January 18, 2007: "So... You Guys Been Watching Heroes?"
First off, I need to strongly admonish NBC for utterly ruining the outcome of Liz's budding, unlikely romance with The Hair (guest star Peter Hermann) via this week's promos. I mean, if you want us to watch your channel at other times, for heaven's sake don't penalize us for it! But if you managed to evade the spoiltastic promo, you enjoyed a very funny resolution to the relationship that was too good, and too well coiffed, to be true. I guess Liz draws the line at trying certain "new" things.
Still, it was fun to see her successfully dating — and enjoying the latest in saffron-infused oxygen treats — while it lasted. And just when she'd pulled the trigger on lap-sitting, too....
Elsewhere, we had Jack tearing a "page" out of Kenneth's book, a job-reversal that had me at, "I'm going to be your bottom.... Ride me as hard as you can" amusing on its own, and then punctuated by Kenneth's superb and yet still ambiguous reaction shot. And though we didn't get to see Donaghy rub the snake's tummy until it pooped, if you stuck around for the coda, you got a peek at "Gold Case," featuring John McEnroe as host. Question: When Ken first pitched the concept, did anyone else think to themselves, "Wouldn't the suitcase of gold be, like, way heavy?" Glad that was acknowledged, to Johnny Mac's dismay.
As for Tracy's C-story with the overdue autobiography, yes, it was purely an excuse to have him utter "out there" remembrances, some evoking disturbing images of his mom.
The bullets:
Jack's assorted show ideas, including one about "super-hot nannies that help fat kids lose weight." And then him bemoaning, "This scheduling thing is just one big ass-ache." I think NBC's Kevin Reilly said the same at press tour this week. Tracy not reporting to work on time: "No, I just left the party on a bacon run." Liz's beef with $100 bills: "It's like having Confederate money." Liz likening The Hair's stare to the Death Star tractor beam trained on the Falcon, and Jenna berating her use of Star Trek references. "Wars !" The ritual of Kenneth cleaning Brian Williams' dressing room could fill a blog unto itself. The liquor-store runs, the tube socks (plural) filled with bird seed, the egg in the briefs, the "Katie Couric S... " graffiti, the "Junk in the Trunk" magazine. Priceless. Liz to The Hair, "If you're a gay guy looking for a beard, I don't do that anymore." Kenneth's tribute to TV, revering "the glory and pageantry of the Summer Olympics to the less-fun Winter Olympics." Moonvest the Black Rock shoe shine.
And on a final, semirelated note: What's with the promos fashioning Studio 60 as The O.C.?!

Love this show. Love it! Out of the four comedies that NBC offers on Thursday night, this is the one that I most look forward to. Even though I had seen the promos, I had completely forgotten about them, so the "Cousin" thing was absolutely hilarious.
Alec Baldwin is too good. Two things, "ass-ache" and the stare he gave to Josh when he was yelled at as if he were Kenneth.

I'm so glad they realize what a prize they have with Kenneth--since he is a mere page I assumed after the first episode that he would be an occasional joke, but they've managed to use him believably (not to mention hilariously) in most of the episodes.

"I don't smoke. I don't do drugs, except for my allergy medicine. I don't download music without paying for it. And I don't wear flip-flops, that's gross." After those statements, I turned to my husband and said "That's exactly like me!" I don't know if it's good or bad that I have so much in common with Liz Lemmon (I also agreed with her opinion on sex with Dean Winters character "It's easy, it's fast and it's only on Saturdays")but since I think Tina Fey is just wonderful, i'm okay with it.

I, too, had forgotten about the promo spoiling the familial relationship between Liz and The Hair, so it was still funny to me. Thinking about it, though, it is annoying that NBC spoiled the punchline, so to speak.
Anyway, this show gets funnier every week. The part about Kenneth having to clean out Brian Williams's office every day between 11 and 11:30 was hilarious. I loved it when he had to scrub off the "Katie Couric Sucks" graffiti, and when the pizza fell from the ceiling. "Now how did he get it up there?"
Just a great show, I wish more people watched!

