« America's Next Top Model
Episode Recap: Top Model Takes It to the Streets
Oh boy...after last week's meat photo shoot I couldn't wait to see what Tyra had up her sleeve for this week's Top Model. Even outside of this blog the bizarre decision to shoot the girls with meat draped over them seemed to get a lot of attention. Especially from our friends over at PETA. Now, I'm always up for a delicious steak dinner but at the same time I do find something wrong with having these poor girls running around with dead cow as underwear. As this week's episode kicked off and I caught a glimpse of the previously on Top Model clips, I couldn't help but scoff at Mr. Jay's line about how one of the girls was not "coming off pretty." Umm, Mr. Jay, you try sporting meat panties and see how attractive you look! Anyhow, I digress. This week's episode marked the return of my least favorite Tyra pal, Benny Ninja and yet another model friend to parade in front of the remaining girls.
As things got underway, Fatima was upset about being in the bottom two last week (boo hoo!) and Dominique began spouting off about how this is her competition to win which pretty much meant there was a good chance she'd be going home by the end of the hour. This show is becoming as formulaic as a horror movie. It's just like when someone says "I'll be right back!" and you know they're about to die. Whitney bitched to the camera about how Dominique doesn't stop running her mouth which just makes me love her even more. I truly hope she can break the curse of the plus-sized girls this cycle. I loved how Stacy-Ann was the first one to call Whitney fat when, if Whitney leaves at some point, Stacy-Ann becomes the biggest gal in the house.
It wasn't long before the girls had to hop into the fab cab and head over to a lesson with Benny Ninja and (international supermodel) Vendela. Once again, Benny Ninja was sporting quite the outfit. The dude may have invented voguing but a tiny bald man should not parade around in a plaid skirt (I don't care how comfortable he is with himself.) He taught the girls how to pose for catalog, commercial, and couture. As the girls showed off what they could do, Benny told Whitney she looks like Anna Nicole which is completely untrue.
When the girls got back to the house, it was time for some drama over phone time. Really? Doesn't this happen every cycle? Dominique was annoyed that Whitney's phone list wasn't totally clear and that her condescending looks piss everyone off. Then, out of nowhere, Dominique accused Whitney of being a racist. Yeah...it didn't make much sense to me either. Whitney didn't take it lightly and used some harsh (censored) words to defend herself. What good timing for a Tyra-mail. Since I could barely understand what the girls say when they yell in unison like 5 year-olds its always a surprise what Tyra has in store for them.
The ladies made their way to the 5 Pointz in Brooklyn where they participated in a pose-off challenge. Did it make anyone else think of Zoolander? First up, Dominique faced off against Claire and they tied. Lauren went up against Marvita and whooped her butt. Anya was against Stacy-Ann and Stacy-Ann took it. Whitney was pitted against Fatima (who tried to cheat) but Whitney won. Aimee went against Kat and Kat won the challenge for her team. In the end, Claire was awarded the extra gift (a trip to Bora Bora) while the rest of her team got to hit up a swag tent.
Back at the loft, the girls goofed off a bit while Fatima practiced her posing and complained (yet again) that nobody else takes the competition as seriously as she does. The next morning it was time to put all that practice to good use when the models woke up for their photo shoot. This week the idea was a bit more tame than the meat shoot. The girls were taking close-up shots with paint splattered all over their faces. While the other girls got their make-up done, Marvita got all down on herself and doubted her modeling abilities. Overall, Lauren, Stacy-Ann, and Claire rocked it while Whitney, Fatima, and Marvita struggled. Though my earlier prediction was that Dominique might be packing her bags, after the photo shoot it seemed Marvita would actually be the one not making it to the next elimination.
At the judging panel, Vendela questioned how serious Whitney is about the competition and Marvita was questioned about her recent depression. The rest of the girls seemed to take some good photos. When it came time to send someone home it was between Whitney and Marvita (I guess my whole horror movie analogy didn't really apply.) The judges sent Marvita home and gave Whitney the benefit of the doubt. Phew, I was convinced the plus-sized curse was rearing its ugly head again.
So there it is...another elimination. I was actually a little sad to see Marvita go home. She rubbed me the wrong way at first but they definitely did a great job in showing her friendlier side this week. Fatima, on the other hand, needs to go. It's great that she takes the competition seriously but nobody likes a teacher's pet. Plus, her beauty doesn't outshine her nasty attitude. But as we all know, the villain can't go home just yet. And although I haven't made reference to this in previous blogs, I noticed that Claire once again won Cover Girl of the week (for the 4th week in a row!) Good for her! She's done a great job modeling and has managed to stay out of all the drama. The only thing working against her is that none of us can really get past her breast milk comment from the auditions. I guess its a good thing we don't get to crown the winner. Finally, I'd like to bring up something I recently read about this show Did anyone else hear that Saleisha (last cycles winner) only got a 1 year contract instead of the usual 3 year sign-on with her agency? I found that incredibly funny since we've spent a lot of time bad mouthing her on this blog. Other than that, does anyone really think Dominique was right in calling Whitney a racist? Were the judges right in sending Marvita home? Does Anya ever say anything at all in the house or in the confessional? Ok...so I guess you can't really answer that last one but let us know what you think!
And...if you want to relive last week's meat photo shoot or perhaps check out something you missed in this week's show...you can find it in our online video guide.
Later gators!

