Episode Recap: Top Model Makeovers
Well peeps, here we are! Another round of Top Model makeovers. Over the past 10 cycles, its become customary to expect dye-jobs, weaves, and disapproving looks from the Jay's as the girls undergo their transformations and cry throughout the whole thing. Will this year be any different? I'm thinking that's a big N-O. If there's one thing this show has kept interesting since the beginning, it's the makeovers. So let's get to recapping.
The episode started out with the girls lounging around the apartment talking about who they thought their biggest competition might be. Despite having been in the bottom 4 last week, Dominique seemed pretty confident in her modeling ability. Just as the girls were starting to get to know each other a little better, the doorbell rang and outside were 12 white bags filled with Applebottom products. Cue the screeching girls. While the rest of gals went gaga over their new stuff, Lauren once again expressed how much of a tomboy she is and how wearing high-heeled shoes is not her thing. By the way, maybe I missed it but did she ever explain why she auditioned for this show in the first place? Meanwhile, Allison took the time to let us know how much better she thinks she is than the rest of the girls because she has experience modeling overseas. We get one of those every season and they never last! Moving on, while still reveling in the excitement of their new threads the claws came out when Fatima asked for a definition of an apple-bottom. When the other girls told her that Allison's butt was the epitome of an apple-bottom, Fatima quickly retorted with "Well that's just cause she's a bigger girl!" Not cool! Upon hearing this, Allison ran into another room and immediately began measuring her waist and confessed off-camera to have struggled with an eating disorder all of her life. Fatima felt a bit of guilt for making that comment but insisted (just like every cycle's bitchy model does) that she's here to win and not make friends. Just in time to break the tension, a Tyramail came on the message board.
After a short ride in their limo taxi, the girls arrived at a Walmart for their first challenge. They met with Brent Poer from Covergirl who informed the models that their challenge was to shop for cosmetics to create a natural look for themselves in only 5 minutes. As the girls hustled around the Covergirl section, Allison announced how she thought she was doing better than the rest of the models. However, Claire was chosen as the winner and Allison was called out for overdoing it a bit. When the girls returned home, Claire confessed that she was in the competition to provide a better life for her child which inspired the rest of the models to share their own stories. Meanwhile, in the other room Allison and Fatima were still bickering. This time, Allison was playing with a barbie doll that she deemed to be Fatima and said "I'm Fatima, I like to take it in the back cause I'm black!" which sent Fatima over the edge. Although I completely disagreed with Fatima's earlier comments, Allison had no reason to bring Fatima's race into it. No amount of obnoxious comments from Fatima could have justified Allison turning this into a race issue.
The next day, the girls received another Tyramail informing them that it was makeover time. When they arrived at the salon, Mr and Miss Jay told them there were several surprises in store and only Tyra herself could tell them what they are. For this cycle, rather than telling the girls what they can expect from their new look, everything was going to be kept secret until the transformations were complete. So here's the rundown: Anya went platinum blonde, Whitney got a blonde weave, Aimee got a red dye-job and bangs, Marvita got what Tyra called a horse's mane, Lauren got a reddish-blonde weave, Katarzyna got a dark dye-job, Claire got shaved and dyed blonde, Fatima got a brown dye-job and a weave, Allison got a lighter dye-job, Dominique got chopped and dyed, Stacy-Ann got clipped, and Amis got a blonde weave. Overall, I thought the girls looked great but I'll have more on that later.
With their new looks, the girls were ready for their post-makeover photo shoot. Before the models could get in front of the camera, Mr. Jay introduced a surprise guest who could offer them some career advice: Elle Macpherson. As a complete 180 from Paulina's advice last week, Elle actually gave the girls some constructive criticism that they could take with them even after the competition. Fatima, Claire, and Aimee totally rocked their new look but Lauren, Allison, and Dominique seemed to struggle a bit. When the Tyramail came in letting the girls know they had to face the panel again, Lauren and Dominique were noticeably worried while Allison remained confident she'd still have her spot after elimination. The judges ripped into Allison's forced poses and criticized how the stylist seemed to cover up Whitney's curves (not her fault but they still seemed to hold it against her.) In the end, the judges had to choose between Dominique and Allison. They finally decided to send Allison packing. With all of her arrogance and trash-talking throughout the entire episode, I can't say I'm surprised.
Overall, I thought the girls look damn good with their new makeovers with a few exceptions. Marvita's mane makes her look like a reject from American Gladiators (though it does seem to photograph well.) Claire looks good but reminds me too much of 90's fitness guru Susan Powter. I have to say My favorite look goes to Lauren, Fatima, and Whitney. My least favorite would have to be Stacy-Ann. I think they could have done a much better job with her because the way she looks now she just doesn't stand out. So what's your take on the new looks? Have the makeovers given us a new favorite to win? Was Allison the right person to be sent home? Let us know.
And, as always, if you missed any part of this week's show, or to re-live old makeover memories...Check out Top Model in our Online Video Guide!
See ya next week!

