josh started to cry about going home? Please tell me I wasnt the only one? Man I hope this plan of Josh's doesn't work. I really want him to go home.
What was going on with Ryan and the POV? He should of trusted his instints. So disappointed in him. If Josh stays in the house, I have a feeling that his alliance with Josh will come out and the rest of the house will be gunning for the both of them.
I agree about Adam, he could be a good host on a game show. And if he washed his hands more, didn't pick his butt in front of others(but don't most men do that anyway?), I could get pass all of his faults...well some of them.

I'm glad they showed James go off on Sheila as some people have been complaining that he's been getting a good edit. I read that every season about someone. BB isn't going to ruin someone's life out of the house because they know that being inside the BB house can cause people to say and do things that they otherwise wouldn't do. If there's no point in showing something, they won't.
James going off on Sheila and showing it in context was very important to the game. I don't think I've even seen anyone go off like that on tv. That was pretty wild! I saw it live and the part where he was losing his voice was real. he was talking and suddenly he started squeaking. He really blew it out when he yelled at Sheila.
Sheila is the player that really needs to go as she has caused a lot of trouble for others.
I wonder if they'll show they goings on that happened this week that involved April Fool's as a LOT of it fell on Sheila. Most of it was pretty funny. I'm betting it will be a "before and after" HOH quiz and they'll ask if something happened before or after something else with the questions revolving around this past week.
I'm not sure who is going at this point, but they would be smart to eliminate Sharon first as she's a bigger threat to win competitions, and she could beat people in the Final 2.

Since my Tivo cut out big chunks of the show, I'm not sure if they showed the entire James psycho rant on Sheila, but from what I saw, they did seem to show most, if not all of it.
The last thing I wanted was for James to win the POV and had the rest of them used a team strategy it could have turned out differently. Ryan taking Natalie out was just plain stupid. Speaking of Ryan, he really should have won that POV but lack of confidence cost him. James seemed to be the only person using his brains so I'll give him credit for that.
If we had a drinking game and had to drink for every time James said "The entire house wants me out" I would be passed out and to the curb right now. We get it James, pooooor you .... all alone on your island. I do think that BB really loves that guy. Yes, they showed him going bananas, but softened him up again with all of the sobbing DR sessions. Sorry, didn't work with me... all I have to say is MAN UP you hypocrite! And no Lizzybelle, you're not the only one not feeling bad for Joshuah and his tears.
HOH: I'd love to see anyone but James win (preferably Ryan, Adam or Sheila).
Lastly, since it's April fools day, I'm suprised BB didn't show any of the pranks over the past few days. They started early so I figured they needed time to edit it into tonight's show, so in the spirit of April fools, enjoy the clips below. (Poor Sheila is on the receiving end of most of the jokes).

What was up with all the crying? I was starting to annoy me. I understand it is hard to be that house but these people should expect it. I mean it isn't the first edition of Big Brother so they should have watched seasons past and know what comes with being in the house.
Am I the only one disturbed by the fact that there is a camera in the toilet area? I find that pretty creepy. Or was that just there for the Sharon/Sheila conference?
Why do these people still trust James? He has proven that he will lie and double cross people.

"you reap what you sow" "you get as good as you give" "karma bites you in the butt"
James and Josh have the biggest delusional self-images I have ever seen. I really hope they don't know what their actions looked like on tv and when they see them, they will realize they are two-faced, vicious jerks!

I guess I'm the only one who was excited by the prospect of Nat & Ryan teaming up with Josh & James. In a way, I think it would be a smart move for them both. Sharon is too much of a threat to keep in the house (she's played well and is well liked - hard to compete with) and Sheila is so two-faced and manipulative that she will end up manipulating both Nat and Ryan out of the house the first chance she gets. After tonight, the only "couple" remaining will be Adam and Sheila, and provided either Josh, James or Ryan win, they should put them up and get rid of the last couple. It's time they start playing to win - for themselves, and not play for "their side of the house". If not, Sheila and Adam might just win (groan).
Adam, I had never thought of Adam as a game show host, but my goodness he would make a great one. So he's a little weird, but don't you need to be slightly odd to be a good host?

JAMES makes me throw up just looking at him. Visually the most unappealing guy I've ever seen. Having said that, he plays a good, strong game. I don't mind listening him talk, but can he do it with a paperbag over his head?
JOSHUAH is smart. An arrogant, distasteful bottom-feeder who reminds me of my three-year-old nephew. The big difference between the two is that one is actually acting his age.
SHARON needs to get her head out of her ass. This isn't Oprah's Big Give, dammit!

K4 ~ You are awesome! Thanks ~ very funny. I can't believe Sheila took all that crap so well! Okay you have inspired me to try to post a link of something I saw yesterday which they showed a lot of last night but they cut stuff out. I have no idea if it will work ~ But if you have time to watch it ~ Please do.
This clip has made me officially want Adam to win this! Maybe it was just me at the time but this is the most entertaining thing I have ever seen from BB. The clip is 8:37 long and parts were on the show last night. The part that had me ROTFL starts at about 6:36 ~ When Adam comes in and starts going off. He goes in screaming a bunch of phrases and "you know what I am saying"s that don't really make too much sense and then by the time he leaves the room he's smiling and laughing. After you watch it ~ you have to rewind slow with the red button and it sticks on the funniest poses of Adam!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD2Dw--vVRo
Oh crap ~ I can tell by looking at this it is not going to work. Please go to youtube and search for ~ BB9 James goes off on Sheila + Adam goes off on James.
We watched it about five times last night and I was laughing so hard every time. I hope I haven't overhyped it to the point that it is not as funny as I made it sound. I hate it when that happens.
And James would look better with a bag over his head! He looked so ridiculous when he was so mad! Sorry but it is very hard to take someone seriously when they have a pink mohawk and are in their underwear!

The only thing that appears hopeful for Sharon right now, is if Natalie goes for Sharon and Sheila's idea, that after Josh is gone, the house will be female/male equal and if they don't team up, aren't they really the more likely targets. Like, Natalie might be safe for two weeks, but Ryan, Adam and James might just team up (as they seem to respect each other) and knock off Sharon then Sheila then Natalie. Whereas, if they team up, Natalie might have a fighting chance at the final two.

When I copied it into my comment it didn't turn red so I didn't think it was going to work but when I posted it ~ it did.
Did you think it was funny? Or not so much?
I just loved the DeNiro impression ~ "You're gunning for me bro ~ You're gunning for ME?"

Nat should send Josh out, he's weak and also can't be trusted. Sharon is his opposite.
For his survival, I hope James gets HoH.
