January 29, 2007: Day 6: 11 am — 12 pm
"I'm glad we can all finally put our cards on the table." Something tells me we haven't seen the half of it there, Gray. I must confess, I'm feeling a little bummed out as we approach lunchtime for Jack Bauer. (Seriously, he's been living on rice and pain for almost two years — can somebody get this guy a Fatburger?) Hour six went down almost entirely in favor of the bad guys: Walid took a near-fatal beating from terrorist sympathizers who didn't even have any real information; Karen Hayes tendered her resignation after that bastard Tom Lennox threatened to destroy her (and her husband's) career; Nadia (and CTU as a whole) fell victim to Lennox's no-holds-barred racial profiling; and, of course, Jack and his father are mere moments from being executed at the hands of baby brother Gray. I'm not actually sure which one's the younger Bauer brother, but after that masterful attempt at tears-in-the-face-of-pummeling, my gut says Graem's spent his entire life trying to fill Jack's shoes. You know, while also trying to avoid having his trachea crushed by a well-timed "you stole my Frampton Comes Alive!" kick to the throat. Life in the Bauer household couldn't have been easy. (And while we're on the topic, was Mrs. Bauer some sort of circus dwarf? I can't figure out the height differential between the boys and their beanpole father — Phillip looks ready to take the Isle of Lilliput by storm, while Graem's a card-carrying member of the Lollipop Guild.) I'll admit, I did feel some small relief that Jack's dad seems to be working to protect his family (I guess Jack came by it honestly) rather than masterminding some evil plan for world domination. But then again, you can't trust anybody on this show, can you? Don't go breaking my heart, James Cromwell.
Let's talk for a moment about the newest face to join our happy little national disaster, one Mr. Chad Lowe. Jesse McKenna has officially left the building, folks. I didn't catch his name just yet, so for now I can only refer to Lennox's right-hand man as Weasel No. 2. (This political overthrow has been brought to you by Weasel & Son: glad-handing power mongers and using ill-gotten information to their own advantage since 1983.) But here's what excites me about the introduction of this character: Lennox can grandstand and plan nefarious schemes all he wants, but somebody's got to do the dirty work. And that's the guy I want to watch. I haven't felt a "gonna love to hate this guy" emotion come on so strong since Samwise Gamgee first showed up at CTU in Day 5.
An amusing side note: as Chloe passed along Jack's instructions to the latest SUV full of fresh-faced CTU operatives, I typed the words, "Hi, soon-to-be-dead tactical team!" But I kinda thought they'd at least live to see another couple lines of dialogue. Apparently Jack and Papa Bauer aren't the only ones who completely underestimated Graem.
NOTE: Thanks to all my eagle-eyed posters for catching the spelling of "Graem" during the opening credits. (Do you think that means we're supposed to spell his nickname "Grae"?) I've trained my eyes to ignore any onscreen lettering except the ticking clock, after the "Special Guest Star Roger Cross" tip-off. Spoilers are evil!

Really hope that Nadia (that's her name right?) doesn't end up being a mole or something. That would be so predictable with the whole Milo loggin her in with his username and password.
Lastly, I've been hoping that a lot of you are wrong about Morris possibly being a bad guy but the whole scenario of McCarthy getting "someone that can do the job but might need to be forced into doing it" doesn't bode well with the possibility that it could be him.
oh... was anyone else curious why Karen didn't drop ANYTHING on Lennox when she was talking to the president... i'm sure she'll play a role once she gets back with Bill in LA but i was bummed she didn't tell Wayne something

Not the most exciting episode but still enjoyable. Did anybody not forsee that Walid would be found out? The only surprise for me, was that he was not already dead when Ms. Palmer got to him. And speaking of the president's sister - can we hope that she will now fade into the background. I understand her concern for Walid but all she has done since her first appearance is complain. She really is a one-note character that needs to go. I hated to see Karen giving into Tom's blackmail. (Chana, I had a good laugh at you calling Chad Lowe "weasel #2".) Let's hope Karen and Bill can work togeher to bring these two down. Unfortunely, I think I missed the best part of tonight's show. About five minutes before the end, my reception went on the blink. I lost all audio and I could barely make out who was onscreen. If anyone could please give me a recap, I would be very grateful. My reception went bad right after Jack tossed the handcuff key to "guy with gun" so he could get Grahm. I missed that whole conversation he had with his Dad and then with Grahm, when he came back into the room. Also, who was the body on the gurney that was rolled out of the building? And did that English guy and Kim-look-alike find someone to trigger the nukes?
Thanks for any help. I was looking forward all week to that scene and can't believe I missed it.

Thank you, evilkitty, I thought it was just me thinking the episode was dare I say it a bit boring! At one point I got up and started cleaning the bathroom and was just listening in! I hope the season picks up a bit, maybe we have all been spoiled with such amazing past seasons that no matter how good this season is it can't compare to 24 past. What haven't we seen before! We did the shocking traitor, evil president, the deaths of friends, Jack killing friends, Jack almost dying muliply times, the world almost ending .... Seen it, been there; now how are you going to throw me off!
Then the Walid story ending so seemingly quickly. I was waiting for his new friends to escape or take over the camp and Walid having to decide how long he can pull it off!
Was I the only one who was hoping Donald Sutherland would play Jack's father! I love you James, but that stunt casting would of kept my butt on the couch!
I'm thinking Morris, will be the one "forced" to help by threatening Chloe. That might be interesting!