Sorry, Adam, but Whitney looked WAY hotter with her original dark hair. She is not a blonde! But in my opinion she's by far the most beautiful girl on the show. I didn't like Claire's look, either, but then what the h*** do you do with that awful shaved side to begin with?? Anya looked bad, too, but Fatima, Lauren and Katarzyna rocked it!!
I personally can't wait until there are fewer girls as I CANNOT STAND the constant shrieking! That seems to go away as the number of girls shrinks.
Should Allison have gone home? Probably, but I would have sent Dominique home instead. Girl looks like a man! Anya can also be gone anytime, as I can't tolerate her looks or her voice...ugh!
Thanks for getting this post up so quickly.

Did anyone notice Tyra's voice sounding like it was being dubbed over? When the girls walked into panel, Tyra made some random comment that totally didn't sound like it was said then.

I thought that Marvita's and Claire's hair styles were incredible. I agree that one does look a little American Gladitors and another Susan Powter, but I think that both of those girls can rock the styles. Did you see Claire's after-makeover shot - fierce!
The make over I hated was Dominique's. The guest judge at panel made the comment that she looked like someone's mother and it was totally true - its such soccer mom hair. What were they thinking?
@Rebeccann3 You must not watch a lot of reality television - cause they always to dubbing and such. Its not that they are changing what happened as much as simply condensing and editing the show to fit between the commercial breaks. Nothing new.

Im so suprised that nobody cried or bitched over the ending results. The drama over the make-overs is always the best part of ANTM. I do like all the girls new do. And you're right Adam Claire does look like Susan Powter. But what else could they do with her hair. My question is why would she shave the side of her head like that in the first place?
Im glad Allison is gone. I knew her cockiness wouldn't get her far, but I thought it would get her a little further in the competition. But I thought they were going to keep her around, and send Dominque home. She does look like a man, and too old for this competition.
Finally I wish they would bring back the old version of Tyra Mail, cause all the girls reading it at the same time is getting on my last nerves. Maybe I would put it on mute, like I did when Jaselene's cover girl commerical came on.

I only caught the last 20 minutes of the show =(
With that said, I liked Fatima's new look and didn't care for Claire or Allison's new look. Maybe I'm just partial to Sarah Silverman (who is awesome in every way), but I liked Allison when she looked more like Jimmy Kimmel's girlfriend. Claire looks like Bridget Nielsen during her modeling days, but not as pretty. That cut and dye job, no!
Wow, Allison was a b!tch!? Well, Silverman look-alike or not, to say that kind of BS, I'm glad she's gone. I'll have to catch the repeat on Sunday to leave a better comment!

Maybe I imagined it, but did anyone else hear Tyra say that they were going to do-over Dominique's hair? Something about they had not given Dominique the color that Tyra told them to. I was watching live for a change and can't go back and check myself.

A complete 360, lol? That would be the same thing. A complete 180 would be more accurate.
And what about Katarzyna? Her makeover made her look even better!