What about the un-groomed pits???? DISGUSTING! I would have sent her home just for that!! BLECH!! How long has she been in this country??I am SO over Fatima!! SO glad Whitney is still there!! I wasn't ready for Marvita to leave, but as long as Whitney and Claire remain, I am happy!! They are my favorites!! Kick Dominique and Fatima to the curb!! If Dominique talks about herself in the 3rd person anymore, I am muting my TV!! What a freak!! Plus, she STILL looks like someone's mom!!!

Its just as well Marvita went home. She didnt seem happy there and she had no chance to win. She was just Tyra's annual pet project.
I stopped liking Whitney last night. Dominique is much worse, but Whitney came off as bratty and annoying.
I like all the girls who stay out of the stupid stuff - Claire, Katerzyna (sp?), Anya, Amie. Claire kicks butt and I really couldnt care less if she tasted breast milk. Whatever.
I pretty much watch the challenge (if its not stupid, like it was last night), the photo shoot, and panel. I change the channel when they digress into house-drama. Alton Brown was making souffle over on the Food Network. Much more entertaining than obnoxious girls yelling at eachother. And of course I mute it whenever Tyra opens her mouth. Its a much better show this way!

I know that i'm probably in the minority here but I like Dominique. Yes, speaking in 3rd person is annoying but I still enjoy her. I'm not sure how she made the leap to Whitney being a racist. I am going to give her the benefit of the doubt, just this once. The whole argument was just nonsense!
On the other hand, I want Whitney to go far in this competition because plus size models usually don't and I want her to be the exception (being plus size, I have to root for a fellow member of the club). With that said, I don't like Whitney's personality. She is beautiful, but she is whinny.

I don't think Whitney is whiney. In last night's ep. she was called fat, compared to Anna Nicole, and called a racist on national television. All of her comments were justified.

Fatima and the hairy pits - how gross! Does anyone else think that Ms. Jay hates her? His comments on her are great - she's old enough to shave" - I didn't dislike Marvita, but I thought that she really only had that "mean girl" pose going for her, and what they did to her hair was criminal...what agent would request a girl with a horse-do? I still want Dominique and Fatima gone. Dominique told Whitney she looked like she was 30 - I hope she felt stupid when she watched people thinking she was someone's mom. She is also clearly delusional, and I mute that third person ranting also. I can't wait until next week when Claire calls her a shady @!##! and Lauren screams at her. Also if you want a little more insight in to Lauren check out her myspace page - a little scary.

Adam, on other blogs Tootie's limited contract has been discussed for awhile. There are some folks who are in the biz on these forums who speculate that she's not even guaranteed a 1 year contract. They also didn't send her out for any Fashion Week stuff although they claim it's because she was busy with her CG duties. Speaking of which, she is officially now the worst winner ever...TWO trips to the CG factory not just the one trip like usual but two and she still talks like she has marbles in her mouth. Ugh.
I never expected Marvita to win but I would have liked to have seen her outlast Dom (who is too old and looks it) and Stacy Ann who is filler. The right agency could pick-up Marvita if she's serious about it.
Fats and Dom are several bricks short of a full load with Fats coming across as the girl who would stab you in your sleep with all of her muttering to herself out of earshot (as long as she doesn't stick her nose in anyone else's biz). Dom and Whitney's fight was pointless. Sorry but Whitney does look like a combo of Anna Nicole and Wynonna Judd. I'm pretty sure that Benny Ninja did not invent vogueing.
I still say that Aimee and Kat are the best bets for winners. I don't see Claire because she's too old and a mom and I don't see that flying with CG/17. Lauren is too edgy. Anya will need to nail her commercial. Whitney could be the wild card assuming she actually gets overseas. What the heck was Tyra wearing at panel?