I too had forgotten about the promo until the moment she saw the picture but dang it NBC cut it out! As always, this is one of my favorite shows of the week. I can't get enough of Jack, Kenneth and yes, even Tracy. I swear I start laughing the second he opens his mouth. Why the bacon run? Why was his mom holding her gigantic droopy boob? Why did the people at Random House not want his book and he forgot about that part - his bad. Shut it down. I love the writers on the show and as usual rooted for Liz Lemon just a little more this episode. I loved that she was trying new things, I am too. I love that she was uncomfortable with the plastic folks, I would've been too. I do wear flip flops, and I wouldn't have had trouble sitting on his lap, but I was so happy for her! The Brian Williams dressing room was just brilliant. Josh yelling at Jack over the salad, realizing that Josh yells at poor Kenneth like that all the time yet Kenneth still loves his job, still smiles every minute of every day. Just special.....

I love this show. It gets better every week.
the stare he gave to Josh when he was yelled at as if he were Kenneth. Posted by fijihiji I liked that part too! But even funnier was when Josh looked at Kenneth and asked, too much? and Kenneth said nope, that's pretty much how it goes. or something like that.
And I tape everything I watch now, because I'm always at work, so it wasn't spoiled for me. And I totally didn't realize that that was peter herman. I knew he was going to be on but had forgot about it!

This show is definitely the one I look forward to most every week. Mainly because of Alec Baldwin, but everybody else in the cast is incredible, too. I thought the Brian Williams dressing room bit was genius, and I could totally relate to awkward Liz at the party. I didn't like Tracy Morgan so much at the beginning of the season, but he's really grown on me and totally cracks me up with all the random stuff that comes out of his mouth. Am loving Kenneth and Jack's relationship, too, and are glad they're keeping them in scenes together since they really play off well against each other. Love this show!!

I agree, I always look forward to this show every week. This episode wasn't one of my favorites, but there were some hilarious scenes in there.
The coda of "Gold Case" with host, John McEnroe had me dying. When Kenneth realized the fatal flaw of the show (the gold was so heavy it made it obvious which skinny model was holding the gold case), it was probably the funniest line of the night.
The Brian Williams bit was hilarious as well. The story I probably liked the most actually was Tracy's C story of his autobiography. His "A Jordan Christmas" song was the best scene of the show. I need to watch the show again so I can memorize the lyrics.
And can someone please fire the idiot who is in charge of picking which scenes to use as promos?! Why didn't they use the scene of Josh yelling at Jack, that would have gotten interest for the show without giving away any critical spoilers! Grrr... Maybe Moonvest over at CBS can steal this show away and give it the proper treatment it deserves.

I'm still getting over how WHITE HOT Tina Fey looked in this episode. My GOD.

Once again, Tracy Morgan rocked this week. The 'mama's droopy boob' part was just crazy. The whole book storyline had me cracking up.
I'm not so sure about Tina's 'hotness'. She looked like Rachel Dratch when she entered that party. She should always wear glasses.

in my book this was probably their best showing yet! It's a good show and I hope it sticks around. It's got a perfect home hanging out with Earl, the Office, and Scrubs.
Hopefully NBC keeps these 4 gems together for as long as possible!

Re: "A Jordan Christmas"
"That was a raunchy video!"
Re: Tina's hotness
I think she actually looked white-hotter on her date with Thomas. wasn't she wearing, like, a hair band last night?
Re: NBC promos
Glad to see I was not alone! Very, very, very bad selection.

I adore this show! If I only had 2 shows a week I could watch it would be 24 and 30 Rock. The half hour goes way too fast, but I love how they cram so much into it. You actually have to go back and watch it again to see what you missed, especially stuff like cleaning Brian William's dressing room. I pray NBC sticks by this show like they have done in the past, like with Scrubs. Kenneth is such a great character, and Alec Balwin deserved to win his Golden Globe. Tina Fey has created a real keeper.
