Episode Recap: The Top 5 Revealed!
**Yo, yo, American Idol peeps. You know I love you all, but I need to set you all straight. DO NOT BELIEVE THE RUMORS ABOUT TVGUIDE.COM SPREADING INSIDER INFO!!! One of our editors has been smeared all over the Idol forums and fan sites for supposedly saying that Jason was getting kicked off tonight. We don't know who is getting kicked off. NO ONE DOES. If you look at our power rankings, they do not mirror the show results at all, they are just a fun poll we use to see who loves who. So, please know that your friendly editors at TVGuide.com are hard-working, TV-loving souls who don't want to spoil anyone's fun.**
'Nuf said. Let's enjoy the show.
So, I'm glad that so many of you admitted that you too enjoy musical theater. I don't feel so alone now. The Idols began the show this evening with a group number singing, "All I Ask of You," from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. They sound lovely and sing some really pretty harmony during the song. After it's over, Ryan introduces a taped piece that recaps last night's performances and that ALW thinks it will be interesting to see who progresses. Ya think?
They bring ALW on stage with Ryan for a Q&A. It's kind weird, no? This isn't Regis and Kelly. He asks about Brooke's faux pas last night, and ALW was very gracious and said that it happens to the best of them and that he thinks she's very talented. Brooke looks like she wants to claw out Ryan's eyes for bringing that incident up again, but then smiles when ALW says, "It (meaning forgetting) happened on the [judge's] panel last night too." Paula, he's referring to you. Simon does a subtle job of pointing that out to Paula. Hee. Ryan also gets ALW to say that Jason didn't listen to a word he said and had the world's strangest song choice. LOL. Way to hold back there, Sir Webber. Then Ryan asks, in the most asinine way possible, "If you could write a love song for Simon and Paula, what would it be?" Ugh. ALW says, "Time to Say Goodbye?" "How Can I Say I Miss You if You Won't Go Away?" At least it's not calls from fans.
On to the eliminations... or not.... First, we get a Ford commercial on comic book acid, to "Tainted Love." It's really cool, actually. Well, at least the comic book part is. Now we're back and Ryan unveils some stamps that will have different Idols on them until the winner is crowned. It's to raise money for Idol Gives Back. Now we get a message from President and First Lady Bush. It's about as stiff and canned as possible. They have no idea what Idol really is, do they? Must try to keep political sniping to a minimum. Trying so hard...
Now we're at the eliminations: David C. and Archie march out first. After Archie barely gets out his, "Gosh I'm glad I did what I did," speech, we find out they're both safe.
Now we get to see how many former Idols have been on Broadway or are actually starring right now. Tamyra Grey is currently starring as Mimi in Rent and Clay Aiken is in Spamalot (OK, at least he has a reason for that awful hair).
Leona Lewis takes the stage singing, "Bleeding Love" — why? Because Simon discovered her in the UK and now she's a mega-star. His head is officially bigger than the entire world now. She's damn talented, though.
Next on the chopping block are Syesha and Brooke. Syesha goes to the stool and Brooke is safe! Holy crap, I thought for sure she'd get the boot this week! Carly and Jason are up and why are we even doing the critique? Aren't they in the bottom three by process of elimination (no pun intended)? Ohhh, it's the bottom two now. Got it. Jason is safe!? Holy cow! Now they're making Carly sing again. This is torturous. I'm shocked that the two best performances last night (sorry David lovers) are in the bottom two tonight. Boo, voters! OMG, Carly has been booted! I'm speechless. I hope you feel my wrath, voters. I heart Carly!

I agree that Syesha and Carly were probably the best from last night; I'm very surprised Jason and Brooke weren't in the bottom two.
It makes me feel better that my 40-50 phone calls for Syesha might have made a difference.
Methinks the road to the final 2 just got a little easier for the two Davids...

i'm so shocked!!! i absolutely loved carly she was one of my picks for the top 3 this year....I hope that she gets a record deal out of this, I will def buy. And i'm anxious to see what direction she'll go in, maybe a rock/soul vibe? She's going to do fine, but I will totally miss her next week
Oh Erin, Leona Lewis' song is called "Bleeding Love"...and she's really talented, she deserves her fame!

The results are okay with me. I'd love to see an all guy top three.
I am ready for Brooke to go. I'm not sure what's worse her back talking or her constant lip pursing and pouting.

Leona Lewis......I guess no one told her to keep her eyes open while singing....
I also think she's a little overrated. It's hard to totally judge a singer based on one song (especially one that repeats itself over and over again), but nothing blew me away.
I would have preferred another 3 minutes of ALW talking about the contestants!

