"It was a car accident somewhere in China." Whoa, Audrey's dead! Or at least, that's what China wants us to believe — notice how Chloe gave us that little loophole waiting to happen, about CTU sending Audrey's DNA to the Chinese government so they could verify her remains. Mm-hmm, sure thing, China — like we really trust you after abducting our boy Jack right out from under our noses. First of all, I love that this little reveal was the result of an almost-kiss from Marilyn, who apparently needs to be reminded that her husband died today. Secondly, I'll be the first to admit that the Audrey/Jack relationship always tried my patience at best, but with this new bit of information I found myself suddenly excited at the prospect of Jack and Audrey's dad, former Secretary of Defense James "I can survive a 50-foot plummet into the ocean" Heller, teaming up and bringing those bastards to justice. Hell, bring Aaron Pierce out of retirement and you've got yourself a death squad that'll have the whole world quaking in its boots.
Meanwhile, all signs point to Nadia as the mole inside CTU, which I'm guessing means she's completely innocent. And again with the reference to eager-beaver Mikey Doyle and his sordid past in the Mile High City — seriously, what happened in Denver? I'm guessing somebody made just one crack too many about that haircut.
Oh, and then there's the tiny little issue of the nuclear weapon on its way to take out San Francisco…. Did we ever have any doubt that Jack would divert the drone just in time? But for all his efforts to save the home of Rice-A-Roni from horrific destruction, it's still not enough to prevent our extra hawkish VP from ordering a retaliatory strike. One world war, extra mushroom clouds, coming right up. My favorite part of this is imagining Tom Lennox and Karen Hayes putting aside their differences and delightfully catty comments ("No, Karen, I tripped over your ineptitude") long enough to wrestle Noah Daniels to the ground — figuratively speaking, of course… unless we're really, really lucky.

The "loophole" was a tad too obvious. Once they identified it was Audrey - wouldn't the U.S. request the body be returned to the U.S.?

This episode was definitely a yawner. Can't believe I just wrote that. I'm usually glued to the TV during 24. Not last night.
Everything was just too obvious!

Two comments: 1) I definitely think next season should be all about Jack trying to find Audrey in China. That would be a change of scenery instead of it being set in LA. 2) I think the mole in CTU is Milo b/c Nadia was using his security code to get into the computer. Or maybe she was just being used and had no idea, but I agree that it's not her.

I gotta say, I'm not liking the Mike Doyle character; he seems just too over the top. Could it be that he is just a really bad actor? I hope that he is not the reason we jump the shark here.....
I do agree that next season would be good to have Jack in China searching for Audrey..A change of scenery is perhaps just what we need here.....
Still getting a laugh out of the fact that VP Daniels also played Dr. Zaius in the 70's series "planet of the apes....."

at first my husband thought it was milo but it was made too obvious so now he thinks its doyle, but when milo walked out on nadia it made me feel it really is him, he looks like he could be middle eastern. i also don't believe that audry is dead, maybe she is in a safe house with her father....or maybe she is being held by the chinese, makes perfect sense.

The thought did cross my mind that Audrey is still alive, but what purpose does it serve for either party (Audrey or the Chinese) to fake her death? If she was still alive, wouldn't she be better leverage if the Chinese were openly holding her prisoner and the U.S. knew about it? Why pretend she's dead? And if it's Audrey faking her own death, again, why would she do that? It doesn't make sense. Of course, that's never been an issue on this show! Just roll with it. I do agree that next season should have Jack and co. kicking butt in China, if only for 24 hours.

SO WHAT HAPPENED TO LOGAN?? Am I the only one that thought that?? Last week ended on his maybe or maybe not dying, which I assumed would be the opening of this episode, but they didn't even mention him!!

rosepetill - I said the same thing about Logan. Can they really go a whole hour and not even mention if he's alive, in surgery, or whatever. Hopefully they hit on that next week.
leopardlove - You've now got me thinking about Doyle. Milo is a little too obvious too, so maybe it's the new guy. He was a little over the top.