Yes, ForestKat--Tyra did say they were going to give Dominique the color "Tyra told them to give her." (Ooooh, snap!)
But, unfortunately, they did not say, specifically, that they would give her a better hair style. Just a better color.
And last night's TV was my schadenfreude quota for the month! First Allison from Big Brother was elated, thinking she was going to stay--just to be voted out 6-0 minutes later. Then Allison from Top Model talking such smack and getting served her walking papers. Ouch.
And I enjoyed it all.
And lizzybelle, I SO agree about people reading the mail all at once. Usually they all just join in at the end because they know it's going to be "...American's Next Top Model...Love...Tyra" But to have them read the ENTIRE thing? My God.
Not that anyone cares, but there is a local commercial where little kids all speak together for a car commercial. I. Hate. It. They speak so slowly and the commercial feels like it lasts 5000 minutes even though they really only say "Palmiero Toyota in Meadville." But that becomes Palm-air-oh Toy-Oh-Tah In Meed-ville."
AND they have these same kids at the movies too! They do the pre-movie information like "Turn off your cell phones" and "be quiet." Etc. You be quiet, stupid kids.
Maybe it's just not being a fan of kids (or at least ones that are shoved into playing a certain "cute" role--tugging on heartstrings of potential buyers) but I've never liked people saying the same thing all at once. Kids, adults. Ooh! Like on Family Feud when they unveil the clues no one got. The entire audience has to shout the answers. Drives. Me. Crazy!

I am a soccer mom and my hair looks much better than Dominque! How in the world is that supposed to be high fashion?
LizzybelleI only watch this taped so that I can fast forward thru them reading the stupid tyra mail. It drives me crazy.
I loved Fatima's new look. Now the girl just needs to learn how to talk to the other girls without insulting them. Geez, learn some tact!
I also was glad to see Allison go home. (on both shows! Ha!!) Her arrogance was too much. I loved when the photog asked her if she was cold and Jay said no she's just posing!
I don't quite get Lauren. Why does she want to be a model? She doesn't seem to have much interest in clothes, definitely not in shoes. I am just not sure why she is there.
Overall I think the makeovers are really good this time. Only two I don't care for are Dominque and Stacy Ann.

Laura...thanks for catching my stupid mistake of the week! And double-thanks for not totally attacking me for making it in the first place.

Tootie is on her way to being the worst MLAACG rep ever. No sleeping pills needed just listen to Tootie. She makes Naima sound hyper.
Nigel is married so Tyra please stop trying to get him to touch your butt you nitwit.
Allison is gone and it took too long. I didn't like her when the girls were first announced. Nothing like an ignorant know-it-all. Go back to Europe.
Decent photoshoot and helpful advice from Elle...that won't last.
Aimee reminds me of C5 Nicole with her new color, it's not bad; Amis looks like they ran out of hair for her extensions, not good; Anya looks like a Japanese anime character; Claire looks like Susan Powter or Joan Jett (can't decide if I like her blonde or prefer her dark); Dominique's style looks like it was supposed to be asymmetrial starting in the back and layered, they missed badly; Fatima didn't need hair that long just the dark color; Katarzyna is getting the too sexy edit which a lot of us called and I wouldn't have made her hair that dark; Lauren looks much better but her punk schtick is getting old; Marvita looks nice with a horse's main, who knew and her pic was one of the best; Stacy-Ann looks like she was attached with garden shears or a flowbee, it needed to be shortened but a style would have been good; Whitney didn't need that much hair, it didn't need to be blonde or that long and that outfit looked like a straight jacket on her.
As for the squealing, that's not going away since they're told to do that for maximum effect.

Hey Adam! You forgot the fierce count! I counted at least 3 last night!

Ohhhh, I totally forgotten about that to add the fierce count klmetzger. And last from last week we had 1.
Cruciatus, maybe the reason that all of them read it outloud is to prove that they can read.

I think most of the girls looked very good with their makeovers. There's still way too many for me to remember who they all are, but I do remember poor Dominique looks abysmal - not as bad as the Soleshia cut last time, but seriously, who would look high-fashion in that pedestrian haircut?
The best so far, at all levels, is Claire. She's drama-free, gorgeous, rocks that Annie Lennox look, takes a magnificent pic, and seems to be fairly normal and nice. Plus, despite getting little air time, she stands out and is memorable. I hope she doesnt mess it up.