I'm quite shocked with the results. I didn't think Brooke's fan base was that big. I do like her, but she and Jason completely bombed last night while Carly has remained consistently good throughout.
There's always surprises when it gets close to the end though.
It'll still be a David squared finale with Cook winning.

Although I am surprised that Carly is the one who got the boot I am actually quite happy. I never really liked her very much. I was quite happy with the bottom 2, albeit a little shocked, since I don't really like Sayesha either. Even though I like Brooke I think she has gone as far as she can in this competition and I don't see her lasting much longer. I hoping it'll be the battle of the David's in the finale.

I am not surprised that Brooke made it through one more night. Votefortheworst is now supporting her since KLC is gone.
Syesha's days are numbered. Her performance last night was a one-time thing since next week she will have to be herself again.
A David squared final would be awesome.

Nina, I heart Carly, too, but I think our girl is going to be OK. She is a powerhouse (along with Syesha - it was truly painful to see them in the bottom two) and I think has a great future ahead of her.
I honestly love them all at this point but Brooke really lucked out tonight. She has had four lackluster performances in a row (Jolene, You've Got a Friend, Hero, You Must Love Me) and just seems to have come as far as she can go (I hope I'm wrong and that she's great next week - her Let it Be performance almost made me cry). I'm sure she knows her popularity kept her in and I hope she steps up. She should do well with Neil Diamond week.
And I'm sorry Randy, but David C. is the one to beat not David A. I was not impressed with his performance this week - he messed up words and I just expected so much more from him - a big Broadway belter! I felt we were robbed! And I'm so happy every time Syesha makes it through with nary a crumb of praise from the judges (except for this week) when she (along with Carly) are the best female voices of this season.
As for Jason, he needs to act just a little bit more excited. I really like him (and he wasn't as bad as the judges and Lord Webber said he was) and I know he has a laid back personality but please, Dude, you're in the top 5! Act like you belong there.

A travesty. I can't take another week of sitting through another dreadfully boring (the same every week) pop ballad from David A. or another awkward, terribly sung number from Brooke, which this week actually forced me to turn on the mute button. It was actually painful.
I'm through with Idol. See you next season maybe.

Someone last night said they were offended by Carly's song since it's disrespectful to Jesus. I wonder if a lot of people felt that way and didn't vote for her because of it. I think Brooke and David A. have the same thing going for them that Marie Osmond had going for her on DWTS. They are Mormon and I believe their church/community votes for them. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, just saying that could be the reason they stay in. If you type Brooke White Mormon into Google, you will find several articles about it, so I think it is a factor in the voting. However, they both have a strong fan base. Plus it's evident that Simon likes Brooke and he has strong influence. Tonight he said she shouldn't be surprised that she was safe because she just showed her human side. Plus ALW complimented her. I can't understand why people vote for Jason, but evidently most don't agree with me. I think those who had voted for Carly will now give their votes to David Cook. I'm happy to see Syesha in for another week. Maybe after this good performance she will be able to express herself better.

i agree w/ you catmom, jason seems so unenthused about being there. Even after effing up big time last night, he still was kinda smug and stupid all at the same time on stage tonight, like it was no big deal. I'm so ready to call him the next sanjaya, but he keeps doing just enough to be interesting and I feel like that would be a little too extreme of a label lol. I'm tired of the people that just scrape by. Oh well...only a few more weeks I suppose lol.

Did anyone notice Jason yawning when the cameras were on them backstage? I know they all must be tired but he also said he didn't want to sing tonight. Was that because he thot he would be eliminated or because he's tired? Hard to tell what he was thinking. But he doesn't seem very excited about being in the final six [now five]. Carly certainly exited gracefully and seems to appreciate what a break this show has been for her.

Jason should have gone. He has no talent and that disgusting hair makes me want to vomit. He was standing there yawning before being called out for his results. Then he stands there on stage either saying something stupid, looking stupid, or looking smug.
They shouldn't have shown Carly's icky looking husband so many times. She has a really great voice. At least she went out on a good, strong performance and seemed okay about it.
That singer that Simon "discovered" is not my style at all. I don't like her voice. Yuck. Boring song. Why are so many of those pop songs so repetitive?
I still think David Cook is going to win the thing and deservedly so. Of course, I was a Chris Daughtry fan and thought he was going to win his season.
And why pick on the President? I'm sure he and his wife know what Idol is.