Dominique's smile scares me and she needs to quit talking about herself.
What was wrong with Dominique and Whitney? Their argument was so pointless. It went from one topic to the next. In any case, Dominique used the race card for no reason - she had no cause to call Whitney racist. And what exactly is Dominique anyway? Spanish? African American?
LOL @ Whitney - "My best friend is black" - That was a really lame response. It was funny to watch the 2 of them fighting and everyone else just sitting there watching.
I'm shocked that Whitney could split.
Why was Fatima all in Marvita's business? She needs to stop watching Marvita and mind herself seeing that she was in the bottom 2 last week.
PHOTO SHOOT
Poor Marvita at the photo shoot - poor thing...i felt sorry for her.
PANEL
Dominique's picture was great - shocking!
Anya - decent pic; hate her hair colour - yuck.
Fatima - had hair under her arms and they were all on her for it. Why doesn't she shave? Is this a religious thing? retouching is expensive? everybody knows how to use photo shop - what's so expensive about that? Nonetheless, in her picture she looks like an African warrior - superb.
Lauren's pic - i didn't like her pointy bottom lip.
Marvita - looked depressed in her picture.
Stacey Ann - I liked her picture but why are her bra straps always showing? buy a strapless bra.
BOTTOM 2
Marvita and Whitney were in bottom 2 - obviously Whitney stays. Marvita didn't cry - always trying to be a tough guy/girl. She looked so innocent when Tyra was talking to her at the end.

I only caught the last half of the show but it did seem like Dom was picking on Whitney about being racist for no reason--maybe just because Whitney doesn't get along with Fatima--Dom is trying to make it into a racist issue. I don't think Whitney was whiney at all, she needed to defend herself against the racism charge.
Is it just me or has Tyra & Co finally realized that they are too predictible in their confessionals as to who is going home so they are switching it up? Adam--I thought Dom would be going home too as they showed her in confessionals so much. My fave is still Katarzyna but I'm starting to really like Aimee as well. I think the chameleon thing she has going will really help her. Once again, though, Tyra TRIED to find something about Kat to pick on. Her slicked back hair was too puffy in the front?! PLEASE-- Anyway, I hope they get rid of either Dom or Fatima next week--they don't need two villains.

It looked like the "fight" between Dominique and Whitney was heavily edited, who knows what was really said and why?
I thought they both came off looking childish and bratty. I don't really get the love for Whitney. She seems to think a whole lot of herself.
Once again I am struggling to find someone I actually like and want to win! Maybe Claire. Or Aimee- but that could be because they have't shown very much of her!

I wasn't too sad to see Marvita go. Mostly because it was pretty inevitable anyway, and I love Whitney way more. But does ANYONE notice that ever since they gave Whitney the long blond weave everyone seems to be questioning her attitude and intelligence and commitment??? I mean, the Anna Nicole comment from Benny was completely unfounded. And everyone is calling her that high school "cheerleader" kind of girl now. What's up with that? AND when Vendela kept saying she wasn't COMMITTED to the competition ... that was it for me. I was like, hello?? She so obviously is more mature than a lot of the other girls (hello, Dominique!), and she didn't even get in Stacy Ann's face about the fat comment. But since the blond transformation, everyone's gone stereotype on her!! What's up??

I almost believe that Dominique and Whitney made up that fight to get more time on screen, because it came out of nowhere, made no sense, and afterwards they were standing right beside each other during Tyra mail and again at the next challenge. If I get in a fight with someone I try to avoid standing next to them.
I hate that they make you finally like someone, like Marvita last night, and that's the night they send them home.

i know the harsh judging is supposed to be entertainment, but i got a really weird vibe from vendela. i cant quite put my finger on it, but i've rarely given much thought to most of the guest experts, and several times i thought that she seems nasty, kind of mean.

ooops! posted too soon
i meant to say that i'm kinda liking paulina. it might be that we're the same age and our birthdays are 2 days apart, and that people mistake me for her ALL THE TIME...okay, the last part is a lie.
she's a little bit harsh, but i like her cuz she gives them helpful advice and tips too. she seems pretty much like what you see is what you get.