Re: Karen not telling the President - think about it. She knew if she told the President and got Tom Lennox fired, he would immediately go to the press with the incriminating evidence on Karen and Bill and who knows he might have even used the very proposals he came up with against the president. I think Karen was trying to do the admirable thing by protecting the President from it. I know she told the President that she never had any doubt he would do the "right" thing but I do wish she emphasized explicitly to not sacrifice the Constitution in the name of nat'l security--we all know that's what the terrorists want.
Boy that seem to veer off topic but as for the casting of Jack's dad - I would have loved to see his real father Donald in the role but (a) seeing where the role is going, i am not sure Donald would have been the best fit and (b) it would be odd that Donald and Jack look alike but not anything about Gray. This way it's more believable I guess (minus the striking height difference)

Note: correct spelling from the opening credits is Graem. For those who haven’t watched the episode yet **SPOILER*** Evilkitty, here are the basics. After tossing the keys to unlock Graem, it turns out that “guy with the gun” is not working for the father- they’re on the brother’s payroll. That’s why Jack and his father were led out by gunpoint. They also killed the CTU guys in the car in the parking. Poor Walid got beaten almost to death by the detainees after getting caught stealing the phone. How does anyone learn to pickpocket so well an quickly? No one yet to trigger the nukes, but I agree with the poster above who thinks Morris may be forced to do it.

I agree with anothercrazycanuck: They have done all of what is going on. I know you have to have a few inside twists but not every season. The family thing is a new one.
I like the show but they have to pick it up a bit.
I feel sorry for Gray next week.
I don't think we have seen the last of Walid. Bad things might happen with this guy.

evilkitty - That was Walid on the stretcher, being taken out after the fight. I noticed he was bleeding from the ears, hope he's OK! Poor guy! WHY would it take that long for anyone to get to him after the FBI guy told his peeps to go get him?
Graem came back in and told his men to cuff Jack and Dad. Dad said "You work for me", Graem said "No, they work for me." As they were leaving the building you saw the CTU units dead and Dad said something like "What have you done?" Final scene or maybe a preview was Jack and Dad being told to kneel down, like they were going to shoot them execution style. I can't remember now if English Guy (who else thinks that's McCarthy?)found someone to fix the nukes.
Let me know if you want the previews for next week. Anyone else want to add anything?

Oh, I'm so glad someone else was thinking about the height differentials between Phillip and his sons. I have to admit, I was pretty much distracted by that during the entire scene with daddy and the boys.

One episode of no explosions or gruesome deaths and you guys are bored?

Y'know, sometimes I rather like Morris; there's something about his off-the-cuff demeanor that I occasionally find refreshing.
I think we should do a running CTU Field Ops body count. Good grief! Those folks have the highest mortality rate on TV. (And how didn't those highly trained individuals see the assassins coming????)
Still it was a nice twist that Graem had been underestimated by both his father and his brother. I mean, he led Jack into a trap - Jack's stronger than he is, but when you've got the playground bullies on your side, suddenly, you're the tough guy.
I don't think Jack will underestimate Graem a second time.

So many topics! So little time! Not sure why Jack and his father haven't spoken for nine years, but I have the feeling they're about to renew their father/son bond! Suspect Graem was a whiner - and was "always right."
President Palmer's sister reminds me of David Palmer's wife (can't remember her name): always whining. Get over it already!
Karen's resignation: President Palmer knew something was up - he just doesn't want to face it. He tried to refuse her resignation - but he didn't push back on her push back. So - he knew something was up. And he'll probably say later that if she hadn't left, etc.
Can't wait to see Graem and Tom Lennox get theirs!

That Graem...what a little sh*t. I hope Jack pounded on him a lot in their childhood. If not, he can pick up where he left off in the next episode.
I looked at the faces of the CTU backup team in the SUV and knew I wouldn't need to remember them because they were not long for this world.
I was kind of hoping the blonde floozy would get out of the car, so she could tell what she knew to the authorities. Maybe that will come in the future.
I wish Karen had stood up to Tom and Jerry, I mean Weasel #2. I would have told Wayne everything if it were me. Tom wants to blow his nose with the Constitution, and Wayne had better be ready to protect it.
And why oh why did it take so long to get to Walid? And it was crazy that they let Ms. Palmer in the compound with the detainees. But, this is 24.

Everybody needs to quit complaining. It's 24 and now finally it is lunchtime so maybe Jack can get something beside the meal he had on the C-130 'years' ago. And I am so glad he made a quick trip to Tulsa to get that injured shoulder fixed. It doesn't seem to bother him anymore. 24 forces us to leave a major chunk of credibility at the door and just escape to Jack's world where the bad guys win some battles, but Jack kicks their butt to Hades in the end.
My bet is on Morris to get the call and it is just how late in the day it is and whether he does the right thing for the country or the plot. I also hope the Eva Longoria wannabe proves Mr Numbers wrong and is loyal to her country.
Little thing I've noticed about acting lately. Most don't seem to have a great range of characterizations. They move through the industry playing the same person, just different clothes and name. Didn't type-casting seem to be something they all tried to avoid?
Think they can tie Jericho into Jack's problems? That nuclear war should be about to return.

I am sorry but I still am having trouble with the whole Graem is Jack's brother thing.. i mean am I the only one who doesnt think 24 jumped the shark twicwe already.. 1. Curtis death, 2. brothers bauer.. I cant believe that all of the things that have happened to Jack and never once saw or heard about his family. Since the beginning we were led to believe that Jack only had a wife and daughter.. am I wrong/... Maybe i am, but Heroes is starting to look more real than 24, and thats saying alot.... Shoot at this point, prison breaks storyline is pore possible than 24's.. i mean that whole Walid thing was stupid, he not only is the president of his own group, but he is also a pickpocket, covert agent, and lover... Come on people, 24 is going too far and thats saying something... let me know if im really wrong, or just care about tv too much, by the way im an aspiring writer, so maybe that has to do wit it...