Show sucks this season. Bad acting (even by Kiefer...what's up with that??), horrendous dialogue and uninteresting new characters. Audrey is still alive, Milo will be the mole, blah, blah, blah. AND can we please get a new recap person? This chicks blog is insanely short and very dull.

OK...I agree with most earlier postings. Can you say "ho hum" about last night? Too easy for Jack, so obvious to use Nadia, and so extreme concerning the "retaliatory" attack. I was bored and wanted more about Logan, Karen, and I totally agree about Audrey, however, being 24, that leak will probably go as missing as the final suitcase nukes. Is there going to be a movie?! Oh, and finally, "Ricky" has added nothing. I might have to watch DWTS if it stays lame, at least I would see each of them every other week, as 24 seems to be a teeter totter.

Since the actress who played Audrey was in The Nine, which is on "indefinite hiatus" (a/k/a canceled, without saying the word), I think she's still alive and finding her will be the focus of next season. (Jack Bauer and Rev. Jim Jones, oops, James Heller on the rampage in China - cool!) If The Nine had been a hit, Audrey would have been "really most sincerely" dead.
When the VP gave the order for the nuclear "warning shot", I flashed back to the scene in the movie The Dead Zone where Martin Sheen (playing evil President Greg Stillson in one of Johnny Smith's apocolyptic visions)said "The missiles are flying! Hallejuia!".
I also wondered near the end of the episode why we hadn't heard anything about Logan's condition. I guess they can afford only 1 hospital set, and since they showed comatose Wayne Palmer, they couldn't show Logan.

Wow, what a tough crowd to please here. They're not killing characters that we've come to love on this show so it's boring - but we're not jumping the shark here by watching Kim get kidnapped every week or get chased by mountain lions...or all the technical complaints - it's a TV show, not real life and I say for a TV show 24 is still one of the best shows out there. Yes having a CTU mole is old since every season there seems to be at least one but that's just about a given now. The fun part is when the season first starts and you're trying to figure out who's going to turn out to be the mole. No, it's not Nadia, way too obvious b/c she's from the Middle East. So, is it Milo?? I'm not so sure it is him, it doesn't fit. Now I can see it being Mike Doyle b/c he just proved that he's racist and I can see him being fully on board with what the "acting" president wants to do. There's also Morris...I'm still not 100% on board with him and I think it would be foolish to rule him out but it could be someone that we haven't even met yet. As for Audrey, no way is she dead (unless Kim Raver signs onto another show). The Chinese have her in their custody b/c they were forced to give up Jack and they knew Jack would come back looking for her so that will be the next issue (unless they actually do send her body home!)

gghwc, Powers Boothe, who is 24's vp Daniels, played the Rev. Jim Jones, not William Devane, who played James Heller on 24.
I, too, think Audrey is alive, but at the filming of this episode, "The Nine" was probably still in production and the actress couldn't commit to both. I think Audrey will turn up towards the end, possible in the final hour or two, maybe via phone call or something like that, to kick-start next season or possibly the movie everyone mentions every now and again.
I'd really like to see this show go in another direction next year. I've been a 24 fan since the first minutes of the show back in Day 1, and the "twists and turns" and no longer a surprise but more like a "Gee, are they doing this again?" I was really hoping that when Jack got on his slow boat to China last year that the writers/producers of the show would spend at least the first half of this season having CTU save Jack from the Chinese. I was really disappointed when they didn't go that route this season, but wanted to stay with the "tried and true" formula.
However, given how great last season was, especially with the Logans (I still say Itzin and Smart were Emmy robbed!), I imagine it would be pretty hard to top that. The show hit it's stride last season, and now it's time for a change of pace/scenery. The show never was about CTU, but rather all about Jack Bauer, IMO, which should provide the writers with endless possibilities.
I really hope their not grooming Schroeder's Mike Doyle to be the next Jack and plan on killing Jack off. That would be a travesty, and if there is no Jack Bauer for me, then I won't watch anymore.
